resolution
Take an honest look back at 2018. Did you accomplish everything you set out to do? Research would suggest not. Only 8% of people actually stick to their New Year’s resolution! What separates this group from the rest of us? How can you reach your goal in 2019?
Keep reading to learn five ways you can make a more successful resolution.

BE SPECIFIC

Claiming that you want to get in shape is incredibly vague. Are you trying to see a certain number on the scale? Do you want to be able to do 10 pushups? Are you training to run a 5K? Take a closer look at your goal and make sure it is specific, measurable and time-bound.

CONNECT WITH YOUR WHY

Ask yourself, “Why do I want to achieve this goal?” If your goal is tied to a deeper truth, and you can identify and stay connected to that “why,” it makes your resolution more meaningful. Taking steps towards something you really want is more likely to create happiness in your life.

SHARE YOUR GOAL

Putting your goal out there into the universe is one of the easiest ways to hold yourself accountable. Yes, you’re going to have to be a bit vulnerable, but you’re far more likely to succeed if you know someone else is counting on you. Plus, sharing your resolution creates a support system, which dramatically increases your odds of success.

GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY

Setting a goal isn’t enough if you don’t actually think you can accomplish it. Positive change doesn’t happen overnight. To successfully overcome lifelong habits and behavior patterns, you have to correct your negative thinking and work on believing in yourself, too.

BE REALISTIC

Your resolution should challenge you, but it shouldn’t be out of your reach. If you set your expectations too high, you’ll likely feel paralyzed, unsure where to begin. Don’t let this discourage you from trying to make drastic changes, just be mindful of how you approach it. If you’re working towards a big goal, start by breaking it down into mini, weekly goals. This will help you hold yourself accountable, track your progress, and create a reward you can look forward to reaching each week.
