US Sports Culture: It’s Time to Stop Denying Reality About Transgender Athletes
Thomas, a biological male who identifies as a woman, set new Ivy League records for the women’s 500 and 200 freestyle and smashed numerous UPenn records in women’s swimming.
In the 1650 freestyle final, Thomas, who used to swim on UPenn’s men’s team as Will Thomas, blew the competition out of the water—finishing first with a devastating, 38-second lead.
Sadly, stories such as this one have become more common. If the Biden-Harris administration has its way, they could become the rule.
Just a few weeks after Thomas trounced biologically female teammates, President Joe Biden’s Department of Education announced plans to amend Title IX regulations to conform to the president’s executive order on what it calls “Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation.”
Such amendments by the Education Department would allow biological males to compete against women in the name of “equality” and “preventing discrimination.”
But the truth is, these amendments would contradict reality, equality, and popular opinion.
Hormone levels alone don’t make someone a woman. And no amount of cross-sex hormones can undo the biological benefits of male genetics and development.
A 2020 study by the BMJ, formerly the British Journal of Medicine, shows that male athletes who are “transitioning” retain a competitive edge against women even after two years of taking estrogen.
In earlier days, one wouldn’t have needed a scientific study to prove the point. Thomas’ 38-second lead in the freestyle speaks for itself.
And yet, gender ideologues continue to deny reality.
Despite the science, the NCAA—and the International Olympics Committee—requires that a biological male’s testosterone must be suppressed for only one year before that male is free to compete against women.
Like the NCAA, the Biden administration’s latest announcement denies the science of biological sex.
However, denying the truth has consequences. Specifically, the denial of sexual reality robs women of the very opportunities protected by the federal law known as Title IX.
Under Title IX, women’s athletics received equal resources for facilities, training, recruitment, and scholarships. As a result, far more women participated in sports.
In 1972, the number of female athletes in high school totaled 295,000. Now there are 2.6 million. The number of female college athletes has quintupled in that same time.
Title IX also is credited with decreasing dropout rates for women and increasing the number of women in higher education.
Allowing trans-identifying biological males to compete in women’s sports, or for women’s scholarships, reverses this progress.
Thomas’ drubbing of female swimmers in the Ivy League is just the latest example. The female athlete who would have placed first ended up placing second—to Thomas, a biological male with a proven biological advantage.
What’s more, Thomas’ personal bests in the 500 and 1650 freestyle would break current NCAA records in women’s swimming set by an Olympic gold medalist, Katie Ledecky.
Imagine if Thomas had competed against Ledecky and performed at a personal-best level. The world might never have come to know of Ledecky. Now imagine how many women athletes would miss out on scholarship and career opportunities if forced to compete against biological males in every contest. This is the world the White House seeks to usher in.
Being out of step with reality is bad enough. But the Biden administration is out of step with Americans, too.
Polling shows that 67% of Americans oppose allowing biological males who identify as transgender to compete in girls and women’s athletics. Twenty states are suing the Department of Education over the new regulations.
Over 37 states have introduced bills to keep women’s sports for women. Nine have passed such bills.
The Biden administration and its gender-activist allies made their unpopular view clear from Day One. The administration won’t be content to stop at changing Title IX regulations. It will go on to rewrite the law to force female athletes across the nation to compete against biological males.
Barring that, the White House will seek to change the law piece by piece. It will be the death of women’s sports by a thousand cuts.
Enough is enough. As we prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX next year, elected officials should stand up for women, for reality, and for the American public.

US Sports Psyche: Are You a River or a Pond?
- Author Bruce Wilson
Bruce Wilson, PhD
“Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character.”- Albert Einstein
Dualities
Present day life is full of dualities. We are constantly inundated by oppositional views and attitudes. Positive attitudes are in a perpetual competition with negative attitudes. However, there is an attitudinal movement on the rise that may be even more challenging than our current attitudinal polarities. Neutral attitudes purvey an indifference and complacency that would prefer to ignore the issues of the day. These individuals would say: “Leave it for someone else to solve.” The neutral attitude modus operandi is unemotional and detached from the need for change.
“Nothing is interesting if you’re not interested.”- Helen MacInness
Neutrality
Potentially, indifference and lack of interest is an even bigger threat to human existence than difference. Polarities tend to work toward compromise while neutrality remains at a standstill. This is the proverbial difference between a river versus a pond. The river is self-sustainable while the pond becomes more and more stagnant. Immobility in a mobile world is an anachronism to functionality. Neutral attitudes may disallow some of our unwanted anxiety but simultaneously limit our potential for growth. Growth has always been a product of debate and innovation. The very notion of progress depends on the process of resolving different views and attitudes to yield better outcomes.
“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”- Andy Warhol
Neutral attitudes maintain the status-quo. They are part of an ambivalent strategy to avoid being responsible for creating change. Positive change does not happen automatically. Negative change, on the other hand, can definitely evolve on its own. The automaticity of change may not be desirable change. For example, climate change is a current representation of this automatic but undesirable change.
Choice
“Between stimulus and response, there is a space where we choose our response.”- Stephen Covey
Making decisions is not an easy task but it is extremely viable to our future on the planet. We know that neutral attitudes do not promote our decision-making capacity. Instead, the neutral attitude is like running in place, there is no forward movement. We actually need both positive and negative attitudes in our lives in order to distinguish direction. Failure and success are expected and realized through this competition of ideas. However, without these comparative ideologies we could become more and more neutral and eventually immobile.
Change
Resistance to change is driven by ambiguity. When we stay neutral in our beliefs and actions, we are maintaining only the status-quo. Do you want to be a river or a pond? A pond will eventually stagnate and is an unhealthy option. To avoid stagnation, we need to become a river. The river has self-cleansing properties. Movement creates change.
Our internal self-talk is a good example of the value of positive or negative over neutral. We listen to our own thoughts and work through the inevitable contest between “this” and “that” voices. In this challenge, we surface from the depths of our reverie to discover either something that works or something that fails. Either way we win. Because there is growth through success or failure. Indifference has no winning!

Trending Sports News and Live Streams Featuring: Philip Rivers and Chargers Agree To Part Ways and Sports Food: Diet For Athletics
Sports Food: Diet For Athletics
By: John Perkins 1. Sports drinks Soda, water without gas, tonics and isotonics (Gatorade, Powerade), plus really useful waters containing aloe juice, etc. etc. This is the most necessary of all that you can buy at the bar. To train and not to drink is like smoking between sets; load on the cardiovascular system is not the most useful. The best choice of a sports drink for training in a hall - usual still water. All the rest - either for fitness gourmets, or for those who did not have time to eat properly before training (in this case, the bottle of "Gatoreida" will not allow dangerous fall of blood glucose level during the load).
2. Proteins
That is, a protein that is easier to digest than the same protein, taken from eggs, milk, cottage cheese, meat or fish. However, the need for his admission from the very beginning of the classes is greatly exaggerated financially interested in this people. The increased need for protein can arise only in response to no less elevated loads, which, as a rule, occur after a year or two of very intense and regular training. For muscle growth, a novice serving of a protein shake before and after training will be useful only if he last ate 6-8 hours ago.
3. Gainers
Protein-carbohydrate drinks, stimulating the secretion of insulin - the main anabolic hormone, responsible for the assimilation of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. In practice, the gainers are used to quickly gain weight. Taking 2-3 servings of a geyner a day with food (and not instead of it), any sloth will accumulate a five kilogram of muscle mass in just a month. Those who have been training for a long time, it is useful to drink the geyners right before classes - their increased caloric content will help to conduct more intensive training and recover faster. In this regard, the gainers are much more useful than proteins, but, like all high-speed, have a side effect - the inevitable increase in fat under the skin.
4. Vitamins, amino acids and other fat burners
All this can easily be combined into one group of expensive, probably useful, but not the most necessary drugs. Alas, the sports nutrition market is also a market, it needs diversification of the product, and therefore you will always be offered a new chondroprotector, then a new creatine. Yes, the producers will not take offense at me, but these products duplicate what you can buy in a pharmacy, and much cheaper. The best chondro- and cardioprotective agent is regular fish oil. Sports vitamins carry a thermonuclear dosage, which is difficult to absorb even a very heavy athlete; Pharmaceutical dosages are much better for normal active people. Amino acids - in general the lot of competing bodybuilders. So if you do not have extra money, excess health and unnecessary curiosity, refrain from applying the above.
Helpful advice: if you constantly use the products of a fitness bar, do not be lazy to ask the bartender to look at the jar of what you are constantly drinking - a gainer or protein. In many bars there is a restaurant "tradition" not to report in cocktails recommended by the manufacturer a dose, providing volume of ice and other by-products. If you notice the difference (the bartender is obliged to tell you how many grams of this or that product he pours into a cocktail) - order a double portion or buy your own jar.
Special diet provides you with muscle grow but you also need a lot of energy and strength to build muscles. That is why you may need a pre-workout supplements.
Pre-workout supplements are one of the types of sports nutrition that increase the working capacity of an athlete before training, increase strength, help build muscle mass and burn subcutaneous fat. There are a number of different ingredients in them. Some of the ingredients are effective, and some are not, but in the aggregate, they are a very active mixture that really improves the quality of the athletes' training process.
Pre-workout supplements
Composition of pre-workouts
The composition of Pre-workout supplements includes many components, usually 15-25, but most often you can find the following substances:
Creatine - increases the strengths, stimulates the growth of muscle mass. Pre-Workouts in the composition contain a variety of transport systems, which improve the assimilation of creatine.
BCAA - 3 essential amino acids that nourish muscle tissue and prevent catabolic processes.
Arginine - is needed to make up the muscles and the effect of pumping.
Vitamins and minerals are vital components for the human body, the reserves of which are depleted during intensive training, so they need to be restored.
Caffeine - a stimulant of the central nervous system, promotes the acceleration of metabolism.
Geranamine is another stimulant of the central nervous system, several times stronger than caffeine.
Taurine - a stimulant and a reductant, according to unconfirmed data stimulates the production of growth hormone.
Beta-alanine - restores muscles after training.
As practice shows, the remaining components, which are part of the predecessors, are not effective.
Cons of Pre-workout supplements
Pre-workout supplements contain a lot of stimulant and other various components that can be dangerous for the cardiovascular system, therefore, it is not worth taking sports complexes to athletes with heart problems, and it is also not recommended to use preworkouts if you are 40 years old or more. Cases and problems with digestion associated with taking stimulant supplements are not uncommon before buying a product, check the composition, make sure you do not have an individual intolerance to one of the components.
The Best Pre-workout supplements
The best Pre-workout supplements This list contains only pre-training, time-tested, they collected a lot of positive feedback and recommendations from professional athletes:
Jack3D from USPLabs;
No Xplode from BSN;
Mesomorph from APS;
Assault from MusclePharm;
Friction from VPX;
SuperPump Max from Gaspari Nutrition.
You can familiarize yourself with each of these products by simply clicking on the name in the list. All of them showed incredible effectiveness, of course, each of these preworkouts deserves attention.
How to take a pre-workout complex
Each manufacturer, together with a pre-workout instructor, provides consumers with an instruction on how to use the additive, while holding it, you can achieve maximum results. Deviate from the recommended dosage is not necessary, it can lead to a mass of health problems. Some companies also offer athletes to take Pre-workout supplements and during rest days, it is worth saying that in such cases they are more worried about the state of their wallet, rather than your physical form. In days off from training, it is better to take some restorative and nutritious supplements such as protein or amino acid complexes, daily use of potent stimulants of the central nervous system will deplete your strength and only slow the progression.
Reviews on Pre-workout supplements
In discussions at various forums and the most popular bodybuilding portals, one can find both positive and negative feedback about Pre-workout supplements. Athletes share their feelings and results, discuss the taste, effectiveness, safety and quality of products. Having analyzed a lot of Internet resources, we came to the conclusion that there are many times more positive reviews of pre-teens, moreover, one often finds statements by reputable sportsmen who recommend one or another stimulating complex.

The Big 12 on US Sports Net Featuring: Kansas at Baylor Women's Basketball Highlights and Basketball Body Breakthrough!
Amateur Bodybuilder Of The Week: Basketball Body Breakthrough!
I weighed 170 pounds in high school and became the poster boy for tall, skinny, and awkward. That didn't change much during my first few years in college. I made every excuse not to lift despite previous coaches and others who said it would make me a better player.
When I transferred to a new university, I started living the party life and reached a point where I was tired of drinking every night. I was tired of being tall, weak, and lanky, so I decided to make a change. I'm the type of person who likes a challenge and I quickly fell in love with the challenge to build a stronger, healthier me.
I got really serious about lifting and heard the NPC started a new men's physique division. It seemed like the perfect fit for me and I made a new goal to prepare for my first competition. After the first competition, I fell in love with the experience.

The Big 10 On US Sports Net Featuring: Highlights: Willis Goes for 21 in Win | Wisconsin at Minnesota | and What Is Basketball Speed?
What Is Basketball Speed? Improve Your Game With Valuable Training! From BBcom
There is no question there are other skills that are important in your development as a basketball player. Being able to shoot the lights out is huge. Being a dependable ball-handler is necessary. Making good decisions is a must. But, all those skills become amplified when you become a speed demon.
How? Well, you can get off better shots now because you can easily jet away from your defender. Your handle now seems tighter, because you are blowing by your man every chance you get.
Your decision-making improves immensely because you are moving so much faster and the rest of the game seems to be move slower. If you can slow the game down, you'll have more time to make better, smarter decisions.
What Is Basketball Speed?
So, what is basketball speed? I'll first tell you what it isn't. It is not an all-out sprint. Although I'm sure he would make a fast (and decent) basketball player, putting Usain Bolt on a basketball court would not make him the "fastest player on the court".What does that mean exactly? It's just that basketball is a chaotic sport, where emphasis is placed on the ability to accelerate rapidly and usually in non-linear directions.
For example, in a game situation, you may have to accelerate hard left toward the baseline to cut off your man. Then, after a missed shot, you immediately change direction as you move to catch an outlet pass. You make the catch and speed dribble, accelerating toward the other team's basket until you hit the free throw line, where you have to stop on a dime and pull up for an easy 15-footer. That's basketball speed.
Improving Your Speed
Now that we know what basketball speed is, and we know basketball speed kills, your next question should be "How can I improve my basketball speed?" Good question. Let's get it answered.Since basketball speed is a combination of acceleration capabilities and reaction time. Those are the two main things we want to improve. But, due to the "Trainers Honesty Code of Conduct", I am obligated to tell you that reaction time is actually largely genetic and training for it will probably just end up wasting your time.
That leaves us with improving your acceleration abilities. Acceleration is based on the ability to overcome your own bodyweight and inertia as rapidly as possible. The two most important things we can do here are to improve your ability to overcome your bodyweight and your ability to do it as fast as humanly possible.
To knock out the first one (overcoming your body), the key is getting stronger. As you gain strength, your body will actually "appear" lighter to you and therefore, it will be much easier to maneuver around.
To work on the second one, there are two things you can do. The first thing is sprint training. But this isn't the normal type of sprinting you probably think about, where you run hard for a certain amount of time, rest for a short period and then sprint again. In my profession, we call that conditioning.
Real speed work needs to be of very-high quality, with more than ample rest between sprints. These longer rest periods guarantee you won't be fatigued from the last sprint completed.
The second thing you can do is what I like to call basketball sprints. With these, you actually get on a basketball court with a ball, pick a couple of your favorite moves and work on repping them out as fast as you possibly can.
Try starting at the top of the 3-point line, make one of your chosen moves and immediately explode directly toward the basket as fast as you can into a lay-up or dunk.
Since we are already on the basketball court, we want to be more specific with our training so you'll want to use shorter rest periods, to better simulate game situations. But your effort should still be 100 percent.
Conclusion
If you followed that program consistently, you'd see awesome gains in your basketball speed. And then, as you moved closer to the beginning of your basketball season, you could switch up the sprints, doing the basketball sprints on days 1 and 3 and the normal sprints on day 2.Now that you know what basketball speed is, what it's all about and exactly what needs to be done to improve it, what are you waiting for? Go get some speed!

Take a Student Tour Group to Philadelphia to Study Black History
By: Howard Clemens A student trip to Philadelphia is an excellent opportunity to study African American History. The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) is the best starting point for the tour. The AAMP is the most definitive collection of African American art, culture and history and best describes the ever changing social fabric of African Americans that define the region. The native cultures of Africa are also honored here.
The African American Museum in Philadelphia is located at 7th and Arch Streets, in the heart of Downtown Philadelphia. After a morning trip to the Museum, student travel groups can have lunch in nearby Chinatown or at the Reading Terminal Market.
The African American Museum in Philadelphia
The African American Museum in Philadelphia houses far more than art. In fact it traces the lives and work of a wide diaspora of African Americans across the United States and their heritage in the Philadelphia region and in native Africa. There is usually a rotating exhibit in one gallery. A significant show from the Permanent collection is always on display in another gallery: Audacious Freedom: African Americans in Philadelphia 1776-1876. The exhibition is interactive, with a narrated timeline that spans 100 years. Trailblazers from the African American Community are highlighted with video projections telling the story of their lives. These video narratives make history larger than life for students. There are other educational programs at the Museum as well. For teachers preparing students for the trip, expect exercises will be eye opening and told from a unique historical perspective. Visit: http://www.aampmuseum.org/education.html to learn more about Traveling Trunks, Iconic Images Mural Tour and the Passport to Culture Summer Youth Enrichment Program.
Barnes Foundation
The Barnes Foundation relocated from an estate in Merion, Pennsylvania, to Philadelphia several years ago. In order to satisfy Barnes’ will, which stated the art must be kept in the original mansion, those who designed the building’s interiors recreated them exactly as they were in the 1920s. The collection was displayed precisely in the same places inside the new building. The Barnes Foundation is next to the Rodin Museum on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Albert C. Barnes is known for his collection of post-impressionist and early modern paintings. He also has an extensive African American collection of arts and practical items used in African cultures. Barnes felt the African Art to be a highly developed form. So, he collected figural sculptures, ceremonial masks, and domestic objects as well as those used in rituals and celebrations. The collection is worthwhile seeing on this tour. Many of these pieces of the African diaspora are now well documented by African American Art Scholar Christa Clarke, PhD.
President’s House Commemorative Site
A perhaps unknown facet about the President’s House in Philadelphia, which honors George and Martha Washington, is about the enslaved members of the household.
Altogether Washington brought 9 enslaved Africans to his three story mansion in Philadelphia, where he and Martha lived from 1790-97. President Washington was known to treat his slaves in his household well. Eventually he freed them in his will and donated money to the creation of the African Episcopal Church of Saint Thomas. Students of Black History will find this remarkable and important historical site to visit.
Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church
One of the first historically black and abolitionist churches in the new country was the Mother Bethel. A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia located at 6th and Lombard Streets. The first church was convened in 1794. In 1805, the building was expanded and the church leaders and congregation would become a leading force in fighting against slavery by helping those who escaped and were on the run. Beginning at its infancy, and as the decades wore on, the Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church would be a leading force in abolishing slavery all together. Bishop Richard Allen constructed the first church and expanded the second while leading a congregation of black Christians and allies in a fierce anti-slavery movement. All students of black history will want to visit the Richard Allen Museum, which is part of the Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church.
As any teacher can easily see, Philadelphia is a city rich in African American history, culture, politics and the arts. There are many more places to visit in Philadelphia, which celebrate black history, besides those noted here. Trip leaders and teachers may feel free to explore and suggest other places in Philadelphia that would enrich a black history tour.
