NORFOLK, Va. (January 8, 2020) –
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference unveiled its indoor track and field weekly honors where Howard University sophomore hurdler
Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ky.) and junior sprinter Ameenah Saalih
(Willingboro, N.J.) earned recognition for their tremendous
performances at the George Mason Father Diamond Invitational. The
announcement came Wednesday morning.
Clyburn won MEAC Male Track Athlete of the Week while Saalih took home the conference’s female track athlete of the week.
The Louisville native won the 60-meter hurdles, turning in a MEAC-best 8.03 mark, which currently ranks tied for 24th in the nation.
Saalih
set a new school record in the women’s 60-meter dash, winning gold with a
7.54 time. For her efforts, the New Jersey product has the fastest MEAC
time this season, which also ranks tied
for 24th in the country.
Other notable Bison performances included junior
Nathaniel Are (Chicago) winning the triple jump, leaping 13.72 meters, and freshman
De’ja Dade (Dallas) placing second in the high jump with a MEAC qualifying mark of 1.60 meters.
Norfolk
State’s freshman Anthony Giacchetta earned MEAC Men’s Field Athlete of
the Week honors while teammate sophomore Arieana Parker was named MEAC
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
