Bison take part in the Terrapin Invitational and Virginia Tech Invitational
After a weekend away from competition, HU returns to action for the Navy Invitational II, hosted by the Midshipmen.

WASHINGTON (January 16, 2020) –
Howard University
men’s and women’s track & field squads continue the indoor season
with a pair of meets Friday and Saturday.
On Jan.
17-18, the Bison track student-athletes head to Blacksburg, Va., for the
Virginia Tech Invitational, hosted by the Hokies. Friday’s (Jan. 17)
action starts 5 p.m. and Saturday’s (Jan. 18)
festivities begin 11 a.m.
Saturday,
majority of HU’s throwers travel to nearby Landover, Md., for the
Terrapin Invitational, hosted by Maryland. The one-day event gets
underway at 10 a.m. inside the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex (8001 Sheriff Rd, Landover, MD 20785).
LAST TIMEOUT
On Jan.
11, both teams were victorious at the 2020 HBCU Battle in New York City.
Also, seven more Bison qualified for the Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference Championships that will be held in Landover,
Md. (Feb. 27-29) at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex.
Second-year runner
Gavin Williams (Dover, Del.) led the men's squad, thanks to a
pair of individual victories, including a record-setting performance. In
the men's 3000-meter run, Williams etched himself in the school's
record book after winning the event with a new time
of 8:52.25.
For the women, throwers
Diana Effiom (Dallas) and Symone Marsh (Hillsborough,
N.J.) led the way with an epic duel. Effiom won the event, thanks to her
record-setting performance (15.69 meters), while Marsh took third
overall.
MEET PREVIEWS
VIRGINIA TECH INVITATIONAL
Virginia
Tech opens its indoor season with a home meet, featuring several
well-known programs throughout the East Coast, including Charlotte,
Duke, Elon, Howard, Liberty, Pitt, UNC, VCU, Virginia,
Wake Forest and the host Hokies.
The event takes place inside Rector Field House where admission is FREE.

TERRAPIN INVITATIONAL
The
Bison throwers begin their competition at the Terrapin Invitational in
Landover, Md., at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Center (8001
Sheriff Rd, Landover, MD 20785). The competition
starts Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the men’s weight throw.
