Learn more about Freestyle Wrestling and see if it is right for you at this time. Read our review about Freestyle Wrestling and enjoy the article.

Freestyle Wrestling is practiced all over the world. If you include this and Greco-Roman, these are the two styles that are taking place at the Olympic Games. If you are from the United States this is good ol' mainstream wrestling as you would know it. And if you include track and field, this is one of the oldest sports games in the world. High School as well as College Wrestling are played using a different set of rules.

Freestyle Wrestling includes mostly submission holds, and the objective here is to pin your opponent to the mat, usually for 3 seconds for an immediate win. Its origins derive from Catch-As-Catch-Can Wrestling. The use of your opponents legs, whether it be for offense or defense, is allowed in Freestyle or Collegiate. There are four main types of Amateur Competitive Wrestling that are being practiced today. This statement comes from the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles or FILA.

FILA said Freestyle Wrestling started in Great Britian. Catch-As-Catch-Can has a lot of people following this sport in Great Britian. In the 19th Century this sport gained a lot of popularity. Back then the objective was to pin the opponents shoulder to the ground, and almost any technique or hold was allowed. This sport had trouble gaining initial popularity because the Greco-Roman style was very popular and hogging all the action back then. The 1904 Saint Louis Olympics was the first was the first time it was recognized as an Olympic Sport.

There were 40 Wrestlers who took part in this event and they were all American. Most of the rules used for this event were the same as from Catch-As-Catch-Can, but there were some restrictions on certain holds that weren't allowed. In the Summer Olympics, there were seven total weight classes allowed to participate. The matches that took place in the 19th Century were very long, in fact, they would be up to 8-9 hours. The winners of that match would be by a draw. They started setting time limits for matches in the 20th Century.
