On Saturday night, the Youse's Orioles (13-20) played host to the Bethesda Big Train (27-6) at Shirley Povich Field. In the 7-3 win, Henry Sisson (North Carolina), took the rubber and surrendered three runs on four hits in five innings of work.
Out of the bullpen, Josh Thorne (Stetson) pitched three strong innings allowing zero runs on three hits. Thorne earned the win, his fourth of the season. Tim Yandel (Tulane) pitched a scoreless 9th inning.
The Big Train struck early on a Brandon Lowe (Maryland) groundout that scored Stephen Alemais (Tulane), who reached on a throwing error by the Orioles.
However, Baltimore scored the next three runs of the game giving them a 3-1 lead.
The Oriole lead remained at two runs until the top of the 7th inning when the Big Train crossed the plate for five runs while batting around the order.
It started when Ryne Willard (N.C. State) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Wes Rea (Mississippi State). As a pinch hitter, Sean Labsan (Florida Atlantic), then lasered a ball down the right field line for an RBI double. Andrew Brown (San Diego State) and Brandon Lowe hit consecutive RBI singles before Chris Lewis (Sacramento State) hit a sacrifice fly to give the Big Train a 6-3 lead.
In the top of the 8th inning, the Big Train tacked on an insurance run. Kevin Tatum (Cornell) led the inning off with a double and scored when the next batter, Cody Brown (Mississippi State), hit a sharp single up the middle. The Big Train took a 7-3 lead, heading into the bottom of the 8th inning.
