HEALING COMES FROM HEAVEN
by Creflo Dollar |
We all want good health, but when we look around us we often see the manifestations of just the opposite. Being healthy and whole means there’s nothing missing or broken physically or mentally in our lives. There’s no denying we live in a broken world, and everyone needs healing on some level. God gave us doctors and health care professionals; He uses them to send us true healing straight from heaven.
There’s no sickness or disease in heaven and it isn’t God’s will for us here on earth. He wants the best for us, and our trust in Him puts us in a position to receive good things from Him. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). One of the gifts He blesses us with is the gift of good health, if we simply accept it.
We accept this gift by leading a healthy lifestyle and by taking care of ourselves mentally and emotionally. Thoughts are powerful, and they can affect us physically if we harbor them long enough. “A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22, AMPC). Being happy is a choice we make. We can be as happy as we choose to be; therefore, we have a great degree of influence over our health and wellness.
Jesus spent much time healing others of their physical illnesses and emotional distresses. Each time He did so, He also restored wholeness to whatever was broken or missing in their lives. Jesus healed the centurion’s servant, “And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick” (Luke 7:10), as well as the woman with the bleeding issue. “And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace” (Luke 8:48). He wants healing for us as well.
No doubt the distress of the centurion and the woman was great and they were broken inside when they met Jesus, but He replaced their fear and pain with peace and joy. He did the same thing for Jairus when He brought Jairus’ daughter back from the dead. “While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole” (Luke 8:49, 50). All of these people received healing for themselves or their loved ones because they believed God.
When we need healing, it’s hard for many of us to find peace of mind. Whether what’s broken is physical or emotional, trusting God for our healing puts us on the path to wholeness. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3). Focusing on His healing abilities has a powerful effect.
Whether we received a bad doctor’s report or we’re heartsick over something that happened in our lives, healing is available from God, the great physician. There’s nothing He can’t fix, if we simply bring it to Him. “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3). He’s willing and able to restore to us whatever type of wholeness we lack, on whatever level we need. All we need to do is ask Him.
