BOWIE, Md. - The Bulldogs who are coming off a huge win against Northern division rival Virginia Union and now are in preparation for Homecoming versus Lincoln (Pa.). Bowie State is ranked the number 20th team in the nation and number four in Super Region 2, defeated the Panthers last Saturday 40-22. This win was huge for the Bulldogs post-season resume. At this point, the Bulldogs find themselves in position to host a playoff game at Bulldog Stadium for the first time in school history if they win out.
Visiting Lincoln (Pa.) is winless on the year and suffered a 73-21 defeat at the hands of Virginia State. Even though Lincoln is winless they have one of the better players in the league on offense that the Bulldog defense will have to keep an eye on. That player is senior receiver Andre Price. Price is a NFL prospect who just recently committed to playing in the FCS National Bowl in Daytona (Fla.) at the end of the year. Senior defensive back Rahman Kamara should be up for the task of defending Price.
The Bulldogs are looking to make a statement this week to bolster their playoff resume. Additionally, the Bulldogs have a couple players up for post-season awards that are trying to finish the last two weeks of the regular season strong. Junior star quarterback Amir Hall is certainly a leading candidate for CIAA Offensive Player of the Year in which he won last year, the Deacon Jones Award (Black College Heisman) and the Harlon Hill award which is the Division II version of the Heisman Trophy. Hall leads the nation in passing touchdowns, total offense and number two in the nation in passing yards. Hall though isn’t the only Bulldog up for a post-season award as junior defensive captain Derrick Tate is a candidate for CIAA Defensive Player of the Year. Tate is second in the conference in sacks with seven. The junior defensive end has been a force for the Bulldogs defense all season.
The way you can help the campaign for both players is by going on social media and putting the hash-tags #HallForHarlonHill , or #TateForCIAADPOY. Let’s make sure our student-athletes hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. Senior Day festivities will begin at 12:35 sharp with kickoff between the Lions and Bulldogs set for 1 p.m.
