THE BLESSINGS OF GOOD HEALTH AND LONG LIFE

A good quality of life is important and most people think it is determined by external factors. Good health certainly contributes to the quality of life we want, but staying healthy and living long extends beyond simply exercising and eating right. There’s a strong connection between the mind and the body; what we think about can either prolong our lives or shorten them. When we’re struggling with health issues, we need to believe that God has blessed us with good health and long life.
There’s a spiritual aspect to health and life that most people don’t understand. Doctors and medication certainly play a part, but we’ve all seen cases where a loved one died seemingly because they gave up and lost their will to live. Life on the physical level begins on the spiritual level, and a joyful heart can give us the strength we need to push through health issues. “A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22, AMPC).
We find that joy only when we get to know God through the Scriptures. Many people don’t understand what the Bible says concerning their own healing, and they assume that somehow it’s God’s will that they’re sick. Nothing could be further from the truth. “My son, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; For length of days and years of a life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death], these shall they add to you…It shall be health to your nerves and sinews, and marrow and moistening to your bones” (Proverbs 3:1, 2, 8, AMPC). It’s actually God’s will that we live long, productive lives.
Peace and joy dramatically impact our lives for the better, and these are some of the things God wants for us. We don’t have to accept a dreary, average life; Jesus Christ went to the cross for us so that we can experience much more than simply a dull existence from day to day.“…I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows) (John 10:10, AMPC). Regardless of what the world tells us, this abundance includes abundantly good health, regardless of what stage of life we’re in.
Another thing that confuses many people is the word “salvation.” Most people think they have to wait until they die and get to heaven to have it, but that’s not true. Salvation includes being saved from health issues, and this can start right now. “With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation” (Psalm 91:16, NKJV). We don’t have to put up with the curse of early death or be frightened by it, because God offers us the blessings of good heath and long life.
Faith in God’s promises of longevity and freedom from sickness goes a long way in our healing. During His ministry, Jesus was able to heal the centurion’s servant (Matthew 8:13) and the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:34) because they believed that health and wholeness was His will for them. When we steadfastly hold on to the belief that this is His will for us as well, we position ourselves to receive it. It’s time to accept our healing, right now.
