MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – In their first team event of the New Year, the Bowie State University women’s bowling team placed first at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Event II held at the Bowl America bowling alley.
The Bulldogs tallied 11,007 total pins which included 3,641 pin count in Baker System Scoring and finished with a record of 11-1 during the weekend. Junior Diamond Carter (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the way with an average of 167.40 for 5th place individually. Senior Chantel Farlow (Columbia, Md.) ranked second in team scoring average (155.60) and fellow senior Shannon Weaver (Fort Washington, Md.) was third with an overage of 155.00. Farlow and Weaver ranked 13th and 15th respectively among all bowlers.
Virginia Union University was second overall with 10,996 total pin falls and ended the weekend with an 8-4 record while host Virginia State University finished third overall in the North with a record of 7-5 and a total pin count of 10,956. Elizabeth City State University placed fourth overall with 8,853 total pins (3-9 record) and Chowan University rounded out the northern field in fifth with 9,260 total pins (1-11 record).
The Bulldogs will return to the lanes on Feb. 9-11 in Raleigh, N.C. for the CIAA Event III hosted by Saint Augustine’s University.
