YOU PLANT BUT GOD BRINGS THE HARVEST
SCRIPTURE:
For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
(Mark 4:28-29)

DEVOTIONAL:
Last week, we talked about how the kingdom of God is like a farmer planting seed that continues to grow day and night, even while he sleeps. Like a “spiritual farmer,” you and I plant “seed” when we share the good news of Jesus Christ with others.
Have you ever shared the Gospel with someone and felt like your words were hitting a brick wall? They scoffed, mocked or rejected what you had to say! You become frustrated, especially if you’ve tried again and again with that person, and feel like you just aren’t getting anywhere.
This week’s parable picks up where we left off last week. It shows that when the seed (Word of God) has been planted in the soil (a human heart), at first you may not “see” anything. But, the seed is growing: first the blade, then the ear, then the full plant bursts forth (step by step).
Friend, do not be discouraged. What is actually happening in the heart may not be readily apparent on the surface. Growth is a process, and God has His own timetable. It is not your ability to convince them that will bring the results. The seed grows all by itself—God does the work and will bring forth the harvest!
PRAYER:
Lord, thank you for helping me to be patient as Your Word and Your Spirit are working in the heart of (Name the person(s) with whom you’ve shared the Word of God). By faith, I believe the seed(s) planted will bring forth a mighty harvest in due season! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
