Athletes and Warriors!
I take great comfort in knowing that I don't have to be a fitness genius to help get the best fitness, strength, conditioning and performance information into your hands so that you are healthier and stronger for the rest of your life. I have surrounded myself with a great team to help you. With that in mind here is a simple but powerful motivational message from our partners at GoPro Workouts to help you to forget about perfection, and always seek better in all areas. -Nate Not everyone can sprint like Usain Bolt, but everyone has the potential to get faster. Not everyone can be an Olympic power lifter, but everyone has the potential to get stronger. Not everyone can shoot like Stephen Curry, but every basketball player has the potential to become an improved shooter. (or ball-handler, etc.) Not everyone can be Mike Krzyzewski, but every coach has the potential to be more effective in leading his or her team. Not everyone can graduate at the top of their class, but every student has the potential to improve his or her grades. Not everyone can be a world-renowned college professor, but every teacher has the potential to be a more effective educator. Not everyone can be a great orator, but everyone has the potential to improve their public speaking skills. Better parent. Better friend. Better teammate. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do. All of us have potential, and we can all improve in some area(s) of our lives. Talent, skill, and ability are great, but they're useless if they're not applied. Potential is a double-edged sword. Having the potential to learn, grow, develop, and improve is a blessing. Unrealized potential is a curse. What are you doing to unlock your potential? What are you willing to do to improve? Need help? Click here

Sports Psychology - Sports Mindset Responsible For Improved Athletic Performance
This is possibly the most important missing "link" in any athlete or fitness warrior's success track is conquering the negative influences that may keep us from performing our best on and off the field of play. As the good book even says: "As a man (as in human) thinks in his heart, so is he(she)" So if you need to change the way your think about your fitness or strength and conditioning program to help zoom it and you to success, then read on!
-Nate Sports Psychology - Sports Mindset Responsible For Improved Athletic Performance by David Andrews When it comes to sports psychology, most "experts" focus on studying the psychology and kinesiology of athletic performance and success rates of those athletes and/or teams. When most sports psychologists work with athletes or teams to improve athletic performance, they often home in on goal setting, relaxation and self-talk and, in some instances, they’ll see significant behavioral change. But, statistics show that this improved athletic performance doesn’t always remain consistent. Eventually, the individual or the team slides back down, oftentimes to the same level of achievement previously achieved before the sports psychologist came in. Why is this? The answer is very simple, actually. In most cases, sports psychology is addressing the effect instead of the real root of the issue, the CAUSE or, put more succinctly, how the athlete is THINKING. Any athlete can set new goals – both individually and in the spirit of a team – to improve his or her athletic performance. But if the athlete doesn’t truly believe – inherently – that the goal can be achieved, the goal will never be reached. Any athlete can work on his or her sports mindset to relax more or undertake self talk motivation before a game, match or performance, but unless that individual understands EXACTLY how the chemistry and energy of his or her thought is transmitted into the athletic performance, that athlete will have a difficult time maintaining the championship "sports mindset." Real championship mindset is obviously a culmination of many things but, in the end, champions have one thing in common: They have crossed the "Knowing-Doing" gap. In other words, most athletes already possess the sports mindset – it’s been drilled into them just like the endless physical drills they perform every day. They KNOW what they need to do, but they’re not DOING it. Why can’t they just DO it? In the end, sports mindset really has nothing to do with athletic ability, agility, speed or strength. True sports mindset has to do with: - Understanding HOW to think, - Recognizing how unconscious thought has influenced the athletic performance to date, and - Learning how to permanently shift one’s thoughts into properly DOING what one KNOWS to do by first understanding how energy is involved in the creation of a thought. The organization, SportsMind Success – SportsMindSuccess.com – is one such entity that focuses almost exclusively on the core "thinking" issues that keep college and professional athletes and teams from achieving championship-oriented successes. With SportsMind Success workshops, webinars, consulting and ongoing curriculum built around this focus, athletes and coaches are finding that improvement is often quite dramatic, and that it proves to be consistently long lasting. In effect, old "thought patterns" are replaced with new thought patterns (and without any form of hypnosis!) and, as a result, individuals are finding that dramatic improvement also occurs in aspects of their lives OFF the field, too. Basketball Training: Reasons Why You Should Get a Personal Trainer
GoPro Workouts Trainer/Athlete KC Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles
It's no secret if you are going to be a serious athlete or fitness warrior, at some point it would be to your benefit to hire a personal trainer or strength and conditioning coach with experience in your primary sport. I say primary sport for the benefit of athletes and parents because it seems to be that the most successful athletes, whether they become pro or not, are two sport or more athletes. 80% of the players drafted by the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and more played more than one varsity sport. The lesson learned that even though you work with one of our trainers either in person or online, be sure to have a well-rounded physical education. It can mean the difference between a scholarship or even pro contract, or not. Above all enjoy your sport and your life by being as physically and mentally prepared as you can.

Basketball Training: Reasons Why You Should Get a Personal Trainer
by Rome Jorge Ramos
Do you like to play basketball either as just a pastime or as a pro player? Height does matter in this sport, and if you are adequate in this category, you can surely find the best playing position that you can become good at.
For example, if you are 6 footer at the most, the point guard position may be a good position for you. If you are a bit taller than that, being a shooting guard is undoubtedly an exciting opportunity as you have the green light to shoot the basketball and score for the team.
The other playing positions, i.e., the small forward, power forward, the center, are positions that require higher player heights. But even if not everyone is given the ideal height that they wish for, you can always find a good position that will fit your basketball personality and skill. Most surely if you are one of the better skilled players which, we all know, comes after proper and dedicated basketball training.
Everybody starts from somewhere and since not all of us were born as good as Kobe Bryant, most of us starts from the beginning. Even the best players of today began with studying the basics and fundamentals of the game before they became the stuff of basketball trading cards.
Before you can dunk that ball, you must first learn how to properly dribble. You must also understand what makes a higher percentage free throw shooting that you can depend on all the time. These are just a few of the basics you must first learn because there are so much more to lay ups and dunks in basketball.
But are your basketball basics and fundamentals sound? We all know that we can always do it, but it is also advisable to go get yourself a good personal basketball trainer to ensure that you make the most out of your potential because that is what trainers do.
Benefits of Finding Yourself a Basketball Trainer:
1. He will impart to you the best way of training for basketball.
The basics and fundamentals may be the easier part, but it is still important to learn how to do them properly. Doing so can save you a lot of pain by being able to avoid nasty injuries that happen during practices. The basics are the building blocks of those championship winning moves.
2. Your personal trainer will motivate you to go to the gym regularly.
It is not only because your personal basketball trainer will remind you of your training regimen, but since you have paid for his services, you will think about the money you spent. You will naturally want to make good use of the payment you made.
3. He will help you keep your eye on your goal.
He will praise you when you're doing the right things. But he will also tell you when you're doing it wrong. A good basketball trainer is straightforward even if what he says will hurt you.
He will custom-fit a training regimen that is right for your basketball abilities.
Not everyone was born with the same athletic skills so each one needs a program that is different from what others need. This is the basic idea of why you need to get a personal trainer. Your trainer's job is to create the most effective program for your unique needs.
5. Your trainer will be there to take note and evaluate your development.
He should be in the best position to do this because he is the one who formulated your training program. He can quickly tell if it's working or not and make the necessary adjustments to correct your training.
Even Shaquille O'Neil needs free throw trainers to help him improve his free throw shooting. It did not help him much, but that is the point. Everyone of us have individual needs, and we need personal training to help us target those needs. Personal trainers are great at doing that and any basketball player who is serious on improving his game will do well to consider hiring himself one.

Truth About Quickness - Basketball Quickness Drills
Quickness is the cousin of speed. Without getting into too much 'geeky' definitions, quickness is the ability to efficiently proceed from one point to another without wasted time or motion. So you can see that improving your quickness with get you in a better position to make positive plays in just about any sport or activity. Our guest article today is focusing on basketball, but the principles can apply to any sport.
-Nate Truth About Quickness - Basketball Quickness Drills by Will Theydon There are several Basketball Quickness Drills that can help you move about quickly on and off the court. I'm sure that every game would require you to be fast on your feet, especially with the different tasks you need while in the game. Tasks like cutting someone off for defense, receiving the ball and jumping for a shot. One of the most common basketball quickness drills is the rope jumping. All you need is a good rope wherein you can alternate jumping with both feet first, then switch to jumping with one foot then the other. Cone jumping may also do the trick for you. It's easy, you just need to jump with both your feet back and forth over a 6 inch cone for a given period of time. Leg bounds will also do for you as one of those effective basketball quickness drills. After lining up along a baseline, you stand with your arms tucked to your sides and your knees bent. Jump while you throw your arms up and your body extending so you can go far and higher. Make sure you land in the same position where you started and head for the base line to finish to exercise. You may also try doing line jumps while standing and your toes are pointing towards the line. Then you jump over the line quickly as you can while still on your toes, make sure that your heels do not touch the ground. You must remember not to touch the line while jumping close to it. These basketball quickness drills will help you increase your skills if you do them on a regular basis. You should be consistent in your practices to be able to get the results that you need. Set your goals and work hard to attain them. More Information: This author writes about Secrets To Jumping Higher at Learn How To Jump Higher Source: http://www.PopularArticles.com/article181103.html

Sports-Specific Strength and Conditioning Programs.
However you are getting the training, make sure you train the right way for your sport
-Nate
The most important attribute of any quality training program is injury prevention. Knowing how to start a program is the first step. These Sports Specific Programs provide injury prevention by first establishing a strength and conditioning base. The sets, repetitions, exercise prescription, and actual weight of the programs are based off an initial fitness level and specific strength to bodyweight ratio's. With simple feedback, the progression of the program will follow the body’s unique adaptation process to exercise. Whether the goal is performance enhancement or simply the enjoyment of participation in a favorite activity, these Sports Specific Programs can and will provide great results!

Iron Supplementation In Athletes - Current Recommendations
From our friends at the I.S.S.A
Like to sample Iron and other supplements to see if they are right for you?
Click here for more supplement information
-Nate
By I.S.S.A.
There is still debate in the literature on whether or not endurance athletes tend to have low iron stores. In this article, we propose that endurance athletes really are at risk of becoming iron deficient due to an imbalance between absorption of dietary iron and exercise- induced iron loss. The purpose of this article is to present a critical review of the literature on iron supplementation in sport. The effect of iron deficiency on performance, its diagnosis and suggestions for treatment are also discussed.
Studies of the nutritional status of athletes in various disciplines have shown that male, but not female, athletes clearly achieve the recommended dietary intake of iron (10 to 15 mg/day). This reflects the situation in the general population, with menstruating women beings the main risk group for mild iron deficiency, even in developed countries. Whereas the benefit of iron supplementation in athletes with iron deficiency anaemia is well established, this is apparently not true for non- anaemic athletes who have exhausted iron stores alone (prelatent iron deficiency); most of the studies in the literature show no significant changes due to supplementation in the physical capacity of athletes with prelatent iron deficiency. However, the treatment protocols used in some of these studies do not meet the general recommendations for the optimal clinical management of iron deficiency, that is, with respect to adequate daily dosage, mode of administration and treatment period. For future studies, we recommend a prolonged treatment period (greater than or equal to 3 months) with standardised conditions of administration (use of a pharmaceutical iron preparation with known high bioavailability and a dosage of ferrous (Fe++) iron 100 mg/day, taken on an empty stomach).
We believe that there are sufficient arguments to support controlled iron supplementation in all athletes with low serum ferritin levels. Firstly, the development of iron deficiency is prevented. Secondly, the nonspecific upregulation of intestinal metal ion absorption is reverted to normal, thus limiting the hyperabsorption of potentially toxic lead and cadmium even in individuals with mild iron deficiency.
