Meet the coaches!

GUY GADOWSKY has been the architect of Princeton University’s rise to the top of the ECAC Men's Hockey League.

During the 2007-08 season, the Tigers won a program-high 21 games and reached the NCAA Division I Tournament for just the second time in program history. Gadowsky was honored as the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the national award.

Gadowsky spent five seasons at Alaska-Fairbanks in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The Edmonton, Alberta, native also was the head coach and director of hockey operations for the Fresno Falcons of the Western Collegiate Hockey League, and coached in Roller Hockey International, serving as the head coach of the Oklahoma Coyotes in 1996 and the San Jose Rhinos from 1997 to 1999.

PATRICK BURKE, the principal of Vermont's South Burlington High School, is a USA Hockey- and American Sport Education Program-certified hockey coach and a USA Hockey ACE (Association Coaching Education) Director.

Burke has coached at nearly every level from mites to college and has served as the head  varsity coach at three New England high schools: St. Bernard (Conn.); Champlain Valley (Vt.), where he led his team to a state championship; and South Burlington (Vt).

He has coached U-18 all-star teams in Vermont and in the New England Yankee All-Star Festival, and now is coaching on the youth level with the Essex (Vt.) Sting and the Vermont Shamrocks. His focus has always been on player development, hard work and fun. He has been recognized for coaching excellence by the Positive Youth Sports Alliance and was Vermont's principal of the year in 2006.

As a player, Burke played AAA and junior hockey for the Ramapo (N.Y.) Saints and the New Jersey Rockets, as well as college hockey for Connecticut College.

NICOLE ULIASZ is the girls' varsity ice hockey coach at the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville. N.J. She is also assistant athletic director and sports information director at the prestigious prep school.

Uliasz began attending the University of Wisconsin in 2000 and playing for the Badgers' women's ice hockey team. In 2001, she left the university to join the United States National Ice Hockey Team. She played with the national team for a year and traveled on the 2002 Visa Salt Lake City Pre-Olympic Tour. She also played on the 2002 United States Under-22 National Team and re-joined the Badgers in 2002. She graduated in 2005.
Uliasz was a three-time ALL-WCHA Academic honoree and an All-Big Ten honoree.

DAVE SCOWBY has 12 years of youth hockey coaching experience. For the last five years, he's been on the coaching staff of the New Jersey Kings, and prior to that spent seven years coaching in the Atlantic Youth Hockey League (AYHL). He's also an instructor at the Princeton Sports Center in Monmouth Junction, N.J.
Captain of the 1994-95 Princeton University men's ice hockey team, Scowby has more than 28 years of combined coaching and playing experience. His coaching achievements include several AYHL championships and a prestigious International Silverstick Championship.

Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, where he played for the Regina Cougars (Midget AAA), his coaching philosophy emphasizes skill development, team play and the importance of developing young men of character on and off the ice.

TED ANNIS is Director of Hockey at Princeton Sports Center in Monmouth Junction, N.J. Originally from Belleville, Ontario, Annis played junior hockey for the Junior A Kingston Voyageurs of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League and then college hockey at Princeton University. His youth hockey coaching background includes seven years of AAA experience with the New Jersey Rockets (including the 2000-2001 Tier 1 National Champion Peewees).

As Director of Hockey at Princeton Sports Center, Annis is responsible for player development through the Intro to Hockey program, the Princeton Sports Center Hockey Academy and the CJTHL recreational league.

The Competitive Ice Hockey programs were developed to help with the specific strength and muscular endurance needs of a hockey player. Hockey players also need a program that will help guard them against injuries. In addition to the strength training exercises there are specific plyometric exercises that will help with groin and lateral hip strength. It would be ideal to choose the Ice Hockey Program that has Power Cleans and the other Olympic exercises, but many may be unfamiliar with these exercises. For this reason, they have been removed in the "no Power Cleans" program. Check out the exercise videos to learn about the power clean and power snatch exercises, if interested. Once ready for these explosive exercises just switch the program over!

Throughout the length of the Ice Hockey programs, the manipulation of the sets and repetitions for each exercise will be based on periodization concepts that involve changing the intensity and the volume of the workouts.

The starting point of the workout is based on an initial fitness level. With feedback, the actual progression of the program will follow the body's unique adaptation process to exercise. Fine tune the program to include all the exercises that feel the best! Click here to start training today!

Two of the top QMJHL defencemen eligible for the 2018 NHL draft are maritime born Jared McIsaac of Truro and Noah Dobson of Summerside. The two were teammates this past summer capturing gold medal at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament and are now back helping their respective QMJHL teams. Both are being watched closely and currently NHL Central ranks McIsaac as a projected 1st round pick and Dobson as a 2nd/3rd round pick. NHL Central Director Dan Marr after a trip to the maritimes says Dobson is trending up. Both potentially could be taken in the 1st round. Which will be taken first depends on the next 6 months of the CHL season. John Moore catches up with both players at the Mooseheads home game at Scotiabank Centre in September. You may be suprised by the the players reply when asked who will go first this summer.

4 Day Competitive Ice Hockey Progam - no Power Cleans

OLY - Hang Snatch View Video
Exercise Description:

Begin this lift by placing your hands in an overhand grip with palms facing your body. The width of your hands should be 16-18 inches wider than the total width of your shoulders. Lift the bar off the ground or from blocks to a standing position. Slowly lower the bar down until it is positioned slightly above your knee caps. This is the "Hang" position. Remember to keep your shoulders over the bar in the starting position. Keep your back flat and chest up as you elevate the bar until it reaches the upper part of your thighs. This first pull phase is controlled and is only for getting the bar into the proper position for the second pull phase. The second pull phase is very explosive and is initiated by extending your hips through the bar completely, shrugging your shoulders up, and pulling the bar as high as possible. Lead this pull phase with your elbows so the bar stays close to your body. The final phase is the catch phase. At the top of your pull, quickly drop under and catch the bar with your arms fully extended. Finish the lift by standing tall with the weight for 1 second. Repeat for the required number of repetitions.

OLY - Clean Pull View Video
Exercise Description:

Approach the bar and position your feet slightly inside shoulder width. Place your hands on the bar with a grip that is just outside the width of your hips. Keep your back flat and your shoulders over the bar in the bottom position. Lift the bar off the ground with your legs not your back, until the weight clears your knees. Don't yank the bar off the ground. This will destroy the proper back angle needed to lift safely. This is the first pull phase and it must be done correctly. Any problems here will be magnified and make the other phases of the lift impossible to perform. The second pull phase involves accelerating your hips forward and shrugging your shoulders when the bar reaches the middle to upper portion of your legs. Pull the bar as high as you can, you will not be able to pull it as high as a Clean High Pull as you should be using more weight. Keep the bar close to your body throughout the movement. This exercise is great for developing a powerful hip drive and shrug which will transfer to other olympic lifts and sport performance!

Ply - Alternate Leg Bounding (SR) View Video
Exercise Description:

The Speed Skater exercise will develop the muscles in the hip, groin, ankles and quadriceps. It will help to improve lateral quickness and agility. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees to lower your body 8-10 inches and lean forward until your shoulders are positioned above your knees. Remember, even though you are leaning over you should do so by bending at the waist while maintaining good posture in your upper back. Begin by lightly hopping sideways about 2 feet and landing on your right foot, then hop sideways back onto your left foot and repeat for the required repetitions. Each leg must perform all the repetitions of the set. So, if your workout calls for 8 repetitions each leg must jump 8 times for a total of 16 jumps! Land with your feet in a strong, full-foot position. Don't just land on your toes! You can increase the lateral distance of your hopping from 2 feet to 6 feet as you become more powerful. You can also perform this exercise in a stationary fashion or in a linear fashion by moving forward slightly with each lateral jump. Your legs will look like a speed skater powerfully pushing from side to side.

PuckHeads Get Serious! Hockey Strength and Conditioning Programs

Ice Hockey is one of the most fun sports to see in person than most as the amazing athletes doing amazing and occasionally violent things on skates!
What's most interesting to me is that a typical Hockey game will have an athlete take as many collisions with as much force as a typical high level American football game. The difference is that a Hockey season will have as many at 8 times the games which make these collisions exponentially more frequent.

Its with that in mind that we are going to make sure that Every Hockey player (who I sometimes affectionately call "Puckheads") in the world from the time they first learn how to put on their skates, are training the proper way for this amazing sport. And of course if a good trainer or strength coach is not feasible or affordable, any player can train online with me saving money and time. Check out a description of our online Hockey programs below. Click here fill out the fitness profile form to get started for free.
