PATRICK MALONE TO 'STAND UP' TO CANCER

‘TEAM MOONSHOT’ SET FOR FOURTH ANNUAL 24-HOUR SU2C FUNDRAISER ON FEBRUARY 10 & 11, 2018

Arlington, VA – Thursday, February 8, 2018 - Patrick "Pat" Malone, of Alexandria, Virginia, retired Air Force veteran, and ‘major league’ cancer survivor, will host his fourth annual fundraiser to benefit Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a nationally recognized program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to raise money for national and international cancer research to eliminate the disease, beginning at 4:26 pm, Saturday, February 10, and ending at 4:26 pm, Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Fire Works American Pizzeria & Bar (www.fireworkspizza.com/Arlington), in Arlington, Virginia.  

Malone’s ‘Team Moonshot’, is working to focus attention on raising money for national efforts to help medical researchers cure many cancers by 2020, and in the near future.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2014, Malone had successful surgery to remove a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (MPNST) (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24511012), at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in Bethesda, Maryland, whose operation was headed by Dr. Walter J. Fallace, a highly-skilled neurosurgeon who for seven consecutive hours led a team of surgeons and specialists through the delicate procedure. 

After months of radiation, rehabilitation and physical therapy in the spring and summer of 2014, Malone is currently cancer-free with the strong desire to both raise money for cancer research, and to additionally honor and highlight the dedicated work of his military and civilian medical team at the John P. Murtha Cancer Center (www.wrnmmc.capmed.mil/CancerCenter/SitePages/Home.aspx) at Walter Reed, and the Radiation Oncology Clinic at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (www.fbch.capmed.mil/healthcare/radiation_oncology.aspx).

Malone will 'stand up', once again, for twenty-four hours straight, non-stop, kicking off his fundraiser at exactly 4:26 pm, on Saturday, February 10, and finishing at 4:26 pm, on Sunday, February 11, 2018.

The Truth About Cancer Featuring: Cancer Survivor Story - Skip Stein - Prostate Cancer

Skip Stein’s cancer survivor story began on April 14, 2010, when he went to the doctor for a biopsy. Skip actually didn’t learn that he had prostate cancer until April 24th because his doctor forgot to call and tell him that the biopsy came back positive for prostate cancer. Shortly after he received the terrible news, Skip's doctor wanted to rush him into surgery, but they weren’t able to perform surgery at that time because Skip was overweight. Skip's doctor suggested that he have pellets placed directly into his prostate, along with radiation treatment. Being conscious of what radiation does, he asked his doctor, “doesn’t radiation cause cancer?” to which the doctor had no reply. They told him that if he did treatment he’d only live five years. If he didn’t do anything and do "watch and wait," his prognosis would drop to three years. Having seen his father pass away from his cancer treatment by going through the conventional methods, Skip decided that he would take things into his own hands and change his lifestyle. Searching for a prostate cancer cure, Skip and his wife started a strictly plant based diet eliminating meat, fish, dairy, and eggs. His wife became certified in plant-based nutrition, and even became a chef. Skip began beating cancer with a plant based diet and lifestyle changes. Along with the diet, Skip and his wife began exercising regularly. They also answer the question of, “can we starve cancer?” Apparently, you can. They noticed a dramatic change in their appearance with the plant based diet before and after. They both lost tons of weight and have kept it off and feel better than they have in 40 years. Skip’s prostate cancer survivor story is just another example of how you can beat prostate cancer being a vegan.

The Truth About Cancer-Cancer Survivor Story - Jim & Judy Hinners - Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma (Brain Cancer)

In 2015, while in the hospital for an unrelated operation, Jim Hinners was given the devastating news that he had Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma – an extremely rare form of brain cancer. In fact it was so rare that his doctors couldn't even tell Jim what stage the cancer was or very much about it. Upon researching it, Jim's children discovered that their father could have as little as 6 months to live. After receiving surgery and two chemotherapy treatments, Jim & Judy were off to Seattle to investigate another treatment option. While there a friend who was living in China contacted Jim and told him to watch The Truth About Cancer docuseries. By Episode 3, Jim and Judy decided to head home and start implementing everything they had learned. Even though Jim was warned by his doctors that Primary CNS Lymphoma usually comes back within one to two years, Jim & Judy are determined to do everything they can to keep Jim cancer-free.
