PATRICK MALONE TO 'STAND UP' TO CANCER

‘TEAM MOONSHOT’ SET FOR FOURTH ANNUAL 24-HOUR SU2C FUNDRAISER ON FEBRUARY 10 & 11, 2018

Arlington, VA – Thursday, February 8, 2018 - Patrick "Pat" Malone, of Alexandria, Virginia, retired Air Force veteran, and ‘major league’ cancer survivor, will host his fourth annual fundraiser to benefit Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a nationally recognized program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to raise money for national and international cancer research to eliminate the disease, beginning at 4:26 pm, Saturday, February 10, and ending at 4:26 pm, Sunday, February 11, 2018, at Fire Works American Pizzeria & Bar (www.fireworkspizza.com/Arlington), in Arlington, Virginia.  

Malone’s ‘Team Moonshot’, is working to focus attention on raising money for national efforts to help medical researchers cure many cancers by 2020, and in the near future.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2014, Malone had successful surgery to remove a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (MPNST) (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24511012), at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in Bethesda, Maryland, whose operation was headed by Dr. Walter J. Fallace, a highly-skilled neurosurgeon who for seven consecutive hours led a team of surgeons and specialists through the delicate procedure. 

After months of radiation, rehabilitation and physical therapy in the spring and summer of 2014, Malone is currently cancer-free with the strong desire to both raise money for cancer research, and to additionally honor and highlight the dedicated work of his military and civilian medical team at the John P. Murtha Cancer Center (www.wrnmmc.capmed.mil/CancerCenter/SitePages/Home.aspx) at Walter Reed, and the Radiation Oncology Clinic at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (www.fbch.capmed.mil/healthcare/radiation_oncology.aspx).

Malone will 'stand up', once again, for twenty-four hours straight, non-stop, kicking off his fundraiser at exactly 4:26 pm, on Saturday, February 10, and finishing at 4:26 pm, on Sunday, February 11, 2018.

Fairfax, VA - February 28, 2016 - John K. Wood, legendary well-loved owner of 29 Diner (www.29Diner.com) in Fairfax, Virginia, will begin a 29-hour 'stand up' to help raise much-needed funds for cancer research for 'Stand Up To Cancer' (SU2C).

John will be cooking and curing barbecue in his smoker, starting, today, Sunday, February 28, at 4:29 pm, and will 'stand' at the diner for 29 hours through, tomorrow, Monday, February 29, at 9:29 pm, to additionally help raise awareness and funds for theInova Children's Cancer Program of the Inova Fairfax Cancer Center at Inova Children's Hospital, located on the campus ofInova Fairfax Medical Center (http://www.inova.org/healthcare-services/cancer/locations/inova-fairfax-hospital/index.jsp).

There will be great music during the 29-hour 'stand-up', 'jitter bug' dance contests, 'drive-in' movies, and great hickory smoked barbecue, as well as a wide-variety of other tasty items on the menu and 29 Diner will match all donations up to $1,000.00.
