New Every Morning
The Lord’s faithfulness, mercy, and love are available—today, tomorrow, and forever.
Lamentations was written in rubble. Jerusalem had been destroyed, the temple lay in ruins, and the people were scattered, bereaved, and bewildered (Psalm 137:1). Yet somewhere in the middle of that grief, the writer paused to say something astonishing: “The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning” (Lam. 3:22-23).
If ever there was a moment when God’s goodness might have seemed to run out, this was it. But the writer was able to look at the wreckage and see, beneath it all, the unchanging faithfulness of the Lord.
