Today's Devotional: He Feeds The Hungry

Delight Yourself in Abundance

Only God can permanently fill the emptiness of the human heart.

From Intouch Ministries

June 20, 2023

Imagine you’re hungry, with only a few coins in your pocket. It’s enough to buy only some coarse brown bread and a bowl of watery soup. That’ll keep you from starving, but it’s far from satisfying. Now, imagine walking into a beautiful hall where a banquet’s been laid out—tables filled with savory meats, fresh vegetables, warm bread, and delicate desserts of all kinds. But rather than a price list, there’s a sign that reads “Free.” Which would you choose?

That’s the issue at the heart of today’s passage. “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?” our Father asks, when His abundance is free for the taking (v. 2). But that’s precisely what happens when we reject a relationship with God and pursue temporal things that can never fill us.

In the Pensées, Blaise Pascal discusses this overwhelming yearning and concludes that the “infinite abyss” in us “can be filled only by an infinite and immutable object—that is to say, only by God himself.” Thankfully, the true contentment that comes from being united with God is ours for the taking. All we need to do is say yes.

Today's Devotional - Your Road To Damascus?

The Privilege of Knowing Christ

Knowing Jesus intimately is the most rewarding pursuit in life.

Philippians 3:1-16

Have you ever written a résumé? It requires a good deal of skill and tact. After all, it’s the way you introduce yourself to a potential boss. You must feature your skills and accomplishments in a way that isn’t boastful. That’s quite a tall order!

The apostle Paul would have had an impressive résumé (if such a thing had existed in the first century). With regard to religious achievements, his were certainly impressive. He referred to himself as “a Hebrew of Hebrews,” “a Pharisee,” “a persecutor of the church” and “blameless” under the Law (Phil. 3:4-6). In other words, when it came to his standing in Jewish culture, Paul was a man almost without equal.

But all that changed on the road to Damascus.

After he met the Savior, Paul did a one-eighty regarding his accomplishments. “I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord,” he wrote to the church at Philippi. Every superlative became “mere rubbish” to him, compared to being found in Christ (v. 8). All those fancy titles and honors were cast aside without a moment’s regret. May we all say the same.

Fearless with Jason Whitlock: Matt Walsh & the Daily Wire EXPOSE Fox News' Push for Alphabet Mafia Agenda

BlazeTV: Pro-America

Tucker Carlson’s departure from Fox News may be the rock that takes down the cable news Goliath. The former go-to for conservatives has taken a massive ratings hit post-Tucker. Now, Matt Walsh and the Daily Wire have exposed the company for pushing the Alphabet Mafia’s dangerous agenda behind the scenes. Jason shares the same sentiment as most of America, it appears. “Tucker Carlson’s last day was my last day on Fox News. It was clear to me they had sold out. Tucker was their last hope.” Delano Squires and Bryson Gray join “Fearless” to discuss Fox News’ betrayal. The first lady of “Fearless,” Shemeka Michelle, joins Jason and Bryson to discuss the brand-new music track and video for Bryson’s “Reclaim the Rainbow.” "American Idol’s" Jimmy Levy joins Bryson and Shemeka in the song designed as a battle hymn for God’s people to take back the symbol of the rainbow from the “Pride” movement and return it to Christians. Finally, Steve Kim takes over the show to talk about Ja Morant's NBA suspension, Michael Jordan selling the Charlotte Hornets, and his thoughts on the Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen drama in the NFL.

Sunday Check-In With Dr. Stanley: What It Takes

In God's Word, fathers can find the wisdom they need for leading their families.

Titus 2:2

There are dozens of parenting manuals out there, each promising to make a man a better father. But in today’s passage—just 15 words in total—the apostle Paul provides more helpful guidance than a shelf full of books.

Titus 2:2 tells us that an older man tasked with leading others must be “temperate,” or free from negative influences that can cloud his judgment. He must also strive to be “dignified,” which involves being honorable and worthy of respect. Likewise, a good father must be self-controlled and live in what Strong’s Concordance refers to as “God-defined balance.” In other words, he must strive to remain even-keeled, calm, and peaceable, no matter what.

But all these positive traits aren’t worth much without the remaining characteristics Paul lists: An older man must also be “sound in faith, in love, [and] in perseverance.” A man isn’t meant to be all hard edges and uncompromising principles. He should be tender and kind as well. He must love others in the various ways Christ makes possible. (See 1 John 4:7-9.)

This advice may seem too difficult, but remember that all things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26). Every one of us needs to grow in Christlikeness. So where would you like to start?
