The Social Contract & Criminal Justice

By: Claire Williams

The ‘Social Contract’ was first introduced around the 17th and 18th centuries by a group of thinkers including Thomas Hobbes, John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau. The underlying idea is the basic assumption that an individual will agree to give up some of their freedom in return for their freedom to not be imposed upon by others. It often falls to the state in order to police the line between different individual’s freedoms.

Due to the ongoing malfunctions of the global economy we have seen a rise in the number of protest groups across the world. These protests have range from outright industrial strikes that pull individuals together to march against supposed wrongs, to the disparate Occupy movements that have been seen across the world, to the so called ‘Arab Spring’ where revolutions have occurred across the Middle East and North Africa.

In order to contain these protests, enforcement teams have been employed to confront supposed activists who have sought to cause damage to property and individuals. It is at this point where we have to ask at what point does a protest become a dangerous situation?

The argument over the strength of the supposed resistance by police officers has come to the fore with incidents in the U.K. where protestors are often combatted by policing methods which including ‘kettling’. This is where protestors are contained in a small area, often forcibly, and not allowed to leave. Secondly, the recent images of a police officer using pepper-spray on students at a peaceful protest at a U.S. university were described as, "chilling" by the chancellor of the University of California. It is incidents such as these that are driving the current debate over whether the ‘Social Contract ‘is breaking down. Questions are being asked and society itself is now asking whether a new idea is needed to consider how to form a political community in the face of ongoing economical, political, and societal fractures.

There are a number of online schools which provide courses where students can study such activities. Indeed, by studying an online Criminal Justice degree, individuals will learn about law enforcement and, for example, how the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights apply to criminal law in that country.

There is a great range of online degrees catering for students of Criminal Justice from a range of online schools. Whether you are interested in studying a Bachelor of Criminal Justice or a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice the range of topics available enable the student to learn more about the ‘Social Contract’ within a framework that covers a variety of topics.

The average cost of a Criminal Justice degree can range from $12,000 a year to anything up to $25,000. If considering a career in Criminal Justice, it would be worth looking in to online schools which can generally provide online Criminal Justice degrees for a fraction of the cost of actually attending face-to-face lessons at another university.

AtomicDarts.com Present: Van Gerwen v Cross [SF] 2018 World Championship Darts and Dart Board Games

The most common dart board design is that of a clock which is circular in shape, has a circle inscribed on it with twenty segments with the numbers one to twenty mentioned on them in a random fashion which actually has an underlying pattern. The bull’s eye is the small black circle in the centre.

We at Atomic Darts want to Thank You for visiting our online store. We are a family owned and operated company and look forward to serving you in your Darting and gaming needs. The two most common games are 501 and 301.In 501 a player starts with 501 points and has to reduce it to zero. Each player has to throw three darts and whatever he scores is deducted from the initial 501 points. The bull’s eye fetches 50 points, the outer rings 25 each etc. The player who first achieves the zero point is the winner. However the game can end only with a throw that lands in the double or bulls eye.301 is also played in the same way except that it starts with 301 points instead of 501.Another popular dart game is "Around the Clock". Here, each player throws 3 darts and has to throw a dart in every segment beginning right from 1 to 20 and has to finish with the 25 and bull’s-eye. Players must start with 1 and cannot move to the next number till such time a dart has been thrown at the next target .The first player who hits all the targets and finally reaches the bull’s-eye wins the game.

Another common game is the cricket where two players toss a coin to see who would bat and who would be bowling. The batting player starts and tries at all turns scoring as many points as possible. The standard 501 scoring system is used. When the batting player scores more than 40 points in one go, the number of points more than 40 is added to the player's score. Less than 40 the batting player scores nothing. The opposing player is considered to be the bowler and this player only aims the bull’s-eye. The bowler gets 2 wickets if he hits the bull’s-eye and 1 wicket for the 25 scorer ring. Players take turns until the bowling player throws a dart that scores the 10th wicket. After that the roles are interchanged and the other player has an innings of batting to do. This game ends when both players have played two innings each and the player with the higher score wins the match.

A review of the police employment steps

By: Leopoldo Magnotta

In order to become a police officer, it requires a pretty exceptional individual.. It really is very demanding. And it's not straightforward.

So in the hiring process, agencies subject applicants through a number of requirements in order to make sure those agencies employ a person who is expected to do a exceptional job, and keep the agency out of trouble.

What is involved in this process?

The written application initiates the hiring process. A single job opening could result in many of applications. The department has to screen these applications seeing as it simply can't interview all applicants. A candidate is likely to be immediately rejected if they have any major prior acts like a suspended drivers license or previous serious criminal conviction. Though each agency does examine things a bit in a different way. Additionally, the agency might look at things like education, consistency in prior employment, and additional elements.

A written test has to be passed by the applicant. Frequently it is not just sufficient to pass, but to score high considering the significant quantity of people applying. These examinations focus on competencies like arithmetic, reading skills, grammar, and spelling. A written essay is typically expected.

The physical agility exam is also pretty significant. Candidates must be in good enough physical condition to carry out the position of a law enforcement officer. These exams include a number of obstacles designed to duplicate what an law enforcement officer could confront on patrol.

The most important part of the hiring process is almost certainly the oral board. Tough questions will are likely to be inquired of the candidate by a few members within the agency. Top applicants are invited to go further in the hiring process after a ranking based upon results of the oral interview.

Each detail of the applicant's life is looked into in the course of the background check. Family, friends, co-workers, and supervisors are met with. Criminal reports are checked, as are financial records like a credit report. A confession of any prior problem is absolutely expected from the applicant. Any deceitfulness is expected to lead to immediate disqualification.

If a candidate makes it through the above, they'll usually have one more job interview with the head of the agency (Chief, Sheriff, etc.) or another top ranking member within the command staff. This meeting can help conclude if the applicant will represent the agency well, and if they are the best individual for the position.

A conditional job offer is often presented at this point. This allows the agency to subject the candidate to a pre employment medical examination and psych examination. The hiring process is normally concluded following these final steps.

At the time a job vacancy permits, a proper employment offer is likely to come to a applicant who has made it through all of the previous steps.

Is it over then? Obviously not. Several months of taxing work is in the future for the applicant at the police academy.

After graduation, it is time for the Field Training program where the new cop works with several veteran training officers. A decent number of new police officers do not pass this part, so it's not to be treated without respect.

The process is essentially finished once the cop finishes a probation period of 12 to 18 months, and has successfully finished the FTO program.

They're a law enforcement professional, and will enjoy the benefits, and need to deal with the duties, that come with the position.
