The most common dart board design is that of a clock which is circular
in shape, has a circle inscribed on it with twenty segments with the
numbers one to twenty mentioned on them in a random fashion which
actually has an underlying pattern. The bull’s eye is the small black
circle in the centre.

The two most common games are 501 and
301.In 501 a player starts with 501 points and has to reduce it to zero.
Each player has to throw three darts and whatever he scores is deducted
from the initial 501 points. The bull’s eye fetches 50 points, the
outer rings 25 each etc. The player who first achieves the zero point is
the winner. However the game can end only with a throw that lands in
the double or bulls eye.301 is also played in the same way except that
it starts with 301 points instead of 501.Another popular dart game is
"Around the Clock". Here, each player throws 3 darts and has to throw a
dart in every segment beginning right from 1 to 20 and has to finish
with the 25 and bull’s-eye. Players must start with 1 and cannot move
to the next number till such time a dart has been thrown at the next
target .The first player who hits all the targets and finally reaches
the bull’s-eye wins the game. Another common game is the cricket
where two players toss a coin to see who would bat and who would be
bowling. The batting player starts and tries at all turns scoring as
many points as possible. The standard 501 scoring system is used. When
the batting player scores more than 40 points in one go, the number of
points more than 40 is added to the player's score. Less than 40 the
batting player scores nothing. The opposing player is considered to be
the bowler and this player only aims the bull’s-eye. The bowler gets 2
wickets if he hits the bull’s-eye and 1 wicket for the 25 scorer ring.
Players take turns until the bowling player throws a dart that scores
the 10th wicket. After that the roles are interchanged and the other
player has an innings of batting to do. This game ends when both players
have played two innings each and the player with the higher score wins
the match. Dramatic Final Sets

By: James Keyes
The Grip 1. Be direct and
aim. The primary purpose of your grip is to be able be to retain the end
of the dart facing or pointing at each stage of throwing. 2. Be
relaxed and solid. Your grip needs to be firm and stable shouldn’t put
tension on the muscles of your fingers. Your grip is over excessive if
your fingers become white as a result of the force being exerted. Also,
if you are having difficulty releasing the dart your grip is too tight.
Remember that the game of darts isn’t a game of force, but instead a
game of touch. 3. Use a minimum of 3 fingers. The more fingers
you use the better the control and regulation you will have when you
gather acceleration or speed. However, this will make it more difficult
to release the darts because you have more fingers that have to be
coordinated. 4. The shape of the barrel. Not all types of grips
will be functional or suitable on various barrel types. The longer the
barrel the more fingers you will have to use to grip the darts.
Conversely, the shorter the barrel the lees fingers will be required to
grip the darts. You must not only determine the correct grip for you,
but also you will have to determine the size of the barrel that’s right
for you. 5. Don’t us a fist. You have to spread your fingers that
you aren’t using for your grip of the darts away from those that are.
If you are using your 4 fingers when you are gripping the darts the
smallest finger will join the other 4 which will make a fist. This will
cause muscle strain on the other 4 fingers and the result will be a fist
rather than to an open hand which is required for an effective release. The Stance When
a player is aiming, they target the line, set the dart and the eye.
When the player throws the darts they need to try to place the 3 control
routine of his arm in a plane of 2 dimensions. The Throw Be
relaxed and solid.
The weight should primarily rest on the foot that
is forward while your foot that is behind will adequately hold your
weight in order to ensure that your posture is balanced. Remember that
regardless of which distribution of weight you use, your posture must be
unshakable and firm. The foot that is forward must remain on the floor
constantly. Also, if you constantly are bending forward, you will strain
your back. Don’t lift your balance leg when you are throwing darts.
Always keep your balance foot on the floor. Keep your body still with
your posture while you are throwing darts. Click here for more information about Darts and dart boards

Dart games are usually played between two players or two teams.
Each team can consist of two or more people. Although there have are
different variations of the game which allow for more than two sides,
these have not gained much popularity. Generally, each
player is allowed nine throws as a warmup before the beginning of a
game. After the warm up, one person from each team throws a dart. This
is to determine which team or person is eligible to take the first turn.
The team that got the dart closest to the bull’s eye takes the first
turn. Each player, in his turn, is allowed to throw three
darts. Two sets of darts are thrown — one by each team — before the
darts are retrieved. If the thrower’s foot crosses over the line or if
the person happens to trip over the oche (the throwing line, which a
dart player stands behind to throw the darts) while releasing the dart,
the throw does not count for any points and there may not be a re-throw. After
a player’s final throw, the dart must stay on the board for a minimum
of five seconds for it to be counted. Also, a throw scores no points if
the dart sticks into another dart or falls off the board. In
the basic method for play and scoring, the throws that are successful
score in the following manner: (1) in the wedge — the amount posted on
the outer ring; (2) the double ring (the outer, narrow ring) — twice the
number hit; (3) the triple ring (the inner, narrow ring) — three times
the number hit; (4) bull’s eye (outer bull) — twenty-five points; and
(5) double bull’s eye (inner bull) — fifty points. Of the
games played by dart players around the world, the two most popular ones
are “301” and “Cricket.” Of these, 301 is the easier, as, in this, each
side begins the game with 301 points and throws in an effort to make
their score zero. Cricket, a more complex game that requires more
throwing skill and strategy, is played using mainly the numbers 15
through 20 and the bull’s eyes. Each game is considered one leg, and when two out of three games are won, the match is considered won.

Final - Dobromyslova v de Graaf
Who invented the dart board? I guess we will never know, it was
probably some archer in the middle ages who converted the bottom of a
barrel or tree slice into the first dart board and threw his arrows at
it. Dart boards were made of wood for many years mostly from elm and had
to be soaked in water overnight to stop the board from splitting.
However we do know who invented the first Bristle board, that was Nodor
in the 1930's, they were approached by an inventor who had an idea to
make a dart board from rope! It must have sounded crazy at the time, but
it worked. They took some rope strands all the same length and
compressed them tightly together and hey presto the first "Bristle"
board was born. This was a huge advance on the traditional wooden board.
For a start no more soaking and the board was self healing and long
lived. It was an instant success.Nodor got a patent for the
design and so were the only manufacturer for 25 years or so for the life
of the patent. After the patent expired other manufacturers entered the
arena most notably Winmau . And you thought Nodor was a funny name.
Apparently the name Winmau was made up from the first three letters of
the two names of the wife of the company director "Winifred Maud" hence
Winmau. Winmau and Nodor fought for supremacy in the dart board
market for many years until Nodor eventually took over the Winmau brand.
During this time Winmau came up with their famous Blade board with
ultra thin wire separators and Nodor came up with the first staple free
bulls eye dart board. The bristle boards were used in all the big
tournaments that started in the 70's and are still used today in the
prestigious tournaments like the Las Vegas classic and the British
Lakeside tournament. Then came Electronics, the electronic dart
board came on the scene and changed the game overnight. The odd thing
about electronic boards is they are covered in hundreds of small holes
for the special soft tip darts to enter. At first glance you think how
can the dart get into those holes so exactly? The holes are centered at
the base of a dimple like the dimples of a golf ball, guiding the soft
tip darts to the holes in the board. And it works very well with nowhere
near the amount of bounce outs you might expect. There are sensors
beneath the holes which trigger the electronics to record the score and
deducts or adds the score to the previous one automatically, depending
on the game. This was a great boon to darters as they no longer had to
keep score and the boards could be networked to collect all the scores
from the boards on a computer, great for tournaments. The
difference with the electronic dart board are that you have to use soft
tip darts, and the tips are made of plastic so as not to damage the
board. (Never use normal steel tip darts on an electronic board) Also
the maximum weight of dart allowed on most electronic dart boards is 20
grams. You can now have the best of both the steel tip and soft
tip game now with the introduction of the new BristleTech boards which
have bristle type fibres that can take the steel tips as well as the
soft tipped darts and still work with the electronics. The Bristletech
technology is set to dominate the dart board market in the future. So
there you have it, we have come a long way from the elm wooden dart
boards and I'm sure there will be even more developments to come,
especially with the combination Bristle type boards and electronics.
Electronic darts is very popular on both sides of the Atlantic now and
maybe even the professional game will embrace it before long.

Board games provide the perfect family entertainment with most having
an age range that suits the diverse element in a family gathering. Many
a times you will be fascinated how they occupy the major part of a
family holidays or picnic. Certain games will remain special to us for
keeps due to family preference or childhood memories. Although they may
not be most peoples first choice for entertainment these days, with
computers, Ipods and other modern luxuries, the fact is on the boring
rainy nights these board games are always pulled out from the closet and
enjoyed just as much when they first came out many decades ago. These
are reasons why these special games will always hold a special position
in every person's life. It is not always the child who can relate to the
board games' fascination. It actually stretches quite beyond that.
Titles such a Pictionary, Monopoly, Chinese Checker, Carrom, Snakes and
Ladders, Scrabble and other word games are household names and remain
favorites to many. Even down the ages the nature of traditional games
has not changed in a while. Though board game boxes change in design,
lamination and upgrading in technological matters, they always hold that
special space of significance that their traditional values hold for
themselves. They have always been a hit at parties and even young adults
or elders come to join in the fun and interaction. Wrapped attention is
always found when a particularly entertaining game is in play. Card
games are also popular game forms that have come to be a massive hit
through all age brackets. The different forms and shapes that come
through the numerous types of card games keep fascinating board game
lovers. Even if we outgrow one kind we will always find something
contemporary or revamped out of the old to grab our attention. If you
wish to relive those great childhood memories, or perhaps a new type of
board game has caught your interested, the easiest and most often
cheapest way is to buy them online.

Darts is a fun social sport, the history of which can be traced back to the days of the longbow in medieval England. The enduring popularity of the sport can be attributed to its being a game that combines skill, talent, and a bit of luck. The upper classes of the times soon put their own stamp on the game. Henry VIII was well known for his immense love of the game, and was presented with a beautifully ornate set by Anne Boleyn.
The sport began as part of training in the martial art of archery. Historians infer, because it is not known for certain, that teachers of archery shortened some arrows and asked their students to throw them at the bottom of an empty wine barrel. The fact that the bottom of an empty wine barrel was used is a clue to how the game evolved into a pastime. It is believed that the soldiers took their shortened arrows on their visit to the local drinking establishment to exhibit their skill, while having fun there. Gradually, some inventive dart thrower introduced a cross section of a moderate-sized tree. The “board” had rings, and upon drying, further segmentation was provided by the cracks. Thus, from the cracked and dried cross section of a tree evolved the modern-day dart board.
The history of darts in the United States can be traced to the Pilgrims. These tough colonizers are believed to have played the game on board the Mayflower as it made its ocean crossing. Later, the game was played fervently in the United States as a favorite pastime.
It was around 1900 that the rules for darts became what they are today. The size of the board, distance for throwing, and even the size of the darts were standardized. Today, around the world, organized teams play for trophies and professional leagues. The prominent associations worldwide for dart games are World Darts Federation (WDF), British Darts Organization and Darts Federation of Australia.
A set of 18-gram brass darts costs around $10, whereas a set of tungsten darts is $140. Prices vary depending on the material the dart is made of, as well as any extras like movable points or special paint jobs. Prices differ from catalog to catalog as well.
A brief description of darts equipment ,what materials they are made of, and what the advantages and disadvantages of the darts types and equipment.
The most common dart these days is the 80% tungsten dart. This is a great advance on the brass darts and the wooden darts that came before that. The main reason that darts are made of tungsten is that tungsten is a very heavy material and darts can be made much thinner than before by using it (perhaps we'll use platinum next, boy they would be expensive) What this means is that the darts can fit together much more closely in the dart board, giving rise to the greater possibility of higher scores. (which is what we all want , Right! )
Made from the ore wolframite tungsten has the highest melting point of any element on earth at 3000 degrees C and is incredibly hard. The reason you don't get 100% tungsten darts is because pure tungsten is a very brittle metal and is commonly mixed with nickel to make the dart less brittle and easier to manufacture. The highest percentage achieved so far is 90% tungsten darts, which are very expensive. It is not really worth paying the extra for 95% tungsten darts, if the pros are winning tournaments with 80% darts thats proof enough.
When it comes to the grip on the barrel of the dart there are many types to choose from diamond pattern knurled barrel to plain and now the new edge grip. Just get a design you are comfortable with, try out your mates darts to see what suits you.
The tip of the dart can be a fixed steel point, in which case it can only be used on bristle boards or the new Bristletech dart boards from Halex, or it can be a soft tip which is a plastic screw in tip that can be replaced. It is now common for darts to be convertible, with 2BA threads on either end of the barrel, which means you have the best of both worlds, both soft and steel tip options. Just bear in mind that the largest weight allowed in the electronic game is 20 grams. Thus if you shoot at both bristle and electronic boards, don't go heavier than 20 grams for your barrel.
Next comes the shaft to hold the flights, it should be light to keep the weight of the dart forward and are made from plastic, aluminium, steel wire or even titanium! The only thing to worry about with the shafts is that they are straight and undamaged so the flights are held in place properly. The newest shaft is a spinning shaft, which doesn't spin in flight like you might think, it simply moves the flight out of the way if another dart hits the flight in play. This seems a great idea to me, it helps to protect the flight as well.
That just leaves the flights, which come in loads of amazing designs and materials. The shapes include the classic "kite" design, which are relatively large to the pear drop and all stages in between. Ensure you use the same style of flight on all 3 darts and keep them spread so that there is a 90 degree angle between the four flight pieces to aid in consistency of your throw. Also use flight protectors, not only do they protect your flight; they will keep the flight at the optimum shape as a bonus.
So to sum up, get yourself some tungsten darts, the average weight is 18 – 20 grams. If you want to go heavier, remember the heaviest weight allowed on most electronic dart boards is 20 grams. (You can have up to 50-gram darts on Bristle boards) Nylon shafts are OK to use, spinner shafts are a good idea as well and use the kite style flight if a beginner and always use flight protectors. If you have steel tip darts keep the point sharp for easy entry into the dart board. A simple strip of grinding paper will do. For soft tip darts take along plenty of spares and your dart tool.
