Proctor and Williams Lead Bowie State Bulldogs to 55-52 Win at Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. – Junior Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.) and freshman Kyaja Williams (Baltimore, Md.) scored 15 and 10 points respectively to lead Bowie State to a 55-50 non-conference road win at Wilmington (Del.) University on Wednesday night. The victory improves the Bulldogs record to 5-2 while the Wildcats drop to 2-5 overall.

The Wildcats held an 18-13 advantage after one quarter of play, but found themselves down 33-26 at the halftime break to the Bulldogs. Bowie State’s lead grew to a game-high 12 points (44-32) by the 3:34 mark following a jumper by Williams and the Bulldogs closed the third quarter with a nine point advantage at 46-37.

Wilmington made a run in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 52-50 with 1:17 remaining in the contest.However, a pair of free throws by Proctor and one free throw by junior Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.) accounted for the final margin of 55-52. Colston along with junior Pere Alexander (Baltimore, Md.) tallied nine points each in the win. Alexander was the games’ leading rebounder with a career-best 11.

Bowie State seniors Denver Clyde (Glen Burnie, Md.) and Ashley Jennings (Newark, N.J.) contributed five and four points respectively and junior Lisa Jing (Laurel, Md.) added three points to round out the Bulldogs scorers.

In terms of team stats, the Bulldogs held advantages on the glass (47-45), points in the paint (32-20), points off turnovers (21-16) and bench points (15-6). Bowie State closed out the night with a 36.1 field goal shooting percentage (22-of-61) and 52.9 percent from the charity stripe (9-of-17).

The Wildcats had a tough time making shots, hitting 19-of-64 from the field (29.7 percent), which included 2-of12 behind the arc (16.7 percent) and 10-of-17 at the free throw line (58.7 percent.

Nyree Grant recorded a double-double for Wilmington, leading the team with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two assists and two blocks. LaShyra Williams and Macy Robinson added 12 and 11 points respectively to the Wildcats half of the stat sheet.

The Lady Bulldogs’ next contest will also be on the road, this time making a trip to Alderson Broaddus University on Saturday (December 3rd) with tip time set for 2 p.m.
