BOWIE STATE TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES AT CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT HOLIDAY OPEN


SOPHOMORE KENDALL REYNOLDS SETS THE STANDARD FOR BOWIE STATE AT HOLIDAY OPEN


(NEWPORT NEWS, Va. December 8, 2012) For the second meet in a row, sophomore Kendall Reynolds led the women’s Indoor Track and Field team, this time at the Christopher Newport Holiday Open.

Reynolds finished in the top five in two events, placing second overall in the Triple Jump (11.02m) and fourth overall in the Long Jump (5.48m). Two other Lady Bulldogs’ placed in the top five as freshman Faith Sykes finished fifth in the 400 Meter Dash, clocking in at 59.58 and fellow sophomore Ayanna Tweedy came away with a seventh place finish in the women’s Shot Put (11.11m).

Junior Brelyn Finley competed in the Shot Put as well, finishing 11th with a throw of 10.68m. Other top 20 finishers for Bowie State include sophomore Kayla Watson in the Long Jump (12th – 5.04m) and freshman Carissa Smith with a 15th place finish in the 60 Meter Hurdles.

Bowie State will break for the holiday before returning to competition January 5 at George Mason University.


THOMAS, WILLIAMS AND CHICK TOP THREE AT CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT HOLIDAY OPEN


(NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - December 8, 2012) The trio of sophomores Christopher Thomas, Ndjami Chick and junior Bryan Williams were Bowie State’s top three finishers at the Christopher Newport University Holiday Open at the Freeman Center.

There were no team scores in this meet, but Thomas was the top Bulldogs competitor with a second place finish in the men’s Triple Jump, going over the bar at 14.36m. Thomas competed in the Long Jump and high Jump as well, placing ninth and 10th respectively.  Williams competed in the Triple Jump, finishing fifth with a jump of 13.89m.

Chick finished in the top 10 in two events, placing sixth in the 3000 Meter Run (9:25.46) and ninth overall in the 5000 Meter Run (16:37.61).

Sophomore Sonny Hicks made his mark at the Holiday Open, returning to campus in eighth place in the 800 Meter Run. Senior Dana Smothers and sophomore Jalame Gomez ran in the 400 Meter Dash, finishing with times of 51.14 and 51.67 respectively.
