The Rock Almighty Devotional, Praise, and Worship with Skillet

JANUARY 30 from cdm

“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us” (Hebrews 9:12).
Jesus’ sacrifice for sin on our behalf only needed to be done once for all time. Therefore, we can give thanks for what He did; there’s no need to continually beg for forgiveness every time we make a mistake.

Jesse Duplantis - Waste Not and You'll Want Not: Your Riches Are in Your Fragments

Jesse Duplantis - Waste Not and You'll Want Not: Your Riches Are in Your Fragments [video below] Jesse Duplantis is an evangelist, speaker, and author. HIs best-selling books include Wanting a God You Can Talk To, Breaking the Power of Natural Law and The Everyday Visionary. His popular television program, Jesse Duplantis Ministries, airs weekly on TBN.

We live in an imperfect world. Most of us have become accustomed to lack and insufficiency at every level, and simply accepting it as the norm has become the standard way of thinking. This mindset has even extended to our physical and mental health; we tolerate sickness and disease as if it’s a part of life. However, illness of any kind is against God’s will for us.
When we realize that God wants us healthy, we’ll refuse to tolerate sickness of any kind. “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 1:2). What He wants for us is wholeness and soundness, with nothing missing and nothing broken in our lives. Prosperity in our bodies is good health; prosperity in our emotions is a sound mind. God wants this for us not just in small amounts, but in great abundance.
Jesus demonstrated this over and over again during His ministry when He healed people wherever He went. God’s definition of life far exceeds our expectations. He loves us, and wants us to be able to have joyful, abundant lives free of any health issues. “…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). When we have faith in this, He will bless us with abundant health on all levels to the point where the blessings continually overflow.
Jesus actually went to the cross to defeat sickness. “This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, ‘He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases’” (Matthew 8:17, NLT). This type of curse has been permanently taken from us. Despite what we may hear from the doctor or what the medical reports might say, what Jesus did for us carries much more authority. “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:9). Jesus’ name is above every other name—including sickness.
Illness has a way of not only sapping our physical strength, but also weighing down our hearts with depressing, discouraging thoughts. The cure for this is found in the Word of God. “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad” (Proverbs 12:25, NKJV). The “good word” of what God says to us lightens our hearts and gives us back our joy.
No matter how bleak the situation may look, God already made healing available to us two thousand years ago. He has done His part; we must now do our part and receive it by faith. We demonstrate this faith by exercising biblically-based common sense, which we get through constantly studying the Scriptures and putting into practice what we learn. The more we understand about God’s Word, the more our spirits are lifted. “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones” (Proverbs 17:22).
There’s a definite link between our emotions and our physical bodies, and we can see the results of broken spirits all around us. When we accept what Jesus did and make Him our Lord and Savior, we allow Him to begin putting our broken pieces back together again. The Great Physician has provided physical and emotional healing. It’s up to us to agree with Him and accept it for ourselves.

NBA Strength and Conditioning: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Michael Irr
I'm often asked about my experiences in the NBA and what it's like being a strength coach in the league. Well, here's my best shot at giving you the good, the bad, and the ugly of being an NBA strength coach.

Training

The Good: In the NBA, you see just about everything. I've worked with a couple seven footers, as well as a few guys who would barely scratch six feet in shoes. I've coached players who would sleep in the weight room and those who avoided it like the plague. I've seen the crazy strong, the surprisingly weak, and everything in between. I've worked with 19-year old rookies and 12-year veterans on the edge of retirement.
The diversity of each season was always fun to me. I loved solving the puzzle of each player and trying to figure out how to make my athletes feel and perform better. Managing personalities and motivating them to take care of themselves is challenging, but rewarding.
The Bad: Every off-season our guys would go off to wherever NBA players go in the off-season. My experience is that if you're a big market team (like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, or Miami), more of your players will remain in the area during the off-season. Small market teams are not always so lucky. Either way, some of your players may be in the hands of private trainers. Some are great. Some are not so great...........Join StrengthCoach.com to access full articles, videos, forums with thousands of Coaches from around the world and more!

Basketball Advice from a Sprint Coach- Part 1

Tony Holler - November 14, 2017
This article first appeared on The Track Football Consortium
I'm known as a sprint coach but I spent the first half of my life focused on basketball. My father, Don Holler, coached 47 years at six high schools and one college (Aurora University). Dad, pictured above at Kiel Auditorium (Decatur vs. East St. Louis) almost 65 years ago, was a head coach in his first year out of college. My childhood was spent in school buses, locker rooms, and gymnasiums. Match-up zones and motion offense were discussed at the dinner table.
At age 23 I became the head basketball coach at the worst 2A school in Illinois (only two divisions in Illinois back in 1983). Harrisburg High School played in a conference with four schools twice their size. At six of the eight schools, the basketball coach was also the Athletic Director, meaning they hired the officials and handed them their checks, sometimes after the game. Four of those athletic directors were Hall of Fame basketball coaches (Rich Herrin, Lee Emory, Bob Bogle, and David Lee). In 1983, I inherited a 35 game losing streak and a near-impossible challenge.

My first five years were tough, showing progress but losing 92 games. Going into the 1987-88 season, Harrisburg had accomplished only one winning season in the previous 21 years, averaging 18 losses per season.
The 1987-88 season started well, winning eight of our first ten games with two close losses to state-ranked teams (Marion and Carbondale). We won the 16-team Eldorado Holiday Tournament, never trailing in any of our four games. Despite playing with a 6'1” center, we ran disciplined offense and destroyed teams that played us man-to-man. When teams went zone, we bombed threes. In the second half of the season, we went into a slump. Teams got tired of getting back-doored and back-picked for lay-ups and decided to make us win from the perimeter. My best two shooters picked the wrong time to go into prodigious slump. My team went on a miserable losing streak. We eventually got back on track but the damage had been done. We finished the year 13-12........... Strength Coach- Is Fitness Your Job or Your Business?

Alwyn and Rachel Cosgrove -

1. If you don't set your alarm tomorrow morning and get up to meet your clients do you still have an income?
2. Are you on the floor coaching clients less than 20 hours a week?
3. Can you take a vacation or go away for professional development and still generate revenue while you're gone?
If you answered no to all of the above questions you don't have a business, you have a job! Maybe you're making a pretty good living as a "one man show" helping a lot of people while you work around the clock but this can be a recipe for burnout. We call the above stage of business being in the "grind" which is ok temporarily but not a long term sustainable business model.
Looking ahead how can you turn this "job" into a business that gives you freedom to do what you want when you want? Here are a few steps.
1. Leverage your time. You only have so many hours in a day. Starting to look for ways to leverage those hours to getting more done is a huge step. One way to leverage those hours is to start to put systems in place.
2. Systems - Putting systems in place will set you up to build your team. Everything in your business can be systemized so you could hand it off to another team member so you don't always have to be the one doing it. Start with creating a checklist of how you run a training session or a template of how you write a training program. These two systems will make it so much easier to have a team member take over training sessions when you're not there.
3. Build your team! Start with an office manager/admin and then hire 2-3 coaches as you grow. Join StrengthCoach.com to read the full story.......

US Terrorist Attacks Fast Facts

By: Dravid Richard

1978-1995 - Three people die and 23 others are wounded after a string of mail bombings carried out by Ted Kaczynski. "The Unabomber," as he is also known, is serving eight life sentences for murder. He was not charged with terrorism, but the string of bombings is considered to be a terror case.

February 26, 1993 - A bomb explodes on the second subterranean level of Vista Hotel's public parking garage, below the 2 World Trade Center building in New York. Six people are killed, and more than 1,000 people are treated for injuries. Six suspects are convicted of participating in the bombing. The seventh suspect, Abdul Rahman Yasin, is still at large.

April 19, 1995 - A bomb rips through the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, killing 168 people and injuring almost 700. Timothy McVeigh is convicted on federal murder charges in 1997, and he is executed in 2001.

July 27, 1996 - A bomb explodes in Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta during the middle of a concert during the Summer Olympics. One person is killed, another dies from a heart attack and 111 others are injured. Bombing suspect Eric Robert Rudolph is arrested in North Carolina in 2003, after being indicted in 2000 for the Atlanta bombing and for other bombings, including one at an abortion clinic where one person died. Rudolph is serving four consecutive sentences of life in prison plus 120 years for the attacks.

September 11, 2001 - Nineteen al Qaeda members hijack four US passenger airliners. Two are flown into the Twin Towers in New York, one crashes into the Pentagon and another crashes into the Pennsylvania countryside after passengers attempt to wrest control of the aircraft to prevent an attack on the US Capitol. At the World Trade Center site 2,753 people are killed; 184 at the Pentagon; and 40 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. A total of 2,977 people are killed.

April 15, 2013 - Twin bomb blasts explode near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three and wounding at least 264. One suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, is killed in an encounter with police. His brother, suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, is captured and charged with one count of using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death and one count of malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death. He is given the death penalty on June 25, 2015.

July 16, 2015 - Mohammad Abdulazeez opens fire on a military recruiting center and a Navy reserve facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee, killing four US Marines and a Navy sailor. FBI Director James Comey later says Abdulazeez's actions were "motivated by foreign terrorist organization propaganda," adding that it's difficult to determine which terrorist group may have inspired him.

December 2, 2015 - Married couple Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik open fire on a holiday party taking place at Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, killing 14 people. Investigators believe the couple was self-radicalized.

June 12, 2016 - Omar Mateen, an American-born man who'd pledged allegiance to ISIS, kills 49 people and wounds others in a shooting spree at a gay nightclub in Orlando, the second-deadliest mass shooting in recent US history and the nation's worst terror attack since 9/11.

August 12, 2017 - One person is killed and 19 are injured when a speeding car slams into a throng of counterprotesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, where a "Unite the Right" rally of white nationalists and other far right organizations was coordinated to protest the city's decision to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. James Alex Fields Jr., suspected of driving the deadly vehicle, is later indicted on 30 counts, including a hate crime resulting in death and bodily injury, and racially motivated violent interference with "federally protected activity" of using public streets. On September 14, 2017, President Donald Trump

Short and Sweet

Adapted from the resource Love Out Loud Devotional - by Joyce Meyercebook
Sometimes people think they have to spend a long time praying in order to demonstrate their love for God. But prayer does not have to be long to be powerful.
The length of our prayers really makes no difference to God. All that matters is that our prayers are Spirit-led, heartfelt, and accompanied by true faith.
There is certainly nothing wrong with praying for an extended period of time. I believe we should set aside times for prolonged prayer and that our willingness or lack of willingness to spend time with God determines our level of intimacy with Him.
If issues in our lives really require us to pray at great length, then we need to do that, but we do not have to pray prolonged prayers just for the sake of logging time.
I have learned that some of the most powerful, effective prayers I can pray are things like, "Thank You, Lord," or "Give me strength to keep going, Lord." And perhaps the most powerful of all: "Help!!!"
See? Just a few words will connect us with heaven, and God will know how much we love Him simply because we turn our thoughts toward Him.
If you have thought your prayers had to be long in order to be effective, I hope you have now been relieved of that burden. Just one word spoken to Him in faith from a sincere heart can reach His heart and move His hand.
Prayer Starter: Father, let my prayers today be like breathing—easy, comfortable, and almost without thinking. Help my prayers and conversations with You become more genuine and meaningful—less about “have to” and more about “want to.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Just Do It

Luke 13:14

Religion is dangerous. Religion would rather debate about healing than see somebody healed. Religion would rather argue about deliverance than see someone set free.
You can see an example of that in Luke 13. Jesus healed a woman who had been bowed over for 18 years. Think of it, a dear old woman—a daughter of Abraham Jesus called her—set free after being bound by the devil for nearly two decades. You'd think the temple rulers would have been rejoicing at what Jesus had done. But, no! They were angry because He'd done it on the wrong day.
Do you know what's worse? Those very same religious leaders who criticized Jesus for healing on the Sabbath could have ministered healing to that woman themselves on any of the other six days of the week if they'd cared enough to do it.
That's why Jesus was so indignant with them. They had the same covenant of Abraham that Jesus was ministering on. But their religion had kept that woman bound instead of setting her free. It always does.
Remember that next time someone tries to get you sidetracked into a religious debate about healing or deliverance. If someone needs to be delivered from a demon, just do it! Don't get all hung up on theological questions about where the demon is.
"Is it in his body? Or his brain? Or his spirit? Or his pocket?" While you're arguing about questions like that, the demon will be driving the poor guy up the wall.
The question isn't, "Where is the demon?" The question is, "Why haven't we gotten this man delivered? He's our blood brother in the Name of Jesus and he ought to be free!"
Once you start asking that question, you won't care whether that demon is inside or outside, hovering over or sitting under. All you'll care about is getting that person free!
That's the difference between religion and the love of God. Religion argues. Love acts. Choose love today.
