Minding Your Business Winning the World Cup?

Presented on US Sports Net by Yahoo Small Business!
By: Franziska Hall
The world cup is in full swing and everyone is cheering on their favourite teams (including me who stayed up until 4am to cheer on the Aussies, of course I am all for the Swiss too).
Why would I talk about the World Cup in an article for small business owners? Well, firstly to get your attention and secondly because there are a couple of great learnings we can take on board from this awesome event.

Dedication, hard work and focus: All of the soccer players are and have been so dedicated to their purpose, winning the world cup! The players are fully committed to their teams and have been working so hard to get where they are. It wasn’t just a quick achievement, but years, even decades of dedication, hard work and focus.

In your business you usually can’t expect a quick get rich scheme (even though some people might promise you exactly that). It takes dedication, hard work and focus to get ‘the plane off the ground’. But once it’s off the ground, the views can be spectacular.

Fan base: The soccer teams at the World Cup have a massive fan base and are being supported by so many people. This really does help their desire to win, they don’t want to disappoint their supporters, team mates or themselves.

Who is your fan base? Who are your supporters? Build a fan base that is cheering you on and supporting you in your ventures. Your fan base can be your friends, family or colleagues. You want to hang out with people that believe in you and are helping you reach your vision. It is so motivating to have people around you to share your successes with.

Team play: No soccer team will ever win the World Cup without amazing team play. Each player has a defined role and knows exactly what role he plays in the team.

Do you have defined roles in your business? Who is your marketing, sales, finance or admin person? Even if you are the one doing most of these tasks, it is essential to define them and spend time in each of them.
And if you do have a team, make sure each team player knows what is expected of him or her.

To your World Cup success,

Franziska

Maybe Aussies could focus a bit more on soccer and less on rugby. I think I might be in trouble for saying this. Go Socceroos!

Resident Physician Drops 51 lbs To Get Healthy and Fit

Presented on US Sports Net By Hitchfit!

What an amazing story to share with you today.  Brock was living an unhealthy lifestyle due to working 90+ hours per week during his residency.  He knew he had to take control of his life and health again he dropped 17 lbs on his own then contacted Hitch Fit.  In 15 weeks he dropped another 33.5 lbs!! SO proud of you my friend
Starting weight- 214 lbs
Stomach- 38.5″
Body fat- 24%
Ending Weight- 180.5 lbs
Stomach- 32.5″
Brock’s Story
As a new resident physician, my first two months of internal medicine rotations proved to be unhealthy. I worked a very stressful 92 hours each week, if driving time is included. When not heavily engaged in patient care or rushing to manage an emergency code, I was scarfing down an abundance of fresh seafood, steaks, ice cream, cappuccinos, and other delicacies available in the physician’s lounge. There was no time for exercise. Consequently, I gained over thirty pounds during these two months.

I wanted to finish medical residency in excellent health. I attempted to lose the weight on my own but only lost 17 pounds before realizing that I needed to contact my friend and former supervisor, Micah LaCerte (aka Hitch Fit), to accomplish my goals. I spent the next fifteen weeks following his individualized fitness and nutrition instructions in detail. I woke up each morning to run five miles, and spent each evening lifting weights for an additional 1-1.5 hours. During this 15-week period, I lost 33.5 additional pounds (from 214 pounds to 180.5 pounds) while gaining strength and a sense of well-being and accomplishment. My total weight loss was 51 pounds! I highly recommend Micah’s fitness challenge to those looking to look and feel their personal best.

It’s time to take matters into your own hands and educate yourself on real cancer prevention and treatments. It could save your life or the life of someone you love.

GMO's and Glyphosate, a Disastrous Marriage

By: Dee Everleigh
It has long been known that pesticides and herbicides are toxic for human consumption. Although their use can increase crop production, they are damaging to our bodies, and even to crop plants when sprayed directly on them. In 1996, Monsanto began genetically modifying soybeans, corn, cotton, sugarbeets and other crops for resistance to the herbicide glyphosate, commonly known as Roundup. This allowed growers to spray the herbicide directly onto the entire field without damaging the crop. Unfortunately, this has resulted in crop plants filled with herbicide. Now, this toxin has silently creeped into almost every food product in our grocery store, ultimately damaging the delicate balance of bacteria that lie within our digestive systems.

Glyphosate was discovered by John E. Franz, an organic chemist who synthesized the herbicide while working at Monsanto's Company in 1970. This chemical became, and now remains, the active ingredient in Roundup, a broad-spectrum herbicide used and sold by Monsanto. Today, it is still used in agriculture, and by millions of homeowners to control weeds in their landscapes.

Roundup is applied directly to the leaves of weeds, and works systemically. This means that once it is absorbed by the leaf, it spreads throughout the entire plant system. It kills the plant by interfering with the "shikimate pathway". This seven step pathway is a metabolic route which is vital to the lifecycle of bacteria, fungi, algae, and every living plant. When disrupted, the biosynthesis of necessary folates and aromatic acids such as phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan are halted. As production of these proteins fail, plant death is inevitable.

Initially, Roundup effectively controlled weed growth, however, contact with the crop plant was detrimental. Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum killer, which means it cannot distinguish between crop plants and unwanted weed species. In 1996, Monsanto set out to remedy this problem, by introducing Roundup Ready soybean. This was the first genetically engineered crop that was developed by Monsanto. It was created by introducing a bacterial gene resistant to glyphosate into the DNA of the soybean. This gene was derived from a type of bacteria called Agrobacteria, and now allowed farmers to spray Roundup not only the weeds, but the entire crop without damage.

In consequent years, a variety of other Roundup Ready crops were developed, including cotton, corn, sugarbeets and other crops. Roundup was effective until all susceptible weeds were killed, however, soon resistant weeds began to dominate farmlands across the world. These "superweeds" did not respond to the same dosages that killed their susceptible predecessors, therefore, growers simply increased application rates, to eradicate these superweeds.

The US Department of Agriculture has estimated that Roundup Ready crops have resulted in an additional application of 383 million pounds of herbicides. This increase in the use of glyphosate greatly increases the likelihood of the chemical running off into nearby ecosystems. At these elevated concentrations, glyphosate potentially causes environmental damage, as well as damage to human health.

Monsanto claims that glyphosates are not toxic to humans because human cells do not function by the shikimate pathway. This is true, however, the bacteria in our gut do use this pathway! This means that the glyphosphate residue that we ingest kills the beneficial bacteria in our digestive systems. Pathogenic bacteria are not affected, and as a result they dominate the gut, deplete micronutrients and produce ammonia and formadelhyde by-products, that toxify the system causing inflammation.

In addition, the absence of the production of folates and aromatic compounds cause cell shrinkage, resulting in the leakage of these produced toxins into the blood stream. This results in the development of many diseases including encephalitis, Alzheimer's, diabetes, obesity, cancer and autism to name a few.

The damages and affects of humans ingesting glyphosate (Roundup) require further investigation. At present, there are no regulations that require the labeling of products that contain glyphosate or the incorporation of GMO's. We are the ONLY country that does not require this! Therefore, many people continue to suffer unknowingly, completely unaware of the havoc this herbicide is causing within their bodies.

Police officer gets into snowball fight with neighborhood kids and Can I Be Removed from the Megan's Law Registry?

Police don't take snow days but sometimes they can make time for fun in the snow.[Video below]

I know the following is a tough subject, but one that must be considered by everyone in every community. Also as a reminder as to how tough the job of Law Enforcement is -Coach Nate
Can I Be Removed from the Megan's Law Registry?
By: Jonathan A. Kessous, Esq.
If you're charged with child sexual assault, a conviction can lead to prison time, lifetime parole and, most seriously, registration on the sex offender registry known as Megan's Law. Registration on this list severely restricts your life, including limits on where you might work or live. Your photograph may even be posted online in an Internet database, stigmatizing you further and possibly making you vulnerable to harassment -- even if you have served your time.

Bad45: Tacfit Bodyweight And Dumbell System

However, what you may not know is that Megan's Law allows for different tiers of classification. These tiers, from low risk to high risk, can drastically effect the consequences of Megan's Law on your life. Your defense attorney works to not only get you classified on the lowest tier possible, but also get you removed from Megan's List as soon as the law allows.

How Megan's Law Works
Enacted in 1994, Megan's Law is named for Megan Kanka, who was raped and murdered in Hamilton, New Jersey by a neighbor who happened to be a previous sex offender. This law requires convicted sex offenders to register on a list, notifying their neighbors and community of their sex offender status. If you don't register, you're likely looking at additional jail time and other penalties.

Here are some common questions defense attorneys often hear regarding Megan's Law:

• Who has to register on the sex offender list? Anyone who's been found guilty of child sexual assault or any other child-related sex crime must register. You'll be classified as Tier I (low-risk), Tier II (moderate risk), or Tier (III) high risk. You're also entitled to a hearing before final classification.
• What do the Tiers mean? A Tier I classification means law enforcement is notified of your status. Tier II means law enforcement, schools, day care centers, summer camps, and registered community organizations are also notified. Tier III notifies all of these plus the general public.
• Are juvenile sex offenders required to register? Yes.
• What if I move to another address? You must report your change of address to local police at least 10 days prior to your move.
• Will I be on Megan's List forever? You can file an application for removal after 15 years of good behavior. Your criminal defense lawyer in New Jersey can do this on your behalf.

Removal from the Sex Offender Registry
Megan's Law is a great asset to law enforcement officials in preventing repeat child sexual assault offenses. However, what if you were wrongly accused of sexual assault? Or, what happens if you have served your time? Is it fair to be stigmatized and punished for the rest of your life? This is especially critical if you are (or were) a juvenile at the time of your conviction. It may feel like you have no options, but your defense attorney can help.

If, after 15 years, you have not committed an offense after release from incarceration or after conviction, you can petition for removal from the Megan's Law sex offender registry. Your lawyer will work with you and a qualified psychologist to file this petition, and show the courts you are not a threat to the community. If an offender was under 14 years old when charged with child sexual assault, he or she can be eligible for petition at age 18, depending on the circumstances of the offense. Removal from the list allows you to move on with your life without embarrassment or stigma, and gives you a chance to start over.

A Megan's Law Defense Attorney Can Help
If you or a loved one is charged with any sex crime, you don't have to suffer for the rest of your life. Whether you made a terrible, one-time mistake or were wrongly accused of sexual assault, a sympathetic lawyer can help you with your case.

It Takes a Team

Adapted from the resource Love Out Loud Devotional - by Joyce MeyerIn 1867, John Roebling had a vision and a passion to do something experts said couldn't be done: build a bridge from Manhattan to Brooklyn, in New York City. No one believed it could be done, but Roebling and his son Washington, a young engineer, persevered.

The Roeblings hired their crew and finally got to work on John's dream. Only a few months into the project, a worksite accident took John's life. But the project continued, with Washington as its leader.
Three years later, Washington was severely injured. He was unable to talk, walk, or even move most of his body. But his mind was sharp, and his dream of building the bridge still burned in his heart.
Washington had two things in his favor: one finger that still worked and a wife who loved him. Roebling and his wife figured out a communication system in which he tapped on her arm. For eleven years, Washington tapped out messages and instructions for the bridge, until it was finally complete.
Washington Roebling needed a dependable team of people to achieve his dream. He needed his father, his crew, and his wife. We need other people too; we can love, support, help, and encourage them, and they can do the same for us.
Prayer Starter: Father, help me to never underestimate the value of the people You put in my life. Allow me to see who I need to help...and also who I should allow to help me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Yahoo Small Business Why Milestones Matter When Building a Website

Why Milestones Matter When Building a Website

BY BREA SALIM | SMALL BUSINESS

image

Ideas without execution are mere whims. If you want to see your notion become tangible, you’ll need a plan to bring it to fruition. This is just as true for developing a website as it is for building a house.
Of course, the advent of website builder software has made producing an attractive web presence easier than ever. However, if you don’t have a rigid set of guidelines in place to keep the project on track, it can very easily go off the rails. This is why milestones matter when building a website.

What Are Milestones?

The easiest way to think of milestones is stages of accomplishment. By “X” date, we will have completed the “Y” portion of the project, so we can then move on to the “Z” phase, and so on. When you’re building a website, these stages usually include planning, design, content creation and SEO, development, testing and launch.

Planning

This is where you take all of the aspects of the project into consideration, figure out what tasks need to be done to fulfill them and place them in a logical order. This helps you get a feel for how long it will take to complete each one as well as finish the overall project—and what it will ultimately cost.

Design

This part is made a bit easier with the existence of templated themes. Still, because they can be customized to reflect your own unique vision you’ll still need to spend some time thinking about how you want the finished product to look. The key considerations here are the design of the home page, landing pages, information and product pages, and mobile screens. You’ll also need to consider the look of your navigation and other key pages, such as “About Us” and “Contact Us”. Checkout and payment pages will also need treatments if the site will be used for ecommerce.

Content Creation & SEO

While your design team is working up the look, your content team should be developing the site’s voice. You’ll need page titles and headings, search engine optimization (keywords placed optimally in titles, headings, content and image tags), key messaging and calls to action. Sourcing and/or producing articles and images along with audio and video clips should also be conducted at this time.

Development

With the first three milestones complete, you can start assembling elements to actually build the site. You’ll set up the pages, plug in the content and place your images. Links to various elements from the home page and the navigation bars will also be created during this phase. When you’re done with development, the site look finished—but there are still a couple of more steps to go.

Testing

During this aspect of the production, you’ll go through and test all links, buttons and functions to ensure everything works the way it should. When you click an email address, you should get a popup for creating a message; when you click a “Buy Now” button, you should be taken to a checkout page, etc, etc., etc. Videos should play in the format prescribed. In other words, all functionalities should be reviewed to ensure they do what visitors expect.

Launch

You should be laying the groundwork for your marketing blitz to support your launch while the work above is going on in the background. Get your social presences up and running, tease the development of the site as the various milestones are met—and just generally build anticipation for the day the site goes live.

Then, take it live!

With those milestones completed, you might be tempted to rest on your laurels. However, rather than completion, this begins the management of the life of the site. As users interact with it, you’ll find opportunities for improvement. You’ll also need to add functionalities as technological developments emerge. Security is an ongoing concern as well.
Still, you can enjoy the satisfaction of seeing your idea brought to life right before your eyes. And ultimately, this is why timelines matter when you’re building a website. If you have a tool by which to measure progress, you’ll get a sense of accomplishment as each one is completed. And, it’s even easier with a good website builder like the ones offered by Yahoo Small Business. Check it out today!
