For Him: 10 Exercises to Get You Back in Shape
Getting back in the gym after a long absence can be difficult. Since
it only takes three days without training for you to start losing some
of your cardio capacity, you should not expect to return immediately to
the workouts you “used” to do after weeks, months or even years of
absence. When you are committed to regaining your fitness, these are the
top ten exercises for getting back in shape.
WARM UP
Stretch, get on the elliptical for a few minutes, jump rope or just
do something that loosens you up and lets your body know it should be
ready for action. Take about 10-15 minutes to get loose before you
begin.
PUSHUPS
Everyone should know how to do this and if you did 2000 pushups every
day like Walter Payton, maybe you would always be in shape. It’s simple
and there are multiple variations that work different muscle groups.
Put your hands about shoulder-width apart on the floor. Keep your body
straight and lower yourself down and back up.
PULLUPS
Grab the bar with your hands slightly wider than your shoulders. Take
an overhand grip with your thumbs wrapped atop the bar with your
fingers. Pull yourself up. As you reach the bar, pull your elbows down
and back to get more height over the bar.
DUMBBELL LATERAL RAISE
Stand with the dumbbells in each hand at your side with the palms of
your hands facing towards you. Keeping good posture and your upper body
stationary, lift the dumbbells out to each side, slightly bending the
elbow and tilting the weight as if you were pouring water from a
pitcher. Raise arms until they are parallel to the floor.
DIPS – PARALLEL BAR
This exercise is simple and works different muscles in your upper
body with slight variations in form. Simply grab the bars with both
hands and lower yourself down and up. Hold your body straight up and
down to work triceps and bend your legs and lean over to focus on the
chest.
DUMBBELL ROWS
This exercise targets those back muscles you’re trying to get back in
shape. Stand with the dumbbells in each hand at your side with the
palms of your hands facing towards you. Keeping good posture and your
upper body stationary, flex at the hip to lean forward. Keep your back
straight throughout the lift. Keep your elbows to your sides. Extend the
shoulder, flex the elbows and row the dumbbells up towards your torso
until your elbows are at 90-degree angles. Keeping your shoulders
retracted, squeeze your scapulae. Slowly return the dumbbells to the
starting position and repeat.
SQUATS
This is one of the basics for building your body and staying in
shape. It can be done with and without weights. While standing with your
feet a little wider than your hips, point your toes slightly outward.
Look straight ahead. You can focus on a spot on the wall for balance.
Squat down until your hip joint comes lower than your knees. Repeat.
HAMMER CURLS
Stand with a dumbbell in each hand. Hold your upper arm stationary,
and keep your elbows close to your body as you curl the weight towards
your shoulders. Your hands should remain facing inwards. Hold for a
moment, feeling the squeeze in your biceps. Slowly lower back down.
ROMANIAN DEADLIFT
Hold a barbell at hip level with a palms-down grip. Keep your
shoulders back, arch your back, and slightly bend your knees. Move your
butt back as far as you can to lower the bar until you feel a stretch in
your hamstrings. Keep the bar close to your body, your head forward and
your shoulders back. Return to the starting position by driving your
hips forward and standing up tall.

Police Department demonstrate a training scenario in which they try to
get potentially suicidal veteran to drop a knife. Suicide Intervention
By: Nancy O'connor Phd
When someone you love commits
suicide the people left behind are devastated, confused and in shock.
There are so many unanswered questions, many will never be answered.
Speculation and guilt become overwhelming. Suicide is a permanent
solution to a temporary problem. Most often the death is preceded by a
crippling depression. Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness are
powerful emotions leading to despair. A failed relationship is often the
spark that fans the flames of feeling worthless and has a devastating
effect with no real or perceived resolution. Suicide may be
premeditated or impulsive. Often they have signaled their self
destructive thoughts and plans. Many times clues are given, but they are
so subtle that they are not understood until later. Or they may lash
out in a rage to hurt or punish someone who they believe has abandoned,
betrayed or offended them. When the depression is chronic the
suicide may be planned down to the smallest detail. I knew one young man
who wrote his final bills and signed the checks leaving only the
amounts blank to be filled in and mailed in the addressed stamped
envelopes after his death. He rehearsed his death so many times in his
mind, that when the time came the final act easy....but not for his
family and friends. They were shocked, devastated and riddled with
guilt at not realizing how lonely and unhappy he really was.
Impulsive suicide may be prevented with intervention. Threat of
suicide is a call for help. Women threaten suicide more often than man
generally using pills. Men on the other hand commit suicide more often
than women using more violent means like a gun or hanging. Any
threat or talk about suicide should be taken seriously, even if
disguised as a joke. Help is available in the form of either voluntary
or involuntary admission to a psychiatric hospital. When a person is "a
danger to their self or others" they meet the criteria for admission.
The usual stay is a 72 hour evaluation which gives time for "cooling
off period," getting a diagnosis and being prescribed medication if
necessary. A voluntary admission is better, but if they refuse to
go then call 911 and the police will escort them. A court order will be
issued for an involuntary admission. Obviously a voluntary admission is
better and less traumatic. Many suicides are avoided by getting help.
This may be hard to do but you could save a life. They worst part
is all the unanswered questions that will never be answered and the
inevitable guilt felt by survivors. Guilt only delays your healing
process so let it go. Healing the grief for such a traumatic loss can be
an emotional roller coaster and the healing process will be complicated
and prolonged. Every survivor had a different relationship to
the victim and each person will grieve in his or her own way. Grieving
is a very individual and personal process. Grieving is a very personal
process and everyone does it in their own way. There is no right or
wrong way to grieve. Don't judge others if they don't grieve the way you
do. Be tolerant, loving and accepting of yourself and all the people
who were related to the person. Support groups can be very
helpful to some people to facilitate the emotional healing process.
Talking to people who have had a similar experience can be useful and
bonding. It is worth checking out this resource This is a time to be
gentle and kind to yourself.
The book Letting Go With Love:The Grieving Process has more information
on this topic including a chapter of Suicide. The author Dr. Nancy
O'Connor has personally experienced the suicide of her father and
brother. Her book is available at Amazon.com and on the web site http://www.lamariposapress.com

By: David Hopkins
If you want to know how to pray
like Jesus and how praying like Jesus can improve your prayer life
substantially in a way that makes sure you cover all the bases and
please God, unlike the usual selfish me, me, me orientated prayers that
most people are used to. Or if you simply need to figure out how to pray and need a template to help guide you threw then listen to this. Matthew 6:9 "After this manner therefore pray ye:" Step #1 Acknowledge Our God. "Our Father which art in heaven," The Bible says that God is in heaven so by acknowledging that He is in heaven you are clear about who you are praying to. But
more important than that is the fact that Jesus gave us the right to
call God our father, which He is because He takes care of our needs and
protects us anyway. Step #2 Praise Our God "Hallowed be thy name." By
saying that Gods name is hallowed or holy you are praising and
glorifying His name and putting Him on high where He deserves to be. And
of course there are plenty of other reasons in the Bible to praise Him
and you may have even experienced some miracles of your own. Step #3 Ask For His Will To Be Done In Our Lives. "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." God can do anything He loves us and knows whats best for us. Therefore before you go telling God what you think should happen or what you think you need, do this. Ask
that His will be done in your life so He can bless other people and you
at the same time and not just feed your selfish pride and desires. Which He probably won't anyway because He doesn't like pride. Step #4 Ask For Our Needs. "Give us this day our daily bread." Hey we all have needs and God knows it and takes care of them. But
sometimes you may have a need that will also benefit other people like
if you need to take care of your family and you're out of work. There's
nothing wrong with asking Him to help you find a good job so you can
take care of the kids, spouse or whoever in addition to yourself. Step #5 Ask For Our Forgiveness. "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." Don't
even go here if you refuse to forgive people and are the type that
likes to hold grudges forever like you never did anybody wrong yourself. The Bible is pretty clear when it comes to forgiveness if you don't forgive God won't forgive you. And I don't think He's playing around about this one. Step #6 Ask For Our Protection. "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:" It's not God's fault when bad things happen to us but the devil is clearly trying to kill, steal and destroy us. So it's important that we ask God to not let us fall into temptation and especially when we're recovering from something. I don't care how good you think you are we all fall to temptation and need extra help from God. David Hopkins is a Christian article writer for The Daily Word Of God Group. Wondering
how to fix your business’s culture? If you’re like most business
leaders, you probably are. VitalSmarts founders and researchers Joseph Grenny and David Maxfield found recently
that a large majority of executives, managers, and employees have an
unfavorable view of their culture, and that views of what an
organization values differ drastically between management and employees.
How to align views and improve the environment? These experts say start
by talking about it.“There is no way to close this gap
without honest, open dialogue,” says Grenny. “Basically, people say
their leaders hype one set of behaviors but reward another—that gap in
perception is the starting point for conversation.“ Grenny says
leaders need to make employees feel that it’s safe to ask for clarity
about company values. "If leaders are seen as sending mixed messages
about what they truly believe will drive performance, they should invite
employees to point out this perceived hypocrisy,” he says. “Leaders
tend to think employees won’t open up—but we’ve seen the opposite. When
an executive sits down and truly listens, employees will be surprisingly
honest.”
VitalSmarts, a
leadership training company, has found that culture change can occur
when leadership is trained in the skills to speak up and hold people
accountable. According to Maxfield, cultures improve when leaders
participate in interpersonal skills training. Trained leaders, he says,
aren’t just better at communicating with and managing their teams, but
they can also teach those skills to employees. The outcome, he says, is
“a new, healthy cultural norm.” Grenny and Maxfield, whose books
Crucial Conversations and Crucial Accountability were New York Times
business bestsellers, recommend four leadership strategies for starting a
candid discussion about a culture chasm:
Understand the business case.
Before you set off to change your culture, be clear about the business
reasons for doing so. Leaders who do it as a feel-good strategy turn it
into a hobby and tend to create little beyond cynicism. There are hard,
measurable reasons for changing culture—articulate those before you
begin.
Focus on vital behaviors. You can’t change 10
to 15 behaviors in a company—you can really only focus on a vital two or
three. Pick the behaviors that will make the biggest difference in
performance.
Listen deeply. Before you can change
culture, you need to know where you stand. The best way to do this isn’t
with a safe, antiseptic survey administered by outsiders. The best way
is for executives to vulnerably engage with the employees who know best.
Pair up, meet with groups of 8 to 10 employees. Spend 60 to 90 minutes
asking open-ended questions like, “What advice would you give a friend
if they came to work here?” “What does it take to succeed here?” or “If
you had a magic wand, what’s one thing you would change?”
Take action.
Listening creates expectations. Once employees take a risk to share
their perceptions, they begin watching to see if you’ve really listened.
They’ll want to see evidence. Pick a couple of valued and visible
concerns and address them quickly. This builds trust in your sincerity
to make longer-term changes that may involve the employees themselves
changing their behavior.
[Video below]-Emily Nelson Class of 2019 - SS, 3B, Utility Strength Training Develops Solid Softball Players
By: Lynn Vandyke
Softball is a popular sport these
days. Corporations, adult leagues and inner-city competitions are
fueling the demand for skilled and competitive players. While softball
may be experiencing a surge of interest, the basic techniques to improve
your game and gain a competitive edge have remained the same. Many
do not realize that basic softball movements such as batting and
throwing are not a directly related to arm strength. The movement
begins in the legs. The power is then transferred into the hips, the
torso, the upper back, the chest, the shoulders and then the arms. A
proper softball strength training routine will include an exercise for
each muscle group. During the off-season, athletes will be able to
strength train 2-3 times per week. Training should be reduced to 1-2
times per week during the season. Each exercise should be performed
8-12 times for 1-3 sets. Quickness, speed, agility, balance,
explosiveness, and power will be enhanced as the strength training
program progresses. Below is a list of sample exercises for the
commonly used muscles in softball. There are many other exercises you
could perform, but this will provide a starting point. Quadriceps- Squats, One-Legged Squats, Jump Squats Hams & Glutes- Lunges, Explosive Lunges, Bridge on Ball Hip Adductors/Abductors- Lying Side Leg Raises, Ball Squeeze Obliques- Oblique Crunch on Ball Rectus Abdominis- Ball Crunch, 180 Ball Crunch Erector Spinae- Plank Pose Deltoids- Shoulder Press, Military Press Pectoralis Major- Chest Fly, Chest Press, Push ups Latissimus Dorsi- Bent Over Row, Reverse Fly Triceps- Overhead Extensions, Skull crushers Biceps- Bicep Curl, Hammer Curl A
powerful softball strength training program will produce powerful
players. Use a full ROM (range of motion) for each exercise. Generally
free weights provide a better ROM than machines, but use which ever
feels best to you. The ultimate goal is to create a solid program that
will deliver a well-rounded athlete.

Coffee is not just coffee anymore. You can choose beans, grounds,
K-cups, creamer flavors, sizes, hot, iced, brands… you name it, it’s
probably available. But when it comes to a coffee that offers benefits
other than a caffeine boost, two options rise to the top. The sweet,
creamy and nutritiously dense Keto Bomb™ creamer and the trendy,
fat-rich, Bulletproof coffee. Here is a breakdown of the benefits of
each and how to make them. Take a look and see how these two distinct
cups of coffee stack up.
Designed to be the perfect addition to a ketogenic or low-carb diet,
Keto Bomb™ is a delicious and nourishing ketogenic creamer. It utilizes a
blend of electrolytes, medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) and essential
fats to help fuel your body and brain. Simply add a scoop of Keto Bomb™
to your coffee for an easy, delicious way to boost your daily fat
intake. For a ketogenic diet, these fat calories are essential to help
your body burn fat and support your weight loss goals.
Electrolytes: Help the body to maintain proper hydration levels.
MCTs: These fatty acids are good fats that may support cognitive function and weight management.
Essential fats: On a ketogenic diet, fats are 75%
of your recommended daily caloric intake. This helps transition your
body from using glucose (carbs) as energy to using ketones (fat) as
energy, which supports weight loss.
Bulletproof coffee is more nutritious than your average cup of joe.
It is loaded with calories and healthy fats to match. Often used when
fasting, Bulletproof coffee provides energy and can help you feel
satiated.
Start by adding 2 ½ tablespoons of Bulletproof ground coffee to 8
ounces of boiling water and set it to brew. Then, add 1-2 tablespoons of
Bulletproof Ghee and 1 serving of Brain Octane oil. Put it in an
immersion blender until frothy and serve.
Conclusion
Keto Bomb™ and Bulletproof coffee both have their advantages. If you
have plenty of time to play Barista, a Bulletproof coffee may be worth
checking out. However, for all the benefits of Bulletproof with the
addition of electrolytes and stir-and-go convenience, Keto Bomb™ reigns
supreme. In our fast-paced world, the one scoop solution can turn a
hectic morning into a delicious, nutritious and enjoyable daily routine.
