The Causes of Discouragement

A life of faith isn't always easy. But we have a constant refuge in times of trouble.

Psalms 43:1-5

What has caused you to feel discouraged? Sometimes the reason is easy to identify, but other times there are subtle, less obvious factors. Things that can contribute to discouragement include ...

  • An area of weakness. Some sins seem to have a stronghold in our life, and no matter how hard we try to overcome them, we still struggle. If the temptation begins to feel inescapable, we can become disheartened.

  • Unanswered prayer. When the answer to a prayer is no or not now, we can lose hope, especially if we’ve prayed a long time.

  • Prayerlessness. Failing to understand God’s sovereignty and timing can lead to discouragement. However, cutting off communication with Him will lead only to deeper despair. Consistent prayer keeps us connected to our source of hope. Keep reading with the Intouch app......@Apple, @Amazon

The Outcome of Discouragement

How we respond to disappointment shapes how we experience God’s faithfulness.

Psalms 40:1-3

Discouragement is a common problem. As we saw yesterday, it may start with a divided mind but can easily turn into blaming others and giving way to anger. Sadly, its effects don’t stop there.

When disappointments pile up without resolution, our relationships suffer. If we see the one who disappointed us as the source of all our troubles, we may distance ourselves or even end the relationship altogether. Unresolved disappointment can also damage our sense of self-worth over time......keep reading with the Intouch Ministries app @Apple, @Amazon

The Symptoms of Discouragement

There is danger in discouragement. But with God’s strength, we can overcome it.

James 1:2-4

One of the most dangerous feelings is discouragement. When it takes hold, it can affect every area of our life. Understanding how discouragement shows up can help us recognize and address it.

A divided mind is often the first sign. This underlying distraction clouds every decision and thought. No matter what you’re doing, it feels as if a shadow has settled over your entire perspective, making it hard to think clearly or find joy in anything.....Keep reading with the Intouch Ministries app @ Apple, @ Amazon

Woo Pig - Add a wrinkle with these Arkansas Downhill Run Variations

Arkansas is #16 in the country in rushing offense averaging 289 yards per game rushing for 333 yards in a win over Texas (in 2021 as of the writing of this article).  They have their run game rolling!

Razorback OL Coach Cody Kennedy has been a coach on the rise. After being hired by Southern Miss at the beginning of this year, he was wooed by Arkansas to become their tight ends coach and soon after was moved into the offensive line position.

In his prior seasons at Tulane, he had the Green Wave offense rolling in the ground game with 32 rushing TD (7th nationally) and 217.1 yards per game (17th).

Watching the first two games the Razorbacks lean on the zone running game and gap schemes. Coach Kennedy loves the variations to these schemes as well.

One way to move the ball downhill is to use the gap scheme variation of Duo.

The schemes you add will have to attack some of the trending fronts as well, and the most popular front we’ve seen in the last couple of seasons has been the Mint front or 4i-0-4i that has been made popular at the college level.  The Duo is great for attacking this front, and Coach Kennedy explains it here:

Kennedy breaks down game film of the Duo play in this video:

In the Zone running game, Coach Kennedy likes the Wham play to separate the defense and open up running lanes.

Within the Wham concepts are “Bam,” and “Slam” that fit well into offenses that use an off tight end (or sniffer) and have established rules for running the inside zone.  He suggests these plays as change-ups to be run 3-5 times a game.

He shares “Bam” vs. an Under front here:

What comes through in both of these clinic talks is that Coach Kennedy is an incredible teacher of the game.  His coaching points are concise and he does a tremendous job of utilizing visual teaching.

If you are running gap schemes or zone schemes then these plays are simple variations you can add to your ground attack with very little new teaching.  They are the perfect wrinkle as you hit the middle of your schedule and beyond.

Best of luck this upcoming season!
