Strength Coach Sprint Training as Injury Prevention

This study compared the Nordic Hamstring Exercise and sprinting and, looked at both injury prevention and speed development. Not surprisingly, sprinting benefited both injury prevention and speed development.
As I mentioned in my article last week 36 Years at The Train Station I'm just trying to make a case to include sprinting in the training program:

For Thirty Six Years I Patiently Waited at the Train Station Hoping My Ship Would Come In

Michael Boyle - November 19, 2018
For me, strength and conditioning coaching will always be the lifetime search for the Holy Grail, the perfect program, the  secret. I've said numerous times that the big secret may be that there is no secret.
I've also always said that it's all about training hard, the Tortoise beating the Hare, and slow and steady winning the race.
However, every once in a while, like Indiana Jones, you find a little piece of the treasure map and move a step closer to that ideal program.
This year I realized that the reason my ship never came in was because I was waiting at the train station.
Even though our stated goal was to improve speed and power I kept convincing myself that the key, the big key, was going to be found in the weightroom.
I can't tell you how many athletes we developed that got stronger and more powerful but, marginally faster. We saw vertical jump increases of 12” in both men and women but often comparatively marginal increases in speed.
If you looked at our training, and at training in general, you'd see programs designed to improve vertical jump but, probably not horizontal speed. The reality was that we consistently trained vertically yet somehow expected miraculous horizontal changes.
In the weightroom we consistently pushed down into the ground in hope that we would somehow push forward better. Just look at Olympic lifts, squats and deadlifts, our weightroom staples. The loads are all translated vertically, not horizontally....Join StrengthCoach.com today to see the full article and videos.....  http://bit.ly/StrengthCoachHS

iHealthTube Featuring: Why Some Cancers Are Tougher to Treat than Others and Current Cancer Treatments

Dr. Jose Henriquez discusses the differences in some cancer tumors and why some are tougher to treat and some react better to treatments. [Video below]
More cancer treatment info- http://bit.ly/TTACPub

Current Cancer Treatments
By: Mark Walters

Cancer can be one of the most devastating diagnoses that a doctor can tell a patient. It is one of those conditions that can literally change someone's life, and it has plagued humankind for ages. Only recently have any viable means of combating cancer emerged thanks to medical science, along with better ways of detecting it before it causes too much damage. However, there is still quite a bit about this condition that we are not certain of, and many treatments may not work all the time for the more stubborn cancers. The current treatments include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and the use of hormones.

Surgery is among the oldest known treatments for cancer. Most patients with cancer will undergo surgery, having doctors remove the tumors if it is found early on. This option has the benefit of depriving it of a chance to grow, or to remove a tumor before it starts to spread. It is not the kind of treatment that is used alone, however. Most doctors would insist their patients undergo one other form of therapy along with the surgery. This is because there are some cases where the cancer, even if the tumor is removed, is capable of persisting. The other therapy is designed to help make sure that the cancer does not return once the tumor has been taken out.

Radiation therapy is also a viable and somewhat common option for dealing with cancer. The area where the growth occurs is exposed to radiation to attack the cancerous cells. The radiation kills the cancerous cells, but it can also damage healthy cells in the process, causing numerous side effects that can range from unpleasant to potentially dangerous. It is often used not as a treatment in itself, but as a way of making tumors smaller and easier to manage. Once made to shrink into a more acceptable or controllable size, surgery might be suggested to remove what is left.

Chemotherapy, which a cancer treatment that utilizes certain medications and drugs, is considered an effective means of treating cancer once it has spread to other areas of the body, particularly if it cannot be treated by any other method. This form can also be used to limit the spread of cancer cells in the body, and alleviate some of its symptoms. However, similar to the use of radiation, chemotherapy can also affect healthy cells that are exposed to it. In such a case, it can cause the same general side effects.

Two recent developments include hormone therapy and immunotherapy, though neither one is very widespread. The first one utilizes hormones and manipulates the levels in the body to treat the cancer. This may include administering hormones along with medication. Removal of hormone glands to kill cancer cells and prevent further growth is also known. Immunotherapy functions by manipulating the body's immune functions, making the immune system attack cancerous cells through the use of medications.

World’s Greatest Military Operators and Law Enforcement Professionals Reveal the Secret Bodyweight-Only Training System Used By Elite Tactical Athletes

RE: ðŸ’ªSpecial Report by Joseph Arangio, Tactical Strength and Conditioning Coach

The entire exchange was caught on dash and body camera video and was released to Contact 5 after 13 months of asking for the records. According to the video, Major Michael Johnson was pulled over by Officer Mark Sohn for allegedly driving 97 mph in a 65 mph zone in Interstate 95, while off-duty in September 2017. Johnson was in his unmarked police vehicle and Sohn was driving his K9 vehicle at the time of the incident. “Seriously,” Johnson says in the video? “Well you were speeding,” Sohn replies. “I’m just trying to do my job.” Later in the video and in the internal affairs report, Sohn admits he had no idea he was pulling over his supervisor or that the vehicle was an unmarked car assigned to the department. Sohn let’s Johnson off with a warning, but moments later, Sohn is back out of his vehicle. This time, Johnson is pulling him over. “You seriously talk me like that? You just failed a signal, your lane change, and you also failed to make your left-hand turn,” Johnson says in the video. “My left turn?” Sohn asks. “When you made your left turn off I-95 on the overpass, you didn’t have your signal on. Are you seriously serious about this?” Johnson asks again. The confrontation continues until Johnson realizes he is being recorded on Sohn’s body camera. “Is your body camera on?,” asks Johnson. “It is on,” says Sohn. “Please make sure it is on...I agreed I was speeding. You want to write me a ticket?” Johnson asks. The exchange sparked a 13-month investigation into Johnson on claims of unbecoming conduct and unsatisfactory performance. Johnson told investigators he pulled Sohn over because he 'just wanted to talk'. Initially, Johnson received a written reprimand for both claims, but this week, City Manager Lori LaVerriere rejected the unbecoming conduct allegation since Johnson did not actually receive a citation for speeding. (According to the internal affairs report, speed is specifically listed as an example of behavior that would violate the city's unbecoming conduct rule. It is not necessary for an officer to receive a citation for the violation to be sustained.) The City Manager wrote in his review of the case, “Although it is my expectation that all law enforcement officers should strictly obey traffic laws and be treated exactly how the general public treated (sic) when a violation occurs, I have lingering concerns regarding whether your initial traffic stop and the subsequent internal investigation were motived by something more than a driving violation. I find it interesting that someone contacted and alerted an investigative news report of the interaction, as evidenced by a reporter’s submission of a records request for the specific body camera video within three days of the interaction. I will be requesting that the Chief identify and monitor internal departmental politics and alliances that may be detrimental to the mission of the organization.”

You Are at a Place Of Prayer from Joycemeyer.org

Under the Old Covenant, the temple was the house of God, the place of prayer for His people, the children of Israel. The temple had three compartments, one of which was the Holy of Holies, and it held the presence of God! Amazingly, now our renewed and sanctified spirit is the place where His presence dwells!

Under the New Covenant, the apostle Paul tells us that God’s presence is now a mystery revealed, which is of Christ in us, “the Hope of glory” (see Colossians 1:27).
Because of the union you now have with Christ, you can be close to God because you are God’s living temple. You are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, a building still under construction, but nonetheless His house, His tabernacle. Paul goes to great length in encouraging us to live a holy life because we are the temple of God.
Whereas the children of Israel had to go to a specific place to offer their worship with detailed instructions, we have the incredible privilege of worshiping God anywhere and at any time. Therefore, we can be called a house of prayer.
Prayer Starter: Oh, Lord, I thank You for Your Holy Spirit Who lives inside of me. Thank You that Your awesome presence goes with me everywhere I go! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
