Yahoo Small Business-Yes, You Can Teach an Old Company New Tricks, Innovation Psychologist Says

By Adrienne Burke | Small Business

image
There’s a science to being creative, and, having worked with such innovative giants as Google, Disney, LEGO, and Virgin, Amantha Imber has it figured out. In her new book, The Innovation Formula, the best-selling innovation psychologist and founder of the Australian innovation consultancy Inventium, offers “14 science-based keys for creating a culture where innovation thrives.” We had the opportunity to ask the creativity genius a few questions.Aabaco Small Business Advisor: Please explain a little about your work as an innovation psychologist.
Amantha Imber: As an innovation psychologist, I specialize in dissecting the latest research in fields such as cognitive science, organizational psychology, and neuroscience into what has been scientifically proven to increase innovation within organizations. My firm also conducts our own research into the key drivers of Australia’s most innovative companies.
ASB: You are also a singer. Your combination of right and left brain expertise seems to make you uniquely suited to writing about the science of creativity. Do you find that creative people resist the idea that there could be a formula for nurturing creative output?
Amantha Imber: Absolutely. I find that “creative” people are the most resistant to being told that creativity is a skill that can be taught. I think this makes some creative people feel less special. Indeed, our ability to think creatively is actually only 30% genetically pre-determined. The rest is up to us. By using tools that have been scientifically proven to increase our ability to come up with great ideas and exposing ourselves to stimulus that increases creativity, every one of us can significantly increase our creative thinking abilities.

image
ASB: You talk in your book about the strong innovation culture at GE and the weak one at Yahoo. The differences are well known by now to many people, but they seem opposite of what we should expect – that a relatively young dotcom business would be far more innovative than an ancient manufacturing company. Is there a simple way to explain the reason for the differences in level of innovation between those two particular companies?Amantha Imber: In my book, I talk about an initiative that Jeff Immelt started at GE called Imagination Breakthroughs (IBs). In 2003, Immelt introduced IBs to his senior leadership team, which he defined as an innovation that would contribute $100 million of incremental growth. Each member of the team was responsible for generating three IB’s every year. The challenge is big, but the resources made available to leaders make it a challenge that they can meet. And what we know from research is that setting people big challenges - but ones that they have the skills and resources to achieve - is one of the most important drivers of innovation culture.
Unlike GE, which continues to produce breakthrough innovations in the many industry sectors they play in, Yahoo has struggled to disrupt its competitors and, from an outsider’s point of view, appears to play it safe. Incremental innovation rather than more breakthrough innovation has become the focus, and as such, the risk adversity inherent in this focus has a negative impact on innovation.
ASB: Do you think small businesses have a better shot at being truly innovative than large corporations do? Why?
Amantha Imber: Small business have several big advantages over big businesses - they can move quickly, they don’t have bureaucracy slowing them down, they can make fast decisions, and they tend to be a lot less risk adverse. These are all significant benefits in the innovation race, but also ones that small businesses can take for granted.
ASB: Can you describe work you might have done helping transform a particular small business into an innovative culture?
Amantha Imber:  A lot of the work we have done with smaller businesses involves helping them build innovation capability. We have taught many businesses how to identify customer-driven innovation opportunities and given them tools they can use again and again to keep uncovering new opportunities for their business.
We have taught many small businesses tools that have been scientifically proven to enhance their creative thinking efforts - to give them a competitive advantage in the kinds of thinking and ideas they produce.
And finally, we have worked with many businesses in teaching them how to experiment with an idea and test it properly with customers before investing a lot of money into implementing it. Essentially, having the skills to experiment with ideas prior to implementation is a great way to de-risk innovation.

Youth Soccer Coaching Tips - Are You Coaching Soccer Tactics Too Early?

By: Bert Ingley

Both experienced and inexperienced youth soccer coaches are running players out of the game. The kids aren't having fun, aren't improving, and are getting burned out at an early age.

Shop Now for 10% off baseball batting gloves from Baseball Rampage!

One big mistake coaches make is not knowing what their players are able to handle.

Here's a couple of other noticeable characteristics for these ages. I am sure that you have experienced the same things at home, so why expect it to be different on the soccer field?

U-10/11 Children typically...

; have an improved attention span compared to U8 ; are learning to become team oriented  like lots of motion, but can hold still for short explanations  have reasonably well developed small motor skills  like balls and equipment they can identify with teams and players are beginning to understand game speeds (can go all out, or at 1/2 speed)

U-12/13 Children typically...

==> have an improved attention span compared to U10/11 are much more team oriented ==> are able to handle longer explanations as long as they are interesting ==> begin to look to do creative and clever things with the ball ==> are able to strike the ball with speed, distance and some accuracy ==> have a pretty good understanding game speeds (can go all out, or at 1/2 speed)

With that being said, the pressure is really off of you!!

That's right, no pressure here. You don't have to teach the offside trap, the 4-4-2 formation, the double scissors and set plays. Your job is to help them continue to develop their technical skills and introduce basic tactics.

You see, kids come to practice and game to PLAY soccer. They aren't there to discuss soccer philosophy, stand in line, get lectured to, etc. They want to kick the ball. Preferably as often as possible.

HINT: Kids want to have fun playing soccer. They enjoy the game more when they get to touch the ball A LOT!

If you can develop in your children the love of soccer, they will develop as players. We'll talk more about this later, but suffice it to say that if your kids are passionate about soccer, they will become good players.

I see the question asked over and over (and asked it to myself as well)..."How do you teach soccer tactics to the U10s "

I (and many other coaches) have researched, studied and labored over this question. And the bottom line answer is...YOU DON'T

A 9 year old doesn't want to stay back on defense, he wants to chase, trap and dribble that darn ball. After working hard to get a hold of that thing, he doesn't want to pass it, he wants to kick it around a bit.

I've come to this conclusion about the development of the youngest players. I want them to love the game of soccer. I want them to love to have the ball at their feet. If they have a passion for soccer, then tactics will come in their own time and can be introduced a piece at a time.

U12s Are A Different Matter

U12s, however, are a different ball game. By this time, players are able to perform the fundamentals with increased coordination. If you give them a good demonstration, they are able to duplicate it with some effort. The players have more confidence and are better able to look up from time to time while playing.

CoachTube Presents: Inside Zone Basics vs Odd Front - Chris Ault

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE WHOLE THING:  Chris Ault's University of Nevada Pistol Offense was truly an epic shift in football. His Pistol schemes were copied at all levels of competion, and why not? In 2009 his team averaged over 500 yards a game and had three rushers gain over 1000 yards for the season. Keep in mind that these numbers came from a very sound and aggressive down-hill rushing attack, not a spread tempo offense snapping the ball every 20 seconds. In 2009, Nevada amassed these goddy numbers while averaging less than 70 plays a game.

What made the offense go? It was the inside zone. All of Nevada's Pistol attack stemmed from two inside zone run concepts. In this course, you can be tutored by College Football Hall of Fame Coach Chris Ault to learn the basics of the Nevada inside zone, get whiteboard instruction, and teach tapes to execute the top two rushing plays from Wolfpacks' vaunted Pistol attack. What's the best part? Both plays use the same blocking scheme: inside zone.

BPI Sports Presents: How Protein is Made and TAKE PRIDE Video!

quality protein
When you are putting your best into your training, you should be getting the best from your nutrition, and this includes supplements. Whether it’s your protein powder or any other nutritional product you put in your body, you deserve to know with 100% accuracy that what you see stated on the label is exactly what is in the bottle.
In this article, we give you an inside look at how we make our quality protein. It’s one way to show you we have nothing to hide, and that we’re committed to helping you reach your goals by providing the supplements you deserve.

What is Whey Protein?

Whey is a by-product of the cheese production process. After the solids are strained from milk, the pure liquid whey is what remains. That pure liquid whey is either cold filtered or put through an ion exchange filtration method in order to transform the liquid whey into powdered whey protein. Whey protein is a quality protein that is absorbed quickly in the body.

SOURCING

From Farm to Tub
At BPI, all our whey is sourced from milk that comes from a family dairy farm in Wisconsin. The consistency of the raw materials is what helps us maintain such a high standard for quality. It is important to us that our whey comes from a sustainable farm where the cows are treated ethically and kept in “happy” conditions.
Do Happy Cows Really Make Better Milk?
This isn’t just something we say in our videos to make people smile, this is a real scientific fact. According to a 2016 study, daily infusions of serotonin were shown to increase calcium levels in the milk of cows. Serotonin is the naturally-occurring chemical in the brain associated with feelings of happiness.1

happy cow

FILTRATION

BPI’s Cold Filtration vs. Ion Exchange Filtration
The pure liquid whey is transported from the cheese manufacturer to a protein manufacturing facility, where it is pasteurized, then filtered. There are essentially two choices available for filtering whey: cold filtration and ion exchange filtration.
Cold filtration is time consuming and expensive, but it results in a purer form of whey protein – free of harsh chemical additives and with all its naturally occurring micronutrients intact. To get just one 5 lbs. container of finished whey protein powder, it takes 720 lbs. of raw liquid whey. The cold filtration process starts by sending the raw product through miles of stainless steel tubing fitted with ceramic filters. This natural, cold-temperature filtration system separates the protein from the fats and the lactose, while adding no harsh chemicals and taking away none of the nutrients. BPI Sports’ final product is 90% whey isolate powder. The quality is verified for protein content before being bagged in its raw form, blended into finished protein powder and put into sanitized tubs.
Ion exchange filtration costs companies five times less than the cold filtration process but it does have substantial drawbacks. Ion exchange reduces micronutrients and denatures the protein. The chemical reagents used, like hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, denatures the protein and degrades amino acids and micronutrients.

QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR QUALITY PROTEIN

Quality Testing vs. The ChromaDex® Seal
“Testing” is a buzz word and just one component of a true quality assurance program. When a company claims a product has been tested, it does not mean that the final product is of high quality or good manufacturing practice (cGMP) compliant. In contrast, having the ChromaDex® Quality Verified Seal on your product is like winning an Olympic gold medal for quality. It is internationally renowned and respected. ChromaDex® conducts quality tests during each critical stage of manufacture and packaging of BPI proteins. Testing representative samples of both raw materials and finished products throughout the manufacturing process ensures the authenticity, consistency and quality of ingredients.

CERTIFICATION

Third-party Verification by ChromaDex®
ChromaDex® uses a meticulous inspection program and analytical testing that covers FDA and cGMP, as well as quality assurance and quality control testing. ChromaDex® ensures each product that goes through the verification program is in fact 100% verified for everything that is listed on the label.
  1. cGMP Compliance: This step audits the manufacturing facilities and process used to create each individual product.
  2. Quality Assurance (QA) Support: A critical review of the collected data by an expert QA team to support cGMP compliance.
  3. Quality Control Testing: Vital for complete verification, this step tests for contaminants including heavy metals, residual solvents and microbials.
  4. Regulatory Review: This is a detailed analytical review of all product labels for ingredients, claims, safety and toxicology.

TRUE TRANSPARENCY

From Farm, to Shelf, to You
When the process is tightly controlled, the materials are rigorously tested and the results are independently verified, you end up with a product worthy of your trust. At BPI, the gold ChromaDex® seal represents more than just a badge of quality. It symbolizes our commitment to you. We will always go the extra mile to bring you the best quality protein products and supplements to support your health and fitness goals.

The Truth About Cancer-Cancer Survivor Story - Lori Ball - Ovarian Cancer

Lori and Dave’s cancer survivor story began in December of 2015 when Lori was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Lori was a health nut just as her father was, so when she got this news, it rocked their world because they felt they had always eaten right and exercised regularly.

After they received the news, and still being in shock, the doctor suggested that she have surgery. They decided to hold off so they could do more research and try to find a natural cure for ovarian cancer.

During this time, the doctor scheduled ovarian cancer treatment of 6 cycles of chemotherapy for 18 weeks with an IV and IP drip.

Lori and Dave had also been following Ty Bollinger’s and the information from A Global Quest advice and realized that their diet contained too much sugar which could be one of the causes of ovarian cancer.

After the surgery, they switched to an anti-cancer diet where they cut out all carbohydrates among other things.

They also did the PEMF therapy which is pulsed electromagnetic therapy and is popular in East and Western Europe.

Lori is now cancer free and continues her ovarian cancer prevention and healthy living.

Police academy recruits must try not to laugh to pass the "chicken test" And General Law Enforcement Training, Educational Requirements and Job Description

Among the many exercises to test police recruits, the Indiana University Police Academy uses “the Chicken Test” to gauge a cadet’s demeanor. The test is to see if the cadet can remain focused. If they fail, their “punishment” is to hold the plank position.

By: Ryan Sprout

Courses in criminal justice include but are not limited to criminal justice, humanities, ethics, police organization, administration, leadership development, analytic reasoning, and communications. It's very important to keep in mind that it's important to complete and get your high school diploma. If not, continue forward in your education by getting your GED. You can do so by your local adult education center. None the less, it's always better to acquire some years or a four year college education.

The most attractive elements about working as an officer and in the criminal justice field are the routine and scheduling. The possibilities are almost endless with a career in criminal justice and enforcement of laws. A typical day for someone who works in different fields of law enforcement varies depending on the career path you pursue. Generally an enforcement officer may work in the office cubicle of the agency or more exciting in the field. An officer may encounter things differently everyday from keeping a watchful eye on citizens during a political convention, tapping into a phone call of a fugitive or pretending to be a young girl online to lure a pedophile into a sting operation arrest, assisting with a riot or preventing a terrorist crime from happening.

The qualities officers must have are common sense, respect and sense for and of their community, intelligence, mindful of their environment, the courage to make smart decisions when necessary and when to hold back and stay calm, be educated, stay grounded and be realistic about the career field they are in. For those inspired to pursue a career in criminal justice enforcement; the financial and job security are well in place. More importantly, the kickback and personal reward of helping people, saving lives, and keeping the community safe when stressful or dangerous situations arise.

4 Ways to Bring Back (or Spark) the LOVE Once Held for Church

By: Janice Johnson

Be credible. It all starts with credibility. A long time ago credibility was based on how many degrees you had on your wall and how many letters followed your name. That’s not the case today – Web 2.0 has changed everything and if you want to succeed in reaching more people with your message or THE message you’ll need to know and embrace these 4 steps to creating credibility in the eyes of those you’re called to reach.

1.Remarkable Results. Work for excellence. Our work should not be half-hearted or bootleg. Credibility’s main foundation is our ability to create and provide excellent products, services and experiences!

2.Create. Credibility is best built through extraordinary experiences. Your ministry is not known (or valued) because of your logo, letterhead, liturgy, landing page, or landscape rather it’s the experience your ministry creates for the audience you serve that matters most.

3.Capture. You’ve created the experience—now what? Capture it! What good is an experience if no one knows it ever occurred? Here are a few ways to capture experiences:

a. Personal testimonials

b. Photos

c. Audios

d. Videos

4. Share. It’s impossible to increase your "credibility factor" or influence more lives without sharing the good news. However, there is a sharing rule—only share the results, experiences, breakthroughs—you know the "good stuff". You know the "I once was blind now I see" kind of stories. Do not share your degree, pedigree, building size, new ring or new suit. No one cares!

Bringing back the love—or even creating a "like" for the church begins with establishing credibility. Embracing the above principles will help you not only allow you to gain credibility—I let you in on a secret—they will help you expand your reach!

Your expansion next steps:

• What results does your ministry bring to the lives of those you serve?
• How do you currently capture those results?
• What have you been sharing about your ministry?

Janice Johnson, the Ministry Marketing Mentor, is committed to helping Pastors and Christian leaders impact lives, influence communities, and increase your income without compromising your message. To download your F.R.E.E. Ministry Makeover Kit, visit www.moruwa.com
