God Wants Prosperity for You

by Creflo Dollar | 23 Jul 2019
Money is a number one goal for many people; it’s virtually impossible to go a single day without seeing or reading tips from financial experts on how to accumulate wealth. There seems to be no end to strategies for becoming wealthy, though some of the schemes we see are questionable. Although we may make the mistake of equating being prosperous only with having a big bank account, God actually wants prosperity for us. The prosperity He has in mind is not just our in finances, but in every other area of our lives as well.
To prosper is to succeed, to do well, to be healthy, and to flourish. The world limits the definition of prosperity mainly to monetary terms, but God removes all limitations in this area. “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 1:2). Our souls are where our intellect and emotions reside. Money does us no good if we have emotional issues or our mindset makes us miserable; it’s also useless to us if we’re not physically well enough to enjoy it.
God’s will is to prosper us, but this only happens when we trust Him in everything He tells us. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV). If we put our hope in money, that hope can crumble and blow away. Money doesn’t have the ability to give us a successful and prosperous future—that only comes from God.
Many of us may have developed a love-hate relationship with money. We pursue it constantly and are reluctant to part with it, yet we’re afraid to talk about it or how much it means to us. There’s nothing wrong with having money, but a wrong relationship with it hurts us. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10). Money is notoriously undependable; having more faith in what it can do than in what God can do will eventually backfire on us.
Giving is one area that greatly influences our level of prosperity. Sadly, many churches shy away from teaching the connection between giving and prosperity, because of the fear of what others will think. We can actually determine how financially blessed we will be by how generously we give. “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38). When we joyfully open our hands to give, they will be open to receive blessings in return.
God is well aware of how much we need money. He wants to bless us with it, but we need to get our priorities straight, first. That means going against what others think is sensible, and putting Him above everything else.“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). Trusting in Him more than in material wealth opens the door to blessings on every level.
