Law enforcement is a hugely rising sector, with new opportunities being added consistently. Do the work and get a degree from a recognized criminal justice school and you open the door to many different opportunities. Take a look at these.

You could find a career at local or state police level. Protect the streets, maintain peace and order, shut down drugs and gang crime. Some may choose to take the route of detectives and investigate crimes by collecting evidence, performing interviews, and making arrests. Or you make prefer SWAT, K-9, sheriff or deputy sheriff.

If you are aiming for the top, consider seeking employment with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, also known as the FBI. They handle all different types of crime that violates federal statutes. This includes drug trafficking; terrorism; fraud; organized crime and serial killers. You'd be handing national security issues, fraud, surveillance and potentially undercover work.

For the fans of DNA swabs, there is the crime lab forensics teams. These are the CSI's made popular by the TV shows. CSI's play a vital role in bringing criminals to justice. Match shell casings to the firearm used, use DNA to identify a suspect, look at fingerprints, or examine bloodstain patterns, and much more.

Should you want to work in the private sector of law enforcement, there is the field of private investigation. The same skills a detective uses are also the same skills a P.I. uses. Such as interviewing, collecting evidence, and surveillance. As a P.I. though, most of the available work is in insurance fraud, protection roles, cheating spouses, and child custody battles.

These are but a few of the exciting careers you could have after obtaining a degree from criminal justice school. And certain degree programs can be completed online. For many of these jobs, however, be prepared for extra schooling and on-the-job training requirements.
