When her husband was diagnosed, Susie left her job and became his full-time caregiver. He lived 11 months. And it was only 3 months after the doctors declared him “cancer free” that he died. In deep grief, Susie struggled through. The memories of her husband withering away before her eyes were still vivid. Five months later, she started to experience symptoms and her doctor ordered a CAT scan. That’s when they found that she, too, had pancreatic cancer. Putting together a medical team and moving to stay with her daughter in California, Susie worked hard to “wage hope” during this difficult time. She followed her doctor’s recommended pancreatic cancer treatment: chemotherapy and radiation.
