Lincoln Lady Lions Drop Bowie State’s Lady Bulldogs 74-65





LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Junior Ti-Nita Baker (Houston, Miss.) scored a career-high 39 points, but Bowie State University falls 74-65 to The Lincoln University on Saturday afternoon.

Courtney Smith (Washington, D.C.) and Zephrah Pam (Syracuse, N.Y.) paced the Lincoln Lady Lions with 20 points each while Jailen Murphy (Nashville, Tenn.) chipped in 11 points.

The Lady Lions opened the game with a 10-0 run on to have Bowie State rally to pull even at 12-all with just over 12 minutes to go in the first half.  Lincoln responded with an 8-0 run but BSU junior Ty-Nita Baker (Houston, Miss.) stopped the run.

Lincoln (17-5, 9-3 CIAA, 5-1 North) led by as much as 12 in the first half and went into intermission with a 34-25 advantage. Smith paced the Lady Lions with a dozen first half points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.

As a team, Lincoln made 13-of-28 first period field goals (46.4 percent), which included 3-of-8 three pointers (37.5 percent) and 5-of-14 (35.7 percent) at the free throw line.

Bowie State shot 39.3 percent (11-of-28) over the first 20 minutes. The Lady Bulldogs made 2-of-5 beyond the arc (40 percent) but just 1-of-4 (25 percent) at the charity stripe.

Lady Bulldogs opened the second half with an 8-3 run to pull even at 37-all following a fast break layup by Naylor, forcing a Lincoln timeout.

Lincoln came out of the timeout inspired, running off 11 straight points by the 11:03 mark, forcing Bowie State to burn a 30 second timeout.

Bowie State narrowed the deficit down to eight by the 2:51 mark of the final half of play, but would get no closer.

Naylor added nine points and tied for game-high rebound honors with 11 rebounds. Junior Sheldeed Joseph (Belair St. Vincent and the Grenadines, W.I.) contributed eight points and freshman Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.) added four points.

The Lady Bulldogs return to the court Wednesday (2/11), making a trip to historic Barco-Stevens Hall to take on the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union at 5:30 pm.
