Lady Bulldogs Bowling Records Perfect 10-0 Record at CIAA Round-Up
LAUREL, Md. – The Bowie State University women's bowling team finished with a perfect 10-0 record following the conclusion of the CIAA Bowling Round-Up held February 13-14 at AMF Laurel Lanes. The competition only consisted of two days of team matches. The third and final day of baker’s matches were cancelled due to inclement weather. COMPLETE RESULTS ATTACHED
All CIAA bowling institutions competed in the event, five from each division. The Lady Bulldogs went unbeaten against the five teams from the Southern Division and claimed first place out of the CIAA Northern Division schools with a total pin fall of 8,721.
Virginia State placed second overall with a 9-1 record followed by Elizabeth City State in third (8-2), Chowan fourth (6-4) and Fayetteville State rounded out the top five with a 5-5 record.
Virginia Union claimed 6th place (5-5) while St. Augustine’s (4-6) and Shaw (2-8) finished 7th and 8th respectively. Johnson C. Smith finished in 9thplace with a 1-9 record and Livingstone rounded out the field at 0-10.
Bowie State breezed by Livingstone College in their opening match of the weekend by a score of 930-678. In matches two and three versus Saint Augustine’s University and Fayetteville State University, Bowie State recorded identical scores of 884. The Lady Bulldogs conquered SAU’s Lady Falcons 884-760 and squeezed out an 884-848 win against FSU’s Lady Broncos. Host Bowie State knocked off Shaw University 769-673 and posted a convincing 844-686 victory over Johnson C. Smith University to close out opening day.
Livingstone was the first team to fall to Bowie State on day two as the Lady Bulldogs punished the Lady Blue Bears 910-653. BSU crushed Johnson C. Smith 935-616 and followed that with an 877-648 whitewash of Shaw. Fayetteville State gave Bowie State their toughest match on Saturday, but the Lady Bulldogs edged the Lady Broncos 868-865. Bowie State finished day two with an 820-718 decision over Saint Augustine’s.
Senior Shayla Lightfoot (Henrico, Va.) finished with the second-highest average of all bowlers in each division. Lightfoot wrapped up the Round-Up with a team-high 183.40 average, which included a high-game of 210. Senior Ambrianna Bankston (Ft. Belvoir, Va.) ranked second on the team with a 179.67 average and a team-high game of 220.
Redshirt freshman Sierra Davis (Dayton, Ohio) rolled three 200+ games and averaged 178.78 over nine games. Keyandra Bankston (Ft. Belvoir, Va.) tallied 1551 total pins over nine games for a 172.33 average while junior Ashley Wade (Richmond, Va.) closed the weekend with a 166.10 average. Makyra Bankston (Ft. Belvoir, Va.) participated in three games, averaging 149.67 for the Lady Bulldogs.
Bowie State will return to the lanes on March 13-15 in Fayetteville, N.C. for CIAA North/South Event III.
