iHealthTube Featuring: Understand the Ketogenic Diet

Get our free email newsletter here! http://www.ihealthtube.com/content/ne... Both the ketogenic and paleo diets have become increasingly popular. Here, Dr. Nasha Winters discusses the similarities and differences between the two. She also clears up confusion between the keto diet and other popular diet fads.

The Reason Why "Diets" Don't Work
By: Anthony Cello
[From Spring 2018]
Summer is right around the corner. (Or in some parts of the world already here) All the gyms in your area are filling back up after the hiatus since January. Your coworkers, family members, and friends all tell you about the latest diet they are on. They have gone Vegan, Keto, or are have begun a 21-Day Fix, and will not stop bragging about how much weight they have lost. Here you are, trying your best to make smart choices, going to the gym when you find the time, and yet nothing seems to be happening. Your clothes fit the same, your energy levels are the same, and you are frustrated. You begin to think, maybe I need to get on a diet as well.

Believe me when I say this; you are not alone. After being an elite health and fitness coach for years, I have heard and seen it all. I've witnessed every last trend, fad, diet, etc. but most of all, client frustrations. I have seen people go on x or y diet for a month or two, lose a lot of weight, and then gain it all back and some a few months later. Have you seen this before too? Maybe this happened to you as well.

As I said before, you are not alone. Psychologyofeating.com states that 95% of all dieters will regain the weight they lose within one year. Not to mention, an estimated 45 million Americans go on a diet each year, and Americans spend $33 billion each year on weight loss products. Yet, nearly two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, according to the Boston Medical Center. Something is not right, and is not working.

So what is the answer? For starters, "dieting" is not the answer. To get fit, lose weight, and keep it off for good, a complete lifestyle change must be implemented. This means the way we eat, the way we exercise, and the way we sleep must be harmonious with how we live. We must think of eating healthy foods as a way to have energy. We must think of exercising as a way to keep our bodies strong, functioning at optimal capacity, and improving our heart health…you know, the thing that keeps us alive! Lastly, we must think of our sleeping habits as a way for our body to shut down and undergo all the processes that we want it to, like you guessed it, lose weight! (Seriously, get to bed- it's important).

If dieting hasn't worked for you yet, or maybe it has, but you'd like a more reasonable approach long-term, start by changing your lifestyle. Implement walks after dinner or on lunch break. Hire a trainer if you have the means to do so. Start clearing the fridge and pantry of any food product that has more than 3 ingredients (you will be shocked). Lastly, start shutting down electronics and getting to bed an hour earlier each night. Small changes lead to big changes over time. Stay consistent and realize this process will take longer than that short-term diet, but will reward you in the long run.

I Spent A Day With Border Patrol Agents At The US-Mexico Border

Business Insider reporter and photographer Daniel Brown recently spent a day riding along with US Border Patrol agents. He got an inside look at the busiest sector of the US-Mexico border.

Following is a transcript of the video: [Full Video Below] Daniel Brown: I was recently down in McAllen, Texas, down in the Rio Grande Valley, to cover the immigration crisis that's been going on. I reached out to the Border Patrol for that sector and tried to get a ride-along. Finally, they granted it. US Border Patrol Agent: The Rio Grande Valley Sector accounts for about 40% of the apprehensions in the United States. McAllen Station specifically is about 20% of the entire nation, and we catch about 300 individuals a day just in this 50-mile span of border.

When it comes to defending yourself and your family from an attacker there is no such thing as a fair fight!
The coward attacker that blind-sides you in the parking lot doesn’t believe in a fair fight, and neither should you!
That’s why you need to arm yourself with this free, totally legal tool that can drop an attacker in an instant!
Like I said, it’s free!  But you need to get your name down now because there’s a limited supply!
This self-defense tool has been the number #1 selling “Every Day Carry” in America since Feb 2016 and it’s now your chance to get one for free!
I’ve already told my friends and family to get theirs and I urge you to claim one too.
Brown: They first took me on a boat, just drove up and down the Rio Grande. They're looking for crossers. Most people cross on rafts or boats. There are just some deflated rafts on the side of the coast there. That's from people crossing over. We get off periodically, and just take little trails, and walk around. A lot of times they would look for tracks and see some faint ones, be like, okay, we know someone passed through here a couple days ago, or a day ago, or something like that. Their main job is, obviously, to keep the border safe and to apprehend people who are crossing illegally. But also, as they told me, it's a humanitarian mission as well, you know. Whether it's Mexicans or Americans, or any other citizen of the world who's passing through, they wanna try to keep those people safe. US Border Patrol Agent: That's kinda one of the difficulties of the job is you have to switch on and off from humanitarian mission to, is this guy trying to take your life? Brown: Border Patrol agents are killed, are shot at, they find dead bodies a lot, they experience, witness a lot of trauma. One agent who operates mostly on the boats, he said that sometimes they'll find a raft or a little boat trying to get across, and they'll be packed with 10 or more people, or something like that. Sometimes they'll just throw a kid off into the water just 'cause they know that the agents will go for the kid right away to save 'em. We went up and down along the river there for a while. We ran into a lot of sugar cane. It's very dense, and they were talking about the difficulties of tracking people through that, how a lot of times people can just run into that and they'll just never find 'em, even if they have dogs. US Border Patrol Agent: You cordon off this field and try to surround it, even when we have a canine assist come in so that the dog can follow and smell the people, he gets overloaded. So, it's a big, big challenge, the sugar cane. Brown: After that, we drove around for a little bit, a lot of stray dogs walking around. And the agents even said they use the dogs sometimes to kind of decipher if someone's in the area. US Border Patrol Agent: These dogs at times will give you a heads up, because with experience you start to see that they weren't barking before, but then they began to bark, so they'll kinda give you a little heads up that somebody's in the area or something's in the area. Brown: The people that live along the borders, I spoke to some of them who have people crossing through their property, who've been there for years, and it happens almost daily, and they'll ruin their crops. I met one family who's shot people who cross into their property. Those landowners, when I went and visited them, they said to come back in a few hours, and I did, and that's when they told me, "Oh, you missed it." And then they drove me out on their little four wheeler and showed me the tracks. Those tracks were like an hour old when I took 'em. A lot of these people that are crossing over illegally or going to ports of entry, they've had tough lives, and they're trying to escape violence, they're trying to get a better life. And that's something that I think that we should realize and understand as a country. But at the same time, you know, people, like the Border Patrol agents, their lives are at risk sometimes. People on all sides of the issue are going through tough things sometimes, and I think we need to see all aspects of that.

Don't Underestimate Your Prayers

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
1 Timothy 2:1-2

That verse is clear, isn’t it? The instruction is plain. Yet even in these tumultuous days when our nation is so desperately in need of God’s guidance, most of God’s people don’t do what that verse commands.
Why not?
I believe it’s because most of us are overwhelmed by the problems we see around us. How could my prayers make a dent in the national debt? we think. How could my faith affect foreign policy?
In other words, we fail to pray because we fail to realize just how powerfully our prayers can affect this country.
It’s time we caught hold of that. It’s time we realized that if we’d just be obedient to 1 Timothy 2:1-2, there’s no council of any kind on earth, no king, no president, no congress, no anything that could overthrow God’s purpose for His people.
God has called us to intercede. He has commanded us to pray for those in authority. He has given us His Word, His power, His Name, His authority and His faith. We have all the tools necessary to pray effectively for our government and its leaders.
I urge you to intercede. It is your responsibility as a believer to get involved in the affairs of your country. God wants this great land of ours, and the only way He’s going to get it is through His ambassadors—you and me.
Pray for your nation. Every day. And never again underestimate the world-changing power of those prayers.

Minding Your Business-How to Write an Award-winning Business Plan

Presented On US Sports Net By Yahoo Small Business!
By: Thomas Muller

So you have decided to become an entrepreneur. Hopefully, you have put into consideration everything you need to do to succeed. As a business owner and leader, you will always need to raise funds. And this is not something you are going to delegate. You will have to make your pitches to deep-pocketed investors from time to time. Convincing investors to give you the money you need to grow your business demands award-winning business plan writing skills.

Do You Know how to Write a Business Plan?

Everyone who wishes to make it in the world of business is an eternal student. They are always learning new things and acquiring new skills. If you are clueless about how to write a business plan that wins investors' approval, you have come to the right place. It is not rocket science; you can hack it if you are willing and diligent. Here is how to do it:

Show the Investors there is Market for Your Product

Investors are not interested in the technical features of your product or its attractiveness. They prefer investing in market-driven rather than service-driven or technology-driven companies. Your job is to show them that there is a market for your product and that you can make enough sales and profits. Demonstrate to these smart people your product's user benefits. Finally, your presentation needs to show there is market interest; be sure to document your market claims.

Address the Needs of Your Prospective Investors

Once you have made a convincing case for your market penetration, make financial projections. Projections determine whether investors will want to evaluate your venture. Also, projections guide them as they make commitments and decide on the price at which the funds become available to you. Make every effort to show them how they will cash out. Your plan needs to demonstrate how investors will liquidate their holdings. They want to know whether you plan to sell the company at some point, take it public, or buy their holdings. If you have an accepted product in a proven market and also have a competent management team, you are highly likely to win.

Your Business Plan Should Reflect Your Business

Picking a template and filling in the blanks does not work. Investors understand that a plan is a distillation of the essentials that make a venture what is. When writing your document, focus more on the content than you do on the format. Ensure that your plan extensively covers every aspect of your venture so that investors can make an informed decision. Always remember that capital owners do not care much about how attractive your product or document is. They are only interested in the soundness of your business idea. Demonstrate you can help investors make money, and they will let you keep their money for now.

Do you have a market-accepted product with a proven market? Do you have the right people to help you execute your plan? Package your idea in a way that appeals to investors.

New Vitamin C and Citrus Juices
By: Suzanne Houston

Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is one of the most vital vitamins found in citrus juices, including juice. First Significant. The body only soaks up 5% of vitamins from tablets or pills the rest is sent down the toilet. Discover how you can absorb 98%. Glance at the bottom of this page.

Testing for vitamin C levels in different forms of orange is also a favorite science project for many scholars. Thanks to the limited available references on vitamin C levels in citrus juices and how it degrades over time , this web site will try to provide some info on the topic to help students find additional references for their science projects.

Vitamin C. Regularly projects find that orange juices made of frozen concentrated orange ( FCOJ ) have the highest vitamin C levels in comparison to freshly squeezed or not-from-concentrate ( NFC ) juices. This is because of the fact that vitamin C degrades over time in fresh and NFC, but does not degrade as much in FCOJ due to it being frozen until reconstitution. If you're comparing a NFC product which has been stored for roughly three weeks vs a newly reconstituted FCOJ, the FCOJ would surely have a higher vitamin C concentration.

Also one more thing to consider is if the FCOJ is reconstituted to the same strength as fresh or NFC. If one doesn't add enough water, then the vitamin C ( and other compounds ) would be more concentrated. Another thing to be considered is that the vitamin C content changes thru the crop season and orange variety also plays a part. Since most FCOJ is blended to a larger extent than some NFCs, it is wholly possible that the NFC is produced from a variety / season which has lower vitamin C content.

According to Nagy and Smoot, temperature and storage time affects the percent of vitamin C content of orange fruits and orange juice. Alternative types of oranges also have different levels of vitamin C. The mid-season variety, Pineapple Orange had the highest levels, followed by the key early-season variety, Hamlin Orange. The late-season Valencia Orange had the lowest vitamin C content. In addition, it was discovered that the longer the Valencia Orange fruit stayed on the tree, the lower the vitamin C level. ( Additional details on these orange kinds can be found from links in

The story of Florida Juice - from the Grove to Your Glass. ) Nagy and Smoot also found that in orange juice containers, vitamin C loss was due to oxidation by a residual air layer surrounded within the container during processing. The loss was faster in the first two weeks and was more clear at higher storage temperatures. orange must be kept cool to prevent vitamin C degradation as it is sped up at high storage temperatures. .

Family Medicine Chest
By: David Crawford

Among the strange items found in a half-dozen family medicine chests were old cloths to be used as bandages, cracked atomizer bulbs, horehound candy, shoehorns, curling irons, dried sponges, packages of seeds, hair grease, mange cure, face bleach, shoe polish, empty tooth paste and shaving cream tubes, fifty different remedies for colds, combs for permanent waves, bobby pins, the remaining partners of divorced cuff links, nail polish, bath salts, and discarded sets of teeth.

The number of antiseptics found, and their efficiency, varied tremendously. One or two antiseptics were found in some cases, and as many as six different antiseptics in others, individual members of the family having their own likes and dislikes in these matters.

A household remedy should be one with a certain definite action, and usually it should contain but one active ingredient. If the thing is worth keeping in the medicine chest it should be something which is used fairly frequently.

Dangerous poisons have no place in the family medicine chest. A dangerous poison is one which is likely to produce serious symptoms or death if taken in even moderate amounts.

The wise person will go over the family medicine chest at least once every three months and discard all materials not constantly in use. It is also well to have the family doctor take a look at the materials, offer his advice on those worth keeping, and make suggestions as to what is needed.

Suitable Items For Medicine Chests

Most families want to keep on hand a laxative or cathartic. Under certain circumstances any laxative or cathartic may be exceedingly dangerous, most conspicuously in appendicitis. Appendicitis is at first just an infected spot on a little organ which extends from the large bowel and which, apparently, has no serious function in the human body. If this infection develops, as a boil develops from a pimple, it is in danger of bursting and spreading throughout the body. Therefore, no laxative or cathartic should ever be taken when the abdomen is exceedingly painful.

Most modem women prefer to keep their cosmetics in their own boudoirs, but the man of the house is likely to put his into the family medicine cabinet. They should include, in most instances, a razor, which should be kept in its box and not permitted to lie around loose, also some shaving soap or cream, some face lotion, which may be either witch hazel or a special lotion which he prefers.

Antiseptics

Among the antiseptics approved by the Council on Pharmacy and Chemistry are preparations of hexylresorcinol and preparations of metaphen, also merthiolate, zephiran, cepryl, and neutral solutions of chlorinated soda and hydrogen peroxide. The Council has not approved antiseptics commonly represented as being useful in the relief of all sorts of infections of the throat and also for the prevention of various types of infectious diseases, including colds.

One of the best old-fashioned antiseptic solutions for common use around the home is boric-acid solution. Most people prefer to have packages of crystals of boric acid or of the powder and to make up the solution fresh just before use.

First Aid

In these days when everybody takes the chance of needing emergency first-aid treatment, because of the use of the automobile and wide indulgence in sports and gardening, it is well to have first-aid supplies in the family medicine chest. Among the materials needed are adhesive tape of various widths, sterile cotton, sterile gauze bandages, sterile gauze pads, and a scissors which should be kept in the medicine chest exclusively for such purposes. You should also have the ready-made combination of a piece of adhesive tape with a tiny piece of sterilized bandage, that can be used to cover small wounds after they have been treated with iodine or mercurochrome.

Most people should know that the proper way to stop bleeding of small wounds is simply to press upon them with a sterile piece of gauze.

In cases of very serious wounds affecting arteries, and thereby difficult to control, it may be necessary to put a tourniquet around the limb. The tourniquet should be fastened just tight enough to stop the bleeding. An ordinary piece of rubber tubing or a narrow towel tied and twisted with a stick will serve most purposes satisfactorily..

The family medicine chest may also contain aromatic spirits of ammonia, which is sometimes given when a prompt stimulant is needed, following fainting. Half a teaspoonful in water, for a sudden fainting spell, is a fairly safe thing to give in most cases of this emergency.

It is not advisable to use a styptic in the form of a stick of alum to stop slight bleeding after shaving. Much better are any of the astringent surgical powders, of which a small amount may be taken from the box on each occasion and applied directly to the bleeding point.

Finally, any good talcum powder may be used after shaving and after bathing, according to the individual preferences of the users.

It is taken for granted that every modem household has a good clinical thermometer, a hot water bottle, and an ice bag. These are three exceedingly useful devices in any home, and when they are available in an emergency the comfort they give is tremendous.

In addition to the materials used for first aid, most families will have bedpans for use in cases of illness, glass drinking-tubes, syringes for giving enemas, atomizers, and sometimes special devices for creating steam to be medicated with small amounts of tincture of benzoin for relief in various forms of hoarseness or other conditions affecting the larynx and the lungs.

Taking Medicine

Medicines rightly used can be of immense aid and comfort to the afflicted; wrongly used, they may cause serious damage to the human body. When a doctor prescribes medicines for a patient, they are for that particular patient and not for anybody else in the family.

When you measure out the medicine think of what you are doing and pay no attention to anything else. Medicines are usually prescribed in dosages of drops, teaspoons, fractions of teaspoons, and spoons of larger sizes. Because spoons are nowadays in many fanciful shapes and sizes, each family should have a medicine glass with measures of various spoons recorded. When a doctor prescribes a certain number of drops they should be measured with a medicine dropper and not by guesswork.

If liquid medicine is being prescribed the bottle should be thoroughly shaken each time before the medicine is measured. Most medicine should be mixed with a little water when taken, but sometimes the medicine may be put in the mouth and washed down with a swallow of water. Pills and capsules should either be handed to the patient from the original package, so that he may help himself, put the pill or capsule on the back of the tongue, and wash it down with a drink of water, or else be brought to the patient on a spoon, so that he may take the pill or capsule from the spoon. The person waiting on the patient should not carry the capsules or pills in the palm of the hand, where they may be softened or disintegrated by moisture or contaminated from the hands.
