Bowie State Women’s Basketball Drops Top-Seeded Fayetteville State in Overtime

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Fourth-seeded Bowie State University outscored Fayetteville State University 13-5 in overtime, taking a 72-64 win over the top-seeded Broncos in the quarterfinals of the 2018 CIAA Tournament at Bojangles’ Coliseum on Wednesday evening.

This game marked the 12th time the Bulldogs and Lady Broncos have met in the CIAA Tournament and Bowie State holds a 7-4 advantage.

Fayetteville State got on the scoreboard first, but the long ball was working early for Bowie State. Proctor and Jing knocked down triples they helped the Bulldogs jump out to an early 10-6 lead by the first under five-minute media timeout. Both team struggled to generate points following the timeout with Bowie State leading 13-11 after 10 minutes thanks to a layup by BSU freshman Talanya Hutton (Seat Pleasant, Md.) as time expired.

The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 18-11 before the Broncos responded with an 8-0 to take a 19-18 lead. However, Bowie State answered with a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 25-19 and led 28-21 at the 5:45 mark of the second quarter.

A pair of free throws by FSU sophomore Shantel Bennett followed by a Noni Kumba (Tracy, Calif.) trimmed Bowie State’s lead down to three (28-25). Bowie State’s Williams stuck a jumper only to have Fayetteville State score the last five points, capped off by a 3-point heave by senior Breona Jones (Henderson, N.C.), sending the teams into halftime tied at 30-all.

The Broncos shot 42.9 percent from the field over the first half of play, making 12-of-28 shots compared to 34.5 percent (10-of-29) for the Bulldogs. Bowie State out-rebounded Fayetteville State 24-16 with Williams hauling down eight to lead both teams.

Fayetteville State opened the second half with four unanswered points before the a Colston jumper stopped the mini-run.

Sophomore Danaisha Christian (Pocomoke, Md.) knocked down a shot baseline jumper to cut the Bulldogs deficit to 36-35 just prior to the under-five media time out in the third quarter. Graduate student Sade Chatman (Minneapolis, Minn.) made one of two free throws to tie the game at 36-all and jumper in paint by Proctor gave the lead back to Bowie State at 38-36.

The BSU lead didn’t last long as Kuumab drilled a triple in front of the Broncos bench to give the lead back to Fayetteville State at 39-38. Back-to-back field goals by Chi Chi Madeuebgunam (Charlotte, N.C.) and Jones gave the Lady Broncos at 43-39. FSU’s Jones converted two free throws that enabled Fayetteville State to take a 45-39 after three quarters.

Bowie State’s Christian hot a pair of free throws and Jing followed with baseline jumper to pull the Bulldogs within two at 45-43 to start the fourth quarter. Redshirt junior Pere Alexander (Baltimore, Md.) tied the game at 46-all at the 7:02 mark.

Williams was fouled on a layup and completed the three-point play to shift the advantage over the Bowie State’s Bulldogs at 49-46.

The Broncos used a 13-4 burst to take a 59-53 lead with just under three minutes remaining in the game only to see the Bulldogs close the gap to 59-57 after a Chatman layup with 1:36 remaining.

Colston made one of two free throws to tie the game at 59-all with 41 seconds and the score remained tied, creating overtime.

Proctor drilled a three from the wing to begin overtime and Williams knocked down a pair of free throws to give Bowie State the 64-59 lead.

Bennett gave Fayetteville State its first two points of the overtime via a pair of free throws and Best followed with one of two free throws with 2:16 left to cut the Bulldogs lead to 64-62.

With time running down on the shot clock, Colston banked a straight away 3-pointer, was fouled on the play and made the free throw for the 68-62 advantage.

Following an FSU miss, Sade Chatman knocked down a free throw to extend the lead to 69-62 with 1:13 to play.  Fayetteville State would then commit a costly turnover that led to two more free throws, this time by Lisa Jing, making it 71-62.

Another Bronco turnover ended with another Chatman free throw to end the BSU scoring.  FSU’s Shaiquanda James provided the 72-64 final with a jumper with 21 seconds remaining, as BSU ran out the clock to take the upset win.

Fayetteville State (16-9) was paced by Shantel Bennett, as she had a game-high 20 points. Teammate Noni Kuumba had 15 points while Courtney Best secured a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  FSU shot 42.6% from the field (23-of-54) while BSU shot just 33.9% (21-of-62).

Bowie State had two players post double-doubles, with Kyaja Williams netting 16 points and 10 rebounds and Sade Chatman scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.  Kiara Colston and Lisa Jing also had a productive outing, scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The win improves BSU to 19-8 on the season while FSU finishes their year at 16-10 overall.

Bowie State will advance to play the winner of the Winston-Salem State/Virginia State game on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Spectrum Center in Uptown Charlotte.

WEIGHT LOSS COFFEE - How Can I Help?

Lean Trim Diana Here!

Good Morning World!  Today is a very rainy and stormy day up North and it's looking to be that way until the weekend! The wind is blowing, I would guess, about 25 mph. The house doesn't feel too cold, but I know it is cold outside. In the mountains, about a 40 min. drive, they are getting snow and we do need the rain and snow. Haven't had too much this winter.

I am sitting here drinking a hot cup of our weight loss cocoa with our Keto Creamer.. Yum, it is soooo good! Yes, with our Keto Creamer because I want my system to be super charged and be in a fat-burning mode. I am seeing the inches come off me. I can actually see my ribs again!!! I am hoping by weekend, I will be 20 lbs down. Oh, I can't wait. When I moved here some 20 yrs ago, I was in a size 7 pant. I've gone up to a 16 pant and now I am back in a size 12 pant, Whoop Whoop! Throughout those 20 yrs. I have steadily gained. I've always tried to keep my weight in check and I've tried most of the diets and pills out there. Some cost a little and 1 supplement, shake, cleanse diet cost me $300 a MONTH! Wine or any drink always put an extra 5 lbs on me for 1 silly glass. Oh yes it does and that was at holidays. Because of that, I don't drink any alcoholic beverages at all. Yip, boring, but I would rather keep my weight down, then take 1 drink of any kind, and gain another 5 lbs.

When a multi-millionaire friend of mine that made most of his money in the "Network Marketing" business called me and told me I had to get into this global weight loss coffee as a distributor, I said "No I don't". You see Network Marketing is a 182 Billion dollar a year profession. 17 Million in the USA alone are in a Network Marketing business. So Network Marketing is BIG business because people need an extra residual income.) Scott said "Yes you do; it is weight loss coffee and everyone is losing weight! It's a Win Win. Everyone drinks coffee and most everyone wants to lose weight". I had just put on another 4 lbs in the last 3 months and was looking for a weight loss program to try to lose weight, so I said "Ok, tell me about this weight loss coffee". When Scott was done explaining, my gut told me "this sound very simple to do. I can lose weight, help others do the same and I can make an extra income too"! So I told Scott I was late for an appointment and here is my credit card. Put me in as a Business Builder as that position allows me to get top pay 7 ways. I've never done that before; got in a business (I've been in several in a 20 yr period) over the phone and given out my credit card. But you see, I saw this weight loss coffee as a real winner and I would lose weight too.

I've never been happier and so glad I didn't miss this opportunity to lose weight, help others get healthy, and make an income. Everyone is different, but when my products came and I tried the coffee, in the morning an hour before I ate. Ot my surprise and delight, I was NOT hungry ALL day. My coffee suppressed my hunger, I stopped snacking, I stopped wanting sweets and I was in control of my eating. I could look at sweets, foods and say "I really don't want and need that". I've never, ever been able to do that in my lifetime and I've struggled with my weight since I was 14 yrs old.

So that is a little about me and my weight loss journey. I hope you don't pass this opportunity to lose weight and get healthy. This coffee has change my life (I know, that is what everyone says, but it is true) and I am losing weight and inches, helping others lose and get healthy and earning a residual income!

Here is my direct link www.leantrimcoffee.com where you can read all about the products and order as a customer or be a distributor and order, your choice.  Here is my business link www.leantrimcoffee.biz  where you can watch the 4 minute video and the take the tour and put in your info so you can go to the next screen to read all about our healthy products. I will also get an email that you looked and I can contact you to answer any of your questions.

Have a great prosperous day!

Yahoo Small Business Featuring: People Invest in People -- an Overlooked Aspect of Private Investing

By Joanna Schwartz | Entrepreneur

To say technology has transformed the way people interact with one another, in business and personal contexts, is an understatement. Fifteen years ago, it was unimaginable that people would carry out such a broad array of efforts — applying for jobs, managing finances, looking for romance — on screens rather than in person.
While many activities did migrate online over the last two decades, one sector — involving private investing and capital raising — remained firmly in the land of in-person meetings and handshake introductions.
Related: What Entrepreneurs Need to Know About the Historic Change in General Solicitation Law That Goes Into Effect September 23 (2013)
That changed in late 2013 when Title II of the JOBS Act was implemented, letting members of the public advertise private-investment offerings, through what is called general solicitation. Regulation D’s Rule 506© is giving entrepreneurs direct, public access to accredited investors through online portals like that of my company, EarlyShares.
The ubiquity of online interaction has led many capital-raising entrepreneurs to some dangerous assumptions — that the web can easily turn anonymous parties into long-term partners and that capturing investors’ attention is more important than acquiring their trust.
But increased access doesn’t always equate with converting prospects into investors. When pursuing an online capital raising, entrepreneurs (often filled with excitement and confidence about their companies) can overestimate their offerings’ potential. Take a look at some typical (misguided) assumptions of entrepreneurs:
Related: 10 Mistakes to Avoid When Pitching Investors (Infographic)
Viral nature: “My company has great press coverage and a large social media following. If potato salad can go viral, so can my investment.”
Mass appeal: “The media says investors are clamoring for growth opportunities in my industry. My business falls right into that category.”
Immediacy: “This is a disruptive innovation. When people hear about my company, they’re going to want to be a part of it.”
Such assumptions can lead entrepreneurs to craft their investment offerings in the mold of Kickstarter campaigns. With the goal of generating headline-grabbing attention and earning instant investments, they incorporate flashy product demonstations, make over-the-top revenue projections, inflate market sizes and downplay or ignore the strengths of their competitors — all at the expense of playing up their own entrepreneurial track records and business achievements.

Integrity drives investment decisions

The truth is that while virality, mass appeal and urgency lead campaigns to success in the world of rewards-based crowdfunding, they’re not core tenets of general solicitation efforts. Both fields fall in the family of online fundraising, but crowdfunding and general solicitation are more like cousins than siblings.
Why is this so? The 506© regulation is not a transformative, disruptive change to private finance. It’s an evolution of the traditional capital-formation process. That process was built on relationships, personal introductions and face-to-face meetings — not hype.
Ultimately, when aspects of people’s lives move online, things change but not everything. People apply for jobs online, but employers still check references before bringing hires aboard. Individuals manage their finances online but only with institutions that are trusted. Consumers seek potential mates online but get to know them before committing. Many of the old rules still apply.
Private investors — then and now — invest largely according to what they see in an entrepreneur. A successful appeal is one made to the values that drive investment decisions, and all this relates to the entrepreneur seeking funding, who he or she is, what this individual has accomplished and what he or she is building. Here is a sampling of this kind of thinking and the related questions that an investor might ask:
Related: 5 Questions the Right Investor Will Ask You
Reputation: “What’s your story? Who’s on your team? What partnerships have you established? Who believes in you, and why?”
Track record: “What is your experience in this market? What are your successes? Your failures?”
Traction: “What momentum is behind your business? What are your goals? What progress have you made in reaching them?”
Certainly, grabbing attention is important. With a general solicitation, entrepreneurs need to make investors care about their company and see it as a high-potential opportunity.
Showcase strengths in a compelling way, but do it with integrity. Projections must be realistic, the estimation of market size should be reasonable and any competition acknowledged.
One of the most valuable benefits of general solicitation is its ability to inject greater transparency into the capital-formation process. As an entrepreneur raising capital, embrace that transparency. Overhyping a deal will serve only to cloud investors’ perception of the company’s entrepreneurial merits. They’re investing in the entrepreneur — and an opaque, inauthentic deal is the easiest kind for investors to see right through.

CYCLING: Grand Prix, Samyn 2018 and Triathlon Race Day Tips - From Top Triathlon Coach Richard Laidlow

Triathlon Race Day Tips - From Top Triathlon Coach Richard Laidlow

By: Michelle And Richard Laidlow

1/Once your transition is set up walk through transition 4 times, from swim entry to bike exit and bike entry to run exit. Slowly visualize yourself racing through transition.

2/Sit in transition for 5 mins after you have set up your bike. Watch the people around your transition space set up their transition, make a mental note of their equipment, this will help orientate you during the race.

3/In shorter distance races such as Sprint or Olympic Distance, break two elastic bands and tie them around the top tube of your bike, then place your energy gels underneath the elastic bands so they are easily reachable during the bike segment.

4/Same idea with your Sunglasses which during the rush of transition can easily get forgotten, dropped or trodden on! Place the arms of the sunglasses underneath the bands to hold them securely, then you can wait until you have got yourself into a comfortable position on the bike segment before putting them on.

5/In a Duathlon use two pairs of running shoes one pair for the 1st run and one pair for the 2nd run. This will save time as you will not have to think about where you place your running shoes in T1, as well as then being able to put on sweat free, pre-positioned shoes in T2.

6/The swim is the 1st part of the triathlon so make sure you do 5 to 10 mins of shoulder mobility exercises before getting into the water, whilst doing these exercises it gives you a good opportunity to visualze your whole swim from the start, right through to running into transition and finding your bike.

7/Try to get into the water 10 mins before the start of the race, this will help you get acclimatized to the water temperature, as well as help your orientation of the swim bouys.

8/Stop your goggles steaming up by putting a small amount of washing up liquid or shower gel on your finger tip and rubbing the inside of your goggles, allowing it to dry before the swim start.

9/Always take a big mouthful of water from your race bottle after eating a gel, this helps increase the speed of gastric absorption by diluting the carbohydrate percentage you have just eaten.

10/If the water is cold wear two good swim hats. Pull them well down over your ears thus preventing the cold water from entering your ears. This really does stop that horrible dizzy feeling. If you really suffer with this problem consider wearing earplugs.
