New Vitamin C and Citrus Juices
By: Suzanne Houston
Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is one of the most vital vitamins found in
citrus juices, including juice. First Significant. The body only soaks
up 5% of vitamins from tablets or pills the rest is sent down the
toilet. Discover how you can absorb 98%. Glance at the bottom of this
page.
Testing for vitamin C levels in different forms of orange
is also a favorite science project for many scholars. Thanks to the
limited available references on vitamin C levels in citrus juices and
how it degrades over time , this web site will try to provide some info
on the topic to help students find additional references for their
science projects.
Vitamin C. Regularly projects find that orange
juices made of frozen concentrated orange ( FCOJ ) have the highest
vitamin C levels in comparison to freshly squeezed or
not-from-concentrate ( NFC ) juices. This is because of the fact that
vitamin C degrades over time in fresh and NFC, but does not degrade as
much in FCOJ due to it being frozen until reconstitution. If you're
comparing a NFC product which has been stored for roughly three weeks vs
a newly reconstituted FCOJ, the FCOJ would surely have a higher vitamin
C concentration. Also one more thing to consider is if the FCOJ
is reconstituted to the same strength as fresh or NFC. If one doesn't
add enough water, then the vitamin C ( and other compounds ) would be
more concentrated. Another thing to be considered is that the vitamin C
content changes thru the crop season and orange variety also plays a
part. Since most FCOJ is blended to a larger extent than some NFCs, it
is wholly possible that the NFC is produced from a variety / season
which has lower vitamin C content.
According to Nagy and Smoot,
temperature and storage time affects the percent of vitamin C content of
orange fruits and orange juice. Alternative types of oranges also have
different levels of vitamin C. The mid-season variety, Pineapple Orange
had the highest levels, followed by the key early-season variety, Hamlin
Orange. The late-season Valencia Orange had the lowest vitamin C
content. In addition, it was discovered that the longer the Valencia
Orange fruit stayed on the tree, the lower the vitamin C level. (
Additional details on these orange kinds can be found from links in The
story of Florida Juice - (from the Grove to Your Glass. ) Nagy and Smoot
also found that in orange juice containers, vitamin C loss was due to
oxidation by a residual air layer surrounded within the container during
processing. The loss was faster in the first two weeks and was more
clear at higher storage temperatures. orange must be kept cool to
prevent vitamin C degradation as it is sped up at high storage
temperatures.

On Monday, July 1, 2019, at approximately 12:45
PM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Athens
Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) to investigate an officer
involved shooting. Preliminary information indicates that 2 ACCPD
officers responded to a scene after receiving a 911 call about a male,
later identified as Aaron Hong, age 23, causing a disturbance with a
butcher knife at the River Club Apartments on Macon Highway, Athens, GA.
Hong was using the knife in an aggressive manner and appeared to be
injured himself. When police made contact, Hong immediately confronted
them and began to walk towards officers with the knife in hand.
During the incident, officers provided numerous verbal commands for Hong
to drop the knife. Instead, Hong charged one of the officers with the
knife and the officer fired his weapon multiple times, striking Hong.
Hong managed to get back up and during the confrontation attempted to
grab one of the officer’s weapons. The second officer fired at Hong
multiple times, striking him. Nearby medics responded and Hong died at
the scene. One officer sustained minor injuries and was treated on
scene. Donate to PoliceActivity: https://www.patreon.com/PoliceActivity Borderline Personality Disorder By: Taschant Esceith
(Parental guidance is advised for this article) Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is sometimes misdiagnosed because
other conditions, overlapping with BPD, can confuse the manifestation
of this illness. BPD is an intricate condition and can leave the
sufferer and family members bewildered if not diagnosed properly. The
difficulty with diagnosing BPD is that, not all the symptoms are always
present, and one would generally place the focus on the symptoms
currently causing disturbance in the person’s life (e.g. depression).
The symptoms of BPD can change frequently (rapid cycling), and can also
last for months. BPD generally has nine symptoms which can manifest
themselves in various ways, and at different intervals in a person’s
life. To be diagnosed with BPD one needs at least five of the nine
symptoms (not all BPD's experience them in the same way): 1. FEELINGS OF ABANDONMENT A borderline finds it difficult to self-soothe when they are alone
during times when their mind torments them, causing them to feel
abandoned. They also fear being abandoned during times when they are
anxious. Perceived abandonment can lead to impulsive, explosive
behaviours due to their intense inner turmoil. 2. UNSTABLE RELATIONSHIPS AND SPLITTING Splitting is a psychological term characterized by the alternation
between extremes of idealization and devaluation. When a borderline
idealizes someone they can’t remember the bad things. When they devalue
the person, they can’t remember the good things. Splitting causes
emotional pain and confusion and can result in drastic reactions. It is
an automatic self-defense mechanism that borderlines subconsciously use
to protect themselves. If their partner breaks up with them, their mind
may split their partner as "completely bad", remembering all the bad
things they ever did to them, or said to them, because if all the
positive memories of the person are forgotten in that moment, the
breakup doesn’t feel so bad. The problem is that their mind later
switches back to idealization, and then it hits them, creating the
biggest loss ever, instead of a realistic view. Splitting is not always
used to protect themselves. It can also be triggered if they see
something they don’t like in a person or if their needs aren’t being
met.
3. IDENTITY DISTURBANCE Borderlines don’t always
know who they are, or where they belong. They may run away or make
frequent changes in their life because they feel they are in the wrong
place, wrong job or wrong relationship. It can also lead to changing of
goals. Co-occurring disorders within this category may include other
personality disorders. 4. IMPULSIVENESS Borderlines may
struggle with behaviours such as reckless driving, spending sprees,
binge eating, anger outbursts, fits of rage, frequent moving, running
away, ending relationships abruptly, quitting jobs without notice or
drug and alcohol abuse. Co-occurring disorders within this category may
include addictive disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder,
bipolar disorder and eating disorders. 5. SELF-HARM AND SUICIDAL BEHAVIOUR Borderlines tend to self-harm to relieve intense emotional pain/anger,
or to feel something when they feel emotionally numb. When their soul is
in complete turmoil, and the darkness surrounds them from all sides,
due to the splitting their own life and sense of self, death seems like
the only escape, leading to the risk of suicide. (If you feel suicidal
always seek professional help). 6. INTENSITY, MOOD SWINGS AND DYSPHORIA Borderlines struggle with intense emotions, mood swings and dysphoric
mental states. They sometimes need someone to comfort them and make them
feel that everything is "okay", because their own mind is not able in
the midst of torment, but since people don’t know how to deal with these
symptoms, they don’t receive the comfort they need, leading to reckless
behaviours. Co-occurring disorders within this category may include
bipolar disorder, depression or anxiety disorders: "Among
borderline personality disorder inpatients, 88% meet criteria for a
lifetime anxiety disorder, including PTSD (56%), panic disorder (48%),
social anxiety disorder (46%), specific phobia (32%), obsessive
compulsive disorder (16%), generalized anxiety disorder (14%), and
agoraphobia (12%)... Anxiety disorders are more prevalent among
borderline personality disorder patients than other clinical
populations." (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3643080/) 7. CHRONIC FEELINGS OF EMPTINESS A deep, dark void may drive them to hunt for love, intimacy, drugs,
alcohol, emotional stimulation or entertainment, hoping to find relief.
Sometimes they hate being alone, other times they shut the world out. 8. ANGER OUTBURSTS Their anger is highly intense and may lead to self-harm, suicidal behaviour, reckless driving, substance abuse, etc. 9. DISSOCIATION Dissociation can be experienced in various ways: • Depersonalisation ~ They feel detached from themselves or completely numb and emotionless. • Derealisation ~ They feel detached from the world (e.g. compared to
their intensity they may feel the world lacks emotional depth and
colouring and because of it they may struggle to connect with people on a
level that is satisfying). • Amnesia ~ They may be confused about days and time, experience memory loss and forget details. Episodes can be triggered by various factors (e.g. arguments, loss,
stress, breakups, recent changes, perceived failures, cognitive
distortions, etc.). Neurotransmitter imbalances may also be responsible.
There is also evidence to believe that BPD is related to a seizure
disorder, affecting the emotional parts of the brain. If you, or someone
you know, are struggling with BPD symptoms, free self-help material is

“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil” (Matthew 4:1).
No one wants to
be tempted, but the Holy Spirit knows every course of action for us to
take to succeed against temptation. We have access to the same Spirit
Jesus depended on during His time on earth.
A full life is a gift meant for us to enjoy. Although
it can be an exciting adventure, we also have times when we struggle
just to get through the next twenty-four hours. A failed relationship
can make us feel stressed out, frustrated, and empty. When we’re at our
lowest point, God wants to be the source for everything we need to
recover and move forward again. Most people think they have to be their own source; when something
happens, they’ve been taught to pick themselves up, dust themselves off,
and move on through their own efforts. That sounds fine, until we get
to the self-effort part. We all have human limitations, and eventually
we’ll find we have nothing left to draw from when we need love,
compassion, and acceptance. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). He’s our never-ending source for whatever we’re in short supply of.
The world may tell us we gain an advantage when we find our source in
another person; this is not true. Being single doesn’t have to put us
at a disadvantage when we trust in Christ as our source. Jesus didn’t
need anyone—except His heavenly Father—to complete Him. Relying on Him
as our source gives us a real, not just a perceived, advantage. “Yet for us there is [only] one God, the Father, Who is the Source of all things…” (1 Corinthians 8:6, AMPC). God wants to be a part of our lives, in good times and bad times.
When our friendships are going well, He’s the one who blesses them. When
we’re lonely and hurting, God wants us to turn to Him for comfort. “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). He loves us deeply, and He doesn’t want to see us struggling or in pain. To find contentment, we also need peace and joy. These are godly
emotions. Relying on another imperfect person to provide them leaves us
open to disappointment and pain. Trusting God for them positions us to
receive from a source that never fails. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing…” (Romans 15:13, NKJV). The world confuses joy with happiness, but these are two different
emotions. Happiness is how we may feel for a fleeting moment, but joy
comes from what we know. We can be let down if we base our happiness on
any human relationship. However, the knowledge that God, Himself, wants a
relationship with us brings us joy that no one can take away. “…His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5, NKJV). We’ve all been made with an empty place in our hearts that only God
can fill. Thinking that we’re sufficient in ourselves leaves us longing
for something we can’t identify. No matter how hard we try to find what
we need from the world, it just isn’t there apart from Him. “I say to
the LORD, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing...’
LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure” (Psalm 16:2, 5, NIV). Acknowledging God’s love for us allows Him to fill us with what we need.
Shake off the shackles of fear and intimidation and realize the abundant
life Jesus bought for you. As a child of God, you have been delivered
from the captivity of sin and death. You can let the liberty of God flow
in your life. Go ahead; ring the bell—Christ has set you free! Learn more at http://ow.ly/irwf50uRaDc or www.totaljdm.org. How God Identifies Himself By: Cory Tucholski It’s interesting how God defines
himself. He told Moses that he is the God of your fathers; the God of
Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. He did not define
himself by his omnipotence or his omniscience but by his personal
relationships with these common men (see
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=11747). So reflected
Cardinal Albert Vanhoye, leader of the Roman Curia’s Lenten retreat in
2008. I think that is absolutely fascinating because for many skeptics,
God’s omnipotence and omniscience are not only God’s defining
characteristics, but the logical basis by which many of them reject him.
The presence of an omnipotent and omniscient being can only lead to
fatalism in their minds, regardless of the number of times that I’ve
seen Christians refute this notion.
Because the skeptic cannot
conceive of how an omnipotent and omniscient being could exist
simultaneously in a universe that has free moral creatures, they
conclude no such being exists. Therefore, God does not exist. That’s called argument from incredulity. The Counter-Creationism
Handbook states that most creationist arguments against evolution fall
into that trap. Because the creationist cannot conceive of evolution
possibly doing something, they dismiss it as impossible. As the
Handbook points out, this isn’t a valid argument. But it cuts
both ways. Simply not understanding how a being with perfect
omniscience can coexist with beings that have moral freedom is not a
rational basis for rejecting the notion, particularly in light of the
fact that such reasoning against evolution is soundly rejected by the
same folks. And so we expose another double standard from the skeptical
camp. Interestingly, according to Cardinal Vanhoye, God doesn’t
identify himself on the basis of his attributes. He identifies himself
on the basis of his relationship to creation. How much more should we,
then, identify ourselves on the basis of our relationship to him. I
think that the real problem is that the skeptic is ruled by his sin–and
his sin is how he defines "fun." Drinking, gambling, drugs, premarital
sex–all of these things are "fun," but all of these things have
consequences. Defining oneself on the basis of one’s
relationship to God will have consequences, too. One must focus one’s
thoughts on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable
(Phil 4:8)–and it is easy to conclude even without a Bible (cf. Gal
5:16-24) that those things I just defined as "fun" from a secular point
of view do not fit with that mode of thinking. Defining oneself
on the basis of a relationship with God brings with it freedom from sin
(cf. Rom 6:14). Paul exhorts us not to use that freedom for sin, "but
through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one
word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ But if you bite and
devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another"
(Gal 5:13-14). So, brothers and sisters in Christ, if God
identifies himself on the basis of a relationship to his creatures, why
do the creatures not identify themselves on basis of a relationship to
him? Cory Tucholski is a passionate defender of the Christian faith, husband
of an amazing wife, and proud father of two. He is active in his local

Midfielders are the only players who play
both offense and defense, so they need to be complete players. Coach Ron
Caputo likes his midfielders to dictate tempo by playing hard and
playing fast, so he drills his athletes hard and fast. In this lacrosse coaching course,
Caputo demonstrates this notion of drilling hard and fast by applying
it to the development of both offensive and defensive skills.
On
the offensive end, Caputo shows a number of drills and techniques that
will enhance a midfielder's abilities in critical areas such as dodging,
shooting, and passing. Defensively, Caputo applies drills to potential
game-like situations and teaches a useful holding drill that focuses on
movement and stick placement. He also touches on important elements,
such as quick passing and catching over the shoulder. Caputo's teaching
provides an in-depth set of skills and abilities that are a necessity in
the construction a complete midfielder.
John
Danowski has been the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils men's lacrosse
team since the 2007 season. Previously, he had spent 21 seasons as the
head coach at Hofstra.
Ron Caputo is the assistant coach of Duke

important, and getting the right vitamins and supplements can be the
difference between life and death. Did you know that cancer is an energy disease? It rears its ugly head in
the form of distorted membranes, which can wreak havoc on the body. But
fatty acids, vitamins A,E,D, and K, and even cholesterol can all serve
to repair these damaged membranes.
Be sure to watch the whole clip to find out if you’re getting the RIGHT
nutrition to prevent and combat cancer. According to Ben Fuchs, “There
is no chronic disease on earth that does not begin at the level of the

The investigation into a Lodi officer-involved shooting that resulted in
the death of a suspect has concluded, and the officers will not be
charged. Use of deadly force in the October 23, 2017 shooting that
resulted in the death of Matthew Palaita was “justified under the
circumstances”, according to a statement from the San Joaquin County
District Attorney’s Office. The D.A.’s office issued the report on
Friday, detailing the events leading up to Palaita’s shooting. On
October 23, 2017 Lodi Police Officer Daniel Bristow was driving his
patrol car near Lincoln Avenue and Turner Road in Lodi when he
reportedly saw the driver of a Honda Pilot using his cell phone as they
drove past. Officer Bristow began to initiate a traffic stop. When he
activated his overhead lights, he saw Mr. Palaita, who was in the back
of the Pilot, throw something into the rear cargo area of the vehicle,
the report says.
The Honda Pilot stopped in the 900 block of North Pleasant Avenue. When
Officer Bristow walked up to the driver’s side of the SUV, he said he
saw Palaita trying to hide from him on the floorboard of the back seat
area. Palaita would not acknowledge Officer Bristow, and as a result,
the officer decided to request another officer for backup. Officer
Dominic Carillo arrived at the scene and walked around the other side of
the pilot. He told Palaita to show his hands. Palaita reportedly took
his hand from the cargo area and quickly got out of the vehicle. Police
say he pointed a .22 caliber revolver at Carillo. As Carillo was
retreating, Carillo fired his service pistol at Palaita, who fell to the
ground, the report says. Palaita was declared dead at the scene. Full report here: https://www.sjgov.org/WorkArea/Downlo... Donate to PoliceActivity: https://www.patreon.com/PoliceActivity
