Bowie State Football to Host Delta State in NCAA Super Region 2 Playoffs


 Bowie State Football Earns NCAA Division II Super Region 2 Playoff Berth




Bulldogs to Host Delta State Statesmen at Noon Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –The Bowie State University football team received good news on Sunday (11/12) evening after hearing the Bulldogs named announced for a berth into the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 playoffs. The Bulldogs (9-1) will host their first-ever home football playoff game and will face the Delta State Statemen (8-3).  

“We’re really excited about the opportunity, even more excited to host and look forward to a very challenging and tough Delta State team”, said an ecstatic Bowie State head coach Damon Wilson.

Bowie State’s last appeared in NCAA regional play in 2015, falling on the road to Assumption by a score of 51-29.

The top seed West Alabama (10-0) will have a first-round bye. In other Super Region 2 matchups, #2 Virginia State (10-0) will host #7 West Georgia (8-3) and #4 Wingate (9-1) will host West Florida (7-3).

All games will be played on the host campus and will kickoff at 12 noon.

Slow Start Results in 87-72 Bowie State Men's Basketball Setback to Wheeling Jesuit

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - A very slow start for the Bowie State men's basketball team versus Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday afternoon results in an 87-72 setback in the Clarion Hotel Conference Classic to wrap up the Bulldogs' weekend.



Senior Ahmaad Wilson (Baltimore, Md.) led Bowie State with 18 points while sophomore Saiquan Jamison (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and freshman Keith Duffin, Jr. (Fort Meade, Md.) added 13 and 10 points respectively. Senior Dayshawn Wells (Baltimore, Md.) and redshirt sophomore David Belle (Hyattsville, Md.) chipped in eight points apiece. Freshman Jacob Long (Washington, D.C.) tied for game-high assists honors with four.

Bowie State (1-1) was outrebounded 41-24, shot 41.3 percent from the field (26-of-63), which included 10-of-22 behind the 3-point line (45.3 percent) and made 10-of-12 from the charity stripe (83.3 percent).

Haywood Highsmith led four Wheeling Jesuit players with a game-high double-double of 27 points and 16 rebounds to go along with a pair of assists and two blocks. Pat Moseh connected of 7-of-11 field goals and 7-of-9 free throws to finish with 21 points and added six rebounds and four assists for the Cardinals. Preston Boswell and Jeremiah Wilson ended the contest with 20 and 12 points respectively.

The Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals (2-0) shot 58 percent from the field (29-of-50) and a blistering 68 percent in the second half on 17-of-25 shooting. The Cardinals dominated in the paint, outscoring the Bulldogs 38-16.

The Bulldogs found themselves in an 11-0 hole before scoring its first field goal on a layup by sophomore Cameron Hayes (Upper Marlboro, Md.) at the 15:05 mark of the first half. Bowie State trailed by double digits most of the first half and went into halftime down 38-29.

Bowie State trimmed the deficit down to seven twice early in the second half before Wheeling Jesuit surged to take control for the remainder of the afternoon.


The Bulldogs return to the hardwood on Tuesday (November 14), traveling to Bloomfield (N.J. College to take on the Bears at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.  



Bulldogs Women's Basketball Battles Back to Top Shippensburg 73-64

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Bowie State women's basketball made it two wins in a row after defeating host Shippensburg 73-64 in the final game of the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic on Saturday evening inside the Heiges Field House. With the victory the Bulldogs improve to 2-0 while Shippensburg Raiders dip to 0-2 on the season.

Senior Kyah Proctor (Capital Heights, Md.) scored 17 points and graduate student Sade Chatman (Minneapolis, Minn.) pumped in 19 points (one off her career high) to go along with a game-high four assists and a career-high five blocks to lead the Bulldogs. Senior Ty-Nita Baker (Houston, Miss.) rounded out Bowie State’s double figure scorers with 14 points.

Shippensburg’s Ariel Jones led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, which included 5-of-7 beyond the arc and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Kryshell Gordy was the only other Raider to score in double figures, adding 10 points to go along with a half-dozen rebounds and three assists.

Shippensburg came out of the gate strong and opened the game with a 12-4 run over the first five minutes of play. The Raiders held a 20-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Bowie State rallied in the second quarter and carried a 28-27 lead into the break.

The Bulldogs had its lead trimmed to one (30-29) early in the third quarter before going on a 11-3 run to push their lead to 11 (41-32) following a triple by senior Lisa Jing (Laurel, Md.). Bowie State extended their lead to 59-41 on 62.5 percent shooting from the field. Bowie State out-scored host Shippensburg 31-14 in the third quarter which made the difference in the outcome of the game.

Bowie State’s lead grew to a game-high 21 points twice in the fourth quarter, but Shippensburg closed the game with a 14-2 run to make the game interesting down the stretch.

In terms of team stats, Bowie State finished the night with a shooting percentage of 41.3 percent and knocked down 15-of-17 free throws (88.2 percent). The Bulldogs held a slim 38-36 points in the paint advantage, converted 22 Raiders turnovers into 21 points and the Bowie State bench out-scored the opponents bench 21-12.

Proctor and Chatman were named to the All-Tournament and Proctor brought home some extra goodies after being selected the Most Valuable Player.

The Bowie State Bulldogs make their home debut on Saturday (November 18), hosting the Catawba Lady Indians at 2 p.m. in the A.C. Jordan Arena.

The problem is that like so many things in this industry people ask the wrong questions and, consequently, get the wrong answers. The duty belt is but a small portion of a police officer or Security person's load carriage system. We should be asking "How do I set up my uniform?".
