5 Stupid Things Healthy People Do

You are not a stupid person. Not by any means.

In fact, it's my guess that you're healthier than most.

You probably exercise regularly. You watch what you eat. You keep up-to-date on the latest health concerns. You don't binge on sugar.

And you never - ever - eat fast food. Well, almost never.

But you do have a few unhealthy skeletons in your closet -ones that you probably aren't even aware of.

The following 5 Stupid Things are frequently committed by health conscious people. Once you break these bad habits, you'll find that achieving your weight loss goals just became a whole lot easier.

1. You're Dehydrated
  • It has been said that 75 percent of the population is chronically dehydrated. Would you disagree? When was the last time that you actually drank 8 glasses of water in a day?
  • Dehydration occurs when more fluid leaves your body than is taken in. Symptoms include: fatigue, irritability, headaches, nausea, rapid heart rate, and, in extreme cases, even death.
  • Dehydration also slows your metabolism, which hinders weight loss.
You shouldn't wait until the feeling of thirst or dry mouth hits you, at that point damage has already been done. Instead, constantly rehydrate throughout your day to avoid dehydration.

The best way to do this is to incorporate water into your daily schedule. Have a water bottle at your desk and train yourself to sip on it often, and get into the habit of drinking a full glass of water with each meal and snack.

2. You Eat Out Too Often
  • Research suggests that most people eat out one out of every 4 meals and snacks. That's an average of once a day.
  • Restaurant food is designed to do one thing: to taste good. In order to increase eating pleasure, each item is loaded with fat, salt and sugar. This causes you to eat way more calories than you actually need.
  • Even when you order ‘healthy' items, you're still taking in more calories and fat grams than you would if you had prepared the item at home. Imagine the last salad you ordered out. Didn't it come with cream dressing, croutons, cheese sprinkles and a piece of butter laden bread on the side?
The main reason people eat out is for convenience, so with a little organization you'll find that preparing your own meals takes less time than you thought it would. On the weekend sit down and plan out your meals for the week. Then go to the grocery store and stock up on everything you'll need for those meals.

Pack your lunch and snacks each night before bed, then grab it on your way out the door in the morning. When you prepare dinner at home, make enough for at least the next day as well. Your efforts will pay off both in terms of weight loss and in money saved.

3. You're Sleep Deprived
  • In Gallup Poll surveys, 56% of the adult population reported that drowsiness is a problem in the daytime. That's more than half of us that clearly don't get enough sleep.
  • Healthy adults require 7-8 hours of sleep each night. When you fail to meet this need your body goes into sleep debt, which continues to accumulate indefinitely until you catch up.
  • A lack of sleep negatively affects your immune system, your nervous system, and interferes with healthy hormone release and cellular repairs.
The best way to combat sleep deprivation is to set a scheduled bedtime. Your body will benefit from a consistent sleeping and waking routine, and you're sure to get all the rest you need.

If you have trouble falling asleep once you're in bed, then try these two tips. First, make sure that you don't drink any caffeinated beverages after lunchtime. Second, don't eat for three hours before you go to bed. This helps eliminate sleeplessness due to indigestion, and will also turbo-charge your weight loss.

4. You're Stressed Out
  • I don't have to tell you that we are living in a fast-paced world and that most of us have stress levels that are through the roof. But what you might not realize is that your stress levels are making you fat.
  • Stress creates an increase in the hormone cortisol, and chronic stress creates a chronic increase in cortisol. This is a problem because is slows your metabolism, leads to cravings and is linked to greater levels of abdominal fat storage.
  • The vicious cycle of stress and weight gain goes around and around. Stress causes you to eat emotionally, and your raised cortisol levels cause that food to be stored as fat.
One of the most effective ways to instantly eliminate stress is to sit down and write out a list of all the things that are bothering you. This should include things that you need to get done, issues that weigh on your mind and anything you believe contributes to your stress level.

Once it's all down on paper, organize it like a to-do list and start resolving each item. Doing so will get the stress off of your mind and will put your body into the motion of resolving each issue.

5. You're on Exercise Autopilot
  • You do the same thing each and every time you exercise. Same machines, same pace, same duration. While your routine sure feels comfortable, your results have long since halted.
  • A plateau occurs when your body adapts to your routine and weight loss stops. It is incredibly frustrating, and totally avoidable.
  • You don't have to increase the amount of time that you spend exercising in order to see quicker, faster results. It's all about challenging your body.
There are two simple ways to instantly increase the effectiveness of your exercise routine. First, increase your pace. Secondly, increase your intensity. Constantly vary your speed and intensity in order to keep your muscles guessing and adapting.

Another way to break through the exercise plateau is to do something totally new. If you regularly use weight machines then start using free weights. If you normally jog on the treadmill then start using the bike.

Michelle’s Story:

I’m a mother of 5 with my last two being twins that were born in Oct.2013.. I’ve always been athletic and for what I thought in shape, but I had back problems and realized my back was limiting my workouts and I was not having the body I so wanted.. So in May of 2015 I had a lumbar fusion and was not able to do anything for 7 months. So in December of 2015 I began to workout with my husband light weights and cardio. But I physically was and am still not where I want to be. So I suggested to my husband we do hitch. Your Fast-Track to a Flat Tummy & Tight Abs

Diego-and-Nate-Senior-Night-2015.jpgThe New Year is only a few weeks away, and if you've decided to make this coming year for losing the weight and tightening your abs, you're in luck.

Getting a flat midsection really boils down to two things: 1) Getting rid of the fatty layer that is covering your abdominal muscles; and 2) Tightening and toning your abdominal muscles.

The following 7 Tight Abs Tips are your Fast-Track ticket to getting a flat, attractive midsection this year.

Tight Abs Tip #1: Perform challenging strength training abdominal exercises at least three times each week. Your abs are like any other muscle in your body—they need to be consistently challenged in order to become stronger and tighter.

Tight Abs Tip #2:
 Stop eating junk. Processed foods, refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup do NOT belong in your diet if, especially if you want tight abs. Cutting these items from your diet will allow your body to maintain stable blood sugar levels, alleviating your body's need to store excess sugar away in fat cells.

The fat stores created by excess sugar intake most often accumulate around your waist, covering up your abdominal muscles. Cut these items from your diet and replace them with real whole foods such as lean meats, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and fruits.

Tight Abs Tip #3: 
Stop doing long and slow cardio workouts. Instead, use HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) for your cardio workouts. HIIT training uses intense bursts of cardio peppered throughout your workout. This is a sure-fire way to rev up your metabolism and to get your fat stores to shrink.

Tight Abs Tip #4: Use resistance with your abdominal exercises. Crunches are great, but your body quickly becomes accustomed to the motion, rendering it less effective. Hold a medicine ball or dumbbell at your chest as you perform your crunches—this will force your abs to work harder, and will achieve better results.

Tight Abs Tip #5: Don't be fooled. The market is flooded with 'lose weight' products and products that claim to flatten your stomach. Never waste your time or money on:
  1. So-called packaged health food that comes with weight loss claims. If it's processed in a package with a bunch of chemical additives then it will not help you achieve flat abs.
  2. Abdominal exercise gimmicks as sold on late night infomercials – all you really need is your own body weight, an exercise ball and dumbbells or a medicine ball.
  3. So-called weight loss supplements. The magic pill for flat abs doesn't exist, so you'd be wasting your health and money on a bogus product.
Tight Abs Tip #6: Target your lower abs. It's easy to neglect the lower abs, but they are an important part of the equation. Incorporate the V-Up into your exercise routine:

Starting Position: Sit on the edge of an exercise bench; lean back to a 45 degree angle. Extend your legs out until they are level with the floor.

Movement: 
Exhale and bring your knees and upper body close together, while contracting your abdominals. Inhale as you slowly release your legs, returning them to the starting position.

Tight Abs Tips #7: Challenge your core often. Don't limit your abdominal exercise to the gym, incorporate core strengthening during daily life and throughout each workout. A strong core is the foundation for flat, tight abs.

There you have it! Seven tips that, when diligently applied, will help you shed the fat and tighten your abs.

But, keep in mind that your results will be seriously hindered if you do the same exercise routine over and over. Your abs need a progressive challenge in order to transform. This means new exercises, different resistance and increased challenge.

27 Fitness and Fat Loss Tips

Frankly Athletes and Warriors,
I have had it with with failed New Year's resolutions to get serious about your fitness. As many of you already know that fitness is a lifestyle for a lifetime. Not a fad that starts January 2, and fizzles out on February 8!.
I care too much about my peeps to be another fitness "Gooroo" who will lie to you about this being the "30lbs in 30 days" program or some other Bull.
If you have not started, begin today and resolve to stay in it for a lifetime. It won't be long before its New Year's Day, and you have a clean slate.

I don't know if you are one to make New Year's Resolutions. particularly this far away from the New Year, or not, but either way you're probably thinking about how you can become fitter, healthier and happier than you are right now.

These 27 Fitness and Fat Loss Tips will get you on the right track for this New Year:
  1. Visualize the accomplishment of your goals each and every day. Experience the taste of success and feel that sweet satisfaction.
  2. Push the intensity of your workouts. Don't kill time, burn calories by maintaining a challenging intensity.
  3. Use smaller plates at home. This effortlessly reduces calorie intake and promotes weight loss.
  4. Build accountability into your workouts so that you resist the temptation to take days off. The best way to ensure accountability is to work with a personal trainer either one-on-one or in a group training setting.
  5. Believe in yourself. Know with conviction that you CAN accomplish your goals.
  6. Drink water throughout your day. Do this by carrying a water bottle and opting for water rather than calorie-filled beverages. This simple action is extremely beneficial.
  7. Maintain your metabolism by eating a healthy snack or meal every three hours. This food should be unprocessed, low in fat and high in fiber.
  8. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
  9. Incorporate High Intensity Interval Training into your cardio workouts by performing bursts of high intensity rather than exercising at a single steady pace.
  10. It's not about will-power, it's about want-power. You have to want it.
  11. Do not eat processed foods. These items are high in empty calories and contain a plethora of chemicals that are harmful to your health.
  12. Stop talking about losing weight. Start doing it.
  13. Fat contains twice the caloric density of carbohydrates and protein, so limit the amount that you consume. Fill your diet with lean protein and carbohydrates from plants and whole grains.
  14. Be wary of products that are labeled as ‘health food'. Always read the nutrition labels.
  15. Find a workout partner who is in better shape than you, or better yet work with a personal trainer to guarantee dramatic results.
  16. Make a habit out of reading nutrition labels. Avoid items that are high in fat and carbohydrates.
  17. Destroy negative self talk.
  18. Avoid the trap of high-calorie beverages after your workouts.
  19. Be consistent with your workouts. Exercise three to four times each week.
  20. Expect more of yourself.
  21. High fructose corn syrup should not be in your diet. It is high in calories and will quickly derail your weight loss efforts.
  22. Challenge your body with each workout. Use different weights, do different exercises and break through plateaus.
  23. Eat lots of whole plant foods. Vegetables, fruits and whole grains are filled with fiber and antioxidants, vital for your good health.
  24. Do your cardiovascular exercise after weight training to ensure more fat burn. Your stored sugars will be depleted during the weight training then your body will rely on fat stores to get you through the cardio workout.
  25. Set specific, measurable goals.
  26. Start each day with a healthy breakfast. This important meal should be a balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat to get your metabolism going strong.
  27. You deserve better...go get it.
After writing these tips, I realized how powerful and inspiring they are. Print this list and place it somewhere that you'll see often – this will keep you motivated and pumped up to accomplish your goals.

I started my life style change the end of August 2013. Certain things would make me notice the weight I was at. When I would get my hair cut I would look in the mirror and realize I didn’t like the person I was looking at. I started working out a little more than I usually had. I lost a few pounds here and there but not to the extent I was hoping for. I’ve been working out for several years but wasn’t getting any results. I was building muscle but without burning the fat it wasn’t showing. I thought I was doing things right and making better food choices but I wasn’t. Eating out once or twice week, drinking sweet tea, and consuming candy aren’t something you can do if your expecting any kind of change. I guess you can’t have a few margaritas a week and expect to lose any kind of weight :) it wasn’t until I started talking to Micah that I really started to understand my body and what I needed and didn’t need. THE SETBACK (9 weeks in)



9 Weeks into his transformation BOOM. While at work a broiler exploded and his body was covered in 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He was hospitalized and could not workout for a few weeks. I remember getting the text from him with the pics and story and simply thinking REST and Recover, happy that he is alive. Your Holiday Party Cheat-Sheet

Remember that kid in school who scored so well on tests that everyone got a little suspicious?

Then one day during a big exam - BAM - the teacher pulled a cheat-sheet out of the kid's pocket. It was game over for that kid and the rest of the class was able to breathe a little easier knowing that those perfect scores weren't real.

A cheat-sheet gives you an unfair advantage – it supplies you with what you need to get ahead.

How would you like a cheat-sheet for getting through holiday parties without putting on a single pound?

What if this cheat-sheet could also help you lose a few pounds before New Year's?

You're in luck, because below I have outlined the 5 shortcuts you need to avoid gaining holiday party pounds.

Short Cut #1: Eat a sensible meal before the party.
You should always arrive at parties with a full stomach. I realize that this goes against the popular trend of starving yourself before a party, and that's exactly why most people gain weight. Since your stomach will be full, you'll have the clarity to pick and choose the treats that you really want, rather than stuffing yourself with everything in sight.

Short Cut #2: Bring a healthy dish to share.
Don't worry if the party that you're going to isn't a potluck - the hostess will love you for being so thoughtful, and you'll have a healthy option to enjoy.

The Festive Hummus recipe below is perfect to bring to parties.

Short Cut #3: Never drink calories.
Do you realize how quickly calories add up when you're slurping them out of a cup? Alcoholic beverages and sweet holiday drinks are simply packed with calories. These calories don't take up much room in your stomach so you're left wide open for even more calories.

Your best strategy is to avoid these beverages altogether, and stick with water. Aim to drink 2-3 glasses of water at the party.

Short Cut #4: Fill your plate, but only once.
I'm certainly not going to tell you that you shouldn't eat anything at the party. By all means, go and fill up your plate. But only once.

That's right, you heard me. No going back for seconds. Since you've already eaten a sensible meal before arriving, this rule is going to be easier to keep than you think.

Short Cut #5: Taste dessert, just a taste. 
The holidays are all about sweet treats, so go ahead and partake. But just a taste. Look at desserts as something to savor, not something to fill up on.

And since you ate a sensible meal before you came, then you filled up your dinner plate once you're probably going to be pretty full at this point anyway.

That's it - all you need to know to not gain a single pound at holiday parties.

Boxing is another one of those contact sports that attracts a lot of controversy, in this case in the area of head injuries that are possible, but still popular around the world.
Many use boxing strength and conditioning techniques to help change their bodies into leaner, meaner fighting machines without actually stepping into the ring.

Throughout the length of the Boxing Program, the manipulation of the sets and repetitions for each exercise will be based on periodization concepts that involve changing the intensity and the volume of the workouts.

A Total Life And Body Transformation now Helping Others Front before and after

My overall transformation began about 4 years ago, and I started working with Micah in late 2012.

From the very beginning (4 years ago) –> 155lbs / 13% bf / hip 34, waist 31

From the start of HitchFit (Nov 2012) –> 189lbs / 16% bf / hip 40, waist 34.5

Stepping on stage (June 2013) –> 171lbs / 5% bf / hip 35, waist 29.5


Far beyond any mere aesthetic metamorphosis, this journey continues to be a complete transformation of heart, mind, and lifestyle. A culmination of personal commitment and unwavering perseverance no doubt, but also – and far more significant – an embodiment of cultivated perspective rooted in genuine introspection, openly embraced vulnerability, intellectual honesty and humility, continuous research, and exploratory exposure to disparate cultures and philosophies and insurmountable beauty in life reflected through inspiring individuals around the world I continue to have the fortunate privilege of connecting with on a daily basis. Indeed, the realization of how important it is to open your mind and lifestyle to the amazing adventures of life; allowing yourself to find in everyone you meet – no matter how short their stint along your path – the enormous value we all bring to each other, an inspiration to move forward.

I have this privilege of living inspired through the people I interact with on a daily basis. I experience it every time I’m around amazing people who dedicate themselves to serving others, when I meet someone from a completely different culture holding a completely different perspective on the world around us, or when looking into the eyes of kids all over the world who conceive none of the illusory boundaries we as adults construct in our minds.

In seeking out HitchFit, I was absolutely dedicated to taking my physique to another level and destroying the boundaries constructed in my mind regarding my potential. Considering their extreme level of knowledge, integrity, and experience in transforming others, I was confident that having Micah and Diana as mentors along this journey would play a huge roll in my success. I was able to simply put my full trust in them.

At the time, I was working as a personal trainer, traveling a lot, taking courses for my MBA degree, taking on clients as a business strategy consultant, running a local business with an internal medicine physician, building my own online business, and dedicating myself to training! Yea, certainly throws out any excuse of never having enough time!! There’s always time for that which we are passionate about and prioritize. Consistent daily preparation and organizational management was vital, and having Micah design a strategic regimen really allowed me to hone in on a structured plan of action and dedicate myself to a process that led to major results. My goal was to meet Micah and Diana and step on stage at the WBFF Central USA in May 2013, but my best friend was getting married that same weekend and I would never have missed that for the world. So instead, in late June 2013 I was finally able to step on stage and realized this was only the beginning of a lifestyle that became reality. I could accomplish anything when applying the same positive and dedicated mindset towards what I was passionate about.

In so many ways, I view pursuing a fit life as a pathway towards something more meaningful and balanced. You only get what you put in. There are no boundaries other than the ones you put up. Each day builds a character foundation that stands up to any barriers in life, your fear begins to dissipate and confidence in your own courage and integrity grows. You begin to realize the world is full of opportunities and that no body owes you anything, but that you owe it to everyone to share your passion, knowledge and service. Micah and Diana truly personify these intangible traits, and they become an inspiration to achieve it in your own life.

Nothing has driven my success more than this empowering mindset. It has inspired me to explore, seek mentors, adapt, and take massive action towards pursuing every adventure in life. I recently picked up my life on the east coast, walked away from several streams of stable income and a comfortable lifestyle, to venture to the west coast in order to follow my passion and truly create a meaningful impact.

As a lifestyle entrepreneur, I am extremely passionate about serving others and helping people reach their full potential in every aspect of life. I have always been driven by fitness and giving back, which is why I became a certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Nutrition Specialist in the first place. I wanted to live a healthy, active lifestyle and help people all over the world transform their lives. Unfortunately, my local training job would never truly allow me to do either; 10-12 hour days only serving 12-15 people, maybe 100 people per week if I was able to throw in a bootcamp. It wore me down physically and was detrimental to my overall health and wellbeing, and I was doing a complete disservice to the hundreds of thousands of people around the world that I could be serving. What Micah and Diana have done with HitchFit was a major inspiration for me to think outside the box and discover what is truly possible and the real impact I could have on others around the world.

After discovering the power of building an online strategy for my own business, I started working with other fitness professionals who had been in a similar position and were seeking more. Before long I had become known as The FitLife Entrepreneur, which really represents this action-taking mindset as well as the empowering community revolution we started. It’s about providing fitness entrepreneurs the network and resources to scale their business online and create the time freedom to actually start experiencing that healthy active lifestyle and help more people! Along with the business systems and trainings, the resources, the community, and personal coaching, we also have mastermind retreats to personally connect fitness entrepreneurs from all over the world. We travel, workout, explore, mastermind, and engage in community outreach together. This not only allows members to enhance their business and lifestyle, it really engulfs them in a high level of awareness and appreciation for the meaningful impact they are actually able to have on people’s lives now that they are no longer bound by the shackles of struggling financially.

Through The FitLife Entrepreneur Experience podcast, we are able to highlight the strategy, success, tenacity, struggle, humility, lifestyle, impact, and genuine passion of fitness entrepreneurs who took a bold stand against normality and stretched their comfort zones in order to scale their services and transform more people’s lives around the world!!

In April 2014, I will have the honor of speaking at a Tedx event in Luxembourg on the power of perception and how we have the ability to manifest our outer reality and future path through the perceptions we choose to accept.

My level of appreciation for Micah and Diana and the HitchFit team go far and beyond anything that can be described here. Their genuine integrity, passion for serving others, and empowering energy truly inspire all aspects of my fitness, business, and life.

I love it when a client doesn’t realize what they are really capable of until they go through this process. Alayne is friend’s with rock star Hitch Fit Transformation Amy Gipson, who is now one of the Hitch Fit Transformation Trainers here in Kansas City. So she has seen first hand what Hitch Fit can do if you’re ready to make the lifestyle changes. Alayne, like many women in their 40’s, struggled with a gradual weight gain over the years. At 48 years of age, after trying many different things, she started to take a closer look at Hitch Fit. Alayne’s Story:

“My battle with “weight creep” started in my early 40’s. I tried all methods of exercise and calorie restriction to control it. When this didn’t work, I was convinced it was hormonal and I just needed to get those hormones balanced to get things back to normal, so I started going to all kinds of doctors, having all kinds of tests done to figure out what needed to be fixed. One doctor told me that I could eat any kind of protein I wanted (hot dogs!?!), but that I had to cut out ALL carbs – vegetables and fruits included. The only time I could eat carbs was if I was going to exercise immediately afterwards to burn it off.

There is one time that I remember my weight actually responding to what I did – maybe after some hormone therapy – but otherwise, I felt like I was exercising all the time and/or counting every calorie going into my mouth with no results. Why put out all of this effort with what seemed like no reward? I would quickly get discouraged and give up whatever I was trying at the time. I was trying to do everything myself with no real plan or guidance.

Fast forward to my late 40’s: My weight was at an all‐time high and I had to keep buying new clothes to fit into. I felt uncomfortable in anything fitted and I didn’t like seeing pictures of myself. I knew I wasn’t very overweight, just very uncomfortable, and very much not in control of where my health was going. My cholesterol was high and I was heading towards insulin resistance/pre‐diabetes. I was always tired and very lethargic. I didn’t realize how inactive I actually was.

I started looking into Hitch Fit because a friend of mine had used the program and had fabulous results. As a matter of fact, she is now a personal trainer in their gym now. But even with Amy’s amazing results and incredible support, I was scared to make the commitment to purchasing a program. I’m trying to run a house, work full time and very involved in our church. Where was I going to fit in the exercise?

And although I’m not a very picky eater, the others in my house are. I barely have time to plan and make one meal at night – I did not want to make 2 different meals. I finally decided to give this program the chance I deserved and purchased the onlineLose Weight Feel Great program in February this year.

I found ways to fit the exercise in. I got up earlier each morning to get my cardio finished before work. I have to admit, at first I really struggled with the morning workouts and dreaded them. I am a night owl, not a morning person, and I was so out of shape. I couldn’t increase the resistance on my elliptical or go very fast or for very long. I knew the settings I had previously been able to use, and was nowhere near that any more. It was hard to not let this be discouraging, but I stuck with the plan. Perseverance is so important and I had the right mindset. After a couple of weeks, my body started catching up to my mind and I realized that I had so much more energy on the days that I did my cardio first thing. I started becoming a morning person. I even missed not doing cardio early on days that other responsibilities came first.

I consistently followed my plan, but I was still bit nervous doing my first “check‐in” measurements and pictures after four weeks. The scale weight hadn’t gone down much, so I wasn’t sure if I was really getting anywhere. When I saw the pictures and numbers, though, it gave me the encouragement to stick with the plan. I was down 3% off my starting body fat and could see progress in the pictures!

About 2 months into my plan, my husband and I took a tropical vacation. I decided I needed to try on my summer clothes before the trip to see what I needed to shop for. I was so excited when I pulled out last summer’s shorts and realized there was no way I could wear them anymore – they were WAY too big. I had a whole “new” wardrobe of clothes I had long given up on! Dresses, jeans, sleeveless shirts – so many cute things that I loved wearing again!

The vacation was a little difficult. I kept up with my workouts, but there were many food temptations. I’d like to be able to say I stayed completely with my eating plan, but I do lack some willpower. The good news was that once I cleaned up my eating immediately when we returned, everything got back on track quickly. My body’s ability to burn through calories was increasing. I was resetting my new normal.

Overall, I lost 13 pounds and reduced my body fat from 23 to 17%. I decreased my hips by 4 inches and my waist by 5. I’m no longer uncomfortable in fitted or sleeveless clothes and love the muscles that have developed with the strength exercises. (I laugh as I write that – when chatting online prior to purchasing my plan, Micah “LOL”d me when I said I didn’t want to build muscle, just tone. I know now why he laughed, but you’ve seen the pictures!) Our family recently vacationed in Colorado, and even though running was difficult at the high altitude, I was in shape for all of the hiking and biking activities we did.
