Dealing With Planter Fasciitis - Inflammation And Pain Going Through The Foot

by John Bolton

What is Planter Fasciitis? Planter Fasciitis is an abnormal condition of foot which is characterized by pain and inflammation of the foot. Especially, it causes inflammation of the tissue from heel to the arch of the foot. It is actually an inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament which runs along the bottom of the foot. The plantar fascia ligament is composed of fibrous bands of tissue and runs between the heel bone and toes. Inflammation increases when tears occur in this tissue.

Symptoms of Planter Fasciitis

The symptoms are, severe pain usually on the underside of the heel especially in the morning. The pain slowly reduces but starts developing with prolonged walking or stress.

Causes of this Foot Condition

What exactly causes this foot condition? Well, there are a number of things that cause this foot condition. You will find that many athletes deal with it as they put a lot of repetitive stress on the tissue in their foot.

Many athletes are known for dealing with this foot condition as they face inflammation and tears of the tissue as they put a lot of stress on their tissue. So, are there any other causes? Well, another cause is arthritis. As you know, arthritis can cause inflammation to come about in the tendons, which leads to this foot condition.

Another main cause of Planter Fasciitis is arthritis. Arthritis can cause inflammation to develop in tendons, finally leading to Planter Fasciitis. This abnormality is common among elderly patients. Diabetes is also an important factor which contributes to Planter Fasciitis. So diabetic patients should concentrate in diabetes foot care. Body weight plays a key role in the health of the heel. It is obvious that our heels absorb our body's pressure, being overweight can easily end up in Planter Fasciitis.

Treatment Methods that are Available

As for the treatment, there are many treatment methods out there that are effective. It can start out with something like physiotherapy. There is also losing weight, using foot massagers and even resting the feet. There are some scenarios where surgery is needed in order to help the problem get better.

The treatment can start off with something as simple as physiotherapy. This involves stretching the Achilles tendon as well as the plantar fascia and losing weight. It could also involve using foot massagers and resting. There are some cases where surgeries are done.

Foot Massagers will help to both prevent and cure the problem. So if you have the foot condition, use Foot Massagers to get rid of it and if you don't have it, use it to prevent it.

Study Says You Can’t Prevent Cancer, It’s Just Random Bad Luck

Doomsayers are buzzing about a “groundbreaking” paper published inScience last month. It claims that two-thirds of cancer cases are due to bad luck. The unfortunate victims couldn’t have prevented the problem by doing anything different.
The study got a lot of play in the media. I was in London when the story broke, and people were even talking about it there. I was intrigued and wanted to know more. But when I learned the details of the research, I found out it’s just about the silliest cancer “theory” to hit the media in 30 years.
Today, I want to shed light on why this new study is way off-base, why you should ignore most of its claims – and the one tiny way it might have some value. . .

Cancer cure was found 100 years ago -- buried by the FDA

The Remarkable Cancer Therapy of a
'Modern Pasteur'

"…the history of the Koch Treatment is more dramatic than anything which the mind of a Hollywood fiction writer could imagine."
So wrote three doctors in Birth of a Science (1957), the story of William F. Koch, MD, PhD., a Detroit man who lived from 1885 to 1967. Dr. Koch is said to have created one of the most remarkable medical therapies of the last century -- a treatment not only for cancer but also for many other diseases. Yet these days it’s a therapy mostly confined to the pages of history.
This is how the story unfolded…and failed to unfold, too.

Veterinarian finds an answer to cancer

Veterinary Surgeon Finds
an Answer to Cancer

Veterinary surgeon Dr John Carter, MRCVS, MB, AcA was very odd. His office had no receptionist. There were no appointment times. You just showed up with your pet and waited. And waited. And waited.
And yet people were happy to come with their pets - some traveling hundreds of miles - to his drafty old house on the outskirts of London, England.
Most arrived well prepared for their ordeal. They turned up with books, cool boxes of food and flasks of coffee to keep them going.
What was so special about this eccentric character, and why were people (and animal companions) prepared to put up with his unusual practice? They had a good reason. . .

A blast of cold can cure cancer – or a hangover

Look Younger, Burn Calories,
and
 Prevent Cancer
by Freezing Your Pants Off

When most people think of a sauna, they think of hot, sweat-inducing temperatures. But a cryosauna has the opposite effect: It briefly freezes your body with extreme blasts of cold.
The thought might make you shudder … or shiver … but as it turns out, frigid blasts of cold can be good for your health – and in a big way. In fact, it appears cryosaunas may even be useful in preventing and treating cancer. Here's the scoop on this unusual treatment. . .

Alzheimer's Symptoms Vanish with One Pill?
Here is Mary's story about her father who suffered from Alzheimer's disease.
Symptoms were confusion, aggression, massive behavioral changes and memory loss.
On the advice of a doctor of "alternative" medicine, she gave her father one single tiny 1/16 of an inch tablet, which he dissolved under his tongue.
What happened next took Mary and her father's doctor by surprise...
When he went for his next checkup with his usual doctor, a conventional MD, the doctor was amazed…he found his former Alzheimer's patient reading Time magazine and commenting on minivan recalls.
As Mary said, "The treatment was easy and noninvasive with no elaborate regimes to follow. It's just a few hours of our time and one little tablet taken one time."
And the entire treatment came to less than $100.
Click here to watch the video that reveals this latest health phenomenon and gives you the details on this "hidden" health breakthrough.

Freeze out a hangover and burn calories – at the same time!
You're probably familiar already with the idea behind cryotherapy, which is the application of cold temperatures to the body. You may have used it yourself, as just about everyone has applied an ice pack to a bump or bruise at one time or another.
Cryosauna therapy builds on this principle but is much more efficient than the average ice pack, or even a cold bath. The typical cryosauna is a pod-like tube which you step inside of wearing only underwear. Then, a moveable floor lifts you up until your head pokes out at the top. From there, the padded chamber fills with bursts of sub-zero nitrogen for two-and-a-half minutes, since it only takes that long to significantly cool down your blood.
The nontoxic liquid nitrogen ranges in temperature between -220 and
-300 degrees Fahrenheit. It brings your skin temperature down to freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit). There's no apparent risk of frostbite because the air is dry and you don't stay in the chamber long enough.
While in the pod, your skin temperature drops so fast, your body thinks it's in a state of hypothermia. Because of that, blood drains out of your extremities and into your core -- the body's natural response to keep you alive by saving your vital organs. This reaction to hypothermia nitrifies and oxidizes your blood before it's released back into the rest of your body. When you step out of the machine, blood rushes back to your arms and legs. The process actually elevates your red blood cell count as part of a natural defense mechanism.
The detoxifying effects are so significant that a single session in a cryosauna can supposedly cure a hangover. Other benefits are numerous. They include decreased muscle soreness, reduced inflammation, relief of stress, and improved energy. Plus, cryotherapy helps to detoxify your body and strengthens your immune system. You can also burn between 600 and 800 calories in a single session.
Why your blood gets better
with blasts of cold
Integrative Health in Scottsdale, Arizona, is one of the few places where you can get this treatment. According to the team there, subjecting your body to refrigerator-like conditions for a short time jolts your immune system. This jolt sends messages to each of your organs and then promotes healing of anything it finds wrong.
Your body effectively goes into survival mode when it rushes all the blood to your core. In the process, your blood picks up extra enzymes and nutrients normally held in storage-mode by your body.
The goal is for the nitrogen to cool down your body and reduce any inflammation or pain you're experiencing. Plus, your blood becomes enriched with oxygen, enzymes, and nutrients. And healthy, well-oxygenated blood improves your overall health. That's why this treatment is helpful for anyone battling a major disease like cancer.
Successive treatments lead to an increased hemoglobin count, and your blood becomes enriched in quality. The resulting strong, rich, blood flow helps eliminate many health problems. Extreme cold also helps your body eliminate dead cells through the lymph system. This is important, because otherwise the dead cells make your body systems sluggish.
Over the years we've talked to several alternative cancer doctors who emphasize the importance of moving the lymph, the fluid produced by a body system that collects waste and dead pathogens but, unlike the system for blood circulation, does not pump them out and eliminate them. You have to move the lymph – by exercise, undergoing massage or by stepping up blood circulation through alternate extremes of hot and cold.
Cryotherapy is useful in the fight against cancer because it helps you:
  • Detoxify
  • Repair damaged tissues
  • Improve immune function
  • Reduce markers of the inflammatory response
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Diminish swelling
  • Boost circulation
Cryosauna treatments differ from another standard cancer treatment called cryotherapy that also involves extreme cold. In cryotherapy, a doctor exposes cancer cells to freezing temperatures created by liquid nitrogen. This is often done with skin cancer: The liquid nitrogen, sprayed right on the lesions, freezes the cancerous area. Then a scab forms after the area thaws. As time passes, the scab falls off and the dead cancer cells depart along with it. The procedure is sometimes repeated multiple times.
Cryotherapy has also been used successfully for prostate cancer and cervical cancer. For internal cancers such as kidney cancer or lung cancer, a cryoprobe may be put through your skin after you receive a general or local anesthetic.
This approach appears to do a good job of killing cancer cells in the treatment area, though more information is needed to determine whether it stops cancer from returning.
Better health in just 30 days!
Cryosauna treatments are already popular with athletes, and especially those who suffer joint pain. Even pop culture's favorite doctor, Dr. Oz, devoted a segment on his show to cryosaunas. He pointed out cold therapy is extremely helpful for anyone with debilitating pain and inflammation because it shrinks the blood vessels that lead to the pain. It also affects the nerves and keeps them from sensing pain.
Cryosaunas have been used in Europe for many years, but have only recently started surfacing in America. Treatments cost roughly $75-$100 each. Many facilities recommend five to 10 treatments separated by no more than two or three days. It's not something you want to try if you're allergic to the cold or have hypertension. If you've been diagnosed with cancer it's something you'll want to let your doctor know about.

Is this Brazilian berry the ultimate antioxidant?

This Purple Brazilian Berry
Has More than 5 Times the Antioxidants
Of Blueberries

You may have noticed the explosion of products featuring acai juice or powder that have hit the U.S. markets in recent years.
They're hard to miss given that this fruit has been packaged and sold in various pills, powders, juices, nutrition bars, and shakes.
The acai berry (pronounced ah-SAH'-ee) is an inch-long, dark purple fruit of the acai palm tree, which is native to Central and South America. Some studies show that acai fruit pulp is even richer in antioxidants than cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, or blueberries.
This antioxidant bonanza is the main reason why acai berries have gotten such good press. All hype aside, there really is evidence this is a super berry. Let's take a look. . .

These Doctors Were Forced to Admit
This "Crazy" Treatment Plan Works
Rev. Cobus Rudolph's doctor told him, "Congratulations! You're cancer free!" That was six months after the same doctor had told him his case was hopeless and he should prepare to die. Rev. Rudolph saved his own life, at home, thanks to a book by cancer expert Ty Bollinger.
Richard Wiebe's doctor told him, "You're a miracle from God!" Just a year earlier the same doctor told Richard he'd be dead in six months from terminal brain cancer. Richard treated himself with the tips and secrets Ty Bollinger recommends.
Kevin Irish's doctor was shocked. He asked Kevin, "Are you the terminal patient I saw two months ago? You look great!" Kevin saved his own life when he found Ty Bollinger's book on the Internet and started following the advice.
Frank Woll's doctor was stubborn: "Well, I know the cancer is here somewhere!" But the doctor couldn't find Frank's cancer with a magnifying glass. Only a month earlier, the same doctor had told Frank they'd have to cut off half his ear and part of his neck!
These four men got TOTALLY WELL with Ty Bollinger's secrets. Now, Cancer Defeated is proud to publish them in a new Special Report. Click here and discover an effective, cheap, at-home plan to get rid of almost any cancer in one month.

31-Day Home Cancer Cure

Many folks are convinced the nutrients in acai berries can help you lose weight, boost your immune system, and slow down the aging process. Some studies suggest it might be a natural wonder when it comes to fighting cancer, too.
In one study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, researchers from the University of Florida showed that acai berry extracts triggered a self-destructive response (apoptosis) in up to 86 percent of leukemia cells tested in vitro (i.e. in a lab culture).
Stephen Talcott, assistant professor with UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, said "acai berries are already considered one of the richest fruit sources of antioxidants. This study was an important step toward learning what people may gain from using beverages, dietary supplements or other products made with the berries."
Although this was only a cell-culture model, Talcott said "compounds that show good activity against cancer cells in a model system are most likely to have beneficial effects in our bodies."
So what's acai got that
other berries don't?
Acai berries are relatives of blueberries and cranberries. These close relatives contain nutrients similar to those in acai—it's just that acai berries have more bounteous amounts.
A study conducted by the Arkansas Children's Nutrition Center reported that freeze-dried acai berries have the highest antioxidant activity of any food reported to date!
In fact, the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) score—a measure of a food's antioxidant power—is 167 in acai berries. By comparison, the ORAC score is 32 for blueberries and 14 for apples.
This superfruit contains anthocyanins and flavonoids, two powerful classes of antioxidants that can help:
  • Block the harmful effects of free radicals
  • Decrease inflammation
  • Protect your body from environmental stress (e.g. pollution and traffic)
  • Lower your risk of heart disease and cancer—and possibly slow the spread of cancer cells!
The idea that acai is an effective free radical blocker is no small thing. Here's why…
Acai helps protect you from
free-radical health destroyers!
Free radicals form in your body as you metabolize food and through other natural body functions.
They are also created from pollutants in the air, sun exposure, eating processed foods, smoking, and elevated stress.
If your body has low levels of antioxidants or antioxidant enzymes, factors like these can cause you to become more susceptible to developing oxidative stress. This is what destroys or damages cells—and contributes to the development of major diseases.
Strangely enough, despite eating many foods with a high fat and sugar content—people in France tend to have a lower incidence of heart disease.
Although this has baffled the medical community for decades, many people believe that the French have healthier hearts because they drink a lot of red wine with meals.
The sort of anthocyanin antioxidants in acai berries are also found in red wine grapes. But here's the kicker…
Acai berries contain as much as 10 to 30 times the antioxidant capacity of red wine grapes! If you're like me and already take a lot of antioxidants – in both foods and supplements – you may be wondering, "How much is enough?"
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, you should be consuming 3,000 ORAC units of fruits and/or vegetables a day. Given the government's hostility to natural medicine, that's probably a lowball estimate.
Unfortunately, many of us only get about 1,000 to 1,200 ORAC units per day.
To achieve the recommended ORAC values, you need to eat at least 5-9 servings of fruit and vegetables every day.
Many folks object to this recommendation because they don't like the taste of some vegetables. Others don't want to deal with the peeling, cutting and other prep work.
But if you want to reap the health benefits, you can purchase fruit and vegetable supplements in powdered form that you could use to make delicious smoothies to drink.
And you can easily find products that contain acai berries at most nutritional supplement stores.
It won't hurt to incorporate some form of this great-tasting berry in your quest for optimal health!

This weed you hate could cure cancer

This Weed Everybody Hates
Could Cure Cancer

Here’s an ironic twist on a plant you probably know all too well. It’s been called everything from the “biggest headache for lawns” to the “weed from hell.” Yet it’s also a powerful medicinal herb, a delicious food, and a likely cure for cancer.
Some common names for it include “swine snout,” “blowball,” “lion’s tooth,” and “priest’s crown.” But you probably know this big, deep-rooted plant by its most common name: dandelion. Just take a look at all the things it can do for you. . .
Continued below…
Did you know you can actually
starve cancer cells to death
?
Yes! You can literally kill them off by the thousands-- just by making an easy dietary swap.
It sounds too good (and simple) to be true, but before you write this off as garbage... at least see how one brave doctor is leading the charge with this easy diet and helping his patients FLUSH cancer completely out of their own bodies.
The best part is, you won't feel any sort of hunger at all... so don't wait another second. Start beating cancer TODAY and click here to see for yourself just how easy it can be.

More than just a lawn nuisance
From a gardening perspective, dandelions are a sign that a lawn needs attention. They’re usually the first plant to show up each spring, and they’re known for sucking up water and nutrients intended for your grass.
This abundance of nutrients in dandelions hasn’t gone unnoticed by food enthusiasts. Potassium-rich dandelion greens make a nice base for salads. Dandelion is also used as a spice and thickener in soups, a flavoring in wine, and a tincture in tea. Dandelion root can even be roasted and used as a coffee substitute.
Along with being called a weed, dandelion plants are herbs. Both the root and above-ground parts are used to make medicines. Dandelion herbal mixtures are also used to cure upset stomachs, gas, gallstones, joint pain, loss of appetite, muscular aches, eczema, and bruises. Some people even use it to treat infections, particularly viral infections.
But lately, a lot of attention has been focused on dandelion and its apparent ability to kill cancer cells.
Maybe it does to cancer cells
what it does to your grass
I’d say this is pretty big news on the cancer front. Because not only have scientists found reason to believe dandelion works effectively to thwart cancer … they’re actively, enthusiastically embracing it—and funding research, no less.
There’s reason to be excited. Dandelion looks to be a promising treatment for leukemia, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and even some drug-resistant forms of cancer.
The herb works by suppressing the growth of these types of cancer and thus halting the invasive behavior. Meanwhile, dandelion appears to have no effect on healthy cells.
The connection was first made in Ontario at Windsor Regional Hospital. Oncologist Caroline Hamm was treating John DiCarlo, an elderly man, for a highly aggressive form of leukemia known as myelomonocytic leukemia. Chemotherapy didn’t work and the patient was sent home with instructions to get his affairs in order.
Lucky for him, the cancer center where he was treated suggested he might try drinking dandelion tea.
Not only did the man return to the clinic four months later in remission, he’s now been cancer-free for three years. Better still, Mr. DiCarlo happened to mention the dandelion tea idea to another patient in the waiting room at the cancer center. That patient also began self-administering dandelion tea and also showed improved test results.
Dr. Hamm passed the impressive results of both patients on to University of Windsor biochemist Siyaram Pandey, who soon secured funding to research the effect of dandelions on cancer. Pandey’s team collected commercially available leukemia blood cells and then formulated a root extract made out of dandelion roots they pulled from the ground.
Using a culture dish, the team applied the extract to the leukemia cells and were astounded by the results. Not only did the leukemia cells go through apoptosis (natural cell death) within 24 hours, but none of the healthy cells were killed. They’ve since published these results in theJournal of Ethnopharmacy.
Cancer cells: Meet modern phytomedicine
The exact mechanism behind these astounding results is yet to be uncovered, but scientists believe dandelion extract essentially “reminds” cancer cells to commit suicide. Because really, cell suicide, or apoptosis, constantly takes place in our bodies—it’s how the body cleanses itself of aged, damaged or diseased cells.
At least, that’s how it’s supposed to work, but cancer cells somehow become resistant to this type of cell death. That is, until dandelion extract enters the picture.
Pandey’s results aren’t the only promising findings behind dandelions and cancer. In 2008, the International Journal of Oncology published a clinical study on dandelion tea’s ability to prompt a decrease in breast cancer cells. Similar results took place on prostate cancer cells.
Another report in 2011, published by the same journal, showed that dietary supplements containing dandelion had a positive effect on prostate cancer cells and appeared to suppress their growth. Also in 2011, dandelion root extract was clinically proven to prompt apoptosis in melanomas shown to be resistant to chemotherapy. And other studies have shown dandelion extract is effective against both pancreatic cancer cells and colon cancer cells.
Pandey and his team were recently given another $157,000 in grant money, on top of the $60K they initially received. The grant is intended for further research into the cancer-fighting potential of dandelion root extract and cancer.
Probably a great tea to add to
your weekly regimen
There aren’t any known reactions between dandelions and other herbs, or dandelions and specific foods. But you should be aware that practitioners warn against taking the substance with antibiotics and lithium. Also, if you’re allergic to ragweed, you might be allergic to dandelion -- so take with caution.
Currently, you can get dandelion extract in both tea form and as a dietary supplement from health food stores. Please note that Dr. Pandey’s research used the root.

Are You Being Tricked Into Eating Cancer-Causing Foods?

It's scary to think you don't know what you're really buying at the supermarket. But this is the reality for most everyone in America — and some countries beyond. It's almost impossible to tell if what you're buying is laced with genetically modified foods (GM foods), also known as genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Worse still, you may think you're vigilant about eating only "natural" or organic foods, but in a cruel twist of irony, most natural foods in America do contain some GM ingredients.

And despite their hypey claims of the last decade-and-a-half, GM foods are increasingly being linked to disease — including cancer. There's only one way to be sure you're not slowly poisoning your system.

Continued below. . .

Breast Cancer Breakthrough BANNED!
U.S. Government Blocks Release
of Doctor's Life-Saving Book
A mammoth discovery is wiping out most breast tumors better than anything seen yet in modern medicine. It makes surgery, radiation and chemotherapy look like something from the Dark Ages.

A Cornell-educated doctor followed more than 25 years of case studies and PROVED this treatment can cure breast cancer. With the discovery I'm going to tell you about, almost every woman makes it and without losing a breast to surgery or taking any toxic chemicals. Even those with late stage cancer!

You've got to include this treatment if you want to have any REAL hope of defeating breast cancer. Click here now and watch a new video presentation about this important discovery on Breast Cancer Coverup

Too good to be true
I covered GMO foods for the first time in Newsletter #144, where we looked at the claims for bioengineered foods — and the accusations against them.

The claims make GMOs sound like they will save the world. Advocates say GM foods will control pests and weeds, create seeds that resist drought, and supplement starving cultures with vitamins and abundant amounts of food.

To date, some sixteen years later, none of those claims have been conclusively proven. Instead, we may be on the brink of an agricultural nightmare.

Worse, substantial health problems linked to GMOs are starting to surface. Studies are uncovering links to fertility problems and birth defects. There's a cancer link that's been confirmed both by a Russian study and by British environmentalists. Significant organ damage also appears to result from eating certain GM foods.

On top of all that, we're facing the destruction of biodiversity and the demise of farmers' livelihoods. Really, it's a threat to our basic freedoms — the ability to choose what we eat and to know what we've chosen.

At the heart of all the controversy is Monsanto, the giant seed company working to pump the world full of genetically modified crops.
"Worst company of 2011"
Greed and a total disregard for human welfare appear to rule Monsanto, assuming recent allegations against the company hold water.

In the past, Monsanto has gotten well-deserved flak for suing small farmers for patent infringement when GM seed traits spread into fields surrounding GM crops. Monsanto has also been found guilty of polluting American rivers and landfills with toxic waste. And then recently, Monsanto was declared the worst company of 2011 by the Natural Society for its threat to both the environment and human health.

Right now, the government of India is in the process of suing Monsanto on bio-piracy charges. They claim the biotech giant failed to get approval before attempting to create GM versions of local eggplant varieties, thereby violating the Indian Biological Diversity Act of 2002.

The company shows a long pattern of fraud and apathy toward health and sustainability. From where I sit, it looks like it's all about money. After all, records show the company spent $1.4 million lobbying the federal government last year. $2.5 million was spent the year before, and $1.9 million the year before that (small change for this big company, though.)

Monsanto's lobbying efforts are targeted toward Congress and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to make sure no hint of GM crop regulation is ever passed. This especially includes disclosing on the packaging when foods contain GMOs.
What you can do to protect yourself
By some measures, at least 70 percent of the food in your typical American grocery store is laced with GM foods. You just don't know it, thanks to the massive lobbying efforts of U.S. lawmakers by Monsanto to prevent labeling requirements.

That doesn't mean there's no hope. It was a grassroots effort that got GM foods out of Europe and other countries, not legislation. Consumers rejected GM foods, forcing food manufacturers to remove GM ingredients. According to EU law, all foods with any amount of GMOs or GMO ingredients must be labeled.

As of this writing, GM foods are banned in Germany, Ireland, Hungary, France, and Peru. Peru even went to the effort of passing a monumental 10-year ban on all GM foods — and this was despite previous governmental pressure to legalize GMOs.

The problem is, you have to know which foods to reject. That's not easy, since Monsanto has fought tooth and nail against labeling laws.

Which means our only answer is education.

Here's what you can do to protect yourself right now:
  • Buy organic products whenever possible. Just keep in mind you're only guaranteed to be buying GMO-free if there's a label that says "100% USDA Organic." By definition, foods that carry this label must be free of all GM organisms.
  • Don't eat processed foods. Most contain soy and corn products, and these are almost guaranteed to be heavy with GMOs.
  • Use the Non-GMO Shopping Guide when deciding which brands and products to buy. I suggest you print it out and take it with you when you go to the store. If you have an iPhone, download the free app called "ShopNoGMO."
  • Don't buy something simply because it has one of the following labels: natural, naturally made, naturally grown, all natural, or any derivative of those terms. The use of the word "natural" is not regulated and products with those labels often contain substantial amounts of GMOs.
  • Avoid processed foods, and anything with maltodextrin, soy lecithin, and high fructose corn syrup. Also, avoid aspartame (NutraSweet) and Milk with rbGH.
  • Avoid non-organic varieties of zucchini and crookneck squash, as well as papayas from Hawaii.
  • Look at the PLU code on the produce stickers of the fruits and vegetables at the supermarket. Organic produce has five digits, starting with the number 9. Conventionally-grown produce has four digits, starting with the number 4. GM fruit has five numbers, starting with the number 8.
Push now for truth-in-labeling
I won't deny it's a nice idea to use science to fix the world's problems, especially when it comes to our food supply.

But evidence against bioengineered food continues to mount, and if something isn't done soon there's a real risk these problems will only escalate. There's hope, at least. For starters, polls over the last 16 years show between 85% and 95% of Americans want mandatory labels on GMO foods.

And we're already seeing some progress. A bill was recently introduced in Vermont that would require food to be labeled as GM food whether it was made entirely or even partially with GMOs. The bill would also forbid use of the misleading slew of "natural" labels. In April of this year, the Vermont House Agriculture Committee voted in favor of the bill. They now await judiciary approval. California has a similar bill underway.

It's said that a Monsanto executive once remarked, "If you put a label on genetically engineered food you might as well put a skull and crossbones on it." To him, that means it would merely alarm people for no reason. To me, a skull and crossbones sounds like truth in labeling.

There's no question we need truth-in-labeling. And the only way to get it is by action at the grassroots level. One of the things you can do is put pressure on big supermarket chains and natural food retailers to implement their own labeling practices.

Personally, I look forward to the day when we can once again be sure of what we buy in the store. In the meantime, I urge you to take the steps listed above to protect yourself from the potential threats of GM food.

An antioxidant in the last place you'd look

Chocolate is a Powerful Health Food --
But Heed This Warning

A bit of good news if you receive a gift of chocolate this Valentine's Day: For once, something that tastes good is good for you. Chocolate "teems with antioxidants that prevent cancer," according to a Cornell University study published in 2003.

And the results of an animal study -- just published in December, 2011 -- show that eating cocoa, the raw material in chocolate, can help prevent cancerous lesions in the colon.

Does this give us a license to load up on candy bars, brownies, hot chocolate and (my favorite) Black Forest cake? Let's find out. . .

Ten-year breast cancer survivor was told:
"You'll be dead in a year" (Pssst!! That was 10 years ago!)

Doctors didn't give Wiltrude much hope when they diagnosed her with cancer in the year 2000. Wiltrude, a German psychologist, never thought cancer would happen to her. But it did. And it came as a big shock.

One doctor told her, "You'll be dead in a year." Late stage breast cancer is virtually incurable using conventional treatments. Even M.D.s admit it. They talk about "buying you more time." (Don't count on it. The evidence shows you're better off doing nothing than chemo.)

When Wiltrude told her doctor she was going to try alternative treatments, he said, "You are committing suicide with what you're doing." But she was determined to find a way to beat her cancer.

Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, this European woman came across a book by my good friend Bill Henderson, one of the smartest and wisest people I know when it comes to cancer treatment.

She tried Bill's top, number one recommendation — a gentle treatment you can do at home for just $5.15 a day. What's more, the cost goes down to $3.50 after six weeks because you just need a maintenance dose. And it even tastes good.

Not only has Wiltrude passed the five-year cancer survival mark, she's survived for ten years. We just interviewed her recently for this publication. The radiologist who tests her every year told her, "You're the only one with this kind of result."

You can find out about Bill’s proven cancer treatment plan in a free video presentation — click here to watch it now.

When I ask him about some of the treatments that top alternative doctors use, Bill sort of shrugs and says, "They're fine, but why bother? My treatment works, you can do it yourself, and it costs practically nothing."

He's coached thousands of cancer patients with all different types and stages of cancer. Most of the people who follow the detailed, specific plan in this Special Report get over their cancer and live for years.

"Almost any kind of cancer is reversible," says Bill. "I never give up on anyone."

The Cornell study was entitled "Cocoa has More Phenolic Phytochemicals and a Higher Antioxidant Capacity than Teas and Red Wine." That's a quite a discovery!1

"If I had made a prediction before conducting the tests, I would have picked green tea as having the most antioxidant activity," said one of the researchers, Chang Y. Lee. "When we compared one serving of each beverage, the cocoa turned out to be the highest in antioxidant activity, and that was surprising to me."

He added that as recently as 1993, food scientists did not know that phenolics had an important role in human health. Phenolics or polyphenols are substances found in many plants that are good for your health. They tend to be associated with aromas and flavors — and rich in antioxidant power. The tannins in red wine, for example, are phenolics.

The Cornell comparison of cocoa to green tea and red wine produced startling results. Cocoa turned out to be about twice as rich in beneficial substances as red wine and three times as rich as green tea.

Professor Joe Vinton of the University of Scranton says the darker the chocolate is, the better it is for you. Ounce for ounce, milk chocolate has twice as many antioxidants as blueberries, but dark chocolate has five times as many. But the antioxidant power of cocoa powder is even higher — twice that of dark chocolate.

Eat it off the tree, or as close to that as you can get

The industrial processes that turn cocoa into chocolate reduce its antioxidant properties. The less processed the chocolate, the better it is for your health.

Cocoa is harvested from a plant called "cacao," derived from an Aztec word. This is an evergreen tropical American tree that bears a leathery fruit on the trunk and older branches.

Cocoa powder — the pure stuff — is made from cacao seeds that have been fermented, roasted, shelled, ground, and freed of most of their fat. Most of the polyphenols do survive being heated.

Besides antioxidants, cocoa contains a wealth of other substances that can do you good, including 400 different compounds that promote a better mood and relieve anxiety. Most chocolate fans don't need to be told the stuff gives you a lift. And now the scientific proof is in. Who needs Paxil and Prozac?

Chocolate and cancer prevention

A new study from Spain's Institute of Food Science and Technology (ICTAN) supports the idea that eating cocoa powder can help prevent cancer — or at least colon cancer.2

In the study, rats were fed a diet consisting of 12 percent cocoa while a control group was not fed cocoa. The animals were then given a chemical known to cause cancer lesions in the colon wall. The rats fed a cocoa-rich diet developed fewer lesions than the control group.

The researchers also found an improvement in the antioxidant defenses of the cocoa-fed animals and a decrease in indications of oxidative damage (damage caused by free radicals).

The researchers believe that cocoa helps protect from cancer by interrupting cell-signaling pathways involved in cancer cell proliferation, and also by inducing apoptosis (programmed cell death). Apparently the cancer-fighting substances in cocoa are not absorbed well in the small intestine. That's enables them to find their way into the large intestine — the colon — with their antioxidant powers intact.

Chocolate yes, sugar no

Although there's strong support for the antioxidant value of unprocessed cocoa powder, most of the health benefits are negated by making it into chocolate -- mixing it with gobs of sugar and saturated fat. It's a wash, at best.

There are some chocolate companies that sell dark chocolate candy that supposedly contains a full, rich dose of antioxidants. Check the labels for sugar content.

When I was a child, my older sister and I had hot chocolate every morning for breakfast. (Those were the days). My sister made hers with unsweetened Hershey's cocoa powder, while I made mine with sugar-loaded Nestle's Quik. My sister had the right idea, although she added her own sugar and probably ended up with a drink as sweet as mine.

If you can restrain your shaking, addicted hand from reaching for the sugar jar, a drink made from unsweetened cocoa powder can give you a wealth of health benefits. In fact, it's fair to call it a "super food."

If you've eaten mole poblano — chicken with chocolate sauce -- at a Mexican restaurant, you've encountered unsweetened chocolate — and, yes, it does taste good.

Meanwhile, there's a food that's definitely bad for a great many of us. If you missed the article in the last issue about this lethal substance, scroll down and catch it now.

Sick and don't know why?
This could be the reason

Does the term "healthy" come to mind when you see the words wheat, barley and rye? When eaten as whole grains, they do provide health benefits for most folks who eat them. But not for everyone. In fact, ditching these products may be one of the best steps you can take for good health. Keep reading to find out why. . .

You're being conned!
Your doctor told you to kiss bread goodbye...but your cramping and gas didn't stop. The truth? There are so many OTHER foods containing lectins that could be upsetting your digestive health! An amazing blend of nutrients can promote your gut's health and allow you to splurge on the foods you love on occasion. Click here to learn more.

Whole grain wheat, barley and rye can be good sources of complex carbohydrates, as well as some key vitamins and minerals. And according to the Mayo Clinic1 — they may even help lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers.

Now that's the good news for the majority of folks who eat them. Unfortunately, some people have difficulty digesting the protein called gluten found in these grains.

But the damage goes far beyond digestive upset. Gluten intolerance is associated with a wide range of "mystery" medical problems that have stumped the victims — and their doctors.

The sad truth for many people with gluten intolerance is that they run a greater risk of developing intestinal cancer!

Gluten, gluten everywhere…

You might have never thought about it, but many of your favorite foods could be made from grains that contain gluten. I'm talking about tasty items such as warm, delicious breads and cookies… mouth-watering pizza… and even a tall, frosty mug of beer!

If you find yourself belching often and being troubled by frequent bouts of stomach-rumbling gas—your gut could be sending you a warning.

Your digestive troubles could be a sign that you suffer from gluten intolerance. The worst form of gluten intolerance is celiac disease, an inherited autoimmune condition that affects nearly 3 million American children and adults. It's a very serious illness. What's more, experts think it could affect far more than 3 million.

The Celiac Disease Foundation2 said people with celiac disease have a permanent intolerance to foods containing gluten. This protein does two harmful things:

  1. It prevents your body from properly absorbing nutrients, and
  2. It causes inflammation and damage to the small intestine.
A 72% higher risk of dying

Left untreated, the complications from celiac disease can be fatal. A study of more than 30,000 patients reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association featured data gathered from 1969 until 2008. Patients either had: 1) celiac disease, 2) intestinal inflammation but not full-blown celiac disease or 3) gluten sensitivity.

Researchers found that subjects with full-blown celiac disease had a 39% higher risk of dying. The risk was a whopping 72% for those with intestinal inflammation, and 35% for those with gluten sensitivity!

Research now shows many other chronic health conditions are triggered by gluten sensitivity and intolerance. And most of the time, doctors don't know that gluten sensitivity is the culprit.

Here's why gluten keeps some doctors
scratching their heads…

Dr. Thomas O'Bryan is a board-certified clinical nutritionist who's studied many of the underlying causes of metabolic disorders and chronic disease. In the DVD Unlocking the Mystery of Wheat and Gluten Sensitivity, Dr. O'Bryan quoted a 1996 report from the American Celiac Society that showed the majority of celiac patients visited five or more doctors before their condition was diagnosed properly!

In short, the vast majority of people with wheat sensitivity and/or celiac are undiagnosed. They're sick and don't know why — and neither does their doctor.

Why all the mystery? One reason is there are no signs or symptoms typical for all people with celiac disease. Some people experience abdominal pain, bloating and intermittent diarrhea—and others may have no symptoms at all.

What's more, celiac disease can mimic symptoms of other conditions, such as anemia, Chron's disease, irritable bowel syndrome and gastric ulcers.

It doesn't stop with the GI tract. Dr. O'Bryan said gluten intolerance may cause inflammation throughout the body, which can trigger a variety of health problems including:

  • Autoimmune disorders (lupus, thyroid disease, etc.)
  • Attention Deficit Disorder
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Depression and anxiety attacks
  • Epilepsy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Migraines
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Schizophrenia
  • And a host of other illnesses!

Worse still, research shows a person with undiagnosed celiac disease has an increased chance of developing cancer or lymphomas of the small intestine.

The odds have soared that you or someone you know may need to remove gluten from their diet. In fact, Dr. Joseph Murray, M.D., a Mayo Clinic gastroenterologist, called celiac disease a "public health issue."3

One study compared blood tests of 10,000 people from fifty years ago with tests on 10,000 people today. Researchers found a 400 percent increase in full-blown celiac disease!

So what can you do to protect yourself from the health problems associated with celiac disease?

You MUST take this important step

The first way to address gluten intolerance is to avoid all foods that contain gluten. And remember, this involves more than just avoiding grains.

One of our valued sponsors, True Health, offers a supplement that reduces the symptoms of gluten intolerance. I guess you can even have bread or a piece of cake once in a while if you take these supplements, and you won't feel distress. It sounds like it's worth looking into -- click here if you want to know more.

But let me stress that this is just a BandAid solution. If you're gluten-intolerant, you need to give up all foods that contain gluten. Period. And if you've got celiac disease — not just run-of-the-mill gluten intolerance -- you can NEVER have anything with gluten in it, supplement or no supplement. Celiac disease is dangerous.

Read this BEFORE you lick another
envelope or stamp!

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases said gluten is also hiding in products such as lip balms, medicines, and even in the glue on some envelopes and postage stamps!

Don't toss all your stationery just yet. Most envelopes made in the U.S. use glue made from corn-based products. And U.S. postage stamps use sticky adhesives that don't require a lick.

But be on the watch for the sneaky buzz words that really could be wrecking your gluten-free diet such as:

  • Emulsifier
  • Flavoring
  • Hydrolyzed
  • Stabilizer
  • Starch

If you're wondering whether you have gluten intolerance, your doctor can run tests to diagnose your condition. Once you know whether you have problems with gluten—you can develop an action plan for healthier eating.

So does following a gluten-free diet mean all your food will be boring and taste like cardboard? Hardly! I'm on a no-wheat diet and I've found delicious breads and crackers that are made without wheat (my personal favorite is a millet-flax bread).

Many grains and starches such as buckwheat, corn, flax, millet, rice and tapioca can still be part of a gluten-free eating plan. And so can beans, eggs, nuts, fresh meats, fruits and vegetables.

What's more, many specialty food stores offer tasty products that are clearly labeled as gluten-free. This can take some of the hassle out of your trips to the grocery store!

Sueson Vess, consultant, food coach and author of gluten-free cookbooks, offers several suggestions on how to cook delicious meals that won't tie your stomach in knots—or put your life at risk! You might consider checking out her website at www.specialeats.com.

People with celiac disease who make the effort to eat a gluten-free diet often reduce their symptoms and experience fewer complications from the disease. Surely the sacrifices you might make will pale in comparison to the years of healthy living you may gain!
