Even though it’s not chemo, turn down this treatment
If You Knew THIS Might Happen,
Would You Still Get This
Prostate Treatment?
Even the National Institutes of Health is vague about what the appropriate treatment for prostate cancer is. In essence, they say, “It depends.”
Yet men diagnosed with prostate cancer are routinely subjected to a specific treatment anyway, especially if the cancer has spread.
Today I’m going to give you five compelling reasons you might want to reject this treatment. What’s more, doctors routinely conceal at least one of these problems from their patients. And it causes great emotional and relational trauma.

Curing Breast Cancer Without Surgery? Great Start to the New Year!
Consider This New, Easy Way To Treat Small Breast Tumors
|
|
Cryoablation—also known as cryotherapy or cryosurgery—involves the use of controlled freeze-and-thaw cycles to destroy cancer cells in both malignant and benign tumors.
In 2012, IceCure Medical Ltd. of Israel successfully used their IceSense3 cryoablation procedure on four breast cancer patients to treat small, early stage breast cancer tumors (fibroadenomas).
Traditionally, a surgical biopsy was the only option for removing these tumors. But cryoablation provides a less invasive option that even the Food and Drug Administration approves for treating fibroadenomas.
IceSense3 has been developed specifically for breast tumors and uses ultrasound imaging to guide thin, hollow needles into the tumor.
Doctors then use liquid nitrogen or argon gas to cool the end of the needle to -274 F (-170 C). This turns the tumor into a ball of ice and allows your body to reabsorb the dead cells over time.
Use of the probe also helps ensure that only breast tumor cells are killed—leaving surrounding tissues unharmed.
Eisuke Fukuma, MD, PhD, Chairman of the Breast Center at Kameda Medical Center in Kamogawa City, Japan, is leader of a clinical trial that will eventually involve 30 small early stage breast cancer patients. Four have been treated as of the latest information I have.
In a company statement, Dr. Fukuma said “this procedure is an exciting step towards moving treatment of small, early stage breast cancer tumors from open surgery to a minimally invasive cryoablation procedure.”
What are the pros and cons
of this treatment?
of this treatment?
Cryoablation has been used for years to treat both malignant and benign tumors. Over 400 published studies document the clinical value of cryotherapy to treat prostate cancer.
And recent studies show ten-year cure rates as high as 90% for low risk (presumably early stage) patients. This represents the same success rate as surgery or radiation treatments.
I actually think cryotherapy sounds like a more reasonable approach for early-stage breast cancer than for prostate cancer (see Issue #110 for my take on the latter). Situated deep within the body, the prostate is harder to reach with the probes and it’s more difficult to identify all the tumors and their precise locations.
But when treating breast cancer with freezing probes it sounds like it’s fairly easy to get where you want to go, kill only cancer cells, and get out with no damage to healthy tissue.
Recent technological advances have resulted in smaller probes that are easier to manage. These are ideal for use in treating breast cancer.
This new breast cancer treatment provides several advantages, including:
- No hospitalization required—the procedure can be performed safely in a doctor’s office or breast center.
- No anesthesia or sutures needed—this helps minimize any risk of infection or reactions to anesthetics, such as heart attack or stroke.
- No invasive surgery involved—the 5 to 15-minute procedure helps speed recovery time.
- No huge medical bills—cryoablation costs less than cancer surgery which may require lengthy hospital stays, anesthesia and prescription drugs.
- No pain or scar tissue—most patients report minimal pain with the procedures and have little to no scarring within six months.
Now in all fairness, you must consider the less favorable aspect of cryoablation. In my opinion, it’s very minor, but I’ll mention it: It DOES involve the use of needles. Small and thin though they may be… some folks just can’t stomach them.
You’ll need to endure a needle for the local anesthesia as well as the one used to administer the gases to freeze the tumor cells. I don’t know why this would bother a person any more than being cut with a scalpel, but some people might have a different take.
U.S. researchers achieve similar results
In 2010, Peter J. Littrup, M.D., reported encouraging results in a study of 13 breast cancer patients who refused surgery. He’s an interventional radiologist and director of imaging research and image-guided therapy for the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan.
In a Science Daily article, Dr. Littrup explained that researchers inserted several needle-like probes through the skin at even spaces, which delivered the cold gas directly to the tumor.
A major difference between this study and prior methods of breast cryotherapy is the use of two or more probes to deliver the cold gas. Prior breast cryotherapy studies used only a single cryoprobe.
Littrup said early researchers also suggested that breast tumors larger than 1.5 centimeters could not be adequately treated with cryoablation.
But this assertion ignores the fact that men’s prostate glands—which average 5 centimeters—have been treated successfully with cryoablation for more than a decade!
When treating prostates with cryoablation, doctors typically use more than six probes to transfer the deadly cold temperatures throughout the whole gland.
Littrup’s team used this concept to attack breast tumors to ensure that the freezing gas saturated all areas of the women’s tumors.
Many medical professionals are encouraged by results of cryotherapy as a breast cancer treatment. One of the most positive results from the Michigan study is that the patients didn’t have to undergo additional surgery, aimed at proving the cancer tumors had been treated completely, following multi-probe cryoablation.
Although he stressed the need for more large studies on the use of this approach, Dr. Littrup said he believes cryotherapy will allow “accurate targeting of more difficult-to-see breast tumors.”
The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 40,000 people will die from breast cancer in 2013. Cryoablation could be a promising new treatment to help cut that number down to size!

Why Most Health Foods are a Waste of Money
By Lee Euler
You can take vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants by the handful and stillsuffer poor health. Now we know why. Our diets lack a vital food -- a type of nutrient that even alternative doctors don’t know about. Thanks to this supplement, a mother’s lifelong migraines disappeared, and a man with "terminal" kidney cancer was alive 15 years later. He’s just one of thousands of cancer patients who have taken this supplement and seen remarkable results.
There’s more: It’s one of the most popular pain relievers in Germany, used by that country’s Olympic team to help athletes get rid of pain and accelerate healing from sports injuries. It outperforms prescription blood clot drugs—in my opinion, patients should take this supplement instead of blood-thinning drugs like warfarin. And it even helps 9 out of 10 autistic children. The mother of a 7-year-old autistic child starting giving him this supplement after reading my Special Report The Missing Ingredient—and he started speaking after having been nonverbal his whole life! How can ONE supplement possibly do all this? Just ask yourself: What if you were getting NO vitamins in your diet? You’d be very sick. This nutrient is just as important and you’re getting almost none. Read more here about The Missing Ingredient, and consider trying it yourself. Missing Ingredient |
Drugs that contain metals have been used since the 1970s to treat some types of cancer. Most commonly this involves platinum compounds such as cisplatin and its derivatives.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), cisplatin (brand name Platinol®) is appropriate to treat various cancers including:
- Bladder
- Brain
- Head and neck
- Lung
- Ovaries
- Testicles
Cisplatin binds to DNA and interferes with the cell division process. The damaged DNA signals DNA repair mechanisms to swing into action, which in turn activate apoptosis—the process that causes cancer cells to self-destruct.
But because it’s not very selective, cisplatin can also stunt the growth of normal body cells too.
This causes many of the same side effects seen with other chemotherapy drugs, and in some cases can lead to kidney problems and hearing loss.
Now there’s a chance that new research has uncovered a more effective method for using metals to clobber cancer. According to a Brooklyn College statement, Dr. Maria Contél, associate professor of chemistry, recently received a $1.4 million NIH grant to continue researching a gold-titanium combination that could be used to fight renal and prostate cancer.
The researchers previously received a $467,860 three-year grant from NIH to create an alternative cancer therapy that is less toxic than platinum-based compounds.
“It means the NIH appreciated our productivity under the first grant and warmed up to the idea of studying organometallic compounds as potential chemotherapeutics. It is perhaps changing minds at the NIH,” Dr. Contel said.
So how would the new combo
metal treatment work?
metal treatment work?
Combination therapeutics includes administering two or more drugs in order to reach different targets.
Doctors could inject a medication consisting of one metal to target cell nuclei and another to damage the cell powerhouse, the mitochondria. The aim would be to damage cancer cell DNA and thereby activate the cell’s self-repair process, which actually results in apoptosis or “cell suicide” instead.
Dr. Contel said that for the new grant, her team produced “preliminary results on a gold/titanium treatment that inhibited certain mechanisms of prostate and kidney cancer in a way different to cisplatin while killing the cancer cells.”
In essence, the gold-titanium combination would be used to target and destroy different parts of cancer cells while leaving other cells unharmed.
But Contel warns that it’s no small feat to go from researching this type of treatment to developing a successful commercial drug.
"If you’re amazingly lucky, you may see one of your findings enter the market. Only 5 of 5,000 compounds evaluated in preclinical studies will get the approval of the FDA. The whole process to develop a new drug takes an average of 10 to 15 years," Contel said.
Other groups join the ‘gold rush’
for cancer cures!
for cancer cures!
In addition to Dr. Contel’s research into combining metal therapies, other groups are researching the use of gold nanoparticles as a promising cancer treatment.
Cytimmune Sciences of Rockville, MD recently published preliminary results of a phase 1 clinical trial of a targeted chemotherapy treatment called Aurimuneis.
Their treatment attaches a molecule of the tumor-killing agent called tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF) to gold nanoparticles.
The researchers also bind a molecule of Thiol-derivatized polyethylene glycol (PEG-THIOL) to hide the TNF nanoparticle from the immune system. The gold nanoparticles are able to travel through the patient’s bloodstream without the gatekeepers of the immune system kicking them out. This ensures that the tumor-killing substance will be delivered to the disease site.
A Cytimmune statement said the Phase 1 clinical trial data indicate that Aurimuneis “preferentially delivered to the site of disease with minimal accumulation in healthy tissue.”
A team of University of Arizona researchers has developed another targeted therapy for delivering cancer drugs inside gold-coated liposomes.
The invention was spearheaded by Dr Marek Romanowski, an associate professor of biomedical engineering in the University of Arizona (UA) College of Engineering in Tucson.
Dr. Romanowski worked with graduate students Xenia Kachur and Sarah Leung to develop a method for gold-coated liposomes to deliver cancer drugs in controlled doses without harming healthy body cells.
Liposomes are tiny capsules used to transport materials inside cells. In chemotherapy treatment, they enclose the cancer drug in a skin made of fats already present in human cells.
This covering prevents the patient’s immune system from launching an attack before the chemo drugs are delivered to the cancer site.
Only after the liposomes enter openings in the cancer tumors do they break down, releasing the drug that kills the cancer cells. The researchers experimented with using infrared light to control the amount of drugs that are released at one time.
All of these efforts are designed to improve cancer drug delivery and lessen the harmful effects of chemotherapy on healthy tissue.
Of course, you might want to consider alternative cancer treatments that don’t subject any part of your body to harsh synthetic drugs. But it is good to know that scientists continue their quest for less invasive and abrasive treatment regiments!

Doctors who prescribe chemo don't tell you this
If you think cancer "experts" are hiding something...you're right!
Cancer researchers pride themselves on making great strides toward finding the causes and treatments for cancer.
And as they're supposed to in professional medical journals, they publish details about the problems they're addressing… the methodologies they use… the type of people who take part in the studies… the conclusions they reach… Or do they? Continued below...
When it comes to investigating chemotherapy treatments, one group of researchers doesn't think so.
This new finding comes from Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada. A team led by Ian F. Tannock, MD, FRCPC, PhD, scoured 164 journal articles published over 16 years and made this startling discovery:
The researchers were hiding information about
chemotherapy drug side effects!
The group published their results on Jan. 9, 2013 on the Annals of Oncology website. According to their research, not even one-third of reports on clinical trials for breast cancer chemotherapy medications contained detailed data on side effects and adverse drug events.
I don't know about you… but I don't believe for one second that any chemo cocktail could have been THAT good! Not only were these breast cancer drug researchers underreporting side effects—but they also went out of their way to report more positive treatment outcomes. In other words, these studies aren't valid scientific reports. They're disguised sales pieces for chemo drugs. Think about what this means for cancer doctors and their patients…
Did someone call for a spin doctor?
Doctors are busy, just like most people. To stay current on the latest research, they don't read entire journal articles. They tend to read abstracts - brief summaries provided at the top of the articles -- to get the gist of the findings.
Dr. Tannock's group found that two-thirds of the drug studies they examined don't mention serious side effects in these summaries. This held true not only for chemotherapy studies but for cancer studies involving surgery and radiation as well. The Canadian researchers found similar omissions in the discussion sections and results tables. This means most doctors prescribing treatments are not aware of the full range of potential side effects. (Actually, the problem goes well beyond cancer drugs. Doctors spend little time educating patients about side effects for ANY prescription drug. It's up to you to find out for yourself.)
The corrupt world of peer-reviewed journals
Dr. Tannock told Reuters about another disturbing trend they noticed in the studies they reviewed: Researchers for these breast cancer drug studies had a tendency to change the definition of success.
Specifically, Dr. Tannock said if a treatment didn't produce stellar results, some researchers just choose a different set of results to report—regardless of whether the study was designed to test them. Just so we're clear… drug companies often provide the money to study the cancer concoctions they intend to market. So researchers are under pressure to produce glowing reports, or risk seeing research dollars disappear. Some may try to hang on to their virginity, but it seems the drug companies have no trouble finding scientists for sale. I recently had a behind-the-scenes look at this world of peer-reviewed published research. Sometimes a big-name doctor's name is listed among the authors even though he or she didn't really do anything. A well-known doctor can supplement his income by lending his name to companies trying to get a scientific seal of approval on their products. And lesser known, working scientists want their studies published in prestigious journals. If they frame their research in a positive light, it increases their chances for publication, additional grants, career promotion and tenure. But this win-win deal for drug companies and the researchers who do their bidding is a sure loser for cancer patients who are kept in the dark about drug side effects.
One rotten egg that made it to market…
You've probably heard drug commercials that spend maybe 55 seconds describing the benefits—then in the last five seconds a fast-talking motor-mouth comes on, the volume is turned down, and they rattle off a quick list of warnings and side effects.
These are just the dangers that are so common they feel required to tell you about them. Imagine how long the commercial would be if they included unreported side effects! The practice of underreporting bad effects helps explain how the drug Avastin® could have made its way to pharmacies. In February 2008, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave an accelerated approval to use Avastin in combination with the cancer drug paclitaxel to treat metastatic breast cancer. Adding Avastin supposedly prevented angiogenesis -- blood vessels growing on tumors to nourish them. An FDA news release said the speedy approval was based on promising results from one study that suggested Avastin could extend a cancer patient's life. Avastin's maker, Genentech, completed two additional clinical trials after the drug was approved and submitted data from those studies to the FDA. What did these results show?
In the end, the agency revoked Avastin's approval for breast cancer treatment less than three years after approving it for that use.
FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret A. Hamburg said, "After reviewing the available studies it is clear that women who take Avastin for metastatic breast cancer risk potentially life-threatening side effects without proof that the use of Avastin will provide a benefit in terms of delay in tumor growth that would justify those risks." And get a load of the side effects some women experienced during the time the drug was approved for use as a breast cancer treatment…
Before you think warm and fuzzy thoughts about the agency revoking its use as breast cancer treatment—remember it's still on the market to treat other cancers.
What's more, Dr. Hamburg actually invited Avastin's drugmaker to TRY AGAIN stating, "I encourage Genentech to consider additional studies to identify if there are select subgroups of women suffering from breast cancer who might benefit from this drug." |

The best cancer food these scientists could find
Out of 14 foods studied by scientists for the ability to stop breast cancer cell growth, papaya outshone them all.
The list of foods they examined included avocado, fuava, mango, prickly pear cactus, pineapple, grapes, tomato and papaya. They measured beta-carotene, total plant phenolics, gallic acid, and antioxidant capacity.
According to the International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition (May 2009) papaya was the only one with significant success at halting breast cancer cells.
So what is it in papaya that induces cancer cell death?
Scientists believe it may be organo-sulfur compounds called isothiocyanates.
Animal experiments show that isothiocyanates protect against cancers of the breast, lung, pancreas, colon, prostate, and leukemia. What's more, they believe this protection may also apply to humans.
Isothiocyanates are believed to be capable of inhibiting both the initiation and development of cancer cells, through many pathways and mechanisms.1
Japanese researchers found that an isothiocyanate known as BITC controls the relationship between cell cycle regulation and appropriate cell death. As you probably know, when cancer cells die on schedule they're not a problem. It's their tendency to be almost immortal that makes them so deadly.
These researchers found that BITC's cancer-killing properties were more effective against proliferating cells than dormant ones — and of course the proliferating ones are the highly dangerous ones.2

Groundbreaking research on lab-grown tumors
Along with colleagues in Japan, University of Florida researcher Nam Dang, M.D. and Ph.D., documented papaya's dramatic anticancer properties versus several lab-grown tumors (including cervical, breast, liver, lung and pancreas).3
These researchers made an extract from dried papaya leaves, and exposed 10 types of cancer cell cultures to four different strengths of papaya for 24 hours. Papaya slowed the growth of tumors in all the cultures, but larger doses had stronger anticancer effects.
They also found that papaya leaf extract boosts the key signaling molecules called Th1-type cytokines, important for regulating your immune system.
You'd be happy to know that the papaya extract had no toxic effects on any normal cells — a problem with many cancer therapies, notably conventional ones. Papaya's success in this regard lines up with reports from indigenous populations in Australia and Vietnam, according to Dang, of the UF Shands Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office. It's important to note that papaya leaf extract is not the same as the fruit, but these findings suggest that both have the power to kill cancer cells.
A researcher at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Bharat B. Aggarwal, Ph.D., is so convinced of papaya's awesome health powers that he personally eats a serving of papaya every day.
Of course, you'd already know papaya can lick cancer if you owned a copy of our Complete Guide to Alternative Cancer Treatments. You can get a free copy of this 460-page book by joining our "platinum club," the Alternative Cancer Research Institute.
In the Complete Guide, an Australian man named Stan Sheldon, diagnosed with lung cancer in 1962, had this to say about papaya: "I was dying from cancer in both lungs when it was suggested to me as an old Aboriginal remedy. I tried it for two months and then I was required to have a chest X-ray.... They told me both lungs were clear."
That's an amazing story, and I certainly can't promise results like that. But if I had cancer I think I might add papaya to my diet! It sure can't hurt.

I tried it for two months and then I was required to have a chest X-ray.... They told me both lungs were clear."
That's an amazing story, and I certainly can't promise results like that. But if I had cancer I think I might add papaya to my diet! It sure can't hurt.
The papain miracle — fights rogue proteins and more...
The reason for papaya's health-promoting powers is most likely papain — papaya's signature enzyme — found in both the fruit and the leaves.
Papain is a powerful proteolytic enzyme that facilitates chemical reactions within your body. It helps break down long-chain food proteins into small bits -- amino acids or short-chain peptides -- that your body can use. Proteolytic enzymes protect you from inflammation, and digest unwanted scar tissue both on your skin and under its surface.
Proteolytic enzymes like papain are powerful agents against cancer, heart and artery disease, arthritis pain and a whole range of other medical conditions. You can learn more about them in a Special Report I wrote myself called The Missing Ingredient for Good Health. I take enzymes daily and recommend them to everyone.
Unfortunately, as you age, your body's own production of digestive enzymes goes down, leaving you with excessive undigested proteins that can cause a shortfall of amino acids and an excess of unwanted bacteria and other toxins.
If undigested proteins penetrate your gut and escape into your bloodstream, they are treated by your immune system as invaders. Too many of these escapees, and your immune system gets overworked and can't keep up.
Eating papaya counteracts that problem, aids digestion and also helps replenish friendly intestinal bacteria. Papain provides the proteolytic power you need to free up your immune system to do its normal work.
Proteolytic enzymes can also digest and destroy the defense mechanisms of viruses, tumors, allergens, yeasts, and some types of fungus. Once their shield is destroyed, these menacing organisms are extremely vulnerable and your immune system can easily oust them.

The awesome cancer-fighting power of lycopene
Papaya's orange-yellow-pink coloring is the visible sign of an awesome group of cancer-fighting carotenoids. The fruit boasts high amounts of beta-carotene, but lycopene (a powerful antioxidant) is also abundant.
University of Illinois scientists believe these antioxidants may be another reason why papaya is such a powerful cancer fighter.
This hypothesis seems to be backed by epidemiological studies, which show an inverse relationship between lycopene and prostate cancer risk. The higher a person's lycopene levels, the lower his risk of prostate cancer. And the good news is that oral lycopene is highly bioavailable and accumulates in prostate tissue.
Other experiments indicate that lycopene provokes cancer cell death, prevents metastasis, and encourages protective enzymes.4 If you're new to this newsletter, "metastasis" is the word for cancer spreading from the original site to other parts of the body. It's the signal for late stage cancer, which is very hard to cure.
An Australian study evaluated 130 prostate cancer patients and 274 hospitalized controls.
They found that men consuming the most lycopene-rich fruits and veggies (like papaya) were 82 percent LESS likely to get prostate cancer. Green tea also showed a powerful anti-cancer effect. And the synergistic effect of both together was even better.5

Wipes out intestinal parasites
As mentioned earlier, papain improves digestion by breaking down protein and cleansing your digestive tract.
This means papain may destroy many an intestinal parasite, because parasites are mostly protein. Researchers Mariam Naseem and Muhammed Kamran at the University of Karachi, India, note that in Nigeria, 76.7 percent of children were able to shake off intestinal parasites in just seven days by drinking the juice of papaya seeds. If those results can be confirmed, they amount to a breakthrough in parasite treatment.
Similarly, if your body fails to break down proteins from your food, you're left with undigested protein that can make its way into your colon and contribute to gassiness, bloating, indigestion, and more.

Also of value if you care about heart health
(and who doesn't?)
(and who doesn't?)
Papaya is also a naturally occurring blood thinner that can reduce your risk of blood clots and optimize blood flow. It does this because the papain enzyme in papaya breaks down fibrin, the protein in the blood that creates clots and helps make blood thick and viscous. If you reduce fibrin levels you slash your risk of blood clots, which are the immediate cause of most strokes and heart attacks.
Papaya seeds also promote a healthy heart, by way of three powerful antioxidants — vitamins A, C, and E. Carotenoid phytonutrients in your body help prevent oxidation of cholesterol — which is the process that makes cholesterol stick to the walls of your blood vessels and form plaques that can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
Papaya's high fiber also has a cholesterol-controlling effect on your body.

Protects your eyes from macular degeneration
As you probably know, age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) can cause blurred vision, eventually leading to blindness. The antioxidant beta-carotene, which gives the orange color to papaya, is known to help prevent macular degeneration, according to a study published in the Archives of Ophthalmology. But note that it takes three or more servings of beta-carotene-rich fruits per day to lower your risk of macular degeneration.
And more...
As you might expect of a whole food, papaya has extensive benefits throughout your system. Here's a quick list:
- General nutrition — nutrients such as carotenes, flavonoid and vitamin C, vitamin B, fiber, magnesium…
- Relief from toothache — you can massage it on teeth and gums for relief
- Skin — great as a rejuvenator and used in many cosmetics. Kills dead cells and purifies skin when used as a facial mask. Also used for disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, sores, wounds and ulcers.
- Anti-inflammatory — reduce inflammation systemically
- Female hormones — may help regularize menstrual periods by normalizing hormones
- Arthritis — its proteolytic enzymes may help control both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
Trouble in paradise: the risky side of papaya
Naturally, there's a caveat. And it's a biggie...
The vast majority (statistics vary, but around 80% seems to be the norm) of Hawaiian papayas are genetically modified. And cross-contamination to non-GMO crops is widespread throughout Hawaii — to the outrage of non-GMO growers.
The U.S. does not ban genetically modified papayas. But if you're reading this from Europe, you should be safe… the information we have indicates GMO papayas are banned in the EU.
One other caveat… due to its papain, it may be contra-indicated if you're on blood thinners or undergoing surgery soon. All proteolytic enzymes thin the blood. Consult your doctor on this. My recommendation is to wean yourself off pharmaceutical blood thinners by using natural proteolytic enzymes to do the same job.

How to shop for papayas
The first thing you'll want to consider is buying organic. NOP standards prohibit GMO products from being labeled "organic".
Do not be deceived by the "natural" label, however. So-called natural foods can (and do) include GMO foods. The use of the word is almost completely unregulated.
We tried to find out for you which varieties are most likely to be genetically modified — or not — so you could avoid them. This is not an all-inclusive list, but it's a starting point to help you shop wisely. Please know that any GMO list is a moving target these days, and may change almost without notice. So it's a good idea to confirm this with your own research.
Non-GMO varieties:

Non-GMO varieties:
- Solo / Kapoho Solo
- Tainung No. 1
- Mexican Red / Mexican Yellow
- Orange Queen
GMO varieties:
- Rainbow
- Kamiya / Laie Gold / Kamiah
- Sunrise / SunUp
Incidentally, papaya has other names… including Papaw or Paw Paw (Australian), Mamao (Brazilian), or Tree Melon.
The two main varieties are from Hawaii and Mexico. And as already noted, most Hawaiian papayas are genetically modified. Mexican papayas can be as large as 20 pounds and 15 inches. Phew!
Like bananas, papayas turn from green to yellow as they ripen, which happens quickly at room temperature or in a paper bag.
If you can find organic and non-GMO sources, papaya can be a terrific adjunct to the rest of your healthy diet and provide an abundance of benefits — certainly including its cancer capabilities.
