Big Train Best Braves 4-2; MCEA Teacher Appreciation Night TONIGHT!

Big Train Back on Track, Best Braves 4-2

After suffering their first loss in five games on Saturday evening, the Big Train got back on track Sunday, defeating the FCA Herdon Braves 4-2.

Danny Mooney (Davidson) got the start for Bethesda, and gave the team his second straight quality start. Mooney gave up just two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings while striking out three.
The first Big Train run of the evening came on an RBI single from Johnny Cole (Coastal Carolina) in the first inning. Cole drove in David Del Grande(Sacramento State), who'd reached on a leadoff single. Cole now has four RBIs in his last six games.
Four innings later, with the game tied at 1-1, the Big Train would grab their first lead of the game. After a leadoff double by Ryne Willard (Tallahassee CC) and a single by Tim Yandel (Tulane), Del Grande smashed a ground ball towards third base which was mishandled by the Braves' third baseman for an error and a 2-1 Big Train lead.
The Braves would come back to tie the game at two in the sixth inning, but two shutout innings of relief by Kit Scheetz (Virginia Tech) would keep the score tied heading into the bottom of the eighth.
The first three batters of the inning reached base for the Big Train in the bottom of the eighth, setting up a bases-loaded situation with no outs. After the next two batters were retired, manager Sal Colangelo turned to Big Train veteran Tucker Tobin (George Mason) to come up with a big hit off the bench with two outs. Tobin responded in the clutch situation, sneaking a two-RBI single through the infield to make the score 4-2.
Cody Mizelle (Florida Atlantic) would then come on for the top of the ninth, pitching a perfect inning to grab the save and secure the Big Train's fifth victory on the season. With the victory, the Big Train hold on to a share of first place with a 5-2 record.
The Big Train will look to gain sole possession of first place as they take on the team they are tied with, the Gaithersburg Giants, tonight. It'sMCEA/MCPS Teacher Appreciation Night, so teachers and their families get free admission and students get tickets at a discounted price! First pitch is set for 7:30 PM, so come on out!
