Bullycide and School Shootings Became The Center Of The Nations Attention!
On 20th April, 1999 it all started at Columbine High School when two young boys schemed and carried out an act so sinister, so wicked and so lethal that absolutely nobody could have been geared up for what was to occur. Armed with guns and with bombs located in exact places to cause as many fatalities as possible, on this day in history bullycide and school shootings became the center of the nation's attention.

The two youths were both victims of bullying. Feeling totally alone, their isolation led to depression, quickly developing into anger which in turn encouraged them to commit this horrendous crime. As a final point, following the bloodshed of twelve innocent lives being taken in this way, the two youths committed suicide.

The world as a whole tried to make sense of the incident. Regrettably, parents and teachers had not seen or recognized the signs. Although bullying is a pandemic within schools, it is a shocking, but true fact that the situation is not yet taken seriously. Furthermore, very few schools have procedures of any description in place to deal with this type of aggression. In denial, some even advocate that what happened at Columbine High School was an isolated incident.

Recently, however, bullying has taken on a whole new significance. The Virginia Tech shooting was the well known straw which broke the camel's back. On this occasion, there were apparent and exact signals that something was amiss. The boy who carried out these evil deeds was also bullied at school. He spent a lot of time on his own just thinking about how he could avenge those who had caused him harm. He prepared his plan and then executed it. Coincidentally, on 16th April, 2007, exactly eight years to the month the tragedy occurred at Columbine High School, thirty two pupils were killed at Virginia Tech. The troubled youth responsible for his, Seung-Hui Cho, also took his own life, continuing the sequence of school shootings involving bullying.

Today, we are still observing haphazard acts of violence with bloodshed as a consequence. So who stirred the sleeping monster? How did bullying soar to this level? All the indications were there just waiting to be spotted and acted upon .Parents and educators who chose not to see or intervene only contributed to make this situation even worse.

Take a look at the teenage bullying commemorative pages from Virginia Tech, and ask yourself if this tragedy could have been avoided. Surely the parent's of the boy in question must have sensed something was wrong? The pupils interviewed in connection with this incident told of the boy being a loner, not well known by anyone of them in particular, except for his roomies', who having given this extra thought, admitted that there had been clear signs that all was not well with the youth - something which could not have been said by any school officials.

When a child is bullied he is thrown into a world of terror and mistrust and these feelings rule his every movement. Although he will reveal absolutely none of his feelings in his eyes, he may well write down his thoughts in great detail, as did Seung-Hui Cho. His abhorrence for those who harmed him in his former school years developed into the eventual act of retribution. His despair gave way to his ultimate battle against those he considered to be his foes.

What would have happened if intervention had taken place and he had received proper help much earlier on by his parents or school officials taking him for counseling right at the very beginning of him being bullied? It's all so easy to say "what if" now!

Perhaps this quotation says it all: "There is no better way to take apart a character than to separate it." The two boys who executed the bullycide and school shootings were totally cut off and because the bullying had not been dealt with from the beginning, the only tranquility they felt they could achieve was in committing the final act of aggression.

This does not make these violent and brutal actions tolerable - No way!

For someone to prepare and implement such annihilation is a needless and horrendous tragedy - it's unspeakable! There are no words to express the heart break of leaving friends and relations to bear the loss of their loved ones.

This only proves that bullying, and even talk of bullycide and school shootings, has to be taken very seriously, by no means underestimating the situation and treating it as "urgent" in order to stop more lives being lost in this way.

 Leadership Attitude: The Stockdale Paradox

By: Harris Murray

James B. Stockdale was one of the highly respected Vice admiral in the history of United States Navy. He set a remarkable example and won many awards for his high levels of spirit, courage and endurance. He was also Vice Presidential candidate in 1992.

James Stockdale was prisoner of war from September 9, 1965 to February 12, 1973 in Vietnam War. Stockdale credited that his stoic nature helped him to survive as a Prisoner of War.

Jim Collins included Stockdale philosophy as Stockdale Paradox in his renowned book ‘Good to Great’ as "confronting the brutal fact of the situation, yet at the same time, never give up hope."

When interviewed by Jim Collins about Vietnamese Prisoner of War (POW) camp, Stockdale said "I never lost faith in the end of the story, I never doubted not only that I would get out, but also that I would prevail in the end and turn the experience into the defining event of my life, which, in retrospect, I would not trade."

And when asked about who didn't make it out, Stockdale replied, "Oh, that’s easy, the optimists. Oh, they were the ones who said, 'We're going to be out by Christmas.' And Christmas would come, and Christmas would go. Then they'd say, 'We're going to be out by Easter.' And Easter would come, and Easter would go. And then Thanksgiving, and then it would be Christmas again. And they died of a broken heart."

Stockdale was born in Abingdon, Illinois in 1923. He graduated from Naval Academy in 1947 and joined Naval air station Pensacola, Florida for flight training. He received masters in International relations and Marxist theory from Stanford University and later preferred to be a fighter pilot. He rose through ranks quickly and reached highest position as a fighter squadron commander.

Stockdale was held as Prisoner of War in 1965 in North Vietnam while working on a mission in Vietnam War. There he was sent to one of the most infamous Hao Lo prison where he was brutally tortured physically and mentally. In the seven years where he was kept captive as prisoner of war, despite severely beaten, malnourished, asphyxiated, and spent few years in total dark room, he never succumbed to the North Vietnam captors.

During his seven years as POW, he resisted to cooperate with the captors, even when he was placed in solitary confinement. He was locked with leg irons in a bath stall, beaten, and whipped. He resisted them using him for propaganda by hurting himself relentlessly. When Stockdale came to know that he was to be paraded in public before foreign journalists by captors, he slashed his scalp with a razor to disfigure himself, so that the captors do not take him and use him for propaganda. When they put a hat, he had beaten his face with a stool to be swollen beyond recognition. When captors told him that other POWs are dying under torture, he slit his wrists to show that he preferred death rather to capitulate.

His uncanny determination is widely respected. He received ‘Medal of Honor’ in 1976, the highest military decoration awarded by the US government along with 26 other personal combat decorations.

These two absolutely inspiring BodyRockers are proof of the amazing things that can happen when you put aside your excuse, and focus on what will truly make you happy: health, confidence and strength. It all starts here  — keep reading!

Meet Yve

My journey started in 2013 with a sleeve surgery. Due to many health problems, the doctors decided to operate me. This gave me my ass kick and I wanted to change my life.
I've tried a lot of sports, but in 2015 I happened upon BodyRock by accident.  And I was scared. The exercises were amazing, and I did the workouts now and then, but then I abandoned it. In 2017, my weight loss had stalled again and I needed a new push. I started regularly with BodyRock again and quickly made progress. I love the workouts and make time to do them 5-6 times a week. I even wear one of the weighted vests.
Lisa inspires and motivates me again and again. Even though I haven't lost any weight the last few months, my body is still changing. I feel great and fit.

I feel so home in the BodyRock Insiders Group and I love the love and support all us members get there. Thank you Lisa and Sean. You're always there and keep me on track. I can't tell you in words how much you have changed my life.

Meet Lazina

It's been two weeks since I decided to take care of me first. I decided to restart BodyRock and eating healthy. I am making me a priority. The left picture is the day I started two weeks ago and the picture on right in black is today. I have lost 12lbs and 19 1/2 inches. I am doing my BodyRock workout and taking my Corgi for a 1-2 mile walk every day. I  am also doing intermittent fasting. I fast from 8pm-12pm. This picture was a little easier to post than the first one. I appreciate all of the support from all my BodyRock family. I thank Lisa, Sean and Freddy for BodyRock.

Are you a BodyRocker who wants to share her or his story with us? We’d love to hear it! Submit your stories to lisa@bodyrock.tv.
But first! Are you a member of our BodyRock Insider’s Group on Facebook? If not, now’s the time to join. This is where our FitFam convenes to talk shop, asking questions and receiving advice on fitness, nutrition and life in general.

iHealthTube Featuring: Gut Health and Your Heart–What You Should Know and Plant Based Diet

We're learning more and more about the connection to our gut health and many other aspects of our health. Here, Dr. Joel Kahn discusses some of the new things that are being learned about that connection to gut health and our heart health. Find out what one meal actually can do to the response of your gut!

Plant Based Diet

By: Michael Balducci

What if one simple change could put you on a path to better health? And what if that change could even save you from obesity, heart disease and cancer? You have the power to transform your life by maintaining a plant based diet – no ifs about it.

While many omnivores feel that a meal without meat just doesn’t feel like a meal, the vegan and vegetarian plant based lifestyle is growing in popularity just the same – and with good reason. A plant based diet moves away from animal-based foods like meat, eggs and milk, and incorporates more fruit, vegetables, legumes and grains. The less meat and dairy you eat the less fat you take in. This goes a long way when it comes to maintaining healthy weight and cholesterol levels.

If you’re wondering whether you should try out a plant based diet, consider the top five benefits listed below. Keep in mind that you don’t have to jump into a full-on vegan diet or vegetarian diet. Just limiting your intake of meat, poultry and dairy, and increasing vegetables, fruit and grains can do wonders for your health.

Top Five Benefits of a Plant Based Diet

1.) Lower Cholesterol
Going green can dramatically lower the amount of LDL cholesterol in your blood – the bad kind that can lead to heart disease and stroke. Avoid butter, cut out fatty meats and opt for plant-based foods. Dairy and animal products are loaded with fat and have no fiber. Plant based foods contain no cholesterol whatsoever. That means vegan nutrition is much better for your heart and your health. It’s even been proven by a recent study out of St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, which found that a low-fat plant based diet can lower LDL cholesterol by 28 percent.
2.) Lower Blood Pressure
When you eat fatty meats and dairy products, the viscosity of your blood increases, placing more pressure on the blood vessels. A plant based diet fills you up with veggies and fruit, which are high in potassium. Higher intake of potassium modulates blood viscosity. This is why vegetarians and vegans tend to have lower rates of hypertension, "the silent killer," according to observational studies published in the Nutrition Review.
3.) Prevent Cancer
High-fat diets have been linked to higher rates of cancer. In fact the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s Cancer Project showed vegetarians to be 40 percent less likely to develop cancer than meat-eaters. Meat tends to be high in saturated fat and low in fiber. Fiber plays a key role in keeping your digestive system clean and healthy, removing cancer-causing compounds before they can create harm. A vegetarian diet and vegan diet are high in fiber, low in saturated and trans-fats and typically include more fruit, vegetables and other cancer-preventing phytochemicals.
4.) Avoid Heart Disease
The American Heart Association says 83 million Americans have some form of cardiovascular disease, and many of the risk factors, such as obesity, are at all-time highs. But you reduce your risk. Research has found that a balanced, low-fat, plant based diet can help reduce cholesterol, contribute to weight loss and lower blood pressure. All of which lead to heart problems.

5.) Maintain Healthy Weight & Fitness
Those who follow a plant based, vegan or vegetarian diet generally consume fewer calories and have lower body weights than those who don't, according to the Mayo Clinic. Still, a plant based diet doesn't guarantee weight loss. You’ll want to keep your intake of sweets and fatty foods low, choose whole grains, eat a variety of fruit and vegetables, and choose fat-free and low-fat dairy products. Also remember that cooking method counts. Steam, boil, grill or roast instead of frying. Your new diet will even give you renewed energy for physical exercise.

How to Transition to a Plant Based Diet
Aside from simply avoiding meat, there are ways to ease the transition to a primarily plant based diet. Increase the amount of grains, fruits and vegetables on your plate gradually until the meat is the smallest portion of your meal. An online vegan delivery service can make the process simple.

Inverness is a city in Citrus County, Florida --- Dash cam video released Monday shows the moments a man tried to avoid getting caught with a stolen truck, shooting at authorities before crashing the truck Sunday morning in Citrus County.

The owner of the stolen truck told he felt helpless seeing his vehicle used for crimes. Lucas Williams discovered it was missing Sunday morning while he was at work at a fire station. “My wife called me on her way to work saying ‘Hey, did one of your friends pick up your truck to work on it?' I said 'No,’” said Williams. He reported it stolen. The truck ended up miles away at a house on Muzzle Loaders Court in Inverness. A neighbor saw a social media post about the stolen truck and called it in to authorities when she saw it in her neighbor’s yard.

When Citrus County deputies showed up, the deputies said the suspected thief, Travis Lovett, 22, took out a neighbor’s fence and tried to run deputies over to get away. "Lovett deliberately drove the stolen vehicle towards one of the deputies, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck, before striking a fence and leaving," the sheriff's office said. "While trying to elude deputies, Lovett intentionally accelerated at another responding deputy, forcing the deputy off the roadway to avoid a collision."
Citrus deputies and Florida Highway Patrol chased him for two hours through Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties. FHP dash cam video captured the moment the suspect even fired shots at them, a bullet piercing a trooper’s windshield. Williams said he saw the footage on TV. “I’m not behind the wheel, but I’m watching it do criminal acts where it’s putting people’s lives in jeopardy and my sole purpose in life is to help people. So it kind of makes your stomach turn,” said Williams. Investigators said Lovett drove recklessly through Inverness and Floral City, driving into oncoming traffic and nearly striking pedestrians in order to lose the following deputies.

"When we have a suspect who is hell-bent on avoiding all contact with law enforcement, their behavior becomes unpredictable and erratic," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Pendergrast. "This is especially true if they are dead set on not being caught, then they will risk their life, the lives of innocent citizens, and the lives of all our law enforcement deputies." Troopers outmaneuvered the suspect, causing him to flip and crash. Lovett was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to Bayonet Point, then transferred to Tampa General Hospital. He is listed in serious but stable condition. He was most recently in jail for grand theft auto in January, according to FHP reports. The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said Lovett will be charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated fleeing/eluding of law enforcement. Charges from FHP are pending. Deputies are looking to identify any additional victims who sustained damage from the incident. Anyone affected is asked to call 352-726-1121 to file a report. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear....

— 1 John 4:18
  View Previous Devo

Receiving means “taking; accepting; admitting; embracing; believing; entertaining."
We conducted a survey at our office, asking our employees what one of their greatest concerns was in their walk with God. The number one response was, “When can I know that I am doing enough?”
Perfectionism is fueled with the tyranny of the shoulds and oughts. It is the constant nagging feeling of never doing well enough or being good enough. Perfectionists usually have low self-esteem, and they hope that more perfection in their performance will allow them to feel better about themselves.
If we never feel quite good enough about ourselves, it is easy to believe that God is not satisfied with us either.
Learning to love yourself is the essence of receiving God’s love. It is the ointment that brings healing to your wounded soul. When you receive God’s love and learn to love yourself because of it, you’ll find rest and be free from the disappointment of perfectionism.
Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to receive Your love today and relax in the confidence that You are pleased with me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Train Your Spirit

Titus 2:12, The Amplified Bible

When an athlete goes into training, he practices to improve his skills. He works hard, repeating the same motions over and over until they become what we’d call “second nature” to him.
Most of us understand how crucial that kind of training is in the physical realm. We know that you simply can’t be a winner without it. But did you know we can train ourselves that same way where spiritual things are concerned?
That’s right! Hebrews 5:14 says we can train our senses to discern between good and evil. When you train, or practice, for something, you expose yourself daily to whatever it is you want to become. You practice it over and over until it becomes second nature to you. People who are lazy have practiced being lazy. People who are disciplined have practiced being disciplined.
Spending time with God is “spirit” practice. As you do it diligently, your spirit will grow stronger and will start to overcome the habits of the flesh.
If, for example, you have trouble getting up in the morning to spend time with God before the busyness of the day begins, if you’ve been giving in to your flesh and staying in bed, then you’ll have to start practicing getting up. The more you practice it, the easier it will be.
Don’t expect yourself to do it perfectly right from the beginning. Don’t get discouraged when you stumble and fail. You’re just out of practice. Get back on your feet and go at it again!
Become a spiritual athlete. Put yourself in training by practicing the things of God. Build your spirit muscles through fellowship with Him. You will be surprised to find just how much of a winner you can be.
