The Right Tennis Movements

By: Patrick Muller

What is the right footwork for a tennis player? How to move well on the tennis court? I will try to answer these questions in order to help you to improve your tennis game.

Tennis movements are very various and there are many different ways to move on a tennis court. Tennis is a complex activity that involves movements in every direction in order to get to the balls but also to recover. The best tennis players are the ones using a right technique in their movements but also the ones that are able to do this very quickly.

First of all a tennis player needs to execute a split step before every shot. This split step is done while the opponent hits the ball. It is a very small and short hop that allows you to be on the ball of your feet in a wide stance. The player will then be ready to move in any direction. This is the basis to have a good footwork. A split step has to be done before every single shot and allows the player to be light on his feet and to be ready to move to the ball.

A tennis player rarely does more than 4 steps to go to the ball. It is then very important to be explosive and quick on the first steps. Depending or where the ball is going to bounce the player will have to move in a different way. Being able to read the shot of your opponent is a key in order to move well.

If the ball is going to bounce next to you usually one side step is enough to be in the right positions. If the ball is deep you will have to move back very quick in order to hit the ball while you are moving forward. If you are late you will still be off balance while you are hitting and then the shot will not be efficient.

For most of the shots the player will have to move around 3 steps to the backhand or forehand side. The most efficient way is to move forward and in diagonal to the ball. After the split test, step forward with the leading leg in the direction of the ball and at the same time push off the ground with the opposite foot. This will allow you to have an explosive and quick first step. Once the leading leg is back on the ground push off hard on the ground and bring your other leg in front of you, then set you up and you should be able to hit an efficient shot.

If you have to run for a short ball, right after the split step explode forward an avoid doing a step back. This is a common mistake that costs time. Your first step has to be forward in the direction of the ball.

Moving to the ball is one thing but now you need to recover well in order to be ready for the next shot. The most efficient way after a shot is to do a cross over step and then to side step back This is a lot quicker and more efficient than doing only side steps to recover.

All those different steps need a good coordination and of course they need to be practiced. A lot of tennis players could be a lot better if they were using a correct technique while they move to the ball and recover. The best way to train movements is agility training on the court. Moving to a cone, doing a shadow and recovering at the starting point are good drills to improve the movements. Because there is no tennis balls involved the player can really focus on his movements and learn the right technique. After a little while he will not think about, it will be automatic and then he will be able to use this with live balls.

How to Increase Jump Ability

By: Andrew Garfield

As natural as breathing seems to be, jumping for the majority of people is just as natural; however, for some, the natural ability to jump higher is greater than that of other individuals. It is commonly misconceived that taller people can jump higher; but studies have shown that shorter people actually usually have a better vertical jumping ability. There is a way to increase your jumping height. Several workouts and exercises are meant to help in this manner; however, there are specific ones that help increase your vertical jumping abilities. The way this is accomplished is by utilizing the muscles that are used for jumping and thereby toning them for your maximum power during your jump. These jumping exercises are known as plyometrics, and are known to be the most effective means of How to Increase Jump abilities. There are other exercises, as well, that can help you jump higher if that is your goal

Just as when you start any type of exercise routine, there are considerations that you want to take into account before beginning any type of jumping training program. You know your body better than anyone and you also know the fitness level that you can handle. This will prove to be important information, as the level of training you can tackle will have much to do with how much your body can handle and how often. You will want to consider what types of exercises will be best for your body shape and the level of fitness that you want to achieve. Plyometrics and training in resistance are the most popular routes to take for this type of training. Those that are experienced enough will combine these two training types to obtain the best results. For particular sports, such as basketball, these two types of training have proven results as far as being able to increase your jump height.

The most basic plyometrics are those of jumping, hopping, or bounding. You are to do these exercises rapidly, boldly, and explosively. A jump is considered when both of the feet land together at the same time. When you begin the jump, it is not necessary for both feet to jump together, as one may be slightly forward of the other. There are many different types of jumps and each require different takeoffs and landings. Hopping on one foot can produce a lot of strain on the hopping foot, as constant striking is occurring to the same foot hop after hop. Bounding is where you take off on one foot and land on the other. Again, there are a variety of ways that this can be done.

If you want to improve your endurance and strength, it is a good idea to perform resistance training. This also helps you maintain your speed. There are weights involved, but they are lighter than average weights and you use them in a continual fashion which helps increase your speed, strength, and endurance. It is a good idea to find a trainer that is versed in this type of training in order to avoid becoming injured by doing the exercises improperly.

The Truth About Cancer Featuring: 9 Ways to Stop Sugar Cravings in Their Tracks and Cutting Down on Sugar Will Lead to Healthier Teeth

Sugar addiction is real. And it hurts almost every system of your body. Watch this video to learn how to quit sugar.
To give you an idea of just how our sugar habits have changed over the centuries, consider this: In 1700 AD, the average person consumed about 4 pounds of sugar per year. Today, according to The Washington Post, the average American consumes about 100 pounds of sugar every year. This is about 126 grams every day — more than twice the World Health Organization recommendation and the highest in the world!

The connection between sugar and cancer growth and metastasis is perhaps the biggest (and scariest) link of all. If you are interested in living a vital, healthy life, then you probably already know that sugar is the literal “food” for cancer.

Watch the full video to learn how to stop sugar cravings naturally, what to eat to stop sugar cravings, and how to ultimately kick it to the curb.

Cutting Down on Sugar Will Lead to Healthier Teeth

By: Ron Barbanell

Sugary foods sure do taste good, but the only good they are doing is electrifying your taste buds. The ugly truth about sugar is it causes weight gain, high cholesterol levels, cardiovascular disease and even affects your mental awareness. Even worse, sugar is a big factor when it comes to tooth decay and periodontal disease. We're marking up sugar to be the bad guy, because it is!

Of course, you cannot cut sugar completely out of your life. It exists in plenty of processed foods, not just in candy and sodas. You'd have to go cold-turkey on a lot of your favorites, including cereals, saucy foods, potato chips and especially ice cream. Even healthier options like apples and citrus fruits have a high sugar concentration. Sugar is bountiful in our diets, but if you cut down the sugar intake, your oral and overall health will both see a huge difference!

How to Cut Back on Sugar

Cutting down on sugar is pretty easy if you think about it. You control what type of foods and drinks go into your mouth after all. So, let's take a look at some of the most common sugar fiends that exist.

Let's start with sodas! Sodas make the most sense. Let's look at their sugar concentration. In a regular 12oz. can, most sodas have anywhere between 30-50g of sugar. That's a lot! Cutting out sodas completely may cause you to go through withdrawal symptoms including anxiety, so medical experts believe a greater alternative is to start cutting your soda intake by half in moderation until soda is no longer something you're drinking on a needless basis.

What's wrong with sport drinks? Unless you're an active athlete, you don't need to be drinking sport drinks day in and day out. While they may have a high number of electrolytes, it also has plenty of sugar. Sport drinks are meant to get athletes through their sport, and you'll often see them drink plenty of water too. If you have a sport drink regularly without combining it with physical activity, it could lead to weight gain and sensitive teeth.

Say goodbye to processed foods! Amongst the many things in your diet, cookies, cakes, pastries and breakfast cereals are notorious for their high sugar concentration. For better or worse, the only benefits these foods provide is a sugar rush that'll have you craving sugar throughout the rest of the day. There's plenty of other options you can try instead that're just as fulfilling, including oat foods, unsalted raw nuts and fruit-based snacks.

Throw away the candies and sweets! One thing that we've grown accustomed to is a limitless supply of candy. Candy tastes good, and we keep plenty of it near us for satisfying our taste buds. That's terrible! If you're a candy lover, not only are you exposing your teeth to dangerous sugar amounts, but you're ruining your sense of taste! Start cutting back on the amount of candies you eat and focus more on fresh fruits, sugar-free gum and even dark chocolate.

Ways Your Teeth Benefit from Less Sugar Consumption

Our teeth are very important to us and cutting down on sugar is perhaps one of the greatest things we can do for them. When you consume sugar, the millions of bacteria in your mouth feed on it, breaking it down into an acid that eats at our teeth. As a result, it can cause tooth decay. The funny part is, sipping from a 12oz. can is worse than chugging down a 2-liter bottle as you're exposing your teeth to sugar longer, letting bacteria do its finest work inside your mouth.

So, by cutting down on sugar you can stop tooth decay! Other things that can help prevent tooth decay alongside cutting down your sugar consumption is chewing sugar-free gum to promote salivation, brushing your teeth before breakfast and after dinner, and flossing to clean the other half of your teeth a toothbrush can't reach.

Sugary foods also cause teeth discoloration. It's embarrassing to have yellow or brown teeth, especially since your smile is the biggest first impression you can make with anyone, beating out other factors such as body language, appearance and quality of speech. Teeth staining is largely due to sugary drinks, coffee and tea. Moreover, soft drinks also cause cavities, which can turn your teeth black. By cutting down sugar in your diet, you can stop your teeth from turning into weird colors.

Your significant other will love this too! If you cut down on sugar, you'll have better breath! All those acids that are a result of sugar consumption actually smell, and it's easy to tell. To see just how bad your breath smells after drinking a soda, wait 30 minutes and lick the palm of your hand, then smell it. You'll definitely notice a difference!

Lastly, you'll feel a difference in your oral health. Your teeth will feel healthier, stronger and not as sensitive, it'll feel like weight has been lifted off of your teeth.

As a final note, you don't have to cut our sugar completely, just consume less sugar than you have been. Sugar itself is everywhere and is near impossible to avoid. However, so long as you take the initiative to eat and drink less sugary foods you should be just fine. This also includes that you brush your teeth, floss, use mouthwash and visit the dentist on a bi-annual basis to get your cleanings done.

Self-Defense Advice - Be Ready To Adapt And Act

By: G J Thomas

In the first instance in any dangerous confrontation you should try to run away. Escape, evade, SURVIVE. If things get physical then you should expect to sustain an injury of some sort, even if it's just a scratch or a bruise. Running away means no scratches and no bruises. Do not be too proud to run.

All self-defense training should put plenty of focus on running away, because by running away you stand the best chance of survival. That's just the way it is. Humans have the "fight or flight" mentality built-in, but you should reverse those words and think about the flight before the fight. If you are fortunate enough to see a good escape route running away is definitely the smartest thing you can do, whether you feel cowardly or not. Which would you prefer to be, a sensible living person or a brave dead one? No brainer.

When confronted by an attacker think, adapt, and act fast

In any confrontational situation you should expect the worst and be prepared for it, that is why you train yourself, but you should also expect the unexpected. Learning to escape from a knife attack is one thing, but what if your assailant has friends coming around the corner just as you turn to run away? What if you manage to stop your attacker and knock him down, only to slip and fall as you make your escape? In seconds he is on top of you, and you are in a more dangerous position than before. Be alert, be aware, and be prepared to adapt to any situation and use any advantage you can find.

Any training that you choose should incorporate methods to deal with unexpected twists and crazy scenarios. The simple but effective techniques that you can teach yourself fairly quickly will work in a lot of situations - that is why these techniques are taught, but at some point you may find yourself in a far less straight-forward confrontation where you need a little bit extra. Life throws random difficulties at us all the time, so it's important to be as ready as you can for something to happen that makes the dangerous scenario you are in even worse.

A distraction could be the key to your escape

If somebody nearby shouts and it momentarily distracts your attackers you can use this to your advantage. If a crowd of people turns the corner and starts walking your way should you shout for help? A police siren in the distance may provide enough of a distraction for you to turn and run. Expect to be shocked, expect to be scared, and be prepared to make quick, smart decisions. Taking advantage of an unexpected event might make all the difference.

Think about what you do, where you go, and who you go with, and try imagining what you would do if two men with knifes attacked you. Or maybe they grab your companion and threaten her. How about the difference between being attacked in an open space versus a tight, cramped alleyway? Maybe you work in a shop and are worried about somebody jumping over the counter and what you should do. Put yourself in complicated situations and think of ways that it could get even worse. Picture yourself there, and use your training to work out how you would survive.
  • Is there anything you can do to distract your attacker?
  • What do you do if your attackers are a group of females?
  • What can you do if you are carrying an injury and can barely walk?
  • What do you do if your assailants surround you?
Always remember, the key to every situation is to SURVIVE. You are not trying to look good, you are not there to be brave, your only intention is to survive by any means necessary. If you are in a position where somebody is threatening you with a knife or gun, then your attacker is demonstrating that he is prepared to KILL YOU if you do not comply. You need to know what to do and you need to be prepared to act quickly and decisively. If your survival means running away then do it, but if you are forced to protect yourself, or to fight off an attacker, then ensure that you are as prepared as you possibly can be.

The Benefits of Drinking a Gallon of Water a Day

A person's hydration depends on a number of different factors, including their size as well as their activity level. Many professionals recommend that we drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day in order to stay hydrated which comes out to be around half a gallon.
However, others believe that we need more water than that and recommend that we instead drink a gallon of water per day.
Learn more @ SodaStream.com

The Importance of Drinking Water

To ensure that your body continues to perform at optimal levels, it is important that you stay hydrated. However, you also need to keep in mind that hydration needs are going to vary per person, so what is good for one may not be good enough for the next person. So, any recommendations may need to be adjusted.
With proper hydration, you will reap several health benefits, including:
  • Enhanced Performance. When hydrated, you can effectively prevent fatigue, control your body temperature, and reduce stress during your workouts.
  • Manage Weight. Drinking water also helps increase your satiety and improves your metabolic rate, which in turn helps you lose and manage your weight.
  • Improve Brain Functions. With adequate hydration, you will have improved memory and cognitive abilities.
  • Better Skin. With hydration also comes moisturized skin and increased skin elasticity.

Keeping Up with Hydration

If you want to strive to drink a gallon of water each day, you may quickly find that it is not an easy task to accomplish - at first. With too much water, you may begin to feel bloated, and you will also find that you are spending more time on bathroom breaks.
However, you will definitely not be dehydrated, and you may even sleep better at night, eat a healthier diet, have clearer skin, and tons more energy.
After a week or so of upping your water intake, you might also find yourself making better-snacking choices. Instead of reaching for the sweets, you might instead choose an apple or other fresh fruit and vegetables.
In the following weeks, you may feel thirsty, even though you have increased your water intake over the last several weeks.

How to Drink More Water

As you amp up to increase your water intake to a gallon each day, we have a few tips you can take along with you to make it easier to remember to stay hydrated.
  • Morning Water. When you first wake up, start the day with a 16-ounce glass of water.
  • Don't Skip the Coffee. You also don't have to feel the need to ditch your morning coffee. You can have a cup of coffee or tea and still hit your goal.
  • Skip the Sugar. Try to refrain from adding sugar and other additives to your water. The extra sugar will just intensify your thirst later in the day.
  • Following a healthy diet complete with smarter snacking options is also good for replenishing your electrolytes. Fruit, nuts, string cheese, tomatoes, and unsweetened Greek yogurt are all healthy snacking options and are ideal for after a workout.
  • Sparkling Water. If you are finding it hard to completely ditch the soda and sugary and carbonated drinks to focus on water, then you can choose sparkling water over flat water. It will hydrate you just as well as regular water would.

Can You Drink Too Much Water?

Drinking a gallon of water per day is definitely achievable for some, but many others will find that it is just too much. If you aren't sure if you should be increasing your water intake, there are a few things you can watch for to help you decide.
For example, if you notice that your urine is a dark yellow color, then you may be dehydrated. You may also experience dry mouth, headaches, cracked lips, and even muscle cramps. All of these are signs that you should increase your water intake.
You should also avoid drinking too much water too fast. When you do this, your sodium levels may begin to drop, which is a condition known as hyponatremia. This can be a serious and sometimes fatal condition.

Listen to Your Body

The absolute best thing you can do is stop and just listen to your body. Let how you feel determine how much water you should be drinking each day.
Yes, there are general guidelines for how much water to drink per day, but you also have to base these guidelines on other factors, including your own needs.
Whether you drink a gallon of water a day or stick to your 8 glasses, staying hydrated has several benefits for your health and is something you will want to try to stay focused on rather than reaching for those sugary drinks.

The Rock Almighty Devotional, Praise, and Worship with Fit For A King

January 4 From CDM

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Jesus, who was holy and blameless, became a curse for us when He chose to receive our sins. He took them to the grave but rose without them, so that we could receive forgiveness.
