D.C. Divas Announce 2018 Season Schedule and Home Field

Divas Set to Return to Landover for 2018 Campaign

Washington, DC – The D.C. Divas announced their schedule for the 2018 season today, once again taking on some of the top competition in all of women’s football. The Divas also announced that they will be returning to the Prince George’s Sports Complex as their home field in 2018, making their home in Landover for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.

The D.C. Divas are the winningest team in women’s football history, earning a record 126 victories against just 40 losses in 17 seasons of play. The Divas have won three national championships in 2006, 2015, and 2016, and they were the first team in the history of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) to win back-to-back national championships with their titles in 2015 and 2016.

The Divas embrace playing one of the toughest schedules in women’s football; the Divas’ strength of schedule has been ranked as one of the two most difficult in the sport eight of the last nine years. D.C. Divas fans will see another outstanding slate of home games in 2018, featuring some of the best competition women’s football has to offer.

The 2018 D.C. Divas will make their home debut on Saturday, April 21, against the Philadelphia Phantomz. In last year’s season opener, the Divas went on the road and held off the Phantomz for a competitive 28-8 victory. Philadelphia, which competed last season in the WFA’s Division II, finished second in the regular season in WFA2’s Northeast Region and will be a strong contender for postseason honors again this year.

The Divas then return home in mid-May for the start of a daunting two-game home stand. First, the Divas welcome their archrivals, the Boston Renegades, to D.C. on May 19. The Renegades, the defending WFA Eastern Conference champions, eliminated the Divas from the playoffs last season by a 27-24 score. Their appearance in D.C. last year resulted in a dramatic 26-22 overtime win for the Renegades, and this year’s contest should feature the same level of excitement and competitive play. Boston has competed in four of the last eight national title games – winning three – and has compiled an 82-12 record over the last nine seasons.

Just one week later, the D.C. Divas will host their longtime rivals, the Pittsburgh Passion, in a Memorial Day weekend game on May 26. The Divas topped the Passion in thrilling fashion last season in D.C., securing a 35-34 overtime win on the final play of the game. Pittsburgh has assembled a record of 92-19 over the past 11 seasons.

Finally, on June 9, the D.C. Divas will conclude their 2018 regular season with a special home game against the venerable New York Sharks. Holding an overall record of 124-44 over 19 seasons of play, the Sharks rank second all-time in victories in women’s football history, two behind the Divas’ 126. The New York Sharks have announced that their 20th season of play in 2018 will be their last, making the June 9th contest against the Divas the final regular season game in the Sharks’ storied history. The Sharks’ regular season finale will be a contest between the two winningest teams in the sport’s history, two franchises with a combined 250 victories between them.

The Divas will play their 2018 home games at Prince George’s Sports Complex in Landover, Maryland. After one year in Northern Virginia, the Divas are returning to their familiar surroundings across the street from FedEx Field in Landover. Prince George’s Sports Complex was the Divas’ home field from 2006-2016, and the Divas are pleased to be returning to Landover for their 2018 campaign.

How to Choose a College

Since education is closely intertwined with society’s "to do" for one’s success; going to college is one of the major decisions a person has to make in building a career and future. That is why choosing the right college that best fits one’s personality and interests is just as important.

Choosing a college because everyone is going there or because it belongs to the top-rank school listing does not take into account who you are, what you want and who you become. It is important to remember that what makes one school the perfect college for one may prove to be one you will regret. Nevertheless, there are essential factors that students should consider in how to choose a college.

Type of Institution. Schools are generally private or public. Public schools are primarily funded by the state where they are located. These colleges provide excellent education at a price much lower than private colleges. However, private colleges offer generous financial aids. It pays to consider both public and private colleges.

Academic Goals. This is a key factor in choosing a college. You need to consider what you really want to be trained in. Be sure to pursue a course or major that interests you, not just one that will lead you to a good career. If you are inclined to take up a certain course or major, take time to evaluate the college’s facilities and offerings in that area to make sure the school has adequate resources.

School Size/Population. Schools may range from a small college with just under 5,000 students or a large university with up to 50,000+ students. A large university usually offers a wide choice of course and majors including up-to-date facilities whereas small colleges offer smaller classes as well as bigger chances to participate in campus activities. However, facilities may be limited. Think it over – Will you be overwhelmed by a large population or be challenged to excel in such an environment?

Campus Setting/Environment. Enjoying college life will largely depend on one’s day-today existence in a college campus. The physical environment of the college may be a major factor. Some people prefer the modern lifestyle of a metropolitan city while others relish a more rural setting. The social scene inside the campus – extracurricular activities, fraternities and sororities, athletics and even the racial mix can have a significant effect on campus life. Where will you be most comfortable and happiest living the next four years of your life?

Financial Aid. A major hurdle in attending college to many is how to pay for it. Most colleges offer scholarship packages to students who have excelled in academics, the performing arts or athletics. Financial aid may also come in the form of grants from companies, study loans and work study. The latter is generally a job offered on or off campus.

Recommendations. A positive way to start the school search is to talk to teachers, counselors, friends and family especially your parents. These people will have sound advice and since they know you, will most likely recommend a school that they see will fit you.
