Salt in your diet

United-Games-300x250.pngSalt has often been deemed the 'bad guy' of meal planning. Although we especially in the west tend to abuse this nutrient, it is still an essential nutrient that if implemented into your meal plan properly; can be a major player in your healthy lifestyle.
-Nate

Salt in your diet.
Many people regard salt as just another item on the list of "bad foods" that should be avoided in our diet. They mistakenly believe that excessive salt, or sodium, intake will lead to high blood pressure, or hypertension.

When people talk about salt in the diet they are usually referring to table salt or sodium chloride. In fact, sodium chloride is just one of many salts that are in our food.

Chemically a food is described as a salt when it shares common chemical characteristics. We can recognize these chemicals on food labels when we see the tags --ide (as in chloride), --ate (as in borate) or --ite (as in sulfite). If you take a look at the labels on prepared foods you can understand why we don't need to add table salt to our diet. If we don't have a diet high in fresh foods there's a good chance we've already consumed far more salt than we need.

Interestingly, research has shown that salt has little or no effect on most people with normal blood pressure as well as many people with hypertension. There are, however, many individuals who are salt sensitive. They react unfavorably to salt in any form because it puts strain on the kidneys, increasing blood volume. If the arteries are unable to dilate sufficiently to accommodate this increased blood volume, blood pressure will rise.

Depending on who you ask, most health promotion educators recommend that adults limit sodium intake to 1000 milligrams per day--that's about one teaspoon. To reduce the amount of salt in your diet, minimize the amount of canned and processed foods, smoked meats, condiments, chips, and soft drinks you consume.

Of course, it's always a good idea to discuss health concerns with your physician, but moderation seems to be the key in most dietary matters, including salt.

Lose Weight and Get Pregnant - 33 Pounds lost and new baby on the way for Jessica!Lose Weight and Get Pregnant – 33 Pounds lost and new baby on the way for Jessica!

Lose Weight and Get Pregnant – Jessica’s lost 33 pounds and finally became pregnant after trying for 3 years!

I LOVE Jessica’s story, and I’m so happy to share it today! Jessica had been trying to get pregnant for 3 years to no avail. She was about to give up, but had discovered Hitch Fit. She realized that she needed to first put some focus on herself and getting to a healthier place! She tackled the 16 week Hitch Fit Online Weight Loss Plan –Lose Weight Feel Great. Despite an extremely busy schedule, working as a police officer and caring for her children, she did an incredible job, placing her health as a top priority. She lost 33 pounds in 16 weeks, but what was more amazing was with one week left in her plan, she discovered…she was Pregnant!!! I am so excited for Jessica and the new addition to she and her husband’s family. Here is her inspiring story, and I have a feeling you will be seeing her again post baby!!

(A note: losing weight does not guarantee that you will get pregnant if its something you are struggling with, but doctors do recommend losing weight if you are having trouble conceiving since being a healthy weight has a major impact on the ability to do so. Being overweight can cause a list of pregnancy complications, as does being underweight.)

Jessica’s Stats:

Starting weight: 215

Ending weight: 182

Starting body fat ( online calculator): 46%

Ending body fat ( online calculator): 36%

Jessica’s Story:

“I have always been the “bigger girl.” In high school, I struggled to find clothes that fit and looked like what everyone else was wearing. I had to shop in the “special” (segregated) sections for plus size women. I had NEVER felt comfortable in my own skin. I kept picturing myself in cute, smaller clothing. What I saw in my head, did not match what I saw in the mirror.

In college, I lost some weight. But that was because I was a poor college student who didn’t want to spend too much money on food, so I didn’t. Of course I lost weight, but it came right back.

After I started my career as a police officer, my weight leveled out for a while. I had to get into shape to graduate from the academy. I was shown how to do some weight lifting, but my workouts were mainly running to pass the physical fitness test.

I then met the love of my life, a fellow law enforcement officer. We got married in 2006. My husband is a gym enthusiast. He got me interested in the gym life, but it wasn’t enough. I would always find a reason not to go to the gym. We work opposite shifts, so without him there to push or pull me to the gym, I just didn’t feel like going.

We decided to start a family. I quickly became pregnant. I know my starting weight was 206 lbs. In June of 2008, our first son was born. I don’t know what my post pregnancy weight was because, I didn’t care. How could I? We were too focused on our beautiful baby boy.

We then decided to add to our family. After trying for 11 months, I became pregnant. Again, my starting weight was 206. In December of 2011, our second son was born. I noticed that I had gained and retained more weight that time. At one point, I weighed 230 lbs. I looked at photos of me from the baptism in July of 2012. I was not happy with what I saw.

I began to try to work out more, but without my husband there, I had no idea of what to do in the gym. I felt out of place and uncomfortable. I began searching for something to help. I joined the “2013 New Year’s Challenge” at our community center’s gym. I found a 12-week online workout plan. It helped give me confidence in the weight room. It told me what to do, how many to do, and in what order. However, it did not give me a nutrition plan. I continued to eat the way I had been for years. In fact, sometimes, my husband and I would “reward” ourselves for a good workout by eating out or partaking in ice cream.

At the end of the 12 weeks, I had lost about 25 pounds. I made it back to 206 lbs. I could have sworn that I was destined to stay at 206 for the rest of my life. I could NOT get below 200! I continued to use the workout plan, but I started to notice that my weight was beginning to creep back up. I began to lose motivation. Why should I continue to work out, if it was not going to help?

Meanwhile, life continued to get more hectic. Our boys were getting older. They began to have more school functions and they are getting more involved in activities. So my gym time became less important as the schedule became fuller and fuller. Also, at the end of 2013, my husband and I decided to try for a third child. I tried to not tax my body too much. I pulled back on the intensity of my workouts and stopped taking some of the supplements I had been taking.

In 2014, I began to hear about Hitch Fit. I graduated high school with Hitch Fit Trainer, Sara Sutherland. I had seen her progress and results on Facebook. I was very intrigued. Then while I was on the treadmill at the gym, I saw multiple segments about Hitch Fit on Better Kansas City. I became more and more interested. I went home and looked over the website. I shared what I found with my husband. What I was seeing was really making sense to me, but I just wasn’t ready. I mean I was trying to get pregnant, why would I buy a weight loss program that I would have to stop or put on hold. But it always stayed in the back of my mind.

In 2015, I was still not pregnant and my weight had gotten up to 215 lbs. I had begun to give up on getting pregnant, I needed to start focusing on me. I had put off Hitch Fit because I wanted to get pregnant, but maybe I needed to get myself healthy and in shape for that to even happen.

I had wanted to do the bikini body program, but I was carrying so much extra weight I had to start with getting down to a healthier weight. So in July of 2015, I purchased the 16 week “Lose Weight, Feel Great” program. I was soon contacted by Diana. I filled out a questionnaire and explained why I needed to start this journey. I had LOTS of questions. With my shift work, I was concerned about eating my 5-6 meals at the optimal times. My sleep schedule, workout time and duration were different for each shift, which also threw off my meal times. I was determined to get it right this time

There were also lots of challenges. Like I had mentioned, my husband and I work different shifts, so while one of us is at work, the other is alone with our boys. We are what we call “married, single parents.” When we are not at work, we have the sole responsibility to take the boys to their activities, keep up the house work, make meals, etc. So finding time to get to the gym (when the daycare was open) AND make the healthy meals that my body needed, was not easy. My husband helped by cooking meat in batches, so all I needed to do was get the veggies and carbs cooked. We never got into the “meal prepping” we just had items available in the fridge, which worked for us!

I kept in contact with Diana, weekly. I updated her with my weight and measurements, my workouts, and my nutritional adherence. It kept me motivated. I loved reporting that my weight kept going down; my measurements were getting smaller. If I had any questions, I could ask and would have an answer!

By the end of my 16 week program, I had lost 33 lbs and about 9-10 inches off of my body! I had gone from 215 lbs to 182 lbs. But my most welcome surprise was that with only one week left in my program, I found out that I was pregnant with our third child! I had gotten my body healthy enough, so that after almost 3 years of trying, I had finally become pregnant.

This is only my beginning! You have finished reading only the first chapter of my story. After the birth of my baby, I plan on getting back to this weight and then moving forward with the bikini plan. I have goals that are yet to be met, so watch for me, I plan on going far.”

3 Steps to Overcome Overeating

United-Games-728x90.pngLet's face it, the extra pounds you're carrying around are due to overeating - plain and simple.

Why do you overeat? Here are a few likely reasons:
  1. Habit: Whether you realize it or not, you eat in a learned pattern, rather than out of need. You clean your plate because that's what your mother taught. You eat what is served without stopping to check if you are full. You butter two pieces of toast for breakfast rather than questioning if one piece would do the job.
  2. Absentminded: You forget to pay attention when you eat. Mindless munching while watching a movie, snacking while driving, or picking at food while cooking - these absentminded calories really add up.
  3. Something Deeper: Sometimes you use food for recreation or to change your mood. These calories may lend you a temporary sense of comfort or pleasure, but ultimately your body suffers from the indulgence.
Here are 3 Steps To Overcome Overeating - read these, and apply them to your life.

Step #1: Pay Attention

Be aware of what and how much you eat. This simple concept will save you from hundreds upon hundreds of calories each week.

To apply this rule, don't eat while your attention is distracted by another activity. Only put food in your mouth when you are hungry and conscious of it. This means turn off the T.V., get out of your car, and no matter what you do, don't graze in the kitchen while cooking.

Step #2: Practice Balance

Be aware of the types of food that you eat during each meal, and make sure that it's balanced. When you eat a balanced diet filled with lean protein, whole grains, lots of veggies, a few daily servings of fruit and limited fat and sweets, your body will be satisfied and you'll lose the urge to overeat.

This means you shouldn't always eat carb-based meals, and you also shouldn't always eat high-fat meals. Make a mental checklist of the food groups that you've eaten each day. Did you eat lean protein? Did you have plenty of vegetables? Did you refrain from eating more than one or two primarily carb-based meals? This mental checklist will save you from making food decisions that you'd later regret.

Step #3: Be Tuned In

Your body will always tell you when its hunger has been satisfied - you've just gotten so good at ignoring the signs that you barrel through your meal only to feel like you've been hit by a ton of bricks once all that food hits your stomach. It's time to take a deep breath and listen to your body.

An important part of being tuned in is to eat slowly. Once you start to pay attention you'll notice a point when each bite becomes less and less satisfying. That is your body's way of letting you know that you've had enough and that each continued bite is simply overkill (yes, even if you're only halfway through that plate of pasta).

By learning how to control your eating habits, you'll find weight loss to come simply and naturally.

Want to speed up your weight loss, make it permanent, and shape your body at the same time? I've got what it takes to get you there! No guess work, no fad diets, and no super long workouts.

The Sweetest Scam of All Time

Nate-@-Gilman-2.jpgUnited-Games-300x250.png

The correct answer to the following question will shock you.

Would you survive longer on a diet of just water OR on a diet of water and refined sugar?

The answer: You would survive longer on just water.

Sound impossible? Just ask the five sailors who were ship wrecked in 1793.

The ship was filled with sugar, thus giving the marooned five a diet of sugar and water. When they were finally picked up, nine days later, they were in a wasted condition due to starvation.

The story of the five sailors intrigued French physiologist Francois Magendie to conduct a series of experiments in which he fed dogs a diet of sugar. All of the dogs died.

Magendie proved that as a steady diet, refined sugar is worse than nothing.

How can sugar be worse than nothing? Plainly put, refined sugar is an anti-nutrient.

It starts out as sugar cane, and then goes through an extensive refining process that destroys all of the enzymes, fiber, vitamins and minerals. What you're left with are empty, naked calories.

The problem is that your body needs the enzymes, fiber, vitamins and minerals that were taken out in the refining process in order to metabolize sugar and use it as energy. So it takes those nutrients from your own body.

So while you are enjoying that chocolate bar, sugar is draining vital nutrients from your body. Like a sweet parasite.

And it doesn't end there…
  • Sugar creates false hunger (as a result of the insulin rush and then ensuing plummet in your blood sugar levels), which makes you overeat. This means a constant struggle with your weight in which you never seem to achieve your ideal size.
  • Sugar promotes aging (due to the advanced glycation end products, or AGEs, that occur when insulin levels are consistently elevated as a result of eating too much sugar). Sugar has even been dubbed the negative fountain of youth.
  • Sugar weakens your bones - making you vulnerable for osteoporosis, and weakens your teeth - making you vulnerable for cavities (both due to the calcium being pulled from your bones and teeth in order for your body to process sugar).
  • Sugar in excess is stored as fat (after your liver has no more room to store it, sugar is converted to fat and deposited on your belly, thighs, hips and the backs of your arms).
  • Sugar can impair brain functioning (as a result of depleted B-vitamin production).
If you're still not convinced of the danger of sugar here are more ailments linked to its overconsumption: varicose veins, constipation, hormonal imbalances, ADD and ADHD, increased emotional instability, depressed immune system, increased risk of cancer and degenerative diseases.

The average modern person consumes 46 teaspoons of sugar every day. That comes out to roughly 175 pounds of sugar each year.

And it's no wonder, since sugar industry is big business. They sneak sugar into any product that they can.

Go through the foods in your home and you'll see that sugar has been added to everything from ketchup and spaghetti sauce to crackers, oatmeal, peanut butter and even ‘healthy' items like weight loss bars.

Where does this leave you?

You are in a unique position. Your personal judgment determines the foods that you eat and the foods that you avoid. It is my hope that you approach sugar with new eyes.

While all other foods offer you caloric energy PLUS some nutritional benefit, sugar doesn't. Sugar is simply caloric energy with a sweet habit forming taste, and a hoard of health risks.

Use your judgment wisely and limit your sugar consumption - you'll love the benefits of low sugar living.

And while you're at it contact me to start a training program that will turbo-charge your results.

(Oh and if you're ever in a ship wreck with only sugar and water at your disposal - just drink the water!)

Program was taken from Feb 24th and on for 12 weeks.

Marten Side
Back in February, 2014, my wife, Karen, asked me to join her to do the Couples’ Bootcamp. I wasn’t keen as, since I am naturally tall and slim, I figured that I was in good shape, but decided to do it with her to encourage her on her fitness journey and to make it easier for her so that she could prep one meal for all of our family to eat. I had no idea of what I was getting into and how much I needed it. It became obvious, very early on, that my sedentary lifestyle and poor eating choices had taken their toll on me. Over the years, I had gone from doing physical work to managing others, eating fast food for lunch and snacks every day, spending too much time in front of the tv. The program quickly showed me just how out of shape I had become, even though from the outside, I looked healthy. I huffed and puffed my way through the cardio, ached through the strength training and had to battle my sweet tooth and cravings every day. I felt like I was 20 years older than I was and wondered where I would be and how I would feel after 12 weeks of this program.

The program was tough but it was an amazing journey for me. It helped so much to know that I would have to check in with Micah every Monday. The accountability helped me stay on the program, answer my questions, get my butt kicked if I had been slacking. Micah provided the nutrition, cardio and strength training expertise…. the whole package! I completed my 12 week program and have continued on this health journey ever since. It’s been almost a year since I started my program and I’m still going strong! Now, I feel 20 years younger and know that I am so much healthier for both myself and my family. Our children have seen my wife and I on our health and fitness journeys and have been encouraged to make health and fitness a priority,
too, so we are all getting healthier as a result. If you are considering becoming your healthiest, fittest self, commit yourself and go for it! I
was uncertain in the beginning, too, but through this Hitchfit program, I have brought out my inner beast for a better, healthier life!

What's Lifestyle Got To Do With It?

mwp_virtual_trainer.jpgIt happens to everyone. That moment when you realize that it's time to do something about your weight.

It may happen when you're looking in the mirror or standing on the scale.

Your first thought is to go on a 'diet' but as quickly as that enters your mind the ghosts of a hundred diets past return...along with all the frustration.

Then you wonder, why bother?

The weight will come back, as it always has. Then you'll be back in front of the mirror as discouraged as ever.

The answer is not to go on another diet.

The answer is to change your lifestyle.

You've heard this before, and it makes sense, right? So why haven't you done it?

Your Lifestyle Obstacles. Most people resist changing their lifestyle for two reasons.

1. Change is scary. Whether you realize it or not, your life is in a constant state of change. Though you cling to the familiar, it's a futile struggle. Change always wins.

The most consistent thing in life is change. Since you'll never escape it, you might as well channel it. It's time to make the change in your life purposeful and positive.

2. Lifestyle misconception. How many times have you heard the term 'healthy lifestyle' only to picture a health nut with celery sticks in one hand and tofu in the other? The truth is that most people think that changing their lifestyle will be an extreme and unpleasant experience - and that's not true.

Improving your lifestyle does not mean swearing off chocolate or living in the gym. You don't have to eat wheat germ for lunch and you can still enjoy a nice plate of pasta. The key is moderation.

Making the Change. It's time to lose your 'all or nothing' mentality. Embrace simple, small changes that will add up to big improvements in your lifestyle. These are your main venues for change:

  • What You Eat. Let's face it, most of the foods you eat aren't the healthiest. Some are downright terrible (the burger and fries you had last week). While others are simply excessive (the snacks you eat while watching TV).

The solution to cleaning up your daily diet is NOT to go back on a 'diet'. In fact, I never want you to go on a 'diet' again. (Yes, you heard me right!) Instead I want you to make permanent healthy changes to your eating habits.

    Here are some practical examples:

    • Choose salad over chips or fries
    • Don't add butter to your food
    • Eat fresh produce with every meal
    • Purchase fat free dairy productsM
    • Limit desserts to one or two per week
    • Cut out mindless snacking
    • Drink water, not soda

I don't expect you to eat a perfect diet every day of the week - that'd be ludicrous. You should, however, make MORE healthy choices every day than unhealthy ones.
  • What You Do. Exercise is a huge component to a healthy lifestyle, and quite frankly you're not getting enough of it. How often does an entire week go by without you ever lacing up your tennis shoes? Don't disregard the importance and power of a good workout.

Your new healthy lifestyle means exercising on most days of the week. This may seem tough, but I have the perfect solution - my training programs were created for busy people just like you who only have so much time to dedicate to exercise.

I understand how hard it is to find the motivation to stay consistent and to push yourself. Make exercise a no-brainer - contact me to get started on a lifestyle enhancing program today.

Here are simple ways to move more:

    • Watch less TV
    • Stretch stiff muscles every day
    • Play at the park with the kids
    • Go for a jog
    • Do some pushups every morning
While none of the above are meant as substitutes for a solid exercise routine, they are great ways to become more active and to improve your lifestyle.
Your lifestyle is the balance of all the choices that you make regarding your body. Swing the balance in your favor - make a majority of your choices health conscious.

So the next time you're in front of the mirror you won't worry about your weight.

You'll relish it.

45 year old weight loss

Despite my starting picture not reflecting it, fitness is a hobby for me. I knew I had not been eating as clean as I normally do, but the pictures really opened my eyes. I was still working out, but admittedly, my intensity was inconsistent so it was definitely time to shake things up.
I had first heard about HitchFit through a local fitness magazine, but it was over a year before I decided to give it a try. Before I made the online purchase though, I had reached out to Micah to ask some questions, one of which being the impact my upcoming shoulder surgery was going to have. Fortunately, Micah’s response was that I could start the program when I was ready. My recovery ended up taking much longer than I had anticipated. Once I did start, I found that there were some exercises that my shoulder wasn’t ready for so I made some substitutions. Additionally, I travel quite a bit, and Micah was great about tailoring my workouts based upon what kind of equipment was available. He also took that into consideration when putting my meal plan together.

Untitled-2 copy
Over the years, I’ve done different programs with mixed results. For me, the diet portion of the programs I did in the past were either too generic or didn’t necessarily fit with my own goals. The diet Micah wrote up for me was the most strict that I’ve ever used, but it made sense to me and without a doubt, it works.

I set some pretty aggressive goals for myself which definitely helped maintain focus. While I didn’t quite make it to my body fat goal, I am happy with the progress I’ve made and hope to help others by inspiring them or offering support. I will continue to pursue my original body fat goal and once there, I want to begin working on my next transformation.

If you are someone who has tried multiple diets or exercise programs with no success and have found yourself frustrated and in a rut, I would recommend trying HitchFit. It’s not easy, but if your commitment level is there, you’ll be pleased with your results

Making sense of food labels.

This is one of the key components to meal planning Athletes and Warriors! So for a quick guide here are some tips from our friends at Strength Engine.
-Nate
Nate-@-Gilman-2.jpg
Making sense of food labels.
A typical supermarket offers about 20,000 different items. Food labels, now required by law on almost every food, can help you choose among the options available.

The most significant part of the new food labels is a new heading that reads Nutrition Facts. That is followed by a list of the serving size of that particular food and the servings per container.

The new labels have more consistent serving sizes that replace those that used to be set by manufacturers. There are mandatory and voluntary dietary components required on food labels. Mandatory data, per serving, listed in the order in which they must appear are: Total Calories, then Calories from fat.

The next mandatory portion of the label provides information about nutrients that are most important to the health of today's consumers and includes:

  • Total Fat (in grams) (and a percentage)
  • Saturated fat (in grams) (and a percentage)
  • Cholesterol (in grams) (and a percentage)
  • Sodium (in grams) (and a percentage)
  • Total Carbohydrates (in grams) (and a percentage)
  • Dietary Fiber (in grams) (and a percentage)
  • Sugars (in grams) (and a percentage)
  • Protein (in grams) (and a percentage)
  • and
  • Vitamin A (in a percentage)
  • Vitamin C (in a percentage)
  • Calcium (in a percentage)
  • Iron (in a percentage)
WARNING: Although this portion of the label is a significant improvement over the previous label which listed carbohydrate, protein, and fat in grams, it can still be misleading. One of the leading health promotion educators has a favorite saying that applies to food labels, "Labels don't lie, but liars write labels."

For example, if a label lists 260 total calories and 120 calories per serving, but under that lists total fat (still in grams) followed by a percentage, most consumers believe that percentage is the percentage fat of the food. In fact, if you look closely, you will see that percentage value is nothing more than % of daily value based on a 2,000 calorie diet. These reference values are intended only to help consumers learn good diet basics. If you don't eat a 2,000 calorie diet, the information is of little use to you.

Go FITNESS Shopping

Nate-@-Gilman-2.jpgjamaal-charles2.jpgMicah-Diana-and-friend-hitchfit.jpg
Did you know that the grocery store is the source for most of your unwanted pounds?

Well, that and the fast food restaurants, but we'll leave that for another day.

If you're like most people then your shopping trips aren't exactly organized. In fact, your grocery cart is likely to be more fat than fit.

The good news is that with a few small modifications to your routine you'll be able to turn your grocery shopping trip into an easy opportunity to slim down.

I've broken down the process of healthy grocery store navigation with an easy-to-remember acronym - FITNESS.

Come, take a walk with me through your grocery store and we'll improve your shape and the shape of your family members.

F: First Veggies
Your mom always told you that you had to eat your veggies before dessert-so this will be an easy one to remember. When you start shopping, first go to the produce section. The bulk of your shopping should take place here. Fresh vegetables, lettuce for salads, and fruits are the best things to eat when you want to look and feel great.

Don't skimp on produce-aim to fill most of your cart here.

I: Is it Wheat?
When it comes to bread you only need to ask yourself one question. Is it wheat? White bread products have been processed and filled with simple carbohydrates – these will easily stick to your body as fat. Wheat breads, on the other hand, contain more fiber and are much healthier. Make it a policy to never purchase white bread, wheat bread is the right choice even for the little members of your family.

Always choose hearty wheat bread products-the more whole grain, the better.

T: Trim the Fat
In the meat section you are faced with a major decision. Do you go with your taste buds or do you go with your health conscious side? I urge you to stick with the latter. These days lean meats are more available than ever, and the benefits to going lean are numerous. When you choose lean meats you avoid extra saturated fat (your heart will thank you for this) and you also avoid the extra calories that come packed into each fat gram.

Want to be lean? Then eat lean meats.

N: Never enter the Junk Food Aisle
I have a simple policy that has saved me from thousands of unnecessary calories. I don't walk down the junk food aisle. You and I both know that it is nearly impossible to walk past rows of chips, candies and cookies without putting something into the cart. The bright packages stamped with mouthwatering images will give your will power a run for its money. My two cents? Avoid that row altogether and save yourself from the whole ordeal.

Nothing good ever came from walking down the junk food aisle-just say no.

E: Edge around the store
Here's a really easy trick for healthy shopping. Edge around the store, as in shop the perimeter and avoid the inner aisles. Think about it-the healthiest products are kept around the perimeter of the store: produce, meat, dairy. The inner aisles are where you run into trouble: processed food, baked goods, and sweets. Don't get me wrong, there are healthy products kept in the inner aisles too, but a majority of the items are waist-expanders.

Shop in a circle-stick to the perimeter of the store, do less shopping in the aisles.

S: Skinny Cow
The dairy section is filled with many healthy items; it is also filled with extremely high fat items. Your job is to pick out all those calcium-rich foods that you love in the low fat and non fat versions. I realize that many people have a prejudice against low milk or yogurt, simply because they've always eaten the full fat version. Making the switch to low fat is such a simple way to cut unnecessary fat and calories from your diet, while still getting all the benefits of dairy.

Fat free dairy products are the way to go-you'll only lose unwanted pounds.

S: Stick with Water
Warning: mini lecture to follow. I'll make it short and sweet. Drink more water-period. Sodas, sugary juices and calorie-laden alcoholic beverages are responsible for a large number of unnecessary calories in your diet. Don't fill your cart with these sneaky calories. Keep them out of your kitchen and out of your life.

Looking for a tasty beverage? Look no farther than crystal clear water.

There you have it-your FITNESS shopping plan that will take your cart from fat to fit. I suggest that you write down the FITNESS steps on a note card and take it to the store with you.

Are you ready to take your body from fat to fit? I've got what it takes to get you there! No guess work, no fad diets, and no super long workouts.

Before and After Weight Loss Pictures of Top Fitness Model Revealed!

Nate-@-Gilman-2.jpgHappy May Day Athletes and Warriors! Today's transformation is a bit of a long one but well worth the read. So many years and I still marvel when a human being tires of being average and activates their faith to transform and change their lives for the better. Which simply means, if they can do it, why not you too?

Before and After Weight Loss Pictures of Top Fitness Model Revealed!

Hitch Fit Co-Founder & Co-Owner Diana Chaloux – LaCerte shares her story and never before seen before and after photos!

Before and After Weight Loss Pictures of Top Fitness Model RevealedBefore and After pictures of top fitness model Diana Chaloux – LaCerte!

All too often, people see me now, and think that I’ve never had my own personal weight battles. They may think that it’s always been easy or natural for me to make healthy choices. Or that I have been lean my entire life. What they don’t realize is that transformation is so personal to me, and I’m so passionate about it, because I have BEEN there myself. Everything we preach at Hitch Fit, I have had to put into practice in my personal life!

I recently had the chance to share my story and some never before seen “Before” pictures on KCTV5’s Better Kansas City show. These were images that have been hidden in boxes, in a closet for over a decade. I’ve shared my personal transformation story before, but never shared some of the pictures that just felt a little too embarrassing for me. I realized it was time to let it all out, to be truthful about the challenges that I personally faced, and hopefully inspire someone else to just take those first steps to positive change just like I did!

At my heaviest weight I was at least 175 pounds. I say at least because I hopped on a scale one day in 2004 and it went up over 175. I didn’t step on a scale again for several months, and not until that weight had already come down a bit. I didn’t take a lot of pictures during that time. I avoided cameras, or hid behind people. I gained this amount of weight because of some very unhealthy emotional eating habits. I was binge eating in the night. I was a compulsive over-eater. Once I started eating, I wouldn’t stop. I would starve myself all day, mostly as punishment for the binge I had undertaken the night before, then when I couldn’t stand my hunger any longer, I would eat until I couldn’t eat anymore. This hidden behavior always happened at night, when no one was watching. I never admitted it to anyone. I claimed to not have any idea why I was gaining weight. Guess what. I KNEW, and I was scared. I felt out of control. Each morning I woke up and vowed that it wouldn’t happen again. But as the night grew closer, the old habits continued to creep in and take over.Weight Loss Story

I needed motivation. I needed a goal strong enough to catapult me past these negative behaviors, and enable me to start realizing my true potential. For me, that goal was competition. Something I had dreamed of for years. But my excuses and procrastination were getting me nowhere closer to achieving my aspirations. I finally had enough. I was tired of not feeling well. Tired of my low self-esteem. Tired of not liking what I saw in the mirror. Tired of not fitting into my clothes. Tired of feeling disappointed with myself. Tired of talking and talking and not doing. In July 2005 I finally started to take action, and most importantly to take power and responsibility for my choices. Specifically my eating choices. I realized I DO have control. I changed my mindset towards food and started using it to help me rather than hurt me.

When I finally made the commitment and was ready for change, an interesting thing happened. I LOVED this new life. I didn’t miss the old one. Didn’t miss the binge eating. Didn’t miss the horrible feelings in the morning. Didn’t miss compromising myself because of my low self-esteem. I didn’t miss a thing. What I discovered was something that I loved. A body that I felt strong and confident in. Confidence that made me believe in myself and my ability to succeed. I found FREEDOM in the discipline that I learned through transformation. I also discovered that everything I had dreamed of, my goals and dreams, were all just waiting for me on the other side of this new disciplined lifestyle.

What happened next?

Well, thanks to God’s grace and what I believe His purpose is for my life, I lost over 40 pounds, won my first show, went on to compete for 7 years, won 7 shows including two World Champion titles, had the chance to be in my favorite fitness magazines, met the man of my dreams through the fitness industry, moved to a city that I love, started a business that I love and wake up passionate and excited about each and every day! All of this happened for me because I decided to make a change. I decided to take action. I don’t know where my life would be if I hadn’t made that choice, but I’m so grateful I did, because I sure do love this one!

So here’s the segment from Better Kansas City – below that I will share some additional thoughts I didn’t have time for on the show!

YES it’s TRUE that Arnold Schwarzenneger picked me out of the crowd and said “Nice Abs” .

I was taking his picture as he walked by, so actually got the shot of him looking and pointing at me!

Arnold says Nice ABsArnold says “Nice Abs”

Oxygen Magazine Fitness Model Diana Chaloux - LaCerte

Then Oxygen Magazine did a little blurb about Arnold’s compliment!

Here are some of the strategies that worked for me as I went through transformation and then transitioned to maintenance.

If you would like my help as you go through your own transformation journey, please check out the Online Personal Training options that we have available right here at Hitch Fit. If you’re in Kansas City area, contact me to find out more about our one on one transformation training gyms.

  1. I realized the importance of nutrition. I took power and responsibility for my choices. I recognized that the only one making my food choices was ME. I could either make the ones that kept me back from achieving my goals OR I could make the ones that brought me closer to my goals.
  2. I stopped telling myself that I couldn’t control my patterns. I changed my mindset. This can be done INTENTIONALLY. If you catch yourself saying something negative or untrue (I can’t control myself or I had no choice), stop yourself immediately and replace that with the truth. You DO have a choice, you CAN make the right choice, you DO have control.
  3. I realized that I COULD eat anything and everything I wanted. It wasn’t a matter of not being able to eat something. I didn’t say “I can’t eat that”, because that wasn’t the truth. The truth was that I could eat anything, but certain choices would push me further away from my goal, while others would get me closer to it. So it became a matter of “not wanting” things that prevented me from success. When I realized I just didn’t want those things. It relieved a lot of stress and anxiety over food. When you tell yourself you can’t have something, you want it all the more, that simple switch in thinking opened the door for great freedom from food obsession.
  4. I walked out my choices and recognized the REAL sacrifice. It wasn’t not getting to eat something in the moment. The REAL sacrifice was giving up my goal for a few seconds of chewing and swallowing. I mentally linked up the negative consequences of my poor eating habits to the choices themselves. When I looked at a former temptation and suddenly it represented something negative to me, it became easy to not want it.
  5. I stayed diligent. I knew that this process was not going to be easy. I knew it would not happen overnight. I knew I would need diligence and consistency to get there.
  6. I focused on positive and small successes. Every week wasn’t an amazing loss or change. There were weeks when I worked so hard and saw nothing happen. But I always focused on the positives, even if it was a little thing. A gain in strength. Able to see a muscle more visibly. My clothes fitting better. Whatever little success was there, that’s what I focused on.
  7. I read positive affirmations every single day. These were statements written in present tense “I am” statements. I read them every single morning. I planted those thoughts into my mind so that they would become my reality.
  8. When I was finished with my first transformation, I knew that the key to maintaining my losses was all about my eating choices. I stuck with the habits that I had learned, and gradually transitioned into a maintenance lifestyle.
  9. I embraced a new lifestyle. This was not a quick fix or a diet. I looked at the long term and the new habits I developed I was determined that this was the new me. There was no going back!
  10. I reached out for help along this journey anytime I needed it. I found support in family and friends and coaches along the way. It’s important to have cheerleaders who are encouraging to you!
Here is my original transformation feature that I shared on the Hitch Fit site back in 2015!

Fitness Model Competition

cta-his2

I have been a personal trainer since 2006 and for whatever reason was against the guy who posted shirtless pictures online. I thought those guys were just arrogant jerks just trying to show off for the ladies. Then just over a year ago I met another trainer that was competing in a WBFF fitness competition and he didn’t fit the stereotype. I became interested in the WBFF and all of the positives that being in a fitness competition could provide. Things like having and achieving a goal, being a role model and person of influence, having and learning from a new experience, and having fun along the way!

Fitness Model ripped

When I was kicking around the idea of competing I saw that there was a posing clinic at Hitch Fit Gym in Kansas City and decided to go just in case I decided to ever compete. Not long after the posing camp I decided to compete and if I was going to compete I was going to do it the right way. So, even though I am a personal trainer, decided to get a 12 week workout plan from Micah LaCerte online at HitchFit.com. I knew he had competed himself and had developed many plans for people doing just what I was planning to do so I invested in the Build Muscle for Hardgainers program. I really loved the program! It was full of programming that 1) I would have never thought of myself and 2) would have never programmed for myself. I plan on competing at the WBFF world’s competition in Toronto.

You can follow my journey on Instagram @TheRealCoachStrick
