Middleton police and Dane County Sheriff’s deputies are seen in a gun fight with the Middleton workplace shooter in newly released body cam video.
The video is part of an extensive report released today by the Wisconsin Department of Criminal investigation.
Also Monday, Dane County D.A. Ismael Ozanne said the officers and deputies were justified in using deadly force in the Sept. 19, 2018 workplace shooting at WTS Paradigm in Middleton.
Two Middleton police officers and two Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded, and engaged Anthony Tong, an employee at WTS Paradigm, who had opened fire on his coworkers.
The four officers engaged Tong, Ozanne said, and there is evidence that Tong returned fire.
Tong was hit by one bullet, which proved to be fatal. Investigators don’t know which officer hit Tong.
The law enforcement officers were identified earlier as Deputy David Lambrecht, Deputy Matthew Earll, Officer Richard O’Connor and Officer Tyler Loether.
Ozanne said Tong was legally unable to purchase a firearm after being prohibited years earlier by a South Dakota judge for mental health reasons.
However the weapon Tong used was made with spare parts from a kit, which are unregulated, according to Ozanne.
He urged lawmakers to close loopholes that allow people like Tong to purchase parts.
