WASHINGTON, DC – Head Coach Dickie Mahaffey announced the University of the District of Columbia women's tennis 2018 schedule Aug. 17.
"We're excited about this year's schedule," Mahaffey said. "As always, the conference is going to be very competitive, and I think the league and our non-conference opponents will provide us a good challenge to step up and meet."
The Firebirds, coming off of a 4-8 overall record last season and a 4-3 mark in East Coast Conference play, will play a total of 11 dual matches and compete in the ITA East Regional Championships this fall. Should they qualify for the ECC Championship Tournament, the semifinal and final rounds would be played at Flushing, NY on Oct. 26-27.
The Firebirds will take on all seven other ECC schools, including 2018 NCAA Tournament participants, Queens College and New York Institute of Technology, as well as four non-conference opponents: USciences, Le Moyne College, Millersville University and Wilmington University,
UDC will open its season on Friday, Sept. 7 on the road at ECC foe Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY. Following that match, the Firebirds will square off the very next day against last year's ECC runner-up and NCAA Tournament qualifier, Queens College.
Mahaffey, entering his 10th season as head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams at UDC, will try to steer this women's tennis team back to the ECC post season for what would be its 7th appearance in eight years after a one-year absence last season.
