Augusta Jaguars Hand Bowie State Bulldogs 70-59 Non-Conference Setback

BOWIE, Md. - Augusta University came into Bowie State University on Sunday afternoon and handed the Bulldogs a 70-59 non-conference setback. The loss drops the Bowie State record to 3-4 overall while the Jaguars improve to 6-1 on the year.

“I was very disappointed with our energy, they out rebounded us and their best player did what we knew he was capable of”, said a dejected Bowie State Head Coach Darrell Brooks. “We have to find a way to get that energy and fire back heading into our next game!”

Junior Ahmaad Wilson (Baltimore, Md.) paced Bowie State with 17 points while seniors Michael Briscoe (Waldorf, Md.) and Enuoma Ebinum (Greenbelt, Md.) added 13 points apiece in the setback. Ebinum grabbed a team-high six rebounds and blocked three shots and junior Jemuel Brown (Laurel, Md.) came off the Bulldogs bench to haul down a personal season-high six rebounds.

Juniors Omari George (Baltimore, Md.) and Dayshawn Wells (Baltimore, Md.) scored seven and five points respectively while Brown and redshirt sophomore Christopher Manning (Randallstown, Md.) rounded out Bowie State’s scorers with two points apiece.

The Jaguars top player, Keshun Sherrill (Cleveland, N.C.) torched the Bulldogs with 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. Kyle Doyle (Augusta, Ga.) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go along with six points, two assists and a pair of steals.

Augusta out-rebounded the Bulldogs 41-32 and the Augusta benched outscored Bowie State’s bench 22-9.  The Jaguars ended the afternoon shooting 44.6 percent from the field (25-of-56), which included 42.9 percent (6-of-14) behind the 3-point line and 77.8 percent at the free throw line (14-of-18).

On the other side of the stat sheet, Bowie State shot 38.5 percent from the field, making 20-of-52), tied their season-low (20.0 percent) in 3-point shooting (3-of-15) and a season-low 55.2 percent at the charity stripe (16-of-29). Bowie State has beaten Augusta only once over the six game series, winning last season on the Jaguars Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs make their longest road trip of the season, travelling to Erie, Pa. to face Gannon University on Wednesday (December 7th) at 7:30 p.m.
