May-Treanor's journey
started at Long Beach State, where as a two-time National Player of the
Year, she led the 49ers to the first perfect record in NCAA history on
the way to a National Championship in 1998, Gimmillaro's third title.
Many other players have starred in beach volleyball after working under
Gimmillaro's tutelage as well. Jenn Snyder and Brittany Hochevar are
both among the nation's top money winners in professional beach
volleyball. Alicia (Mills) Polzin was a member of Gimmillaro's first
NCAA championship team in 1989, and has competed in beach volleyball for
over 20 years. Gimmillaro has been consistently one of the best coaches
in the indoor game as well. He ranks 14th in Division I history with
789 career wins, and ranks in the Top 10 among active coaches in both
total wins and winning percentage at the Division I level. Gimmillaro
graduated from Long Beach State in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree

Fraser is a familiar name even to many people who aren't CrossFit fans.
He's an athlete who can be trusted on the topic of recovery, regardless
of your path in fitness!
If you haven't noticed, there are no "secrets" to
training, per se. There's knowledge on training, nutrition, and
recovery—and continuing to build upon that knowledge—but most often,
little things keep us from achieving our desired results in the gym.
Sometimes we don't even notice these small mistakes in areas such as
rest, movement, and programming. Believe it or not, Mat Fraser, four-time "Fittest Man on Earth" and
XTEND-sponsored athlete, has already made some of the same mistakes
you're probably making now. Whether you're pursuing CrossFit or some
other path to fitness, Fraser is here to steer you in the right
direction toward staying healthy, performing optimally, and lengthening
your lifespan in fitness. It's up to you to take control of the variables that could be holding
you back. Here are Fraser's five training mistakes to avoid:
Mistake 1: Not Getting Enough Sleep
Fraser says the biggest thing he would go back and change or tell himself in terms of recovery is to GO TO BED. "During high school and the early years of college, I thought
everyone woke up tired," says Fraser. "I thought being groggy for the
first waking hour or two and then pounding down enough caffeine to fully
open your eyes was normal. But now I realize how foolish that approach
is and how important solid sleep is." Fraser also points out that just one good night of sleep on occasion
won't do much for you. Like all things in fitness, you need to be
consistent. "All the changes I've made in my career added up over time," he says.
"They compound over the entire year. So, after getting a good night's
sleep, your training the next day might be 1 percent better. One percent
over one day isn't going to do anything. But if you continue improving
by 1 percent every single day for an entire year, that's when you start
to see the results take place in your performance."
Mistake 2: Being Impatient with Progress
"The biggest mistake I see with people who are new to CrossFit is
trying to advance too quickly," says Fraser. "Just because you can do a
muscle-up doesn't mean you should. Get the fundamentals down pat before

Deputies from Constable Ted Heap’s Office recently made a dramatic
rescue, pulling a driver from a burning vehicle just before flames
engulfed the car in which he was trapped.
The driver, a 20-year-old man from Northwest Houston, fell asleep at the
wheel a little before 6 a.m. on Sunday, December 8, and crashed into a
tree in the 15200 block of Clay Road. A Precinct 5 sergeant on his way
home from his shift found the vehicle on fire while a wrecker driver
tried in vain to get into the car and help the trapped driver. The
sergeant and other deputies called to the scene used multiple fire
extinguishers to temporarily slow down the spreading flames while they
worked to free the driver, whose right foot was caught underneath the
damaged dashboard.
Deputies struggled to free the injured driver as the flames spread into
the car’s interior. At last, after cutting the driver’s pants, deputies
were able to pull him to safety just before the passenger compartment
became fully engulfed. “These deputies showed incredible courage as they
worked together to save this man’s life,” said Constable Ted Heap. “You
never know, until you find yourself in a situation like this, how
you’ll react. The way they responded under extremely stressful and
dangerous conditions makes me proud to wear the same Precinct 5 badge.”
The driver suffered multiple broken bones in the crash and was taken to a
nearby hospital. He is still recovering from surgery but is expected to
make a full recovery. The deputies escaped relatively unharmed with
only singed hair and superficial burns.
“Not according to the
covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by
the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued
not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord” (Hebrews

The old covenant of the law
put tremendous pressure on the people to obey all the rules and perform
perfectly before God could bless them. The new covenant was designed so
that our faithfulness, or lack of it, is no longer an issue.

believers don't realize that and they've gotten themselves in a mess.
When they get sick, instead of just believing for healing, they start
wondering if it's God's will for them to die. Maybe He's ready to call me home, they think. Don't
ever entertain thoughts like that. If God has His way, He won't call
you home until you're good and ready to come. The Apostle Paul
understood that. In 2 Timothy 4:6-7, he said, "For I am now ready to be
offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good
fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Paul didn't
die until he and Jesus were ready for him to go. Regardless of
your age, if the devil is telling you God isn't going to heal you
because it's time for you to go home, he is lying to you. God promises
in Psalm 91:16 that if you are living under the shadow of the Most High,
He will satisfy you with long life. (That means that you are abiding in
Him as Jesus taught in John 15.) If you're not satisfied that you
have finished your course yet on this earth, it's not time for you to
die. So ignore the devil and keep right on living. Resist sickness and
disease in the Name of Jesus. Stand on God's promise! Then, when
you're ready to go on to heaven, go! But go satisfied, healed and ready!
Go in victory shouting the words of that old joy-filled song—"Heaven is
near and I can't stay here. Goodbye world, goodbye."
