3 Softball Drills To Do At Home

All while simply using regular household items to work on their game. It’ll not just get them more focused on the sport, but also at the same time, I’m sure you will see some rapid improvement with their on-field performance. Throughout this article, I’ll walk you through some at-home drills you can teach your players.
Drill #1: Posterboard Strike Zone
This drill you can do with a number of different things, but I’ll suggest using a posterboard. Grab some tape and create a strike zone on the board. Then, tape it about a foot off the ground. Once you have your strike zone built, head upstairs and grab a few pairs of socks rolled up (in other words, your softballs). The last item you’ll need is a camera. Anything will do here, you can even tell them to grab one of their parent’s phones. Set it behind where you’ll be pitching from and set it to record video.
Finally, now that you’re ready to practice, work on the motion of going through the windup and throwing the socks (i.e. softball) into the posterboard. With the video footage, you’ll be able to dissect the motion and overall throwing process. Some valuable insight that most youth players never evaluate.
Drill #2: Arm Strength and Hands Drills
A major part of being an effective softball player is having soft hands and a strong arm. An easy drill for this only requires a net or a wall. For the hands aspect of this category, all you have to do is throw the ball off the wall. This will allow you to practice various ground balls, short hops, and so on. Then, for arm strength, just use the wall as a way to practice throwing. Work on arm motion particularly here.
Don’t have a solid wall to use? No worries, just use a tennis ball and the garage. Trust me, it works just as well.

So many coaches complain about not having a weight room, not having a strength coach, not having equipment etc. My feeling is instead of complaining, find a solution.... keep reading

Drill #3: Take Some Cuts
This final drill might just be the simplest one for your players to practice. For this, they’ll just need a mirror and a bat. The player will get in front of the mirror and simply take full cuts while seeing in-person how their stance looks, as well as the swing. While it might sound like a nominal drill, it’s actually key to developing a consistent swing.
As for how often it would be recommended to do this drill, I’d suggest having them take 15-20 swings at a time on 3 different instances each day.
Practice, Practice, Practice!
In the end, one of your primary jobs as a youth softball coach is to develop the work ethic necessary to grow as a player and a person. Even though you won’t be working first-hand on these drills with your players, you will be the one responsible for growing their love for the game!

THE MOST CARING PLACE ON EARTH

Have you ever had an incredible friend who seemed to make you feel better, no matter what you talked to them about? Maybe that person wasn’t a psychologist or counselor by profession, but was simply there for you and willing to listen. They seemed to say the right things at the right times, and you knew you could count on them to make you a priority whenever you had a problem you needed help with.

For most people, the answer to this question is “Uh….NOPE!”

Friendships are usually a give and take in terms of compassion and empathy. It is extremely rare for anyone to have a friend who is available 100% of the time. Often our friends are busy, or have opinions they present as fact, or are too blunt or can only offer greeting card sentiments. A lot of people don’t have anyone with whom they can talk openly with at all!
According to John C. Cacioppo, who wrote a book on the subject, 1 in 5 Americans suffer from “chronic loneliness,” a condition which he says should be a diagnosed syndrome. It has long been understood by health professionals that patients with life threatening diseases have a 26% higher chance of dying from their illness, says Time Magazine, if they do not have a personal support system. The Guardian has actually dubbed the current decade as The Age Of Loneliness, and Huffington Post reminds us that social media is making things worse.

Loneliness is one of the major reasons why people are unhealthy.

At BodyRock, we discovered something fascinating. There is a link between feeling isolated, and quitting a workout program and making poor choices with your diet. Or, rather, we notice that there is a correlation between people who lose weight and get in great shape, and people who share their Fitness Journey with other people.
To further help with this issue, we created an online support group for everyone who has signed up for our On Demand platform of BodyRock workouts, called SweatFlix. The Group is filled with women and men from all over the world, with people posting day and night about an issue they are facing. Their issues might be about confidence, or motivation as our examples here will show:

LegsStefanie

In addition to this kind of post, some people post that they are overwhelmed, and need some high fives so they can remember that people are out there who care and may be struggling with the same issues they are facing. Psychology Today has said that sharing an issue can help you diffuse the emotions about the problem, which is often the only way to feel on top of a stressful situation.

BellyOverPants

Other people in the Group have posted that they just need some motivation to do a workout. Imagine having access to thousands of people reminding you that, “YOU GOT THIS!!”

Life is a marathon, not a mountain.

A typical metaphor that we use in the West to describe what it feels like to be alive is the mountain metaphor. “Put one foot in front of the other,” people say, and slowly you can get through a day, accumulate knowledge and skills, and earn more money over time. However at BodyRock, we have discovered that for people who are fit and healthy, the marathon metaphor works a lot better. Life is fast-paced, challenging, and requires a great deal of energy and endurance. Getting to the finish line is emotional, and the last thing people want is to go through it alone!

Marathons need spectators!

Our Support Group is a lot like the thousands of spectators at a marathon. If you’ve ever been to a marathon, you’ll have noticed that spectators cheer for everyone as the runners go by, not just the person they came to support. Spectators and runners alike feels like they’re involved in something collective and very human, and a wonderful feeling is built—this is what it means to be a part of a healthy and compassionate community. Imagine trying to get through all 42 Kilometers of a Marathon in complete silence!

WasntInTheMood

Even if you are shy and not sure whether or not you need a Group to get you motivated, give it a shot. Like everything in life, you don’t know what you are missing until you give it a try. You don’t need to post regularly, and you can get inspired simply by the sheer number of happy, post-workout faces and incredible pictures of progress.
Life is hard enough, with all the stresses and pressures of work, family, relationships, and bills! You need your workout time to be how you recharge. In order to even get to that stage, however, you need to find your motivation. We hear this every single day from thousands of people: the only thing that worked for them was to see this global Home Workout Movement in action!

Cancer Myths
By: Prashant Shukla
There is not much awareness about cancer and that is why there are many myths that surround this medical condition. One thing which every one should know about the cancer is the early warning sign, so that the same can be treated and cured. The common myths about cancer are –

1. Use of cell phones can cause cancer. Again this is a very common belief that cell phones can cause cancer. There is no credible study available that consistently proves that using a cell phone has the ability to cause cancer.

2. Hair dye can cause brain cancer. Hair dye never causes cancer however this is a very common myth believed world over. The common belief was that hair dye can cause brain tumor, but there is no evidence of it causing brain tumors. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association confirms that hair dye does not increase the risk of developing cancer.

3. Cancer can cause hair loss or hair loss indicates cancer. Cancer does not cause hair loss. However, hair loss can be a side effect of cancer treatments, like chemotherapy and radiation therapy. That too not with everyone, there are people who have undergone chemotherapy or radiation and did not lose their hair.

4. One can inherit cancer from parents. This is not true with all types of cancer. This means that one will not inherit cancer from parents for sure. However there are few types of cancer which can be passed down genetically, like breast cancer, ovarian cancer and colorectal cancer. If a parent has any of these cancers, the cancer gene may be passed to their child. But this does not mean that the child will suffer from cancer surely. It can only increase the likelihood of developing cancer.

5. Breast cancer is found in women only. This is the biggest cancer myth and believed by most. Men too can have breast cancer. As per an estimate 1500 men will be diagnosed and about 500 will die from the disease this year. However male breast cancer is very uncommon, yet it happens.

6. Cancer can be contagious. In fact there is No type of cancer is contagious. However, there are two viruses which are contagious, Hepatitis C and HPV, they can cause cancer. Hep C causes liver cancer whereas HPV is a known risk factor for cervical cancer. Both of these viruses can be transmitted through unprotected sexual intercourse. However, Hep C is more often transmitted through blood to blood contact such as sharing needles and transfusions.

7. Pharmaceutical companies have the cure for cancer but are hiding it. If this was true, thousands of loved ones of pharmaceutical businessmen have not died due to this deadly disease. pharmaceutical researchers are actually fighting very hard to find some solution instead. This is the result of their hard word alone that today we can cure many types of cancer successfully.

8. Cancer means death. Yes, this could be but not always that cancer means death. New breakthroughs have made it possible to treat the cancer in early detection of of the disease. An estimate is that more than 35% of cancer patients reach or exceed the five year survivor life!

9. Use of antiperspirants and deodorant can cause cancer. According to the National Cancer Society, there is no conclusive evidence from recent studies that wearing them can cause cancer. This cancer myth is by far one of the most popular among women for that it can cause breast cancer.

10. Positive thinking cures cancer. Positive thinking does not cure cancer but surely plays very significant role during cancer treatment. Optimistic attitude helps increasing the quality of life during treatment. Although there is no scientific evidence that positive attitude cures cancer.

All the above mentioned are wrong notions. As one sees symptoms that are warning signs of cancer, one should rush to a doctor.

Get on the Right Road

Deuteronomy 30:19

God’s going to get you for that! Most of us have said that kind of thing jokingly for years. We’ve somehow believed that God slaps us down with pain and punishment every time we sin. But that’s just not true. There are deadly wages for sin, but God is not the one who’s doling them out.
You see, the Bible tells us there’s been a curse in effect for thousands of years. And the devil is the cause of it, not the Lord God. God gave warning of it in Deuteronomy 30:19. After describing in detail the blessings that fall upon those who followed God and the terrible suffering that would befall those who separated themselves from Him, He said, “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
Think of it this way. Curseville is out there. God warned us about it and urged us not to travel the road that leads there. But He has promised to give us freedom, and He’ll allow us to choose our own way. If we get on the road to Curseville and don’t get off of it, we’re going to wind up there. Is that because God sent us there? No! He urged us not to go.
The vital thing to realize is this: At any point of the journey—whether you’re on the road to Curseville or living right in the middle of it—God will save you from it. He’ll take you out of there and deliver you. He’ll deliver you from diseases, addictions, or anything else that’s been holding you captive.
Today if you find yourself on the wrong road and see destruction ahead, just repent and get on the right road. Just commit your way to Jesus and He’ll deliver you from whatever may be holding you captive. You can begin by praying, “Lord Jesus, I’ve chosen the wrong road and right now I ask You to forgive me. Today I choose life by choosing Your way. Please deliver me from this bondage and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Thank You, Lord!”
Remember this: No matter what you’ve done, God doesn’t want to get you for it, He wants to forgive you of it. He doesn’t want to slap you down, He wants to save you and lift you up. Trust Him and let Him put you on the road of life today!

Dick's Sporting Goods Presents: Getting a Mental and Physical Edge with Aaron Judge

Build both sides of your game with these tips for the diamond with baseball pro Aaron Judge.

To compete at the top level, baseball players need to be as strong mentally as they are physically. A positive, constructive mindset on the field can complement any physical skill set. By training both sides of your game, you can help set yourself apart this season.
Baseball pro and all-star right fielder Aaron Judge shares his tips on how to keep your mental and physical game strong. In addition to personal training, Judge also explains how to deal with the game’s inevitable bad breaks.

HANDLING ADVERSITY

Baseball is a game of failure, so understanding how to deal with the game’s hardship is a necessity. According to Judge, the best way to handle adversity is to accept that it’s going to happen. There will be days when the ball doesn’t roll your way, but it’s not the end of your career.
“Learning from it, that’s the biggest thing. Learn, ‘Why did I strike out?’ or, ‘Why did I ground out there? What did I do?’ You know, learn from it and then move on,” Judge says. “That’s the biggest thing that helped in my career.”
Another great tip on handling adversity in baseball is having a short memory. Break down your miscues and note what occurred, but don’t carry your past mishaps into your next inning in the field or appearance at the plate. “I just [have to] forget about it and be like, ‘Hey, it’s a new day. We all start at zero. Let’s roll it out there,’” Judge notes.
While having a strong mentality is important on the field, Judge also suggests a few exercises and drills to build the physical side of your player profile.

LONG TOSS AND BAND WORK

To develop pro-level arm strength and throwing mechanics, Judge says long toss and resistance band work can make a big difference. These exercises can help build endurance while also improving strength for when it counts.
In addition to throwing a baseball, Judge also recommends tossing a football around during long toss sessions. “All offseason right now, all I’m doing is playing catch with a football,” Judge notes.
In addition, throwing a football can help with arm strength while also adding some variety to your diamond training. “I like mixing it up … You know, sometimes, you get tired of a baseball,” Judge jokes.
You can also build arm strength through resistance band training before practice. Performing a few exercises before taking the field can help warm up your rotator cuff for a full day’s work. “Even if it’s two minutes, three minutes, five minutes, whatever time you got,” Judge says, “If you bust out just a couple of those to get it loose, that’s going to pay off.”
Working to strengthen your rotator cuff daily through band work can help keep you performing at opening day levels well into your season.
When it comes to taking your play to the next level, remember to keep your mental and physical skills in shape. Follow these quick and helpful Pro Tips to put you above your rivals on both sides of the game.

BodyrockTV Featuring: Resistance Lunge and WHY THE WELL DRESSED MAN ALWAYS GETS THE GIRL

WHY THE WELL DRESSED MAN ALWAYS GETS THE GIRL

If he looks good, he feels good
Ever throw on a blazer, a great pair of heels or a vibrant lip colour and feel like you can conquer the world? It’s the same for guys. Whether it’s an accessory like a gold watch or a whole suit, looking the part makes him feel the part.
Style is linked to success
Nothing attracts our eye quite like a man who looks in charge, in control and successful. Especially, if he doesn’t just leave his business attire at the office. We notice freshly dressed dudes who know how to keep it classy at the bar, at a cafe or in any aspect of life. You know that guy who rocked a slightly unbuttoned collared shirt you passed by on the street? What are the chances you would rather grab a coffee with him then the guy slumming it in baggy shorts and his favourite graphic tee?
Dressing right means acting right
He may dress like a gentlemen, but what really has us swooning is when he acts like one too! You want your clean cut date to grab the door, grab the bill and grab your heart with some interesting conversation.
What hot fashion look do you love on a man? Is it a sleek business suit? A crisp polo? A pulled back man bun? Let us know!
