Make It a Habit

Adapted from the resource Starting Your Day Right Devotional - by Joyce MeyerThe Word says that Jesus had a habit of going up the mountain to spend time with God. Luke 22:39 says, And He came out and went, as was His habit, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed Him (AMPC).
Jesus formed a habit of communicating with God every morning.
It has been said that if you do something consistently for 30 days, it will become a habit. You can either make or break a habit by consistently doing the same thing. Follow Jesus, and form a habit of starting your day with prayer.
Prayer Starter: Father, I want to make a habit of spending time with You. You are my Source of help and strength, and I can’t have any real success in life without You. Help me to today to begin spending regular time with You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

God Has Something to Say

John 10:3, The Amplified Bible

Don't ever be so afraid of making a mistake you miss out on the joy of acting on the voice of the Lord. Instead, trust the leadership of the Holy Spirit and let Him show you how. He'll begin by speaking to you about the little things in your life, and as you grow accustomed to hearing and obeying, He'll speak to you about weightier things.
That's how it happened with Gloria and me. When we first accepted Jesus as Lord, we didn't have any idea how to hear God. Our spirits weren't yet trained to distinguish His leading. But since the Bible promised we could do it, we began to approach our prayer time and Bible study time expecting to hear God's direction and He began to give it.
I'll never forget the first time it happened to Gloria. She'd been reading the Bible and she just stopped for a few minutes to see if God would say something to her. Right down on the inside of her, she heard the Lord say, The light is on in your car.
It didn't occur to her that God would speak to her about something so trivial, so she just brushed that thought aside and went on listening. Pretty soon, He said the same thing again. He kept on repeating it until finally, she got up and walked out to the car. Sure enough, the light was on.
Why would God bother with something as insignificant as a car light? Because He cares! He knew Gloria was home alone that night with two small children, and if that battery had run down, she'd have been stuck there. God was watching out for her, and He told her just exactly what she needed to know right then.
Yet, at the same time, He knew she was a beginner where listening to His voice was concerned, so He gave her an instruction she could follow without much risk. I mean, what if she had gone out there and the light hadn't been on? What if she'd missed it? She would have felt foolish but that wouldn't have hurt anything.
If you'll trust Him, the Holy Spirit will do the same thing for you that He did for Gloria and me. He'll bring you along one step at a time in a way that will help you, not hurt you.
The biggest mistake you can make is to be afraid to follow that inward witness which is the No. 1 way God leads all His children (Romans 8:14). So don't be afraid. Take time to listen today. Expect to hear in your spirit. God has something to say to you.

CoachTube Basketball Presents Bowie State U Hoops Men's and Women's Results Vs Johnson C. Smith

(MEN'S Bb STORY) Late Belle Free Throws Lift Bowie State Past Johnson C. Smith 67-65
BOWIE, Md. - Redshirt junior David Belle sank a pair of free throws with .4 seconds remaining in the game to lift Bowie State men's basketball to a key 67-65 CIAA home win against the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith on Saturday afternoon. The win snaps a two-game slide and sets the Bulldogs season mark at 6-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

As a unit, Bowie State finished the contest shooting 38 percent from the field (17-of-45) and 73 percent at the free throw line (30-of-41). The Bulldogs dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Johnson C. Smith by a decisive 48-29 margin. The 48 rebounds were one shy of the teams’ season-high. Bowe State set a new season-high for blocked shots, swatting away 10. However, the Bulldogs also turned the ball over a season-high 26 times which translated into 22 Johnson C. Smith points.

Sophomore Keith Duffin, Jr. and junior Cameron Hayes paced the Bulldogs with 16 and 13 points respectively on a combined 7-of-16 shooting from the field. Bowie State junior Saiquan Jamison led all rebounders with a 12 to go along with six points and a pair of blocks.

“We did a really good job defensively today”, said Bowie State Head Coach Darrell Brooks. “I thought we went to sleep at the wheel offensively after being up by 17 with 12 minutes left, combined with costly turnovers and bad shots to let them back in the game. We remained resilient and kept defending to earn the win.”

Johnson C. Smith (2-7, 0-3 CIAA) was led by Roddric Ross with 16 points and tied for team-high rebound honors with six while Cayse Minor added 10 points, with eight coming in the first half.

Johnson C. Smith’s Ross scored the first points of the game, but Bowie State used a 9-2 run to gain the Bulldogs’ first lead.

An Ervin Bennett tip-in at the 10:59 mark of the first half briefly shifted the advantage back over to the visitors of JCSU (17-15), but a Duffin layup with 8:02 to go would give Bowie State the lead (25-23) what would be for good. Bowie State closed the half with a 16-7 run to carry a 41-30 cushion into halftime.

The Bulldogs pitched a shutout over the first two minutes of the second half to take its largest of 17 (47-30) and maintained a double-digit lead until the 10:33 mark.

The Golden Bulls didn’t panic, closing the deficit 63-61 following a Ross layup with 2:08 remaining in the game. JCSU’s Justice Goodloe knotted the score of 63-all following a timeout.

Bowie State finished the game at the free throw line with junior Juwan Smith knocking down a pair with 31 seconds to go and Belle’s game winning free throws.

Bowie State will play host to Livingstone College on Monday (January 7) night with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

(WOMEN'S Bb Story) Bulldogs Edge Johnson C. Smith 60-57 in Women's Action

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women’s basketball team outlasted Johnson C. Smith 60-57 at the A.C. Jordan Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Redshirt senior Pere Alexander led the team in scoring with 14 points as the Bulldogs move to 11-1 on the year and 3-0 in the CIAA. Junior Kyaja Williams had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to help Bowie State extend its winning streak to 10 in a row.

Dejane James led all Johnson C. Smith scorers with 17 points for the Golden Bulls, who fall to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA. Johnson C. Smith did win the battle on the glass, outrebounding the opponent 47-38 with DeNajha Porter and Imani Montalvo pulling down 10 each.

The Bulldogs led by small margins in the first period 11-8 at the 5:20 mark before two quick layups and a jumper by JCSU’s James and Blair Thomas gave the visitors a 14-11 lead at the 3:32 mark. Junior Amel Duggins’ corner three pointer tied the game at 14-14 to end the first period.

Despite their record, the Golden Bulls kept the game close throughout the second period and 27-24 with 2:42 remaining in the first half. A James three-pointer with 35 seconds left in the second period gave the visitors 32-29 advantage going into halftime.

James picked up where she left off in the first half with a triple to start the third period, followed by a jumper by Le’zarea Bowens to provide JCSU’s largest lead 37-29 at the 8:04 mark.

The Bulldogs answered with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 37-all with 3:02 left in the third period and ended three quarters of action with a 43-41 lead over the Golden Bulls.

Bowie State used the final quarter to close out Johnson C. Smith after what looked like an upset throughout the game. Alexander’s free throws increased the lead 53-49 with 2:34 in the fourth period. However, Johnson C. Smith was not going away without a fight, scoring four straight points to create the games 11th tie at 53-all.

The Bulldogs outscored the Golden Bulls 7-4 over the final 1:37, all by way of the charity stripe to seal the victory.

Bowie State is back in action on Monday, January 7 as it continues CIAA play at home against Livingstone College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

HItchFit's Keys To Effective Workouts

Discover 5 Keys To Effective Workouts

The Mind and Muscle Connection.
How Intense are your workouts?
Have you ever gone to the gym and your focus was not on the workout? You were on the elliptical thinking about how you hate your job or stressed about bills, just going through the motions. You tell everyone “I work out 4 days a week but I’m just not getting results.” Why is it that you are not getting the results you desire?
One part of the puzzle is what I call Mind and Muscle Connection. Think about it like this. You go to work and have a task that your boss lays out for you. She gives you a time period to get it done and what she expects within the task. You are thinking about how you are going to make this the best possible and excel in every way. You are hoping to get that promotion that you have wanted and needed for some time. This is much like working out. You need to go to the gym with a purpose, with a task. You have a goal set and you have to do everything you can to reach that goal in the shortest amount of time.
When you make the Mind and Muscle Connection, your focus is on the workout and the muscle group you are training. Each rep of that bicep curl or squat is focused on working as hard as you can. When you are scatter brained you will not get to the level of intensity you need to get real results. Get yourself an ipod or some music player then download your favorite tunes and WORKOUT.
People will know you are there for business, not social hour. I always make the joke of if you need to talk to me, text me later because I am here work, not to socialize! Taking long rest periods will not be effective when trying to change your body. You need to hit a certain level of intensity week in week out that will enable your body to burn fat and gain muscle as well as a balanced nutrition plan. Here at Hitch Fit I teach my clients that if you can keep a balance of Fitness, Good Nutrition and Positive Lifestyle will always succeed.
Keep in mind I am not saying go out and lift a 1000 pounds, you need to do what your body is capable of. What I am showing you is the intensity I want you to workout at. Getting IN THE ZONE and pushing your body to get results.
5 Keys For Effective Workouts:
  1. Set realistic goals
  2. Think Happy! Negative thoughts always lead to a bad workout
  3. Believe in yourself! I can do this, I can reach my goals!
  4. Cut all distractions. If something is on your mind then take care of it before you go workout.
  5. Think over and over that working out is a stress reliever and will help increase your overall energy. You will never regret going to the gym in your life. But you will regret NOT going!

Why Did I Get Cancer, The Facts You Need to Know
By: Alan Wighton
Most people are shocked and bewildered when first diagnosed with cancer and naturally turn to the people they trust the most for the reasons why. Doctors may suggest that it could be genetics or something outside their control but they don’t really know. Cancer is only a modern day problem and also only in western civilised countries so the causes of cancer are well known but unfortunately not by our medical system that are more interested in offering you their ineffective toxic treatments.

One hundred years ago cancer was almost unheard of and today in undeveloped or third world countries it is still a rare diseases. If our mainstream medical system was interested in find the reasons why there is so much cancer now why don’t they travel to a country where it doesn’t occur and find out why it is not occurring. The simple fact is that cancer has become a profitable business for both our medical care system and pharmaceutical companies.

To overcome cancer you have to know the reason why it first appeared because before you can be free of it you must deal with the factors that first caused it. All cancers are a self-caused disease and they are caused by an immune system that’s been weakened and didn’t control cancer cells as they appeared within the body and that is because of the way we now live. Supermarkets and the food we are putting in our mouths are one of the main contributing factors.

The food we eat on a daily basis has changed over these last few decades and is the reason why there is so much cancer now so common sense should tell you that it’s time to make some changes. Start by removing that dead over processed food that the supermarket shelves are full of. Other lifestyle changes are exercise everyday as your immune system needs it to function efficiently. Also it’s best to get exercise outdoors which means you will also be getting some valuable vitamin D from the sun and that is well known to be beneficial to a cancer victim.

Other facts doctors won’t tell you are to be wary of the many chemicals that are in circulation today which are finding their way into our bodies. We are overwhelmed with toxic chemicals that we breathe in as in exhaust fumes or fly sprays, they are absorbed through the skin because of our use of personal care products and of course we ingest them because of additives in our processed food. Most of these chemicals have been extracted from crude oil and are contributing to many of our health problems.

It’s important to realise that with a cancer diagnosis the growth itself is only a symptom and a symptom is only a sign that something is wrong with the entire body. The symptom itself is not the problem and it is pointless just removing these growths which do little towards long term healing. Patients may experience remission following the treatments in use today but if you don’t remove the reasons why it first grew then that is not a cure and the cancer will only grow again.

Cancer is caused by uncontrolled cell growths within the body because the body’s defence system didn’t control these foreign cells when they appeared. It’s because our immune system had been weakened by the factors mentioned above. To solve the problem it makes sense to strengthen the immune system with healthy living instead of weakening it with toxic treatments. The body need’s to be healed and natural living does that.

Fences That Keep Burglars Out – an effective compromise
By: George Babnick

In one of my previous articles, "Invisible Dogs that Deter Burglars" I wrote about residential burglaries and how people can use an Invisible Barking Dog alarm as part of an overall layered security "system" to deter burglars. [If you didn't read this article, see my security blog, URL in my Bio]. As good as any alarm system may work, all security measures can be defeated. If someone really wants to break into your home – they will. Your goal is to make them not want to trespass upon your property or break into your home!

Landscaping can sometimes be used effectively as an exterior perimeter barrier but for the average homeowner/resident, the first layer of perimeter security is usually a fence. Few people erect a fence strictly to prevent intrusion. In fact, most people build a fence for privacy and appearances and security is an afterthought. Usually they make the fence as sturdy as they can and as high as the local zoning permits and think to themselves that they are now safe.

Solid fences give residents a false sense of security.

Solid fences give residents a false sense of security. Instead of making their property safer solid fences actually make it more inviting to a burglar. Burglars are creepy cowards who usually target homes that look the easiest to break into. Although most residential burglaries occur during the daytime, burglars like to do their thieving out of sight. They like homes that have barriers that make it difficult for neighbors or people passing by to see them. Big bushes, tall hedges, brick walls, and solid fences give burglars concealment. It gives them as sense of "safety" and can actually entice a burglar onto your property because it looks like an easy mark.
Smarthome, Inc.

What Kind of Fencing is Best?

When I worked as a patrol officer I investigated hundreds of residential burglaries and on some occasions I chased burglars across yards, through alleys, and over and under fences. The fences that fleeing burglars had the most difficulty getting over were "flimsy" chicken-wire type fences. Burglars (and pursuing cops) could not run through these fences and if they were too high to leap over, you had to detour and run around them as there was usually nothing to grab hold of to pull yourself over.

Now that I operate an investigations and security consulting business, I would serve my clients well if I recommended they erect an 8-foot-tall chicken wire or mesh wire fence around their entire property. Problem is – who wants a cheap rickety wire fence in their front yard or all around their property? Not me.

A compromise that I often recommend to my clients who want the privacy that a solid fence offers (usually wood but sometimes vinyl or other material) and something aesthetically pleasing, is to add a not too sturdy trellis at the top of the fence.

Attaching a trellis to the top of a fence makes it harder for intruders to climb over the fence as gripping and pulling your body up and over the trellis is difficult. Doing so will likely cause the entire section of trellis to break slowing the intruder down and causing some commotion.

Give the intruder some thorns!

Additionally, I often recommend that residents plant some dense thorny intertwining bushes on the inside of the fence. That way, even if the intruder climbs over the fence, when he jumps down he will have to land in an uncomfortable thicket of thorns. Low growing thorny plants can also be planted outside the fence for additional deterrent. All of this might just cause the burglar to give up and move on to an easier target.

Here in the Pacific NW the William Penn Barberry bush (Berberis gladwynesis) with its fine texture and numerous sharp thorns, works just fine. It looks nice and can grow to 5 feet in height and can be left to grow naturally or sheared to form an impregnable hedge. In the Desert SW some thorny cactus plants will do the trick!

The next time you build a fence give some thought to security. Absent a chain linked or iron fence with barbed wire or razor ribbon on the top, the best fence is one that you can see through and one that is difficult to climb over. As a practical compromise between privacy and security, consider a solid fence topped with a trellis. As an additional "line of defense" consider planting some thorny bushes on the inside and even on the outside of the fence. And, just in case the intruder makes it over your fence as he creeps up to your home with thorns sticking in his flesh, your Invisible Barking Dog alarm (or your real dog) will likely scare him away!

The Written Word of God

Adapted from the resource Power Thoughts Devotional - by Joyce MeyerIn order to know God—what to expect from Him and what He expects from you—you must know His Word. It’s not possible for God to say one thing but do another. He cannot lie, and He’s always faithful to perform what He has promised.
I know many people who have studied God’s Word diligently and whose lives have been changed, but I also know many who, although they would like their lives to improve, won’t discipline themselves to study and learn the Word or to speak the Word.
Spending time with God by studying the Word is your choice, and only you can make it. When you make that choice to seek Him with your whole heart, it won’t take long before the desire to really know God and His Word becomes a natural response.
Prayer Starter: Lord, help me to take steps today to make Your Word a priority in my life. As I move forward, give me a true hunger and desire to know You more intimately. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

"God Cures Part 2" on Your World with Creflo [Video and more below]

Created to Praise

Psalm 150:6
We're created to praise God. Some people don't know that. When the praise service starts, they sit back and say, "I'm not comfortable with all that singing and shouting. I guess praise is just not my thing."
Yes, it is! According to the Bible, if you breathe, you were meant to praise.
And don't try to slip by with saying, "Well, I have praise in my heart." That's not enough. The Word says you need to have it in your mouth as well (Psalms 34:1)! Psalm 132:9 says, "Let thy saints shout for joy." You can't shout and be quiet at the same time.
When you first begin to truly praise, it may seem awkward to you, but if you'll keep it up, it will become a way of life. Why? Because praise causes the glory of God to manifest in your life. It causes you to walk in the light of His countenance (Psalms 89:15). It will start a revival inside of you!
"But, Gloria, if I start to praise like that, people will think I'm some kind of fanatic."
Well, good! Did you know that every revival in history has been started by people the world considered absolute fanatics? God does things differently than the world. So when you set aside your inhibitions and start letting His Spirit operate through you, you're going to look strange to those who are strangers to His ways...but you're going to look glorious to the Lord!
And, by the way, don't just think of praising Him in the congregation. Praise Him in your own private prayer time and throughout your day. Learn to maintain an attitude of praise and thanksgiving. When praise becomes natural to you in your own private life, it won't be difficult to praise Him in the midst of the congregation.
Are you longing for a revival of God's presence in your life? Are you tired of just hearing about the glorious manifestations of His power in the past? Then open your mouth and your heart and do what God has created you to do. Praise!
